How many calories are you suppose to net a day?

How do you know how sugar should be alotted for daily consumption? MFP gives me 24 and I drink 1 cup of Chocolate Almond in the morning with breakfast and after my morning milk I have 2 left for the day. Is 24 a realistic daily amount or is that too low?
