There are 2 frittatas to a serving, 3 servings to a box. I ate one and threw out the other 5. I thought it was awful. Just had a really strange taste and I can eat almost anything (as proof - I had an expired NS meat loaf/mashed potatoes for dinner). I'm going to stick to Smart Ones and my own eggs.
It is really gray here, although not actually raining at the moment. Our garden not only isn't planted because of the rain and a lot of the plants that DH grew from seed have really suffered. Who knows what, if anything, we'll get from the garden this year.0 -
I think I've been MIA this week, but I have been reading your posts. It's been a quiet, non-eventful week so far, but tomorrow we are driving down to Houston for our great nephew's first birthday party. This will be our first visit back to the "scene of the crime" where I broke my ankle, so this should be interesting. It looks like a rainy weekend in Houston, so I'm not sure what we'll be doing besides the birthday party. Neither of us is particularly looking forward to the trip, but we need to go. The baby and his parents will be moving to France for two years and they leave next month, so if we don't go we may not see them for quite awhile. The party promises to be a pretty large gathering with all of the baby's mother's family and their local friends as well as our side, although our side of the family is a small group of four.
Our neighbor is back in the USA, in a rehab hospital in our area. The reports are that he is doing well, but has a long way to go before he can return home. For now they are limiting visitors to family only, so we have been unable to visit him as yet. We are so happy that he is back here and making progress.0 -
Pam - make sure you avoid the actual scene of the crime - don't want a repeat. LOL!
I'm glad your neighbor is back in the US. Here's hoping he continues to do well.
I had pancakes for breakfast. The gas company's subcontractors are back in our neighborhood today digging up yards. They are supposed to do ours. Since I have to go to the doctor (another thyroid biopsy oh joy) DH will be in charge of watching the door. Supposedly only one guy needs to come in once to check for leaks and relight the pilots. But I still hate leaving DH in charge. He gets all wrapped up in what the workers are doing rather than protecting the cats. But the doctor is doing me during her lunch hour so I didn't want to cancel either. I've done pretty well all week not thinking about the biopsy. I have a protein bar in my purse.

I opened up the package that contains the Leslie Sansone Miracle Miles walking dvds. They seem to be very flexible in the way you can combine them to get the desired exercise, miles,
etc. Now to use them!
There was only a half day of instruction today as the afternoon is reserved for a state required meeting of teachers to discuss concerns and seek resolutions, etc. As a result, I'm home early as I'm blessed with not having to go to the meeting.
It is sunny today so after resting, I might venture out and start trimming some shrubbery. I really need to take the entire afternoon for rest as I'm not feeling the greatest, but the weather forecast for the weekend calls for more rain.

The gas company subcontractors ran into a glitch. They were expecting plastic pipes with a short copper pipe connection into the house. Instead, it's totally copper. Apparently that requires a different crew. Geesh! They found the same thing in every house they sampled on the block to no one's surprise except maybe theirs.
Biopsy is done. I should get the results toward the end of next week. I hope it's not "inconclusive" again. If it is I imagine she'll recommend surgery. The surgery itself doesn't worry me over much but living without a thyroid? I haven't had the guts to google the impact on weight!

Maryanne--Glad the biopsy is over with good results. You have a legitimate reason to worry about the consequences, but weight might not be a problem with the right level of meds.
It is a cold, rainy day with the temperatures below normal. I think they will be in the upper 30s tonight. I had the usual for breakfast but would have loved to make a run to town to get some sausage gravy and biscuits. I didn't but wish NS still carried that entrée.0 -
We have a local candy company named Wockenfuss. Their factory is right across the street from CROM's printer. After I picked up the mailing I went across the street and got DH his beloved Australian licorice. I bought NOTHING for me. When I think about what I typically buy and eat in a week or two - thousands and thousands and thousands of calories I imagine. Didn't buy 'em.
DH has been fretting over Windows 10. He's convinced we'll wake up some morning and our computers will have been switched. The fact that that would mean total havoc to the business world so that I can't even imagine it happening did not assuage his anxiety. So he decided to switch. At least that's kept him busy today. I was curious if CROM's data base would work so he tested that and it does.
I had eggs for breakfast and a salad with turkey for lunch. Got the newsletter all counted out into boxes to take to the vet for volunteers to pick up. And did a bunch of other chores.

I tried to post yesterday evening but the site was doing some fine-tuning. Yesterday was another rainy day so I couldn't get the outside work done. Today, I actually see some sunshine.
I wasn't overly hungry for breakfast so I had a VitaTop muffin. I have one left, but I'll wait to order until I see another special. I do like these. I'll have one of the NS luncheon cups for lunch.0 -
There is a recipe in this plus some other info on cereal versus egg for breakfast:

Jean - interesting article!
A gorgeous sunny day today but it's chilly. I drove to one of the more far flung grocery stores today to pick up some things only they have - a nice Sunday drive.
I've also been playing around on ancestry.com. I'm trying to get organized so that I'm not flitting around all over the place. Sent a message to the one second cousin they think I have. We shall see if he/she responds. That's the closest DNA match they found. I know 2 of the 3 next closest DNA matches.0 -
Maryanne--Yes, it is getting chilly. We have freeze warnings for tonight and yes, the heat is on. I have wondered about the DNA thing; do they actually take DNA samples? I would be afraid to discover I am related to the 21st Century noted serial killer or something like that. My grandmother on my mother's side was adopted and supposedly had some Indian blood. I know nothing about my father's parents, grandparents, etc.0
-
Yes, you send them saliva and they do a DNA test. Family lore had us with native american blood and that was what I was most curious about. Lore was all it was! The biggest surprise was how Scandinavian we are. I never would have guessed that. The other thing I'm interested in is where we came into the country, when and from where. The first line I've managed to trace offshore came from - Sweden! We've been in this country a long, long time so tracing back to where we came in isn't easy. Especially if you're limited to what's on the computer. I've found a lot of surnames I never associated with us.
My one aunt loved to tell the story about being approached to join the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) to which her response was "on which side"? I know she had a lot of family history records but I have no clue what happened to all of it. One of my 3rd cousins who showed up on ancestry through DNA says she tried to get all that from my one uncle with no success.
Another of her stories was that we're related to Clark Gable (my mother's maiden name was Gable). At a recent family dinner someone said "you know, his name probably wasn't even Gable". Suddenly it hit me - that was probably true. When I came home I googled it and guess what - Gable was his real name. So that family lore still hasn't been definitively disproved.
I wish I'd been interested while more of my family was still alive. I did talk my dad out of some materials he had from my grandmother. I was thrilled he hadn't tossed it. He doesn't know much though. E.g. he doesn't even know where his middle name came from. Can you imagine being so lacking in curiosity you'd never ask about your own middle name??? He did know his own dad's middle name which isn't anywhere. And I mean it's nowhere. It's "Alvin". I guess when the chipmunks came along he made sure his middle name wasn't listed anywhere. LOL!
Odd things catch my interest. E.g. I was supposedly named after my mother's piano teacher's daughter but I've found several Mary Ann's on the family tree including a fairly close relative of my mothers which makes me wonder if I wasn't really named for a relative. (My legal name is actually Mary Ann - I christened myself Maryanne in 11th grade when I got tired of being called Mary.)
0 -
Maryanne--That is really interesting. I just wonder how valid the DNA test is. I love the story behind your name change. Many years ago, we had a student whose last name was Bush. The non-thinking parents named her "Rose" with no middle name. Students being students, of course, couldn't resist calling her "Rose Bush" all the time. She wasted no time, when of legal age, to changing her name by adding a middle name, at which time she became the middle name plus Bush with the initial R. used only when necessary.0

I'm not working today, so I'll be going to the city to get my nails done, get the car's first service done, get groceries, etc. Coffee infusion is underway and then the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal.0
-
Jean - when I was typing about visiting the "far flung" grocery store I realized it is nowhere near as far away as you have to go!
Since the DNA test turned up three people I KNOW are relatives I think there's at least some validity there. I've thought about also doing the 123andme test to see what.who it turns up.
I got a response from the second cousin. Turns out it's a man who "administers" the profile for his wife. She's my relative. He didn't offer to put me in touch with her. Strange. He did give me some info about where she fits on my tree.
There was a student at our school named Theodore Bear. How could parents be so cruel?
My dad was one of my teachers when I "changed" my name. You should have seen his face the first time I passed a paper up the aisle with my "new" name. He didn't know what to do because overall I was the "good kid". Quiet, shy, good grades, never in trouble, etc. He and mom settled on just ignoring me. To this day he ignores it. Of course since I've never legally changed my name I guess that's okay. I discovered to my amazement that the world doesn't care what I call myself. I was a little afraid when it was time to file for social security that the fact that my paychecks for decades had been in a different name than my social security account might be a problem but no!
(My dad taught physics, chemistry and advanced math and coached basketball and baseball. I always joked that the only boys who weren't terrified of him - i.e. the only boys who would date me - were the wrestlers in future farmers of america.)
I was sort of prepared for non exciting news on the scale this week. My virtuous feeling from passing up thousands of calories of candy led me to be a little sloppy on the calories this weekend. But I lost 3 pounds! The body is strange sometimes. I am now exactly half way to my goal of a normal BMI.0 -
Maryanne--You have the best luck in losing weight. Congrats! I know people think it is an excuse but I think my metabolism is very low. I am always cold except in the Summer when I am comfy. The heart med I take promotes weight gain also. If I go above 1700 cal, I will gain weight if I do that on a daily basis. I discovered that through the logging of food.
I like to have fish once a week for the Omega 3s in it, so I had the grilled tilapia with steamed veggies at the Outback and brought part of it home to have the rest for dinner.0 -
Jean - I'm sure there are differences in metabolism. Heaven knows mine is different than it was when I was younger.
I had my eggs for breakfast and now I'm ready to get to work!0 -
We got back home last night after a 4 day stay in NJ. On the way there, we stopped in Conshocken PA to check out the kitchen cabinets I'm interested in. We were impressed with the quality so we'll pursue it in earnest next winter. I did something to my back over the weekend. I must have twisted the wrong way getting into bed. It's pretty sore so I called my chiropractor yesterday while on Garden State Pkwy. His assistant worked me in this morning and asked if DH wanted to be seen too. So we're both seeing him this morning. I should feel a lot better once he gets everything into alignment. We were surprised to see the trees haven't leafed out here yet so it still looks a bit winterly and it's only around 60 degrees. We left high 80s in FL so it's a bit of a shock to the system.
Maryanne..I wonder if you got a bad package of the frittatas. Hungry Girl gave them a good review. If I see them, I'll try a box and let you know what I think. Interesting story about your name. My sister did the same thing. Her name is Rosemary which she hated. She uses Rose since High School. My mother never stopped calling her Rosemary.0 -
Good morning, everyone! I started the day with the Special K breakfast sandwich. I love those things.
Helene--Glad that the cabinets seem to be a great buy for the future. Sorry that you did something to your back.
Maryanne--Lose your weight while young; the metabolism slows down, slows down as you age. I am so old that I don't know why I bother.0 -
Want to know your estimated BMR or basal metabolic rate?
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
Mine has dropped to 1355.0 -
Helene - I'm glad your back safely and will get your back looked at. It is a weird spring this year. I have no clue if our garden will ever take off.
Jean - have to laugh at the thought of doing anything while I'm still young. Most of the time I don't have time to think about how old I am and that's probably a good thing.0 -
I am so tired of this rain and gloom every day. I had a Kellogg's Special K breakfast sandwich for breakfast. Up two pounds.0

Jean - I'm sorry you are up two pounds. That sucks big time!!!
After we got past the morning, it was a fairly nice day here. I think it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow.
I'm having "packet day" today. A day that starts with pancakes - what's not to like?
I'm subbing NS beef stew for dinner because what I usually have is out of stock so I'm hoarding. I have tons of NS beef stew and it's in the same calorie range as the packets.
Sammy begs for people food. First time in a long time I've had a cat at my feet at the dinner table. Tonight DH gave him some of his ham. Or rather let me give it to him so I'm still his hero. LOL!

Our weekend trip to Houston went ok. My SIL was a little nervous about me walking at first, but she seemed to relax after awhile. The birthday party was fun but a one year old is really clueless about what all the fuss is about, lol! On Sunday SIL and I went shopping at a nice outlet mall and I found a few things I needed. She pushed me all over that place in the wheelchair, so my feet were spared.
I've been playing catch up all week since we got back, getting laundry and other chores done. We've been having rain almost every day, which makes me want to stay home. I need to get out and run a few errands, so I'll have to force myself to do that tomorrow.
Those 7 pounds I lost while I was sick/injured are finding me again. I'm still down a couple of pounds, and trying to lose the rest again but this past weekend didn't help at all. We ate out a couple of times and of course the birthday party was a landmine of treats and other high calorie foods. I'm not able to do any aerobic exercise yet and that is usually what I need to do in order to lose weight, so I'm a little frustrated on this front right now.
Our neighbor continues to improve, but still is not able to have visitors. He had a slight setback caused by pressure sores from lying immobile in bed for so long, but he is back in full-time rehab now and working hard. His family has not indicated how long he is expected to be in rehab, but apparently he is very anxious to get back home.0 -
Pam - I just watched an Extreme Weight Loss from last summer. The contestant/star/loser (not sure what to call her) broke her foot shortly after arriving in Colorado. She had one of those scooter things. Chris Powell fretted over how he was going to get her heart rate up. They finally got her exercising by (1) "running" around the track on one leg and the scooter (2) rowing with one leg and (3) using one of those machines where you peddle with your arms. She lost a ton of weight. Puts me to shame now that I have two (mostly) good feet!
Today is my sister's birthday. I need to give her a call. The time difference isn't automatic to me yet!

Pam--I am glad you had a wonderful time. It is understandable that you are frustrated over not being able to exercise the way you want.
Maryanne--I've been watching Extreme Weight Loss on a couple of different cable channels. Happy Birthday to your sister.
NS lasagna and steamed veggies for dinner. Lunch was Progresso Light soup with Dannon Light and Fit greek yogurt as a mid-afternoon snack.

Good morning, everyone! I was up at 5:15 so this will be a long day. Right now, I have a black cat staring at me but I know he isn't hungry as we both have had breakfast. I guess he is wanting attention.
I had the usual Quaker Weight Control oatmeal for breakfast. The weather, except for the temperature, is expected to be half-way decent today.0 -
Jean - that's hilarious. My sister said they moved to Arizona for the sun but where's the sun?0
-
Midnight is taking his morning nap now. I've spent some time reading about Dr. Now from "My 600 Lb. Life."
http://drnowmd.com/
This reading was motivated by a comment on Facebook regarding who pays for those surgeries.
Off to have my mid-morning snack of Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt.0
