Difficult workout followed by insatiable hunger
This doesn't happen often but has a few times. Today was one of those. I was out for what was a short run this evening just to get in some miles. The distance was only 2 miles, nothing challenging at all for me to do. I was running a very familiar path beside a river, so mostly flat. 71 degrees, 55% humidity. I typically…

Someone hit me in the head with a stick
and remind me you can't out-exercise poor nutrition. I stop tracking food and sneaky gain 10 pounds despite running 30 miles a week and lifting twice. And no, it is not new muscle. What made me step on the scale again was my jeans got tight around the waist. I am a moron. Thank you. Back on the food tracking wagon again.

NROL - why am I still skinny fat?
Bought the New Rules of Lifting book. Read it cover to cover in 3 days. Finished reading it last night. Woke up this morning - still skinny fat. Darn book doesn't work. Carry on. (Think I'll go read Daniels' Running Formula now so I can qualify for Boston). :drinker:

Do I lose my man card if I go to a Taylor Swift concert?
What about if I'm taking my 14 year old daughter, do I then get to keep it? If so, but I enjoy the concert, do I have to give it back again? With the concert this Friday, I'm really concerned I'm going to be emasculated for the weekend. And I had such big plans with the wife. Oh, the troubles of a first world middle aged…

New Rules of Lifting for Life. Familar with this one?
From the NROL people, but supposedly for "men and women who want to ace their mid-life exams". Anybody know how comparable this is to NROL? I (just) got the NROL book, but saw this existed also. As a 51 year old who is primarily a runner but has done strength training as cross training for years, I'm wondering which is…

Your preferred running surface?
..and do you get to run it most often? Is it rugged trails mutil-use unpaved trails grass fields dirt roads treadmill composite outdoor track asphalt roads/sidewalks /trails/track concrete roads/sidewalks. Other? Personally I prefer running on multi-use unpaved trails or grass. However, I don't do it often because I have…

A running ninja bites the dust...
Last night, I'm running in the evening, about 7pm. Reflective gear, headlight, flashing red LED on front and back. Running through a suburban neighborhood, so not particularly traffic heavy, but people are heading home after work so higher than normal. Roads are very narrow as it's a residential area. Two cars can barely…

5 ponuds GAINED in 2 weeks - really?
Yes, I got slack. I had been doing really well. Weight went up to 180 pounds after knee surgery last year. Dropped to about 175 and hit a plateau so I came here 3 months ago. Using the toolsI had gotten down to 166 a couple of weeks ago. I've been back to running regularly about 30 miles per week. So the past 2 weeks…

Strength strategy for middle age competitive runner?
Racing is my hobby. As such maximizing running performance is my primary goal. I am rebuilding after having surgery a while back for a non-running injury. During that time I put on weight, which I'm now working to lose. My intuition is that as I'm slowly losing the weight, I'm losing more muscle than I would like and less…

I'm such a hypocrite - LOL!
Twice today I've recommended to people getting ready to run a first race tomorrow something along the lines of "no new shoes, clothing, food, drink. Race day should be as familar as possible". I just pulled together my clothes for my 5k tomorrow. Behind on laundry, all my socks are dirty. So faced with the prospect of…

Ignorant on weight loss. Help me understand BMR
Seems I killed another thread, but I could use help - so I pulled this part out. Quick summary. - I run to race. I've done so for about 5 years, until last year when an accident tore meniscus in my knee. Stopped for 8 months, had surgery, added > 20 pounds. Started running again. - In the past I've raced up to 50 miles,…
