Mixing cardiovascular and strength training after problems with muscle spasms.
Ok, first my primary goal is to lose weight, I know of the benefits of strength training has in this capacity. However, I keep experiencing muscle spasms in abdominal area with even light activity. I'm talking like 10-15 seconds into a plank, a muscle can totally lock up. The doctors have not found any thing wrong and just…

I know I should be eating back a majority of any calories i burn up doing excercise, however... I simply am having trouble doing so. I am currently using an elliptical trainer, and due to certain circumstances, i do have to walk everywhere. Luckily i live like less than 2 miles from my current work.... gym... etc... Im…

Is walking enough cardio---if.....
My knees are a bit dodgey, running seems to hurt, as does treadmill. Elliptical trainers seem to agree with me, so i use those at gyms when i can, but my question is, if i just do walking, at about a 4.0-4.3 mph clip for an hour, is this good enough to qualify as "good" cardio. im for sure under 15 minute miles, my last…

Help on what I think may be a dangerous mindset.
My workout routine usually falls into a pattern of an every other day thing, meaning on one day (heavy day) 1.5 hours in gym followed by a 3.5 - 4 mile walk at about a 4 mph clip at lowest (i make myself walk to gym, seems like a good warm up plus car went kaput anyway--luckily im only a mile from my workplace as well) and…

Brilliant Idea- Anybody know where i can pitch this too?
With the brilliance of Myfitnesspal, it got me to thinking. With the explosion of smartphones, and the apps, and sites like Myfitnesspal, why hasnt a gym made use of the the barcode reader function to allow you to "scan" a Code, and then use it to log your excercise and track it? By simply putting a barcode on the machine,…

ON EATING PAST YOUR "1200"
I know this is such a hot button topic, but i do just want clarification on one thing, one of the arguments i hear for eating back excercise calories is "your not getting enough nutrients...." question, im at the half way point of my day, and have only calculated lunch and breakfast and one snack (check my foord diary for…

How accurate is the gym equipment...IF....it has built in HR
It has built in heart rate monitors, asks for your current weight, and your current age. The Elliptical machine has HRM pads where you grab the rails. i do enter my weight and age, but i was wondering if anyone had any feedback on how accurate they are. I think its like a Precor machine? (That sounds right in my head…

Switching from calorie deficit for loss, to gaining muscle..
As i begin to near the goal weight i had set for myself (220 down to 166- currently 182) i am beginning to think ahead. Keeping in mind the psychological factors of seeing scale go upwards, what do you reccomend as i do wish to gain muscle, but as i hear that you must increase calorie count to do so, and expect fat to…

Starting Strength Training-QUESTION
Im noting that the 30-60 minutes of cardio im doing also has the benefit of keeping me well under my daily calorie intake.. while i usually do not go past my 1200-1300 calories a day either way, its a nice "safety net" in case I once in a while stray and go up to 1500 and 1600--- it still tells me im ok. I see green, im…
