My goals are to lose 15 pounds by June 30. That is slightly more than a pound a week. It is an ambitious goal for me as I am one of those that stalls. In addition, I will be doing some type of exercise each day building up to a minimum of 30 minutes with one free day for muscle rest.

I actually started the new routine yesterday by faithfully entering my food intake into MFP. My elliptical is supposed to arrive Tuesday. It is one of the mini versions but it is exercise. I also have a walking video that I plan to pull out today.

Maryanne stated on the other thread the following:

It was pouring rain yesterday morning and the parking lot at the flea market was a sea of mud (when i got inside I went into the bathroom and washed my shoes). I thought the crowd would be light but no, it was maybe bigger than usual. We sold close to $1,000 (and our stuff is priced cheap). I could never do retail. I get so very grumpy by the time the morning is over. Between idiots, rude people and thoughtless vendors it can be trying. Everyone is SO self absorbed and there is such a monumental lack of common sense and common civility. I actually had one guy come up and announce what he was going to pay for certain items. Did he figure I'd just be cowed? Obviously he doesn't know me. Hee hee....

I need to catch up on a ton of chores today
    .

Maryanne--Congrats upon the $1000 sold at the flea market. Yes, people can be obnoxious and self centered and try to get things for nothing.

My goals for this quarter are to get back on my feet -- literally -- and to maintain the seven pounds I've lost since Christmas. I strapped on my boot this morning and took the walker for a spin around the house for a few minutes. I plan to do that several times a day, working up to spending more time using the walker and less time using my knee scooter. I go back to the doctor on Thursday, and I hope to be able to do it with the walker instead of the wheelchair.

Great work at the flea market, Maryanne! I would have enjoyed being a fly on the wall when the man came up to you and tried to tell you how much he was willing to pay for his items. I'm sure you set him straight.

Jean, good luck with your exercise plan. What you are planning sounds very reasonable and doable. Although I don't especially enjoy exercise, I look forward to being able to get back into some sort of a routine that incorporates some exercise.

Happy Hour was fun on Friday. It was a smaller group than we usually have because several people were out of town, but that made it easier to chat with those who were there.

I've been teaching DH how to make a couple of things for pot lucks he attends through his church. He's so proud of himself when he finishes. They have been pretty simple dishes, but they are really good and people usually enjoy them. I hope when I'm back on my feet he will continue to prepare dishes for his pot lucks! Normally I don't mind doing it, but I think it's good to add to his repertoire.

Pam--No one wants to lose weight the way you did but it is the positive thing to come out of the stressor. Maintaining that loss is a great gal as well as regaining total mobility. I'm glad that Happy Hour was a great time and outing for you. Good luck with DH's continuing with the prep of pot luck dishes.

My goals for this quarter are to (1) lose 15 pounds and (2) do 150 minutes a week on the treadmill.

Because we're a charity most people don't even ask for a discount. Most people realize we are selling donated treasures at rock bottom prices. Occasionally someone will ask "will you take $x" and we usually either say "no, sorry, we're a charity" or "come back at noon and we'll talk". But this guy's brazenness was a first. I barely resisted switching from cat lady to attorney. LOL!

I'm been racing around today doing chores. And more chores. I just don't seem to get ahead! I'd love to sit down and read but no go today.

Maryanne--Great goals and achievable for you. People have a tendency in my area to be more reasonable when it comes to a charity. Hopefully that individual will learn from that experience and your assertiveness.

I have a big black cat wanting on my lap which he won't do while the laptop is there.

We had very sad news today. Our cat Cheyenne died in her sleep last night at the age of 18. It's just about a year since we lost our other cat but the circumstances were so different. Cagney had been suffering with kidney problems for the last year before the vet had to put her to sleep last April. She wasn't in pain but we really had to work at getting her to eat that last year. With a lot of care, she rebounded and really just declined her last few weeks.

Cheyenne was in good shape and a happy cat for her whole life. She and Cagney didn't get along so she was extra happy when she became a solo cat. DH and I are saddened by her loss but grateful in the way she went. She went to sleep last night and didn't wake up in the morning. She was with our cat sitter while we were away. Debbie said she was in good spirits and would meet her on the stairs when she heard Debbie arrive. We were lucky to have her for so many years and she loved being one of our girls.

Helene--I am so sorry that you lost your beloved Cheyenne. She was lucky to have you and you her during these years. It is a painful time but you are blesses in a sense by the reality that apparently she did not have to suffer.

DH and I were talking once the news had sunk in and that's exactly the conclusion we came to.
We were more broken up when Cagney died because we had nursed her through illness her final year and she rebounded for a while. When she declined, it was quick and the vet said she would suffer if we didn't have him put her to sleep. We knew it was the right thing to do for her but it was hard. Cheyenne was happy to the end and just went to sleep. That's just the way most of us would chose to go ourselves. Dh had wanted to bring her to FL but I don't think she would have survived the trip. She was never a good trqqaveler and at 18, I think it would have been too much for her. She got to stay in her home with someone she loved (Debbie). So you are right when you say we were blessed.

Helene--As I look at my beautiful black cat, I know that he is a senior citizen and is apparently very healthy. I also would prefer that when he dies that he does so in his sleep without any pain, etc. involved. Like you, with my other cat, I went through his decline with kidney disease, etc. I really don't want to do that again but will if necessary as he is a family member.

This makes the second day of entering food on MFP. I'm trying to keep a record here also as it has not always been accurate on MFP. I was under 1000 calories for both days as I wanted to "jump start" the process. I will increase the amount tomorrow. I also have to take into account that the supplements I take add up to about 100 calories. I also started some upper body exercises today.

Good morning, all! I'll be off to work soon.

I am having the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal for breakfast. Before going to work, I'll have the Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt. Lunch will be a Pure Protein bar. Dinner will be an NA entrée and some steamed veggies. Dessert will be a WonderSlim protein shake.

My goal for last quarter was 15 pounds and I did 14.5. Not bad I guess!

I'm going to have eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch, NS chicken and dumplins for dinner (imagine how old that is!), and 2 snacks in the evening!

Pam - good for your hubby on learning some dishes! When I'm not going to be home for supper I put together a plate DH can just microwave. If he has to do more than that he won't. Which is funny since for the first 37 years of our marriage we only ate dinner together on weekends. He ate at the hospital. Then when he lost that job he fended for himself because he ate long before I got home from work. He's gotten spoiled with me working at home.

Jean - good job logging in to MFP!

Helene - I'm so very very sorry about Cheyenne! You are right that's how we'd all like to go.

I need to get my act in gear and get some medical appointments made - me AND the cats!

Thanks for the kind wirds of sympathy. We're doing better than when we lost Cagney. I mentioned to DH that it helped that she just went to sleep. There was no decision on our part to decide if the vet would have to end her suffering and life. Both of our other cats were sick at the end and we had to decide to end their suffering. Like jean said, we would do anything to keep them with us as long a possible with medical treatment until the vet said it was time to stop. having that decision made by nature was a lot easier for us and easier to accept.

We're heading out this morning to visit my sister for a few days. I may or may not have access at her house. If not, I'll check in when we get back,

Maryanne...half a pound short of goal is tremendous when you consider the holiday celebrations that fell during that time.I'll decide on a goal when I get back.

We only ever had one cat die in his sleep, our Chiclet. That was December 2000. He and I were scheduled to go to Cornell about a month later to take part in a feline epogen trial. It turns out we couldn't have gone anyway because in January 2001 I broke my heel (on my driving foot). Some years later I learned that the trials had not been a success so I guess we didn't miss anything.

Chiclet was an elderly pet quality Persian that one of our volunteers took to the vet after he showed up on someone's porch. When we found out how old he was I took him home. He was a sweetie and it was so cool to watch him learn how to play. Unfortunately we only had him two years before his kidneys gave out. Because of his age I never seriously considered a transplant.

Our Mehdi died at home but it was obvious when we found him that he hadn't died in his sleep. But at least there was no decision making.

They are our babies and we treat them that way.

Helene, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know you gave Cheyenne a very good life and much love. Although you will miss her, it helps some to know that she had a peaceful end to her life. Enjoy your visit with your sister.

Maryanne, I think you did great on meeting your goal for last quarter. If you round up, you did it! Like Helene said, considering the holidays and your birthday fell during this period, you did an amazing job!

Jean, good luck with your new exercise and diet plan. You are very determined, and I expect that you will do well.

Having a fairly quiet, boring day here so far. I need to get my boot on and take the walker out for some exercise, so I guess I will do that now.

I worked today but it was an easy day. For some reason, I get the munchies more at work. I just logged my food and am doing fine for the day. I just had my NS entrée and steamed veggies but don't feel overly satisfied this evening. I will endure it, however.

Maryanne--Why don't you just accept the reality that you met your goal. We all know scale readings can fluctuate so the half pound should not keep you from celebrating your great achievement.

Pam--You are being focused on getting in your exercise. You don't let the walker, etc. stand in your way.

Helene--Enjoy the visit with your sister.

Looking forward to the 25 degree temps again tonight. NOT!

Off to work by 7:30 but right now, I am having the usual Quaker Weight Control oatmeal. I'll take the Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt with me to eat as a snack and the Pure Protein bar for lunch.

I thought this was interesting and you likely received it:

Jean - always good to have that reinforcement. "You can't exercise your way out of a bad diet" says one of the trainers on these shows.

I'm watching an old extreme weight loss right now and was actually sniffling on the treadmill. This poor woman. When she was too young to even babysit she was left to watch her brother who fell, hit his head and died. She's been carrying that guilt. Now her husband is dying and they have two young kids. She works as a 911 operator. I don't know how this will end but I can see having to redefine "happy ending".

I'm getting ready to make eggs for breakfast. I'm taking a couple days to work on my chore list. Everything except my paid work is abysmally behind.

My dad called. He's fretting over his address change. "What if I go to the doctor and the address Medicare has isn't the address the doctor has - will Medicare pay?" None of my words seemed to help so he decided to go sit at the Social Security office to do a change of address.

My sister is racing east to go to a memorial service, sign the contract on their house, pack the house, and then race back west for house guests.

It was pouring rain last evening and supposed to freeze over night. We were envisioning the possibility of ice in April and how freaky that would be south of the Mason Dixon line. But the rain moved out before the cold moved in. Thank goodness!

I've got my food laid out and spreadsheet printed. I also did my grocery list for the week. Time to get back on the wagon and stay on the wagon!

I never noticed that it crunches. I actually like the dressing.

Off to work today. I also work Friday but tomorrow is unknown. It comes in and it goes out; this week takes care of a car payment.

The mid-week scale check went well.

This morning I'm going to have Nutriflakes with 1/2 banana.

I agree with Maryanne on the stuffing. The spices are a little over powering. But it's edible and not the worst of their meals. I think the cheese tortellini takes that place for me. I got it in my first boxes before I customized. I thought the tomatoes sauce was acidic so I never ordered it again.

We're having a good visit with my sister. Her knee looks good but still swells a lot if she's on it too much. We took her dog to the vet yesterday while DH and BIL worked on a flooring repair. They hope to finish it today but id not, we have some flexibility in our travel schedule.

I had a coupon for SlimFast snacks so I looked for them at the grocery store. The only ones they had were like 100-calorie bite size cookiie looking things. Front says "Protein + Fiber" prominently. Turned over the box - 3 whole grams of protein. Not impressive.

I'm going to have the NS new mac n cheese lunch with leftover steamed broccoli from last night. Right this minute I forget what I pulled out for dinner. Must have been exciting. Hee hee....

Helene - did your sister have a knee replacement? I overhead some people talking about those at the flea market. Sounds like a rough recovery.

I don't remember having the cheese tortellini in years.
  • Helene610
    Helene610 Posts: 2,858 Member
I haven't had the cheese tortellini in years either. It was one of the few meals I really couldn't make myself eat. Yes, she had keen replacement about 7 weeks ago. She's done well with the recovery. she's walking around the house with no walker/ Her main problem now is the leg swells if she'd on it too much. She's still icing it several times a day and she takes a pain pill now and then. all in all, I don't think it was as bad as you've heaard from others.
  • KonaKat
    KonaKat Posts: 3,411 Member
I've not tried the cheese tortellini. Tonight, I had the chicken with beans which isn't bad.

I've logged my food for 5 days. Tonight, I hit 1200 on the nose.

My niece had knee replacement surgery the middle of March. They started PT in the hospital
before she went home after two days in the hospital. She has been going to outpatient PT for
a couple of weeks on a regular basis.

It's amazing how quickly they get patients up and walking after joint replacement surgery. My sister is waiting to hear from PT place about a schedule for her therapy. She had at home therapy until last week. Her doctor wants her to continue PT at a facility because her hamstring and calf muscles are pretty weak. It's probably because she couldn't do much walking prior to surgery because of the pain. He wants her to rebuild those muscles. I think its more for that than for the knee itself. Pam may find she has to work on building up muscles and not ust the ankle because of prolonged inactivity.

Good job on logging your food. I'm sure you'll see better results doing that.

I got a good report today from my ortho Doctor. He pronounced my ankle bones fully healed and gave the okay for full weight-bearing on my foot. I can either use the boot without the walker, or a standard athletic shoe with the walker. He wants to wait awhile before scheduling surgery to remove the hardware, but definitely before the end of this year. He said that surgery is a much easier recovery, likely a couple of weeks in the boot to protect the joint, but much less of an ordeal than what I've been through so far.

For the last three days, on this site I see the entries spread out really wide and I can't find anyway to reformat it. It's very annoying to have to continually scroll left and right to read the entries. I use an iPad and this just started. Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?
