Starting Strength WALL
I'm two months in. Squats today were doable at 100lbs, up from 45. OHP was a non starter at 100 up from 45. I deloaded to 85 to get 5 sets. I recently started losing weight again and I didn't sleep much last night. Football season has cut into my workout time. OH.P felt so crappy or I never would have posted this Needing…

Where do you shop for gear? (Slightly OT)
Here's my list of online vendors I bounce between when shopping, some more than others. I like to support local shops but I'm not a rich person. I don't mind a 10-20% markup, but sometimes I can get stuff of half-price online. That's hard to ignore. Bikes I buy in local shops. Any consistently good deals I'm missing?…

My favorite thing about finally being fit
Not since my teens have I been this fit, and I have NEVER had endurance like I do now. After over a year of losing weight, running, riding, cross training, etc, I did a 13-mile loop on my new mountain bike and when I finished felt like I could have done it again (and would have if I didn't have places to be). With scenery…

Anyone "done" with MFP and calorie counting?
I'm two or three days away from my year mark. My weight is roughly where I want it to be though I still want to tighten the soft bits and add muscle.. I continue to exercise several times a week. I've maintained weight and exercise for several months. My triglycerides and cholesterol are normal, waaaay better than a year…

Beer belly
I'm losing weight but can't shake the gut. Having lost 50+ pounds from 232 to 176, I FIRMLY believe in calorie in, calorie out (appreciating that low carb, etc, works better/different, etc). However, I haven't seen much improvement in my gut for two months. I'm losing in my face, arms, legs, but I want that gut gone. I…

"Mountain Biking" calorie count
So Runkeeper tells me a 13.38 mile, 2 hour mountain bike ride is good for 849 calories. Myfitnesspal says 1400 for "mountain/bmx biking". MFP also has leisure cycling, under 10mph, which would give me 650 calories. This is a much bigger range than I'm used to between these sites. Running, walking, hiking, road biking, the…

Setting a goal weight
Male, 6', 34yo. My first goal weight was to lose 50 pounds, starting at 232. Now I'm getting close to that goal and feel the need to reevaluate. I still have a gut and small love handles. (Edit: I recently moved my goal to 175). I am reading a training book and read something I'd never considered before. That is,…

"A Mathematical Challenge to Obesity"
Well this is frustrating to read. I haven't been on here long, any thoughts? It almost sounds a little like the now-busted "starvation" mode. "That the conventional wisdom of 3,500 calories less is what it takes to lose a pound of weight is wrong. The body changes as you lose. Interestingly, we also found that the fatter…

New from Las Vegas
I'm starting (started) MFP at 235 lbs, though I've been into the mid 240s at times in my life. At 6' that puts me 50 pounds over a healthy weight. When I was younger I was no star athlete but could run a 7-minute mile and spent hours at a time rollerblading. College, then grad school, then kids brought on the pounds.…
