Cheryl, I missed the 9 health fair (usually do it) and there is also Life Screen for seniors that also comes through once a year, but the timing was not right on either. So kind of blew it.0

Yep, the money thing had to do with the timing thing.0

Cheryl, I'm sure your dogs appreciate the walks! It's good for them too.
People aren't the only ones with weight issues. A few years back my female golden suddenly put on a few too many pounds and the vet said cut her food back 10%. Worked like a charm and she was back to normal in 6 months. Duh!! Why didn't I join her then??0 -
Yeah Pam they love the walks, but I have a sick one at the moment and she is turning up her nose at food so may leave her at home and take the other two. One of them definitely needs to walk as he just stole the sick ones food behind my back. Little *kitten*!0

Ran across a person with good advice about maintenance on the gratitude thread. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/themedalist/view/what-s-your-maintenance-plan-6246760

Thanks for this link Gayle. I was interested in the Maintenance Ticker but can't seem to find it anywhere among the various tabs and forum questions. Anyone else see it?0 -
Hi Pam, I see that they have said that they emailed you about this topic. Looks like people have been asking for a maintenance ticker since 2011. Hopefully your public question will be the one that makes them put this item on their to-do list. One thing I did kind is a research group who is tracking dieters in the maintenance phase. There is a button that says "join the study". Might have tools for tracking. http://www.nwcr.ws/0

You know, I looked again and think you have to have maintained your weight lost for a year first, sorry. Well, sparkpeople help you track your maintenance, although it is not a ticker. Don't want to lose you here but check them out. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellness_articles.asp?id=10650

Take a look at this MFP Blog. It talks about what I have always thought, weight issues can be as much a symptom, not necessarily the cause, of health problems. I get tired of people always thinking we are sick because we are overweight. I have always thought that many of us are overweight BECAUSE we are sick. I never was overweight until I developed heart and RA issues. I gained 100 pounds in 8 months. This was before any diagnosis. I kept telling the doctors that something else was wrong. I didn't just suddenly gain weight after 50 years of being thin! This tells why: https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/the-weight-gain-inflammation-connection/0

I think you are right Charlie, although obesity can be strongly correlated to diabetes and high blood pressure, but both are also found in people who are not overweight. You need to include emotional health issues as well. Overweight (and underweight) can be a symptom of eating disorders brought on by emotional issues. I suspect that my plateauing has to do with underlying health issues except the clear excesses in my eating that have been occurring this month. Of course I think that can be attributed to my energy levels steadily declining in the last 6 months.0

I also found the National Weight Control Registry. To join you need to lose 30 lbs and keep it off for a year. As of Sept 2014 I had lost 30 lbs. so this Sept 2015 I can register. This continues a family tradition - my male golden is in the Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study and my female golden is in a Senior Study.0

Weight gain doesn't always come from eating and illness. For me, when my heart was functioning at less than 30% of normal (EF of 17%), my body slowed my metabolism way down in order to make sure that my liver, kidneys, etc. were getting what they needed to survive. Didn't eat more, just could lose, even at 1200 and what little activity I could do. Also, as the article states, your immune system, especially a strong one, can hurt. I have a very strong immune system that I try to suppress because of the RA and sjogrehns.0

@MapDancer By mid-July last year I had lost 57. I'm 30 something below that now, so can I join or do you need to be at your goal?0

This is great Charlie. It worked out that if I can eat 1400 calories a day and be more consistent with a fairly mild exercise program, I could reach my goal by the end of the year! Hope! I can do that.
But yes, the last 10 is always the toughest. Maintenance was difficult too because it was such a narrow margin. We knew that. Glad a math guy proved what we know.0 -
This is terrific Charlie, I signed up for that program to work along with mfp.0

You all were more optimistic about this than I. 13 pounds now well into my second year will take forever!0
