Tried Planks for the first time in over a year!! Held it for 40 seconds...is that good or bad?? What should be my goal starting out? Should I do reps? Any good advice from someone who does these regularly??

I am attending a baby shower today for a friend. It is being held at a Mexican Restaurant. There will be trays of food provided. Any good ideas on what I should eat? Should I eat before I attend and just have some Iced Tea? Not sure I'm that disciplined yet.
