There is a 600-lb life forum and they talk about some of the episodes and Dr. Now, etc. http://forums.previously.tv/forum/1358-my-600-lb-life/

Be forewarned, some folks get pretty judgy (sp?)

This is a good link which explains BMR and how to calculate it if you don't use an online calculator. Obviously, to lose weight, you have to consume less calories than the BMR. Since mine is around 1350, I don't have much wiggle room. Now, you know why I am a slow loser after I dump the retained water. Exercise!

I saw an episode of 600-lb. Life today in which a nutritionist was explaining to the potential surgery candidate what foods could be eaten and how to prepare them, etc.

Watching 600-lb.Life. That always seems to be on either TLC or another channel.

    Doctor: "Do you exercise?"

Me: "I'm a runner. I run from my problems and I run my mouth."

I am trying Meal Enders out.

Off to work. Breakfast was Quaker Weight Control oatmeal.

    Today, the scales liked me.

Dr. Now is certainly a character. I hope I'm still able to do my job as well as he does his when I'm his age. Occasionally they show him sending someone to a therapist or nutritionist. It has to be much more common than they show (you'd hope). What they show of the nutritionists leaves something to be desired IMHO but we only see what they show us. Maybe there is really detailed advice being dispensed off camera. The very first person whose story they told went on to lead support group meetings for pre gastric bypass patients so we know there are support groups before surgery that we aren't usually shown. I guess they show what they think makes good television.

I've decided to bite the bullet and get my lab work done this morning. So no breakfast. I have promised myself an egg white mcmuffin on the way home. YEAH for all day breakfast at McDonald's!

I talked to my sister on her birthday. We are brainstorming ways to approach our dad. He's freaking out over moving home. Seems to be all tied up in change of address. Me, being Ms. Empathy here (not), told him to move and then we'd help him with the change of address. It's not crucial. His pension and social security checks are already direct deposited into our hometown bank. What else is crucial? Nothing! The step mother allowed him to bring almost no furniture so moving is one of my brothers going over with their SUV and loading up his few possessions. Most of his possessions are still in the family home (I know, strange). I've always thought he and I were a lot alike with a super practical approach to life so I've been taken aback about how he's approaching this (or not as the case may be). My sister is going to take another run at him.

I change addresses twice a year. Mine is temporary but you dad's will be permanent. They'll forward any mail he gets for 1 year. He'll get a envelope from the PO telling him the change has been made. They don't forward junk mail so he won't get much forwarded but the notice from the PO might be enough to ease his mind that he's not missing any important mail. I'm just starting to get back on track. I'm weighing daily and making healthier choices. I see the doctor next month and I'd like to be a little lighter than I was when I saw him 6 months ago.

Helene--There is nothing like a doctor's appointment to reinforce the motivation to lose some weight. I have the same goal for September when I see the cardiologist and urologist.

Maryanne--I am sure that things will work out well for you father's move. Change of address usually works smoothly.

I worked today and it was a challenging day as it was in an alternative classroom. I am having a Lean Cuisine pizza for dinner. I am also reading the updated South Beach Diet book. My former primary care physician was a great believer in South Beach.

Jean, you might also want to look at the updated 17 Day Diet plan. It's very similar to South Beach, but I thought it offered greater variety. My sister has had success with it, when she really focuses. She tends to be very gung ho for a week or two but loses interest after awhile and reverts to bad habits. She was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic, so she is trying harder. I'd estimate that she needs to lose around 40 pounds to get back to a healthy weight. She is 5'2" like me, so extra weight really shows on us.

I went out to run some errands that I badly needed to take care of today and really overdid the walking. My left foot is really hurting tonight. I had been thinking about returning to my volunteer duties at the library next week, but now I'm not so sure I'm ready.

We should have a brief break tomorrow in our string of rainy weather, which will be nice. It's been unusually cool for the past two days, but today the temps started to edge upward again. I think the rain is supposed to return Sunday, so I'll try to enjoy the sunshine while I can.

Pam--Thanks for the info on the 17 Day Diet. I checked it out on WebMD:
    http://www.webmd.com/diet/a-z/17-day-diet

I am sorry that you foot is hurting from overdoing the walking. It might be a good idea to re-think returning to your volunteer activities.

We had sunshine today but rain is moving in again tonight. My legs are feeling it.

Helene - good job on getting back on track!

Pam - I'm sorry your foot is hurting. I guess it's reminding you to give it time!

Jean - we're getting rain today too. Yuk! I wonder if we'll have any fresh produce from the eastern shore this year. Our garden is a disaster.

Turns out a sunny Friday morning is a great day to go to Hopkins (a branch not downtown) to get your blood drawn. There were only a couple people there. BUT I had to wait because another "fainter" was already in their one chair that permits lying down. If I tell enough wise cracks I don't usually actually faint but I make them lay me down so the chances of me falling down are zero. Last thing I want to do is injure myself at a routine blood draw (I tell them I don't want them to have to pick me up but really it's more about me LOL!). Usually they grumble about doing it but this guy didn't. Unfortunately he was also a lousy phlebotomist (sp?) and my arm shows it. My results should be as good as they can get - I'm down almost 30 pounds, been taking my cholesterol meds faithfully and was completely honest with the fast this year. So should see the truth when I get the results.

I just realized this morning I didn't hear from the endocrinologist about my thyroid biopsy. She thought she'd be back to me by Friday.

I need to fill out my spreadsheet for today before I get up from this computer. Our meals are "off" because DH went fishing and had fish for dinner the last two evenings.

Maryanne--With all the rain, anything planted is likely to develop root rot so the plants won't develop right. Congrats on being down the 30 pounds and doing well with the diet and meds; the results should show great improvement.

I will be having blood tests done about mid-July, so hopefully I will have decent results. This morning, I had the Kellogg's Special K breakfast sandwich for 200 calories.

For some reason my endocrinologist's doctor group has their own "portal" rather than using the hospital's so I have no real hope of finding the thyroid biopsy results online. I should be able to find the labwork next week, though. One reason I go to Hopkins for that is because their portal is so great and I can see my own results without spending literally months beginning the internist's office to fax them.

Maryanne--I love those fitness portals. Fortunately, all my specialists use the same one. The local medical place where I have my lab work done and where my primary care person is located has its own.

I got a new GPS and have spent time fine-tuning it the way I like.

Everyone here has their own portal. Some of them work well; some not so well; and overall it's just too many sign-ins and passwords!

I had eggs for breakfast today and a big salad for lunch. Dinner will be a NS entree with snacks for later!

Dinner will be the NS Lasagna with steamed veggies. A late evening snack will likely be the WonderSlim shake/pudding made as pudding.

Maryanne--Great story! I shared it on Facebook. Can you imagine what that cat went through on all those flights?

I just put my supplements in the food log on MFP. They total 55 calories.

I looked out this morning and wondered "What is that strange look?" It was sunshine!! Thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon.

I had the Special K breakfast sandwich for breakfast.

Hopefully the south beach snack bars won't disappear but who knows?

We had chicken for dinner with small sweet potatoes. Sammy was right there at my feet, waiting for his share of the chicken! This boy loves chicken!

I got a fair amount of work done today. A very grey rainy day once again. Supposed to be like that for several more days (so what else is new).

Maryanne--It will be interesting to see what the new food line will be like. Yes, it was one of those dreary days. We had a severe storm with large hail.

I had a can of tuna for lunch along with slaw with red wine vinegar for "dressing." Midnight got so excited when I opened the can of tuna, so he had a little bit of it. For dinner, I'm having tilapia with steamed broccoli. I guess this is Omega 3 day or fish day.

I also had my omega 3 fish today, lol. DH came home from church with a salmon filet for which I made a marinade and then we grilled it. We had spinach salad and fresh corn on the cob to go with it, so a very nice and reasonably healthy meal.

I'm still having foot pain, but it is different today from what I've had before. Not sure what is going on with it now, but I'll monitor it for a day or two and decide whether I need to call my doctor about it.

It will be interesting to see how NS blends the South Beach program with their existing food. The two don't seem that similar to me, but I've been away from it for awhile so maybe I'm just out of touch.

Pam - I hope your foot pain doesn't turn into anything!

I'm off to the vet this morning with Jessicat. The last time I went on Monday morning I was almost late so I'm going to leave earlier today. I have to be home for a 1:30 conference call.

I'm going to have multi grain cheerios and 1/2 a banana for breakfast. Because there are two bananas in the kitchen that need to be eaten!

Maryanne--I love the video. It is so cute, and I am also a Blake Shelton fan. The breakfast sounds good.

Pam--I do hope the foot pain is just a passing thing and not something else to create more worries.

Right now, I am debating what to have for breakfast.

I've been MIA because my home computer is rejecting My Fitness Pal site again. It cleared up for a while but now I keep getting ads and the spinning circle when I try to come to this page. I'm at the library logging in today. The one advantageous was I could request the book mentioned (17 day diet).
Jean..That was an interesting story about the vet and the cat.
Pam..I hope the foot pain eases. Is it actually the foot or your ankle that hurts? Try icing and some ibuprofen. Maybe you just over did it.
Maryanne..You should have great numbers after a 30 pound weight loss. I too had fish yesterday. it was the fried variety but I only ate half. I bought fish at Trader Joes Thursday but it's frozen solid right now.
We did well at the cardiologist appointment Thursday. DH has a young, female doctor and I liked her immediately. She has a nice way with people. he'll go back in a month and she'll have him repeat the echo cardiogram to compare with 6 months ago. He feels and looks great.
I'll probably pop into the library a couple times a week to check in. Don't worry if I'm not posting. it's the darn computer glitch.

Helene - that's great news about your DH! But not about your computer. When they work they're great. When they don't.... My newest home computer decided to download windows 10. Luckily the CROM data base works. That was my big fear when I saw the computer d/l away. DH of course believes I triggered it. I actually think maybe Tuffy rolled over on something. He's been so clingy lately and trying to lie between the keyboard and the monitor. And he SO doesn't fit.

Jessicat went to the vet this morning. She lost TWO pounds since November. That's not good. So I'm trying to not be a basket case right now - waiting for my thyroid biopsy (not on the portal), my lab work (not on the portal) and Jessie's lab work which should be back tomorrow. I need to settle down and work this afternoon but I feel anything but settled!

Well, the endocrinologist called. The pathologist said the sample wasn't sufficient. So we wait a couple weeks and do it again. Drat!

Maryanne--So sorry. The waiting has to be so difficult especially after waiting for the results of the prior procedure.

I made a run to the city for a chiropractor appointment as I finally decided I had to do something about the pain running down the legs. As expected, I will be going back on Wednesday for an early morning appointment as I work in the afternoon.

For dinner, I had an Atkins pasta bake thing which is very good. I added a bunch of cut up mushrooms to it. Lunch was a small can of chicken breast.

Oh, what a beautiful sunny day!!! You have been missed! Let's have you visit more often!!

I started the day with two eggs scrambled and fried in skillet sprayed with coconut oil. I added some peppers cut up and some salsa. I am very, very full.

I'll be doing things around the house today and then calling Branson to make some last minute arrangements. Tomorrow, I will be getting up early so I can make a 9am appointment in the city and then be able to return in time to work at Noon.
