Returning with a vengeance
I had lost about 90 pounds in 2010 with the aid of folks on this site. Subsequently I was diagnosed with a heart murmur. Over the next few years it proved to be much more than the basic murmur. My Aortic valve was falling victim to stenosis (stiffening) and had lost about 40% of its original cross-section. I began…

Official validation.
I don't post too many threads but this is one worth sharing. I received my official letter today and this is the best quote ever. It's to my Nurse Practitioner at work regarding my medical status................ "Mr.White has been seen and treated in this office for Hypertension and Type II Diabetes Mellitus. As a result…

The Mother of all NSV's at least to me.
October 31st, 2010 I had reached my peak of portliness at 5'8" and a profound 284# I was out of shape, sick and well on my way to an early grave. I started having issues with everything from cognitive reasoning to walking from my car into my work; a whopping 1600 feet or so. So, I half-heartedly started losing a little…

what did we do 20 years ago
I was following the thread about Cell Phones. There are some very valid reasons to always have the thing with you. One fellow cited a child with health issues. Another woman mentioned a hubby that drives truck. I get it, but what did we do 20 years ago. Younger folks on here may not even remember a time that technology…

So... what exactly do you do?
On another thread some one mentioned their career in the medical fields. I was just wondering what folks do for a living. I'll Start Nuclear Reactor Operator...go ahead get the Homer Simpson jokes out because I've never heard them before.

Great colors, nice design etc. So I slipped on a "Dri-Fit" jacket I liked in 2XL. it fit my fat gut but the arms…

Erie Canal Bike Ride!
My cousin Iggy (iggyscott on MFP) asked if I want to do this bike ride in July. It sounds like a riot to me. Anyone interested in getting a group together to represent MFP. Maybe T shirts and such? I would be glad to help design and produce T shirts if enough folks are interested. There is a number limit of entrants i…

victories bigger than weight loss!
Today, I checked in with the PA at my place of employment as I do every Tuesday and Thursday. My BP was 108/72. she mentioned that i might need to have my Dr. adjust my meds since this was pretty low and I had lost "so much weight". I called the Dr. and he cut my meds in half and will evaluate their need in two weeks.…

Dreaded Ground Hog's Day!
OK, for most folks GHD is just another day. For some freakishly odd folks in Puxatawney, PA it's some sort of satanic-worship-the-woodchuck thingy. BUT for me it is unbridled fear. I have had 4 car accidents on 4 different year on 2/2......and one more on 2/6. So, we have blizzard warnings on GHD and I work 53 miles away…

Small Victories
Can where my wedding ring and the ring my kids bought me when I retired from the Navy with out my fingers swelling from them being too tight. Tried on a pair of jeans that were too small, now they are too big. Bough new skivvies a size smaller. What are the little daily victories that make you smile?

Fat...for now, not forever.
Jim here. I've got a sob story about how I ended up 100 pounds overweight. It's really unimportant. This is not, yet another, New Year's Resolution. I have been given a huge wake up call at the doctor's office. and have been waiting three months just for the doctor to give me the green light to start working toward my…
