Maryanne--If you had a "left branch bundle block" which disappeared, that is a good thing. The "block" causes a delay in nerve impulses and less efficient pumping of the blood.

I was hoping to have dropped 10 pounds by the end of this quarter, but I've been on a stall for a couple of weeks. All those 'magic' ways to end a stall haven't done a thing. In fact, I gained a pound so right now I'm down 7 instead of the 8 pounds I was two weeks ago.

I'm finishing out the first six months of 2016 down 27 1/2 pounds from my all-time high. I gave some back last week but I'm back on track now.

30 1/2 pounds to my ultimate goal. Just need to keep on keeping on!

I'm doing the 150 minutes a week on the treadmill but having no luck forcing myself to start increasing that. Or starting the strength training. Giving myself lots of speeches but not getting there.

Maryanne---You have done a tremendous job in both watching food as well as exercise. Food is fine but if I am going to lose more, I really have to exercise and I do not like it.

Jean - I don't like exercise either. I'd rather be reading. I think the key to exercise is if you are just a naturally active person and I've never been. Not even as a kid. Feeding the colonies is good for me in that regard as it is some activity. Yesterday I fixed up a rubbermaid container at the one colony to protect the food bowls. Stuff like that is more active than I usually am.

I've had a quiet week this week because DH worked all five days. Love it!

Today and the next three days I'm hoping to do a few chores and get some billable work done.

Maryanne--Reading is much more fun than exercise. Exercise to me is getting from Point A to Point B by naturally walking. To walk by other means or reasons reminds me of being a hamster in a cage....there is mindless walking but it never gets you anywhere.

I will start the next quarter's challenge/discussion on July 5. It doesn't seem appropriate to begin a new one until the festivities are over for those indulging in them.

NS is having a 40% off sale on a la carte items.

Up at 5am. I've been going through paperwork, boxes, etc. It is sunny but rain is expected to move in for the 4th. I've read of this technique:

    Breakfast was two eggs.

Pam..I read that book over the winter. I got a chuckle out of that list. Count me in the exercise hater group too. I can do fun activities but crunches and things like that are boring and I can't make myself do them. I did okay on Curves until they went out of business and I loved water aerobics. I can do them in FL but have no access at home. I met my new primary care doctor yesterday and liked her a lot. It was mostly a meet and greet, vital sounds and talking about medical history. She has me getting bloodwork in August and I'll have a physical in September. She didn't mention my weight yet. So that gives me incentive to lose some before I see her again. I guess that will be my next quarter goal.

Pam--I've read part of that book and think the graphic is very appropriate.

Helene--Glad you like your new primary care doctor. Love your goal for the next quarter.

I have to see two specialists in September, so like Helene, I want to show up with a weight low point.

It was sunny today so I made a run to the city as rain is expected for the holiday. I didn't eat out. I have plans for that on Wednesday if weather permits me going back to the city as I have an appointment then and have plans to have lunch with my niece and cousin.

    Pam - that's hilarious!

Helene - glad you like your new doctor.

Jean - I see DH laid out an article for me from today's paper. Something about a shelter helping W Va victims.

I have to feed the colonies today and then get some work done. Weekends are my prime time to work. Turns the week on its head I know but the week is emails and instant messages and almost constant barragement (guess that's not a word but it should be LOL!).

Maryanne--There has been much assistance coming to the victims. There has been a problem with people "sightseeing" which has interfered with efforts to help, so they have issued a warning against doing it. It is human nature to want to see things like this but I can also see how it would interfere. I am not in the areas affected so all I have seen is what is on the news.

It is amazing how much my weight can fluctuate from day to day. Last evening, I had an urge for a reuben which I love but haven't had in months. This morning, my rings which were loose yesterday were tight. I hopped on the scales and had gained over 2 pounds since yesterday. I guess it had to be from the sodium in it.

I am watching a Leslie Sansone dvd trying to get motivated to start doing that again.

Looks like I did pretty good last week losing my gain of the week before. If I don't keep a tight lid on things I'm in trouble. If I'm going to get down to a normal BMI those splurges have to be few and far between. More importantly that needs to be true forever.

You'd think the people who would have it made are those who would rather bike than read, e.g. but my sister is one of those and she's roughly the size I am or my mother was. Makes you wonder. Of course she's also a gourmet cook!

Looks like the local shelter got involved because they make regular trips to W Va to pick up dogs that need homes and so feel a special tie to the area. At the moment they are actually collecting stuff for humans not pets. Turns out it's a shelter we know well because the founder used to be the office manager at one of the vets we use.

There’s a cat in the big cage in the laundry room. She’s a stray, not a feral. She’s the only cat at the colonies who was more interested in me than in the food. She’s been living in a tree behind Pep Boys! They don’t want her there so Lil and Sharon never put any shelters, or even any food bowls. We sort of slink in, leave food on the ground, and slink out. I went over last evening to scope out what it’s like over there on the only evening that Pep Boys is closed. I had no intention of trying to get her yet. But then I started to think about the storm tomorrow. And she wanted petted. And well, I just couldn’t leave her there. If she turns into a great pet – fine! If she doesn’t, I’ll talk Fran into taking her to the farm.

DH is of course upset. The fact that we have Sammy because he couldn't give him up after only a few hours with him is of course not relevant! Helene - want a cat?

I'll take her to the vet tomorrow to get her vetting updated. She's eating but hasn't used the litter box yet. I went down a little while ago and she let me pet her. She's not in the hidey hole in the cage which is a real tip off that she's a stray not a feral. I even got a purr or two!

There are two other cats apparently that show up at Pep Boys infrequently so my guess is they are being fed elsewhere as well. So if worst comes to worst and Pep Boys really comes after us at least the one "regular" is safe.

Maryanne--Like you, I have to watch carefully what I eat or do. If I don't I balloon rapidly. There is a big emphasis in the state on food for the survivors and that includes the animals. I don't know how much the animal part is promoted out of state. It is hard for people to use a lot of clothes when they have no home to go back to but they do need to eat as well as use personal care items.

I did a mile of Leslie's Miracle Mile program. It is more intense than many of her programs. I made it through the mile, watching that count down clock and saying to myself, "You can make it through one more minute....and then another minute, etc."

I try not to watch the minutes on the treadmill - I keep a hand towel on the treadmill to cover it - but sometimes I can't help myself!

Pam - good one! And the better it tastes the more calories it seems to have! I'm planning to have extra calories tomorrow so hopefully I won't be starving to death on Wednesday for colonoscopy prep. May be a mistake but I'm doing it anyway!

I had plenty of extra calories tonight. Our neighbor, who is originally from Sweden, came over and had dinner with us. We grilled some salmon, had roasted asparagus, rice pilaf, salad, bread, and key lime pie for dessert. It was a really delicious meal, but I usually don't eat nearly that much for dinner. And I had wine with my dinner and afterward when we sat and chatted, so I'm sure the scale will reflect this tomorrow. On the plus side, it was nice to have a chance to get to know Lars a bit. He and his family moved in earlier this year but due to my ankle issues, I hadn't had a chance to get acquainted. His wife and family are spending the summer in Sweden, and Lars will be flying over to join them tomorrow for three weeks. DH saw him as he was leaving for work this morning, and he could tell that he was feeling a bit down due to working on the holiday and missing his family, so DH called him and invited him to dinner after checking with me. It was a nice evening, but I'll be cursing the scale in the morning, lol!

Aside from prepping dinner and doing some laundry, it was a low-key Fourth of July for us. Most of the cities around us had their fireworks displays on Saturday or Sunday nights, so tonight the only fireworks are from individuals here and there. Legally, they are not supposed to set them off within the city limits, but it is nearly impossible to enforce the ban so people do it anyway. Luckily, Mother Nature put on a pretty spectacular fireworks display early this morning with a three hour thunder and lightening storm, with heavy rainfall. That left all of the roofs and grass pretty wet, so the fireworks shouldn't cause too much of a problem due to of fire danger.

I have a follow up visit with my ortho doctor tomorrow to check my ankle. I don't know if we will be scheduling the surgery to remove the hardware yet or not. I would prefer to wait until sometime in the fall, unless he insists on doing it sooner. I will have to go back into the boot for a couple of weeks afterward, and I'd rather not do that while it is so hot if I don't have to. On the other hand, as long as I have hardware in there, I have to stay on the antibiotic and I would like to ditch that. I've been on it continuously since January, and I'm really tired of taking it.

Pam - how sweet of your DH to invite your neighbor (and to check with you first). Sounds like a great dinner. Good luck at the doctor.

We had loud noise Sunday and Monday nights. Around here it's fireworks AND gunfire. SO many idiots think a holiday means shooting their guns. Don't they know the bullets come DOWN? And they say we have some of the tightest gun control laws of any states. Couldn't prove it by me.

I'm calling the little girl in my laundry room Indy (for Independence Day). I'm planning to run her to the vet this morning. Luckily they let me do stuff like that. Showing up unannounced with a cat. They'll work her in when they get a chance.

Pam--What a wonderful time you had. I do hope today's visit with the ortho goes well. I do hope the surgery is scheduled for a good time for you.

Maryanne--I love the name "Indy." Very appropriate. July 4 is an excuse for much behavior that is not appropriate.

I have started the third quarter thread.
