Wist HRMs - Basis or Mio Alpha?
I'm researching wrist (*non-chest strap*) HRMs and have narrowed it down the the Mio Alpha and the Basis, leaning toward the Mio because it seems to be more exercise oriented than the Basis, which appears to be more oriented toward resting heart rate activity. Both are about $200. Any advice?? Is there another one out…

What do you want to say to certain people at the gym?
On almost a daily basis, I see things in the gym that I wish I could change. Admittedly , I’m reasonably certain that others have looked at what I’m doing in the gym over the years and have had critical thoughts about it. So in that spirit, and in the spirit of passive-aggressiveness, I’d like to help some of my fellow…

DigiFit synching inaccurate exercise descriptions with MFP
I recently bought a Mio Alpha heart rate monitor, and it interfaces well with Digifit (Mio doesn’t have its own app). However, the exercise descriptions are either totally generic / and or flat out wrong when they synch with MFP. For example, exercises like elliptical, weight training, snow plowing, ice skating, roller…

Surrounded by people with unfortunate hygiene issues...
I am fortunate that I have a job that allows me to work from home a few days a week. However, this has made the days in the office more painful because I am much more aware of how I am exposed to other human beings and their unfortunate hygiene issues. This week alone I have witnessed: -Numerous people coughing into their…

Before / After Pic Shenanigans
Like most gyms, the gym I go to has a bank of TVs in front of the treadmill / elliptical / spinning machines. A few of these are dedicated solely to promoting the gym, with motivational sayings, promotions, staff profiles, and before/after photos. Every time a before/after display came up I noticed the following: 1) The…

Your dog
Another run, another stupid f*cking owner letting his wild-*kitten* dog run up to me like he was going to attack me. If your dog tends to run out of the yard and chase people, here's an idea - keep it on a f*cking leash or chain, or in a fenced in yard.

Crossfit - what kind of shoes?
I just impulsively signed up for 15 crossfit sessions to try something different. I have been reading about it and haven't found a decent article about what shoes people wear. I see a lot of ads for "crossfit shoes", but am not sure if it is necessary to buy them (plus I recently dropped some $$ on running shoes). Any…

MFP Term of the Week - "confirmation bias"
If you want to score points, use "confirmation bias" in every thread whenever possible. Mention "science" for bonus points. Combined, you will surely convert everyone to your way of thinking!

Looking for new friends, especially...
those that are not necessarily looking to lose a bunch of weight, but rather are trying to maintain and improve their current level of good fitness. I want to keep improving, continuing to learn better eating and exercise habits, and need like-minded friends to trade ideas with!

Looking for new friends, especially...
those that are not necessarily looking to lose a bunch of weight, but rather are trying to maintain and improve their current level of good fitness. I came here intending to only "break even", but after logging my diet for a few weeks and reducing my sugar intake, I ended up losing 5-6 lbs! I want to keep improving,…

Race Etiquette
I find most runners to be very polite and considerate of each other. However, one etiquette breach continues to annoy. At the start of the race, everyone gathers at the start line. Logically, the fast runners should gather at the front, the slow runners and walkers at the back, right? So it never fails that the first 5…

Proof of Fitness Improvement!
To maintain free rec center benefits through my health insurance, I have to periodically get measured to demonstrate progress. I started using MFP in May, methodically documenting my diet every day. I cut out a lot of the unrefined sugar, sodium, shuffled my carb / fab / protein ratios, and monitored my overall caloric…
