running and adenomyosis
Hi MFP-er's, I've recently been diagnosed with adenomyosis (and likely endometriosis too but I haven't had the laprascopy to confirm). I'm a distance runner. The conundrum is this: the pressure of the adeno is quite uncomfortable many days, and I can't find a lick of evidence one way or another if high-impact sports help…

stress eating
I'm interested in the psychology of stress eating. What is it about the stressful situation that makes us shove food down our throats? We know it doesn't help. We know we'll feel worse after doing it, and we know we can't "out-exercise" a bad diet. So why? Why when we have a stressful conference call or a bad client…

Lifting program for a runner / Gold'sFit?
Hello All, I'm hoping to get some ideas for a lifting program. I'm struggling with finding something I'll stick to. I can write my own, but then I get bored quickly (which doesn't make sense - how am I boring myself?). I would like a program that is runner-friendly because I run 15-20 miles a week, and I'd like to lift…

Austin, Texas
Happy Thursday, y'all - I live in Austin, and though I've lived in Texas for twelve years, I just got to Austin earlier this year. Any other Austinites around? Where do you go, and what do you like to do? I'm still learning my way around and figuring the city out. So far, I know there's no outsmarting traffic during rush…

Runners: to run the half marathon Sunday or not?
Hello, All - I have run 9 half marathons. I run often. I'm not fast, but I'm consistent. About two years ago during a race (the Army Ten Miler) I stepped off a curb wrong and snapped the ligaments and tendons in one spot in my left foot. That little spot still hurts sometimes, but never badly. This week, my foot has been…

weight training plan for distance runner
Hello, all - I'm a distance runner. I've never done a full marathon, but I've done nine half marathons and a half-olympic triathlon. I don't run for weight loss, but for overall physical and emotional health. Again, I don't run for weight loss. It's really hard for me to do long-distance events and lose weight because of…

Gumbo recipe
I have friends who really, really love gumbo in an unnatural way. It's not my thing, but I love to cook for people. I know a roux base isn't particularly healthy. Would anyone like to share a healthy/light version of gumbo, not as a splurge meal, but as a meal that I can use as part of my regular meal rotation? Thanks,…

how to save up calories for a cheat meal?
I've read some here in the message boards about saving calories for a cheat meal. What does this mean, exactly? I've been on MFP for a while, but I don't really understand this concept. Thanks, Shannon

treats at work
Who else has to resist the breakroom at work? I'm disciplined at home, and usually when I go out to eat as well. But, middle of the afternoon, almost every afternoon, I find myself wandering into the breakroom at work. We have fun-sized candy bars, cookies, crackers...it's all small portions but then I find myself, 200…

How to enter calories?
So, if MFP says that biking 10-12 mph is moderate but it feels vigorous to me (and my heart rate!) then should I enter vigorous or moderate? I think vigorous, but I wondered what you guys thought. Opinions, please!
