I'm going to be on Biggest Winner
Hey crew, my area of Knoxville, TN has something called Biggest Winner based off Biggest Loser. I was selected with 9 other contestants to compete, we're going to do the Covenant Health Marathon in March. Just wanted to pass along my blog in case anyone is interested in reading, I'll be posting links to our video footage.…

All you diabetics
I was dxed with T2 at age 33 when I weighed 70lbs heavier. I've lost a lot, I have about 28lbs to the higher end of my healthy BMI. My A1C became non-diabetic a long time ago, despite having spikes. I've been more insulin-resistant than anything based on lab testing proving I make too much. My doc I feel depends too…

"passive" exercising, does it truly burn/
I started a tae kwon do class a few weeks ago. Tonight we worked on our forms. I was a sweaty mess by the end but didnt' truly feel the same sort of accomplishment I do with repetitive, focused exercising. The exercise log for tae kwon do shows 800 cal burn for a full hour. I know the calorie expenditures for exercising…

How do you create functional stress coping?
I'm an oncology nurse & work long hours, 7am-8pm. I'm about to start my 4-in-a-row. I'm realizing that my trigger time for food is near/after work. The more stressful my day, the more I tend to make negative choices with my diet. I think I don't even realize I'm feeling stress/sadness/anger at the end of a shift, I just…

fruit dessert ideas with some qualifiers
My nutritionist wants me to get 2 fruits per day. My kids are constantly getting their dad to buy them junk. (that's a whole other story) So I'm looking for good fruit dessert ideas for the kids but the qualifier is ALL NATURAL...no artificial sweeteners (Stevia in the raw is ok), no artificial colorings, etc. Ideas I have…

carbs immediately after/before workout
I've read a couple places that carbs are metabolized most efficiently within a couple hrs after a workout. I have t-2 diabetes & usually eat a carb snack just prior to workout to prevent hypoglycemia. Just curious, what is the rationale it's better after a workout than just prior? Seems to me the carbs would just be…

Diet Coke vs tea with stevia
Okay, I'm trying to stop Diet Coke. I believe it's preventing me from losing weight, as well as eroding my stomach lining. I'm drinking some tea with stevia. Any thoughts out there as to whether the same issues of stevia "faking" the body into holding onto weight like the other artificial sweeteners may be doing?

Couch to 5k in 2 months
A friend just shared this link with me. I've struggled with pushing through pain/winded feeling to be able to be a full-fledged jogger (big boobs don't help either when I have to hold "the girls.") I'm going to start this program on the treadmill with my next workout. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

12k steps a day, any thoughts on how to count?
I'm a floor nurse & wear a higher-priced pedometer each day for our wellness program. I average about 12k steps per day. Any thoughts on how to account for this movement? I've been counting 1 hr of 3.0mph walking. I know I'm stop & go a lot, with some longer stretches. I wanna be accurate but I wanna account as I need more…

1 yr plateau, any suggestions?
I've lost around 65 lbs so far, I need to lose another 40 to be at the high end of my BMI. For a good year I've plateaued within a 10lb range. Some of it is bad food choices, some of it is increased muscle as I'm working out 2-3 days/wk with weights for last yr and have increased from 20-50lb range on most things, also had…

healthy, filling low carb/high protein breakfasts
I'm a nurse who's lost 65lbs but struggling to get the last 40 off. On my shift days I leave the house by 6:20am, don't eat lunch until 1pm. I need a filling breakfast with lower carbs due to history of dawn effect diabetes. I tried 2 eggs, spinach, and some low fat cheese, but by 11am I'm starving and running my tail off,…
