What is your activity level?
Are you sedentary or more active? Do you take the stairs instead of the elevator? Park in a spot further away from the door? Walk "briskly" through the mall? What do you do to keep active and the calories burning even when you're not "working out"? I must confess that I am tempted to think that I don't need to be as active…

Menopause and low blood sugar?
Hello Ladies, I'm hoping to appeal to a more specific audience with this question. I know I recently posted a topic about perimenopause but I have another one. Forrest Gump Love all the songs from the '60s & 70's The first time I watched the movie with my hubby, he was pleasantly surprised that I could name the group for every single song in the movie. He has most of the lines memorized and does a pretty durn good Forrest Gump imitation "From that day on, if I was going…

Peri-menopause and belly fat
Hello ladies, For those of you going thru peri or full menopause, have you noticed a change in your body shape particularly an increase of belly fat? I am at a weight that would have had me looking slim and trim in my 20's, 30's and even early 40's. But now I have that little extra stubborn "flab" around my belly. It…

I lose more weight when I don't work out
I find that I lose more weight by cutting calories than by working out:huh: I don't know if it's because I'm hungrier after I work out and I "eat back" my calories or I'm building muscle mass or Is it just from being better hydrated from drinking more water But the weight always comes off better with decreased calorie…

Working out vs. injury
I'm an RN who has worked in long term care for over 20 years. I see what a life of poor choices can lead to: diabetes, hypertension and bone fractures to name but a few. I am a firm believer in staying active, fit and healthy for as long as I am able. I enjoy my cardio and strength classes at the gym. However, as I get…

Help! The numbers don't add up-I'm gaining weight!!
Okay, according to mfp, I burn about 1700 calories a day. To lose a pound a week I need to eat about 1200 calories a day. I work out on Monday-Wednesday-Friday and on those days I can have as many as 1800 calories. So here are the calories I consumed for the week (and yes, I did work out M-W-F): Monday: 1000 calories…

Age old debate: cardio vs. weights
I've heard its 40% cardio and 60% weights, or maybe it's vice versa, to see good results. I think you need both. Not just for weight loss and fitness in the here and now but (I'm speaking as a geriatric nurse here) to retain and maintain as much strength, flexibility and general health as you get older too. Cardio,…

How do you reward yourself?

Weight lifting success
Okay, I don't have any pics or enormous weight loss numbers to post. However, I am beginning to increase the amount of weights I am lifting and it feels so good! (Les Mills BodyPump) I was always kind of afraid to do it because (a) I didn't think I could do it and (b) I didn't want to make a fool of myself in front of the…

BMI?
I am 5'8'' and currently 123#. The BMI calculator on mfp states that my BMI is 18.7 and that if I lose another pound or two that I will be under my ideal BMI. However, I am small-boned and not comfortable in my clothes until I am around 120# or less. And I know that I would feel miserable (fat!) at the top end of my BMI…

Averaging your results?
Some days I go over my goal for calories and other days I go under. Do you think it works to average out your calories over a period of say, a week? Or do you need to stay under you calorie goal every day to reach your goal weight?
