What have you been eating?
I know we all should put variety into our diets, but every year it seems that I get into some favorite thing to eat to help me slim down. Last year it was quinoa salads, this year it's tofu vege stir fry. Trader Joes Extra Firm Organic Tofu, dried and cut into cubes (fry this separately in a non-stick) green onion and…

I'm back!
OK, I'm going to give this a try again. I originally joined last July, and work so hard for three months. Really, I weighed everything I ate, sloshed from all the water I drank, and exercised about 5 days a week (serious stuff like running 5k and doing the weight training). I really did keep the calories to 1200 + anything…

healthy flour
OK, all you smarties out there. What is the most healthy flour that you use? What is the healthiest flour available? Have you used it? Are there problems with it (like how it holds up, what is its texture like, if it has elasticity (which is why the bad stuff is so good)?

What are you having for dinner tonight?
I thought it would be fun to see what people are having to eat tonight. I'll start: Cajun Cod Wraps with Slaw. And since I love my food, I'll have water for drinks. This is a variation on two Cooking Light recipies (the Cajun Catfish Wrap with the Caked Cornmeal-Crusted Grouper). Ingredients: Fish: Cod, cornmeal, salt,…

Running calories are way off
So I tried my new HRM today. I did 33 minutes on the treadmill (5 minutes warmup, 28 minutes running af 5 mph, then 5.2 mph). I've been using the machine's calorie count. It had me at over 300 calories used. But my HRM said I only used up 276. That's a BIG difference!!! Have I been over estimating my calorie burn? Is this…

Using saved calories?
When I was on weight watchers, we were given saved "extra calories" to use sometime in the week. I'm wondering if that works here? For example, I'm really good the week before, and the first part of this week. But the second part, I spend with friends, and when you're not at home making and weighing your own food, there's…

HRM Advice: what do you like and why?
I think I'm going to reward myself with my first 5 lbs lost (not there yet) with a Heart Rate Monitor. I'm curious with what the community uses. What do you like and why? Here is what I tend to do: treadmill jogging (at different rates), various areobic type classes (Butts and Guts, Cardiio Kickboxing), all kinds of weight…

Thinking calories
OK, so I know that thinking doesn't really burn calories. But when I'm sitting at my computer furiously composing a lecture, and working my butt off trying to come up with the most interesting, or something that will catch my student's interest... I am exhausted afterwards. I'm told, I only burn 3 extra calories compared…

Where do you measure your waist?
I've been reading online that the waist should be measured above the side hip bone and over the belly button. I've also read that it should be measured at the smallest part of the waist (which is often above the belly button, but below the rib cage). It seems to me that both need to be measured and kept track of. I am so…
