Skeletal Muscle/Muscle Mass question
I'm curious about something and hope somebody might have an answer for me. I have a digital scale that gives all sorts of data. According to it, my skeletal muscle is below average yet my muscle mass is above average. How is this possible? I don't understand how this works or what I could do to .improve the skeletal muscle…

Muscle mass question
According to my scale, my skeletal muscle mass is low. However, my overall muscle mass is high. This doesn't make any sense to me. How much cardiac and smooth muscle could I possibly have to offset my low skeletal muscle mass? Thanks in advance. Now, off to go do some strength training ...

Any alpine scramblers out there?
I'm currently taking a class through The Mountaineers on alpine scrambling which is, basically, in-between hiking and mountaineering. (Planning to take mountaineering in the future, too.) Does anybody else out there do this? Any tips, cool stories to share, warnings, gear suggestions, whatever?

Extreme muscle soreness and/or DOMS
I'm hitting a bit of a wall with my exercise routines due to extreme muscle soreness which is often DOMS but not always. I started back to exercising in August 2011 and the only time I have not been sore since then is when I have taken a week off. Sometimes I just have to do that because I'm so tired of being sore that I…

Need a shoulder to cry on
OK, I've been at this since around Thanksgiving and things are not going and I am lowering my calories. Long story as short as possible. I started here at MFP last August. I was already down about45# from my heaviest weight of 237 which was lost over a couple of years by just eating a bit less and movinga bit more. When a…

Training for 200 mile/2 day event, advice needed
I'm thinking of doing the Seattle to Portland event next summer which is 200 miles over 2 days, with a planned stop half-way for the night. While I enjoy cycling, I really don't do it all that often due to time constraints and, well, now it's winter, LOL. I do bike a bit in the summer but not for long distances and rarely…

The FBB or NROW for Women?
I just ordered both the New Rules of Weightlifting for Women and The Female Body Breakthrough. Similar plans, both created by a Cosgrove. Either will be super-challenging for me at my present level of fitness. For those who have used them, is there a recommendation for which one would be the best one to start with? Also,…

My first major NSVs since joining MFP (and a scale victory,
NSV #1: OK, last week I put several pairs of jeans in the donation pile that were too big and were looking really sloppy on me. So I pulled out a pair that had been too tight to wear. Wow, the too-tights are too-big. I missed the opportunity to wear 'em but I don't give a rip. I've got a couldn't even pull on pair that I…

Having a hard time getting the protein in. Tips?
I'm not a big meat eater. I find it really hard to just eat a piece of meat without hiding it in a casserole, between bread, etc. However, I'm a Type 2 Diabetic and really have to watch my carb intake so pastas, rice, potatoes, and bread are things I try to avoid or minimize. I might have an open-face sandwich once in…

Why can't cardio build muscle? I don't get why not.
I've been reading here that cardio does not build muscle. I don't understand why it wouldn't. I get bored easily so I do a variety of exercises. I do C25k (although it will probably take me several months to get through the program as I usually only do it once or twice a week), Zumba, spinning, swimming, fitness walking…
