Jean..It's hard to believe you never tried the NS burger with all the years you've gotten NS. I liked it too as long as properly prepared. I remember on my fist NS board, a woman was talking about the burger and she hadn't realized it had to be rehydrated. so she ate it right out of the package it didn't care for it. We all had a laugh about it, told her how to prepare it and she was going to try it again. I liked mine with a slice of cheese and catchsup on a sandwich thin. I've used all of mine and I'm not buying NS anymore. My favorite dinner was the chicken and dumplings until they reformulated it. Later they discontinued it. That was probably because the people who liked the original wouldn't buy the replacement.
We're both pretty tired from our week at my sisters. I'm relaxing and reading the new Harlen Coben book.
Pam..I hope your neighbor recovers from the fall. It must have been terrible. At least his family are able to be with him.0 -
Helene--I think the reason I probably never tried the NS burger was that it had to be rehydrated. I really enjoyed the Kansas City AHA steak burgers which were about the same calories and higher in protein so I saw no reason to get an NS imitation.
I tried the chicken and dumplings and liked it but my favorite are the NS lasagna, both the veggie and meat varieties.0 -
Nothing new; same old, same old.0

I bought what burgers I could when NS discontinued them. What I didn't do was stock up on the ones Michele found outside NS because I figured I could always buy the KS Steak AHA burgers. And then THEY discontinued THOSE. So when my NS stash runs out that will be it!
I'm heading out today with one of the volunteers to see the colonies they feed. The person who lives near me has very serious cancer and just had major surgery. The person who is going to take me around this morning is her usual sub but she drives here from way northeast of Baltimore. True she doesn't work but it's still something that would be very difficult for her to do daily on a long term basis. I told her I'd often thought about offering to help but I know how picky they are. E.g. the fact that we're going this morning in the middle of the work day isn't something I'd be able to do routinely. But now with the very real possibility that the local person might not be back at it for weeks - or worst case scenario ever - I decided to offer to pitch in. So I'm going along this morning and will take notes!
I'm going to do JC frozen today. Spreadsheet is all set up and ready to go!

Maryanne...I'm sure the cats would adjust to whatever time schedule works out for you. They might not be happy but a free meal is a free meal. How far do you have to drive to step in? I hope the main person recovers and it able to do it again even on a limited basis. I'm sure taking care of the cats gives her incentive to fight the cancer.
Did Kansas City also discontinue the heart healthy steaks? I bought the auto plan from QVC but haaven't seen that in ages. That an the NS potatoes made a nice meal.0 -
Actually turns out the colonies are all very close to me. Now I'm trying to guilty myself into saying I'll do it more.
Kansas City heart healthy steaks still exist (or did the last time I checked).0 -
Helene--QVC no longer carries the Kansas City heart healthy steaks and steakburgers, just the regular versions. I just checked QVC. You might be able to get them directly from Kansas City.
Maryanne--I know that you will help when and where possible. You are so good hearted.
As I was checking the MFP home where the postings are made of the people and the number of consecutive days of posting, I saw that Pam had logged food for over 115 consecutive days and I believe Helene had posted over 85 consecutive days.
I had the NS ravioli for dinner with steamed veggies. I'm now off to fix some Wonderslim pudding.0 -
I'm in the low 70s but I didn't log food each of those days. I had been over 100 when I lost my computer access because of going on the seasonal plan up north. Then I had problems with my Comcast when I first arrived so I'm surprised I have as many days as I do. I did notice Pam is really up there. The site counts a day if you go to the home page.0
-
No weight loss this week. I had a hunch that might happen with the big loss last week plus adding an hour of exercise each day. Anytime I have started exercising, I have usually gained for a couple of weeks. So much for faithfully logging food, etc. for two weeks.
Off to work I got; that is something I do well.0 -
Heart healthy steaks - https://www.kansascitysteaks.com/American-Heart-Association.2.htm
Jean - that's a real bummer about exercise and weight gain. Geesh!
I've got my meals planned out for the day and spreadsheet filled in. I need to finish the grocery shopping and then get some work done.

Wow, yet another reason for me to stay off the acid reflux meds: http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/14/health/proton-pump-inhibitors-kidney-failure/index.html0

I'm surprised to learn that I logged food for that many days, but that was at least two years ago! I got tired of trying to log my food because I found it very tiresome to try to find equivalents for things I cooked at home. There is an option to enter the recipe and figure the nutritional info, but it was rather tedious. So I eventually gave up.
Today my SIL was supposed to drive up and spend a few days with us. We had planned some shopping excursions that I was really looking forward to since I haven't even been in a store of any kind since before Christmas. Unfortunately, she had to cancel because she's sick. I'm sorry she's ill but even sorrier to miss out on the shopping! I may venture out on my own to one store to pick up some things I really need and don't really trust DH to shop for. Straight men shopping for makeup items are a bad combo, lol!
My autocorrect is driving me nuts today! I'm trying to proofread and catch the errors, but if I miss any, blame it on autocorrect!0 -
After the discussion of logging, I decided to get back to it today. I haven't found that much problem with logging home cooked meals because I don't make a lot of casseroles. I enter the protein, veggies and carbs (meat, veggies, potato or rice) and the amount. I usually come up with a match. Or I use the ingredient nutrition panel on the products. I'm pretty good putting in breakfast and lunch but don't always get dinner logged. Tonight we're going to the volunteer dinner at church and I have no idea what the caterers are serving. So I probably won 't log dinner. I'll make sure I save some calories for tonight.
Pam..You probably didn't log that number of days. The number changes when you visit the home page, whether or not you log. Many days I go to the home page and then come to the groups but don't log.
Jean..You'll probably get a nice drop in a few days. Don't get discouraged. Just keep doing what you're doing.0 -
Sometimes autocorrect is truly annoying. I'm working on my outlines for the client seminar. Every time I try to type "HSA" for health savings account it comes up "HAS". Which happens to be my boss' initials but still...
Had the LC white cheddar mac n cheese for dinner over steamed broccoli. Actually excellent.
I got my grocery shopping done and dropped off 4 rolls of film at Rite Aid (I am SUCH a dinosaur). I got a frame for a picture of Sammy. Now I just need a picture!
The grocery store clerk and the customer in front of me were talking about Giant food stores hiring baggers. Apparently baggers have been a thing of the past but are making a come back. Who knew? LOL! If they'd just put the bags where they're accessible I'd happily do my own bagging. I had to help a Giant bagger last week because she couldn't lift the litter jugs or reach down to pick up things she'd dropped. She appeared to be considerably older than I am and I really felt sorry for her. I tried not to make it too obvious I was helping her do her job.

Sometimes DH will do our bagging for us. He likes his bags packed a certain way and he like as few bags as possible. Since we have to carry them upstairs, he doesn't cary how heavy as long as he only makes 1-2 trips up the stairs. We always ask for paper as well unless I've remembered to bring my own bags. Oftentimes, I'm going through the aisles when I remember I ;left the bags in the car. If I've got a close parking space, I'll go get them but most times I jsut ask for their paper bags.
I love that white cheddar mac. it's the closet frozen to homemade taste of any I've tried.
I logged in breakfast and lunch yesterday but we had the Volunteeeer dinner at church last night. I'd have no idea how to log a buffet so I skipped logging it. I'm trying to log 3 meals today.0 -
I'm feeling very proud of myself today. I did my first solo outing and had no problems. I made it to three different stores and got almost everything on my list of things I didn't want DH to try to get for me. I just didn't think he'd do well trying to buy makeup items, lol! This was the first time I've driven my car since before Christmas. I also needed to buy a birthday gift for a friend and a baby gift for another friend and wanted to choose those myself. The stores were all in the same center but I drove to each one because it's a very large center and the stores weren't close to each other. Having the handicapped placard certainly helped.
I'm wearing the boot and doing fairly well with it. The pain is bearable and this leaves my hands free so I can do things for myself. The alternative is to wear my gym shoes and use the walker, which is more comfortable but much more limiting since my hands aren't free.
Our grocery stores have never stopped bagging the groceries for us. Walmart has the clerks bagging the items as they check them, but the grocery stores almost always have a bagger working with the checkers. They'll even help you out to the car in most of the stores.
My SIL didn't come after all. She has been sick all week with a bad chest cold and was feeling worse yesterday. Plus she had to work late when she had hoped to be able to leave early, so she decided it was best to stay home. I'm kind of glad because I really don't want to catch her cold. Also, she really likes to shop and I don't think I'm up to a marathon shopping trip at this point. And finally, we have heavy rains predicted for the next week and shopping in the rain is no fun, especially for me right now when I can't move very quickly to get in out of the rain.0 -
Saving a visit with SIL for a better time was a smart choice for both of you. After you've been housebound so long, it would be terrible to catch whatever she has. It sounds like you did very well with your outing. I can only imagine how good it felt to be independent at last. When MIL used a walker, she had a basket that clamped on to the front support. She could put things in the basket to free up her hands when she needed the walker for walking rather than just support standing still.
We still have baggers at all the markets I use...both in MA and FL. They seem to be mostly high school students or seniors. I guess it fits into the schedule of someone wanting to work part time. Some baggers are good but some want to put 3 items in a plastic bag so you end up with 10 or more bags in your cart. I sometimes resort them in the parking lot just to consolidate into 4 bags or less. DH thinks I should watch them while they bag but I can't do that and watch the clerk scanning my items too. Watching the prices is more important to me to make sure the sales items ring up correctly.0 -
Pam--great news on making the solo trip. I know that makes you feel more self reliant and independent. Your SIL not coming is a mixed blessing at this point. I know that you would like to see her but shopping sprees at this point is not a good option for you.
Maryanne--We have never lost baggers. They have it down to a science, so I'm not going to interfere with that. I like the way they organize similar items together in bags and also know the limit of the bag to hold certain things.
Helene--Logging food at a buffet would be a challenge. I'm not a mac and cheese fan, so I've never tried the white cheddar mac and cheese. I do like Lean Cuisine items, especially the supreme pizza and the chicken woodfire bbq pizza.
I went to the city today with a friend to go grocery shopping at WalMart and to have lunch with another friend. To my surprise, they had gone behind my back and planned for this to be a belated birthday outing for me at the Outback.0 -
I am going back to the city today. My niece who had knee replacement surgery is being taken out by my other niece to have lunch and they have asked me to join them. I don't see them that often so this is a good opportunity. I see tilapia in my future for lunch.0
-
Pam - that's a huge step forward! I'm glad you were so successful.
Jean - belated birthday celebration sounds like fun! Enjoy your time with your nieces.
Helene - I'm often amazed at how strangely groceries get bagged and like you I often rearrange when I get to my car.
I've got my food planned for the day. I'm planning to spend time on the CROM newsletter and the client seminar. Lot hanging over my head right now.0 -
It's a beautiful day here today. We're in our final 2 weeks so we're going to start organizing things we want to take back with us. We're having the car serviced tomorrow and we'll bring some items to drop off at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. We have building items we pulled out for building reno which we want to donate. The store is in North Ft. Myers so we'll drive up there after the car appointment.
Jean..Did you have the tilapia?0 -
It's a gorgeous weekend here in Baltimore. DH is putting in the room air conditioners upstairs (we have central air but since it was added AFTER the house was built it isn't the best, especially upstairs) and I'm making great progress on the newsletter.
The guys are lounging! Here's all three tabbies:
0 -
Maryanne--Beautiful Tabbies! They look so comfy and at home. The in-room AC will be a welcomed addition.
Helene--The two weeks will pass quickly. Good thinking on the car appointment combined with donation.0 -
I thought I might have had a few too many bites of DH's food last week but I lost 2 1/2 pounds. Only 2 1/2 pounds to go to be "merely" overweight. I'd love to get to an appointment at Hopkins while not obese and make them take that out of their "portal". LOL!
Sammy's only gotten on the back of the couch like that a few times. I'm glad I got a pic.
Jessicat, at age 14, has suddenly decided she wants the spot next to me and quite neatly and with minimum fanfare has relegated Tuffy to the end like that all of a sudden.
The food is laid out for today and the spreadsheet printed. Tomorrow I take Jack to Virginia to the internist so I'll have to remember to pack something for lunch.

I love the cat pic. My Cagney looked like Sammy. She's my avatar. It will seem strange to go home to no cats. I found a couple more items for the donation. We replaced a ceiling fan and we have a box of tiles we took off the walk around the tub last year. Thy're in good shape but we wanted something with more decorative flair than plain white squares. I'm sure someone can put them to good use.0
-
Maryanne--congrats upon the weight loss. That is fabulous. According to MFP and the calories I have been posting,
it will take me five weeks to lose five pounds.
Helene--It definitely will be different going home and not having a fur baby awaiting your return. Good job on
the donations.
Since I found out that MFP doesn't report the number of consecutive days of posting food, I won't be checking out the
"home page." I am automatically signed in so I can post on the groups as well as post my food. I would think they would
recognize posting of food since that is a main emphasis.0 -
Today was 1210 calories and one hour of exercise. I work tomorrow.0
-
Off to work, fueled by the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal. The Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt will go with me
for a snack, and the NS white bean chili will be lunch, along with some pepper strips.0 -
I've been on an egg breakfast kick the last couple days. I'll probably do that this morning before Jack and I leave for the internist in Virginia. I have our bags packed (hee hee) including kindle and the book I'm actually reading, Jack's labs, protein bar, Jack's meds and a few other things. Left DH's dinner ready to be nuked in case we're not back by dinner time. Sometimes we aren't and if you leave Northern Virginia too late, and hit rush hour, it can take FOREVER.
Jean - good job on the calories and exercise! That NS lunch chili is too spicy for me I'm afraid. Enjoy!
I bought a box of the Weight Watchers super grains hot cereal to intersperse with the Weight Control for variety.
I realized the other day that I haven't done "packet day" for awhile. I need to get back into that as it's an easy way for me to have a day when I'm not hungry and my calories are low.
Vet just faxed me a carefully completed adoption app from someone who wants to adopt a Siamese. Huh? Guess I'll email her and give her contact info for Siamese Rescue. I would love to adopt a cat from them but I guess it will never happen so maybe I can send them someone else.
I am really enjoying the new TLC series Long Lost Family. They are helping people who were adopted and people who gave up children for adoption to find their families. What's super fascinating is how they are going about the detecting, using new tools including DNA analysis and looking for matches on ancestry.com. The two hosts are both people who were adopted and who found their families.
Helene - sorry you are going back to a home without a furbaby. I can't even imagine!

Maryanne--Your egg breakfast kick reminds me that I bought 2 boxes of the Special K breakfast sandwiches. I think
I will have one tomorrow morning. I head back to work the same classroom tomorrow.
I like it when the estimated calories per serving are listed on the package. I had a Stouffers loaded cheese and potato cup
for dinner along with my NS entrée. A cup is 200 calories so it sounds high but this was a day I was not overwhelmed with
calories so I decided to have it. It is excellent. The package, found in the frozen food area, contains two cups.0
