Is running/jumping on balls of feet okay?
Hi, I'm a total newbie to exercise as a whole (though I live in NYC so I do a lot of walking) and I decided to start with Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred... so far it's great, but I noticed that whenever there are jumping jacks, jogging, or jumpropes she does them with her feet landing flat on the ground, but when I do it my…

Losing that tummy pudge...
Hello everyone! My weight loss regimen tends to be more about the diet and less about the exercise, but diet alone isn't helping me get rid of that annoying tummy pudge right under my belly button. I know you can't choose specific spots to lose weight in, but will crunches and sit-ups at least help?

How long does it take to enter starvation mode?
How many days must one undereat in order to enter starvation mode? Would going under 1200 calories for just one day send the body into starvation mode? (Not that I have any trouble eating, haha, I'm just curious!)

Fast Food options for diets?
I know that fast food is never the ideal option for someone trying to eat healthier, much less someone trying to lose weight - but I'm trapped in the suburbs for a while, and sometimes that's the only option I have! What are some of the lesser evils out there? I've heard people mention Subway having some decent options,…

How could I possibly be gaining?
I hit 133 a couple of weeks ago and since then have plateaued and gained 2 pounds. I have been keeping to my diet pretty well (1300 calories) and if I have gone over, it's been by less than 100 calories. So how on earth am I gaining if I am DEFINITELY eating under 1500 calories a day? Part of me sees all those threads on…

5 diet/healthy foods you can't live without?
I've seen threads like this in the past, and I'd like another one! What are 5 (or more if you have more!) foods that you absolutely must have, or that are always in your kitchen? Here's mine: 1. Chocolate vitatops 2. Skinnytaste.com bolognese sauce 3. Laughing Cow cheese 4. 70-calorie instant hot chocolate 5. Hebrew…

Share your favorite recipes!
What are your favorite (healthy) recipes? Post them here and share! I just made a full batch of this last night, heated some up tonight for dinner: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/12/pasta-with-bolognese-sauce.html Pasta with bolognese sauce is my absolute favorite meal of all time, so I was so happy to find a healthier…

It's not hard anymore!
I realized a few days ago, after about a month of dieting, that eating only 1300-1350 calories isn't hard anymore! I remember spending the first few weeks just staring at the kitchen, having to fight to keep myself out and within my goal. But recently, the only thing that's still giving me trouble has been my bad penchant…

Better to eat late or not enough?
I'm VERY busy with school throughout the week, and a lot of my classes don't allow food, so in the evenings after I've had dinner I tend to still have a few hundred calories left. Not eating them would put me under 1200, but when I eat them all before bed I tend to not lose weight (or even gain a bit). I'm worried that…

Food to take on a trip?
I'll be leaving soon to spend a weekend at a hotel with some friends, and I want to bring most of the food I'll be eating (the hotel is in a resort town where all the restaurants are far out of my price range). According to the hotel website, our room will have a coffee maker and a fridge, but nothing else. Anything I pack…

"Healthier" sodas?
I see in the other thread about diet soda a lot of people saying all soda is unhealthy. Is this still true of the natural sodas one can buy at places like Whole Foods? I grew up on Juice Squeeze and absolutely love it, and their website says it "contains no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, preservatives or…

The boulder has budged!
I've been maintaining the weight of 145 for about 2 years now, and wasn't doing anything about it because it wasn't really overweight (though it is ALL fat) and because it wasn't going any higher. Finally over the holidays I gained some weight and realized I had to take action before my complacency led to a serious weight…

(Not so) Healthy Pasta??
I was comparing two boxes of pasta today and was pretty surprised by what I found! My supposed "healthy" pasta option, Pasta Joy, had the same amount of calories in a serving (same size serving) as the Barilla, which I would have assumed was less healthy. Not only that, but the organic, whole-grain Pasta Joy had more…

What did you have for dinner last night?
