I'm starting (started) MFP at 235 lbs, though I've been into the mid 240s at times in my life. At 6' that puts me 50 pounds over a healthy weight. When I was younger I was no star athlete but could run a 7-minute mile and spent hours at a time rollerblading. College, then grad school, then kids brought on the pounds. Riding a chair 8 hours a day doesn't help much either.
I'm about 5 days into calorie tracking and I'm down several pounds already, some of which must be measurement error. I'll be more excited about it in four or five weeks. I've been eating as many calories as I'm allowed, but haven't yet replaced exercise calories (though I'm not opposed to it). My immediate goal is to diet and exercise to break the 200 lb mark, then maybe start weight training again.
I'm motivated to lose weight largely because I'm not healthy. My cholesterol is too high/low in the wrong ways. My triglycerides are too high. Wight loss might not cure all ills but it can’t hurt.
Anyway, MFP is a great tool. The community seems very sensible and friendly. So, hello!

Glad you're here! You'll love it:)
It makes calorie counting a heck of a lot more fun. You can do it!0 -
I went to high school/college in Vegas! In TX now.
Try ww.fitbolt.com. Helps counter the office chair cowboy thing. By itself, not much, but it helps keep focused on your goals. And if you can get some others in your office involved, it's kind of fun.0 -
I taught in Vegas for 6 years. In Alaska now, but I sure miss Vegas.
You can add me if you'd like0 -
good luck. i started at 275. down to 238 in 2months. I was always my fittest at around 215lbs. I work in construction/labor. So that weight was good for my strength. But the extra weight made me feel and look lousy. Add me as a friend, i look forward to seeing the progress. I'm a guy from philly. Little far from Vegas. Add me if u want.0
