No guys should EVER, EVER, EVER...
... EVER wear spandex! I'm sorry, but no matter what shape you're in a guy looks disgusting in spandex. I'm so sick of seeing guys running around looking like they're only wearing paint on their lower bodies. Now I'm a guy (and very hetero) and I can comfortably say that wearing something form-fitting on a well…

Gym-goers: The Resolutioner Apocalypse is Nigh Upon Us!
I'm afraid it's already begun! They've come in droves! They're occupying our machines, wandering around our free weights and making it near impossible to accomplish what we do all the rest of the year! They're brainless but do so much evil! There are SO many of them already; and I'm afraid it will only be worse in a week!…

IIFYM tracking micro-nutrients
I've been thinking about this for a while now. I think those who do IIFYM understand that the difficulty is not in keeping up with the macros, but in the 'micros' & fiber. So what micro-nutrients do you track & how? Do you actually monitor intake by grams/mcgrms? # of servings? Or do you simply make sure your carb intake…

Texas Spartan Race anyone?
Is anyone from TX doing the Spartan Race on May 19,20 just north of Austin? I'm really wanting to sign up for this. Plus I just found out they have a Jr Spartan race for kids there too; I think my 7 yr old would LOVE this! It'd be cool if other MFPers were there...

Lifters, do you lose athleticism?
Or do you care anyway? The more I've dedicated myself to compound lifting with goals of gaining strength & size, it seems the more I've lost some of what I used to aspire to the most. I completed a year of StrongLifts 5x5 about 7 months ago & have been doing Wendler 5/3/1 since (which has me dedicating one gym day to one…

CONGRATS SANDY429!!! 1000 Days & Counting
Just thought a public shout out to one of my friends was appropriate. Sandy429 has now logged 1,000 days consecutively! And she's actively helped many on her friends list along the way! :drinker: Amazing dedication Sandy! Come on Mike, she deserves something!

Bench technique
When you bench do you make sure to keep your butt on the bench or not? What's the difference? What's the point of those that keep their feet in the air (not allowing any butt raise)? To get max weight up, I haven't cared as of yet to keep it down, just wondering if I need to.

What's on your health food store must have list?
I've got a Trader Joe's & a My Fit Foods that I venture out to once in while, but it's not close so I really have to take advantage of the trip. What are your must haves that you can't find at a regular grocery store? So far I'm thinking: - better quality granola - buffalo meat (or grass fed beef) - quinoa bread (or…

Betcha didn't know
You can use negative numbers in the food diary. This has been very helpful for me when you find what you need in the database but it has some ingredient that you excluded. So in that case, you can just find the ingredient itself and input a -1 as a quantity. It then not only removes the necessary calories, but macros as…

Assistance work
So I'm starting to stall out on my loading on squats, DLs, presses, etc. (the compound lifts). And I have been incorporating some auxiliary stuff, but not quite sure how to tell I'm choosing the right ones. How do you all figure out where your weaknesses are in order to then know what assistance work to do? Currently I…

Need some inspiration?
To all those that say heavy lifting isn't for them:
-
Bloody deadlifts
So, as I understand, if you're doing em right, then as the weight gets heavy the bar will rub against your shins on the way up, otherwise you probly don't have the right angle. But I'm at the point now that the bar is not only scraping my skin on my shins but opening it wide up and blood is coming down my leg n onto the…

Popped blood vessel
I got this in my eye, after doing some deadlifts. I didn't notice til someone else pointed it out to me. Does anyone know if this is dangerous or anything? I'd never heard of popping vessels in your eye due to strain. It doesn't really hurt; I can just kinda barely feel it when I think about it.

1 Rep Max
How do y'all figure your 1 rep max's? Are you actually performing them with a spotter? If you do that, are you also taping up for em? In all my workout days I'm very hesitant to waste my time & energy on finding my true max's but I'd like to know. And I'm not gonna bother someone to follow me around & spot me on…

Guess the age of the person above you, if you dare
Wanna see what people really think your age is? I do. To rely less on the honor system, you may want to set you privacy settings (in Home->Settings) to only show your profile to Friends Only before posting, otherwise too easy to cheat. Now no getting upset or anything; we don't want this thread getting locked cuz of hurt…

MFP Webcams
Wouldn't it be cool if we had some way of, ya know, spying on each other? Actually I was thinking of this in the context of like working out together with MFPeeps or competing with each other in some way. I'm curious if anyone has done this before with any site that enables video conferencing?

What's up in Atlanta?
I'm gonna be in downtown Atlanta for the week. What suggestions do you have for my free time? Been to the underground mall- that's pretty cool.

Great tasting protein/wheat pancakes
For those of you that get the BeachBody newsletters, their "Mom's Pancakes" are great and simple. They have more protein than carbs and the carbs are wheat. Here's the link to the newsletter; the recipe is at the bottom. And it's already in the Food Database as Tony Hortons Mom's Pancakes.…

Tough Mudder, anyone?
I just got myself signed up for the Central Texas Tough Mudder (October 8th) in Paige, TX. I'm totally stoked. Anyone else here doing it? Anyone here done a tough mudder at all? I'd love to hear your experiences.

Does anyone use protein powder dry?
I'm getting a little tired of my shakes, not that they aren't good or anything. I'm just wondering if anyone has used their protein powders hidden in food, or just sprinkled? Does it work? Any issues?

SOO many acronyms on MFP
You ever notice how many abbreviations we use here on this site? For a while I'd get lost in trying to follow what some people were talking about. So see how many we can get up to here. And maybe it'll end up being helpful for those who are new anyway. I'll start: HRM - heart rate monitor

Do you have a workout that you just CRAVE?
That's the way my Saturday mornings have become. I even find myself looking forward to it a day or two in advance. And if something will interrupt my Saturday morning so that I can't do it, it just kills me. I have a trail/track that I can only go to on Saturdays & it has some little workout stations along the way - bars &…

P90X Quiz
For all that are doing or have done P90X, I know sometimes Tony's dorky sense of humor can get a little tiring after a while. So I thought maybe I'd have some fun with it. For those that have endured Tony's monologues & quips several times, you'll probably do very well on this. I've created kind of a quiz around some of…

One arm stronger than the other
Any other lifters have this issue? When I first started out I thought it'd eventually even out, but it hasn't. My right is quite a bit stronger in curls, bench, flys & overhead presses than my left. So I either have to short-change my right on intensity or my left is only at like 5 reps when my right can do like 8 at the…

Getting ripped & past your 20's
Hey, just wondering who else out there has gone through or is going through the challenge of trying to get ripped who is, shall we say, "past your prime". Isn't it much harder? Any tips? What's your story? I found it much easier to get a 6-pack when I was in my early 20's. Back then eating right was very secondary. And…

For those trying to gain
So I've been trying to keep at a 50P / 30C / 20F macro ratio for a while now (P90X fat shredder phase), and I'm finding it very challenging. I usually end up around 45 P & 25 C, so I could use more protein. Frankly though, I'm having about as much meat as I can get around to making and already doing 2 or 3 shakes & a bar a…

My high sodium & high protein intake
So being a little concerned myself, and having heard a little from some of my MFP's about my sodium intake, I had a metabolic panel done (blood test) by my doc & learned some good news. Some of my MFP friends have noted that my sodium is often double & sometimes triple the recommended 2500 mgs. One of the results of the…

??? for long time MFPers
I've been trying to gain for a little while now, maybe a few months. And of course I'm not WANTING to gain fat, but lean muscle mass. But I'm starting to think I'm going about it the wrong way. The way MFP's goal approach is set up is that when you tell it you want to lose weight at a given rate (1/2 lb or 1 lb per week,…
