Relative noob
Hello people! I've been a member of this board for a while I think, but only just started visiting it today. Here's my story (the abbreviated version). CW: 174.2 GW: *shrugs* 145 ish? 36 years old 5' 7.5" I have 10 year old twins (soon to be 11)...lost a lot of weight when they were 2.5 years old (I guess somewhere between…

When you get there and you're happy, do you...
still have to keep changing your fitness routine up? For example - I run and I lift. When my body is where I'm happy with it (lean, defined muscle, but not looking to bulk) -- will I be able to continue with the same lifting routine and maintain the desired physique? On occasion I read things about needing to change your…

Superbowl girl commercial & my daughter
My 10 year old daughter doesn't like football so she wasn't watching the superbowl. At some point during the game, however, she had wandered into the living room and her visit was coincidental with this commerical: http://youtu.be/q3GpXgFwWmk She watched it, gave it her full attention, and then went back to doing what she…

Spironalactone - do you take it, does it work?
I've been reading about this drug and I'm curious if it's worth my time. I do have some hair loss and growth that I wish I didn't, but I really do not like the idea of taking drugs so I'm torn. Right now I only take birth control and some basic vitamins - do use women's rogaine on the top of my head (Pantene brand,…

The Phases of Food-thought
7am - coffee, now, all I want is coffee 7:10am - what am I going to take to work to eat for breakfast? 9am - I want breakfast 11am - I need to heat up my lunch (or, if I didn't bring lunch - where am I going?) 11:30am - I need food right now. 2:30pm - I'm hungry, where's my snack? 4pm - thinking about how/what to do with…

By recommendation - MFPism's
This is posted to my blog, but one of my buddies said I should put it on the forums for comedic values (since blogs go largely unread unless you're like a super-hero on MFP  ). Enjoy :drinker: That time (last week, yesterday, probably today) when... 1. Deena_Bean completed her food and exercise diary. Everyone else…

Caloric intake & PCOS
Have you found that you have more success with losing weight at a higher caloric intake or lower? When I started I was doing the 1200 calorie thing and losing and then I stopped losing, researched, believed that the 1200 was really quite low so jumped to 1600. I started losing a bit again, but it is slow. Like snail-paced…

Time of exercise directly affect the scale?
It really seems like a trend for me that if I weigh myself in the morning and I weigh 'X', workout that night (between 7-9pm), and weigh myself the following morning my weight is up (usually between 1-2 lbs). Then it goes back down the day after a non-workout. Normal?

Anyone: 1640/day : 35yr old F : 5'7.5" : 15-20lb to lose
I'm looking for a few ladies with similar goals/body types as mine to fight the rest of this fight with me. I've been stalled at the same weight for about 2 weeks now, not even a fraction of a pound variance. I recently raised my calorie intake so I'm hoping within the next week or so with some activity I'll see changes. I…

Blog feature, nice form of expression - any recommendations?
I just started a blog on this site and I'm enjoying it. It's not so much for others as it is for me. If you blog here, is your experience that most people sort of do it to keep tabs on themselves or for tracking - or is it more about your story and thoughts? I'm guessing a mix, but I haven't spent a lot of time browsing…

Advice Pls - 2255 calories/day needed
Hi - I'm writing on behalf of my boyfriend (trying to help him out in a way that's easy for him). He is a tall, thin guy - needs to build up some muscle but has a very hard time getting enough calories in. He is not a big eater a lot of the time and will be starting small (push-ups, some weight lifting, etc). Right now…

Sugary or Salty - what's your vice? What's your substitute?
I swear I could eat my "pounds lost" in chips and salsa or cheese and crackers - but throw some cookies/cakes/donuts at me and I turn up my nose. I've always been this way...preferred salty snacks to sweeter ones (although I have a mad love affair with gummy bears). What's your preference and what do you eat now to help…

If you have "bad" knees - this seems legit
http://modernhealthmonk.com/ultimate-guide-to-chronic-knee-pain-runners-knee/ I do have weak knees to which my doc advised that I never run/jog more than 3 miles (and even that is not a great idea). I liked my jogs a lot and I miss them. Then last night rolled my knee on a long walk and it's been achy since then. I'm not…

Weighing your food or not? Your take on it?
To be totally honest I have not weighed any food in quite some time. I have considered it, yes, but have not. I've lost some weight (admittedly I'm flying in a holding pattern currently), but haven't weighed food....well in years honestly. Now, let me back up and say that a little bit over a year ago I was at my "goal"…

Weekly or Daily calorie counting, what's better?
Does it make a difference if calories are counted by the week vs. day? Do you/should you roll over calories day-to-day or just let them go if you've got some left for the day?

Are protein powders a good idea?
Not sure about this, but overall I think I'm a bit low on the protein intake. I've hard about PB2 which seems like a good protein supplement. I just prefer the most natural means possible, but I'm not getting quite enough from my regular eating...even eating meats, etc.

Raised my calories last week and I'm hungrier???
Why??? I was eating 1200 and not often 'hungry' but realized it's an insufficient intake with my height/weight/goals, so I changed it to 1640. Now I get hungry more. I have the calories available to eat the food when I get hungry, but is this a good/normal thing?

Best, most reliable HRM
The HRM I have/had worked sometimes, but it never stayed consistent. It seemed like when I would run for more than 5 minutes it would just stop reading my heart rate. It was a watch with a chest strap and I changed the batteries, etc. It's just not a good one (it was not a top name brand, so I'm not shocked). What are your…

Planks are the devil.
I was previously a stronger girl, was a boot-camper (3 days a week for an hour)....now, not so much (divorce changed up my daily routine and it doesn't fit anymore with the kid shuffle). I'm not weak, but my arms are the weakest part of me. My legs can take a pounding and not skip a beat, I can walk for hours, and I was a…

Does all liquid intake count towards water intake?
For example: I have had about 48 oz. of water today..plain water from the water cooler. I've also had about 12 oz. of ice tea, 14 oz. of unsweetened vanilla almond milk & about 16 oz. of coffee. Plenty to drink, but although I've had more than 64 oz. of "liquids" - I haven't had 64 oz. of pure water. Thoughts?

Update on new calorie adjustment (1200 raised to 1640)
I told some people I'd update on how this has progressed. It's only been a few days and so far here's what I've noticed: 1. It's totally a mind game right now - it's very hard to not feel 'guilty' for eating 440 more calories a day) 2. It's also a challenge - I've found a few days by the end of the day I haven't consumed…

Is tracking every "activity" right? Beneficial or harmful?
Excuse my lack of knowledge, but really, out of complete curiosity...should you record things like grocery shopping and house cleaning in your exercise log? I have done it (the house cleaning), but I'm wondering if it's really beneficial or if it should just be considered in your lifestyle label - (sedentary/active, etc)?…

Today I increased my intake from 1200 to 1640 & I'm scared!
I've been logging for 58 days and started 58 days ago at 1200 calories. I've done some reading and I believe that my intake was too low and I started to think that while I'm losing now, I may be sabotaging my metabolism. My loss has slowed to maybe .2 or so lost per week now. This is my info in case you're wondering:…

Should I adjust my calorie intake?
I am starting to think I should lift it up some from what I'm reading....like it's too low given what I have left to lose. Here's my info: Height: 5' 7.5" Age: 35 Femaile SW: 187 CW: 172.4 Goal: 155 (ish - I'm flexible here, up to 160 is fine with me) Caloric intake: 1200/day (if I exercise I increase that to close to the…

Stupid, stubborn fat - get off me already!
Hello! I'm not really new to MFP, but I have never once posted and I have maybe 3 or 5 "friends" most of whom are not around these days (for whatever reason, I don't judge). Just wanted to jump in the pool with everyone, I guess. I'm 35 and I have almost 10-year old twins. I've had a very long weight loss journey that…
