I think this might be what last year's July title was? It works though.
Carla, catching up from your last June post, I haven't tried the Amy's veggie burgers. Are they good? I like a good veggie burger now and then. I usually buy the Boca brand or occasionally Luna Burgers. I make black bean burgers sometimes, Peas and Thank You cookbook has a good recipe for them. I keep meaning to try one of the Oh She Glows recipes for veggie burgers. Her recipes always seem to turn out well for me. How is Ruby's training going? Congrats on your baby chicks! They are so cute when they are babies.
Goals for this month, stay the course and keep at the 6 week plan. I'm down 6 pounds which isn't that impressive for as far into it as I am, but I had a pretty busted out weekend last week and figuring there will be some alcohol this weekend with the 4th of July. Main thing is to get back at it after indulging. That's where I go wrong every time. I let myself have one little indulgence and I go crazy for a week lol. Also get more consistent with exercise, and figure out some ways to manage stress better. I think I need to make a concentrated effort to do yoga every day. It always makes me feel stronger and less tensed up.
I got off early today, around noon, ran a bunch of errands, including the grocery so I'm totally stocked on greens and the things I need to make the recipes I planned (red lentil cauliflower curry and french green lentil salad).
B - skipped it, overslept (I think my brain thought I really did have the day off) then had a lara bar when I got to the office
Late lunch / early dinner - hummus quesadilla
Will have some watermelon and a salad later this evening before going to a neighbor's house, they are having a cookout, and will probably have a glass or two of wine. I'm sure they won't have much in the way of vegan food so I'll eat before I go. I really don't like when people stress over whether they will have vegan food for me when they invite me over, it makes me uncomfortable. I don't mention it generally, but most people know I am so they worry. I don't want my food choices to make other people stress.

I keep meaning to make OSG veggie burgers too. Speaking of, did you know she has her second cookbook coming out in September? I have a lot of cookbooks, but her recipes always turn out for me too, so I'm planning to get it. Glad you got off of work early! Nice to be stocked with fresh veggies. Did you have a good time at the cookout?
Lots to do today including getting some wire to secure our fencing further so the chicks can roam around outside of the coop. Ruby is doing well. She loves being put through the paces in exchange for treats. We're having Joe's dad and his wife over for dinner this weekend. They want to talk about their funeral plans. Sounds like a lovely dinner conversation LOL. I'm sure it will actually be fine. They are good company.
Goals for July:
more greens!
keeping up with daily exercise
Breakfast: smoothie
Lunch: falafel sandwich with veggies
Dinner: thai peanut noodle bowl
Exercise: yard work0 -
I have seen the new OSG book is coming out... can't wait! Hers are definitely in my top go to books and websites. I have a ton of cookbooks too. Yikes, that doesn't sound like a fun dinner conversation, but good for them taking the initiative. It's tough for the family to have to deal with making decisions when they are grieving.
I did make it to the cookout for a little bit. Had two beers and got to chat with a couple neighbors I haven't really got to know before.
Got up and ran errands and have been cleaning the rest of the day. Have quite a bit done but losing faith I will get it all done in one day. It's a big house and I've neglected my housework lately with working so much. I've mostly just kept the bathrooms and kitchen clean and ignored the rest.
B - just had some coffee
L - PB sandwich and cantaloupe
D - plan to make the French green lentil salad and some corn on the cob, more cantaloupe
I want to make another batch of the OSG detox salad tonight so it can rest overnight. I didn't like it all that much the first day, but after the flavors have time to meld it is really good.

Yesterday was pretty off the rails... didn't end up cooking any of my healthy recipes. Cleaned for a while, did some work, read. Going to the office shortly. Wasn't going to get up at 5 a.m. on a holiday to get in early though.
Yesterday...
B - oatmeal topped with blueberries and vanilla coconut milk yogurt
L - Boca "chicken" patty on a wheat bun with a slice of Daiya provolone style, lettuce, tomato, onion, some potato chips
D - hummus quesadilla, 2 corona light
S - watermelon
Getting back on track today! Here's the plan...
B - smoothie with lots of greens
L - BIG salad with lots of veggies and black beans
D - stir "fry" veggies
S - watermelon

Hi guys!
Sorry for being the opposite of a pal in June!! I hope I'll be around more in July. June-Sept is always our crazy time at work and I stupidly decided to move in June! We are finally all unpacked though. Despite issues with our idiotic painters (ie. lots of clean up), it finally looks like a house. Only half full of furniture, but I am really happy there. It feels peaceful to sit on the back deck, our street is quiet, and the commute is SO much better for both of us.
We are settling into REAL home ownership now that we have a lawn to maintain... our shower has already leaked, dryer doesn't seem to be drying, and drywall won't let me hang towel racks lol. But I'm sort of okay with it and trying to learn to be more handy.
Monday - Friday I'm eating really well! this weekend was kind of insane though. A LOT of bad foods and a lot of good company... they always seem to coincide. It was a great weekend though. We had Friday off. I'm guesing you guys are off today though?
Mihani, awesome awesome about the 6 lbs!!! That's nothing to balk at (takes no time to put that on lol). How was the cookout though? And does it feel better having everything clean?
Carla, how was the family discussion? I love that you have baby chicks now too!! Woohoo!!! How is everything going? are you settled?0 -
Lia! Glad to see you back. I'm so glad that you feel at home already in the new place, but sorry to hear you're having homeowner issues already. It never ends does it? I swear at 52 I'm ready to move into an apartment or condo and not have to deal with all of it anymore. It's too much for one person who works the hours I do.
I stuck to my plan today, almost. I had two beers left in the refrigerator so of course I had to drink them while I made dinner lol. I have no beer or wine left in the house which is good. I have a stocked liquor cabinet but I don't drink that, it's just for parties and guests. I am planning to stick with the 6 week plan through the month of July, and won't buy any more beer or wine until I'm through it. Alcohol leads to bad food choices in my world.
1 -
Hi Lia! Great that you are all unpacked already and enjoying your back yard and the commute. I hope you get the leaks and dryer issues sorted out. We're having an adjustment period with some of the things in our new place as well, mostly the kitchen appliances which are high end but not working near as well for us as our previous appliances.
Mihani, I agree about the alcohol and bad food choices. My in-laws brought over champagne to toast to our new house and we had mojitos ready when they came over. I get tipsy pretty fast and there was garlic bread and spaghetti with sauce around. A dangerous combo where I'm concerned!
The family discussion regarding funeral arrangements turned out okay. It didn't take long and was pretty light as far as discussions about death can be! We had a good time giving them a tour of the property and the house. Our chicks are doing well so far and we let them out for a few hours this weekend when it was warm out. So far they are indoors for the most part and we have a heat lamp on during the night.
Breakfast - oatmeal (cool day and couldn't face a cold smoothie)
Snack - peanut butter on pita bread
Lunch - mushroom ravioli w/ pesto
Dinner - spaghetti sauce & noodles, side salad
not the best of plans, but we have leftovers! better choices tomorrow.

Carla, I'm glad the chickens will have a run where they can get outside. When we had chickens back when I was in high school we had the same thing and they loved to get outside. Glad you had a nice visit with the in-laws.
B - smoothie
L - Amy's pad thai (not planned forgot my lunch)
D - BIG salad, cantaloupe
0 -
Mihani, the chickens have a really large area to roam around in, and I'm happy about that too! It is our orchard as well, so we're getting the benefit of automatic natural fertilizer too. For now they are sticking very close to the coop but I'm sure they'll start to explore more soon. It should be a nice day today so I'm going to let them out after lunch once I'm sure there are no coyotes around. The fence protects them somewhat but I don't want to take any chances.
How is the Amy's pad thai?
Our new ride on mower arrives some time today. We're excited to try that. It is a lot like having a new toy!
Today:
Breakfast: smoothie
Lunch: falafel and veggies in a pita
Dinner: broccoli ginger tofu stir fry thing (forget the name!)
Snack: pineapple or fruit salad
Activity: you guessed it, weeding!
chickens: dark brown one is Ruth, white one is Opal, the twins are Lucy and Ethel, the buff one is Henrietta, and the last one with her foot in the air is Stella.0 -
Carla the chickens are so cute, and I love the names! Very clever. The Amy's pad thai is pretty good, but I think the OSG noodle bowl is much better. I even love the OSG leftover cold like a salad the next day.
Today was super busy and stressful. Sometimes I think short weeks are worse than regular weeks.
B - smoothie (water, spinach, berries, vanilla)
L - OSG tortilla soup from my freezer stash, cantaloupe
D - big ol' salad with spring mix, black beans, avocado, onion, tomatoes, salsa
0 -
Great job on those big salads for dinner, Mihani! Yes, short weeks can for sure be more stressful. At least the weekend comes sooner (if you manage to get the weekend off, that is!)
Our mower didn't come yesterday, so hopefully it shows up today. Too bad because it was nice out yesterday and so far it is drizzly today. Ruby peed on the floor in the garage this morning. I know she's just a puppy but it is getting frustrating. We were outside and I went in the garage for 1 second to get my gloves. She followed me in and boom! We have a dog training book arriving tomorrow so hopefully we get some good suggestions in there.
I am missing my OSG cookbook! Our realtor borrowed it when she did an open house at our old place and hasn't gotten around to returning it.
Breakfast - smoothie or oatmeal
Lunch - falafel pita probably
Dinner - ginger broccoli stir fry (we had leftovers yesterday instead)
Activity - house cleaning day, some gardening and/or mowing if it clears up0 -
Carla, I keep saying someday I'm going to write a book about dog training. It is going to consist of one page. It will say "have infinite patience until they are 2 or 3 years old and then they will grow up and be great dogs"
I also firmly believe if they will come when called that's 90% of what you need. Nothing worse than a dog who runs off and defies you, and it's dangerous too, there might be a very good reason you want them to stop and come to you but they don't know that. So that's always my first concentration, is making sure they come when called. (To be honest, I failed with my current lab mix, he's 7 and still sometimes gets halfway back and then a leaf or a bug or something distracts him... I would never trust him off leash outside the yard!) Hope your mower showed up.
I put a couple Dr. F books for my kindle on hold with the library... End of Dieting and Super Immunity. I know a couple people said a lot of the books are sort of retreads of ETL, but I feel like I need some new mojo and inspiration, and I am going to read those when they are available. There will be at least some new information and ideas.
B - smoothie same as yesterday
L - BIG salad (50/50 mix, chickpeas, tomatoes, sunflower seeds, nooch, balsamic), a handful of pistachios, cantaloupe
D - wheat pita pocket with lettuce, onion, cucumber, tomato, and avocado mashed with lime and cilantro
0 -
I hope Ruby does grow out of these things over time, Mihani! 3 years is feeling like forever right now, but I suppose we may as well enjoy the puppy stage. I'm happy that she gets to run around free so much now. She knows what she's supposed to do when we call her, but she only comes when she feels like it pretty much...or when we start to walk too far from her. Luckily she likes to stick pretty close by.
Our mower still hasn't arrived. I called them today and they said that there was a 'miscommunication' and that it will be here this coming Wednesday instead. On the bright side, I'm getting in a lot of extra exercise with the push mower!
Nice food day yesterday, Mihani.
Yesterday I finally followed through with the Ginger Broccoli stir fry. I prepped the sauce, broccoli, and marinated the tofu early in the day while I still had some oomph. I even did a separate batch of everything at the same time so that we'd have a super easy meal tonight. (Thanks past Carla!)
Oh, guess what is ripening super early this year? Blackberries! We have so many along our fence line. They usually aren't ready until late August. Hard to say when the majority will be ripe, but we've already had a few handfuls. We're going to have a ton. I think I'm going to see how they are in my morning smoothie once we're inundated with them.
Today:
Breakfast: 1 egg, 1 slice grainy sprouted bread, hash browns in light oil
Lunch: leftover broccoli ginger stir fry
Dinner: more stir fry!
snack: pluot and peach crumble
0 -
That's good Ruby likes to stick close. I think only dogs tend to be a bit more focused on their person so you have that going for you. I've noticed the boy dog is a lot more tuned into me now that he is the only dog. It's a weird dynamic for, me, first time in my life I've had only one dog. The stir-fry sounds yummy!
Yesterday was good...
B - oatmeal with fresh blueberries
L - big salad same as the day before, watermelon
D - hummus quesadilla, more watermelon
S - yet more watermelon
I had a watermelon already cut up and working through it and then my boss stopped at a farm market and got me another one the size of Pluto. I don't know how I'm possibly going to get through all this watermelon lol.
Going to make the OSG detox salad today. I got the stuff a week ago and was worried my broccoli might not have made it, but it still looks good. Must have been super fresh when I bought it. I shouldn't let things sit though... I let too much food go to waste. And I have heard that nutrients get depleted from produce that sits around too long. Also going to make the French green lentil salad so I can have that on my lunch salads this week.
Today's plan...
B - avocado mashed on sprouted grain toast with sliced tomato and dijon
L - watermelon (of course) and the lentil salad on a bed of greens
D - not sure yet, but watermelon for dessert
0 -
LOL that's a lot of watermelon! It is nice to enjoy while it's around.
Ended up in town for lunch and I'm still full from that so I think I'm going to skip dinner. Will do better tomorrow!
Finally picked up a really good weed eater (weed trimmer?). The one we had was a cheap electric model for our tiny lot at the last place. Got in a good workout with that, though my right hand is trembling now whenever I try to do even the smallest of things, like turning a page in my book or even typing. Also did more push mowing. There's still a lot to do but the weather wasn't coopering this morning. Hopefully there's more time tomorrow.
I will have to try that detox salad at some point. It is a little too 'green' for me to contemplate where I'm at right now! I have some French green lentils in my cupboard too, so I should get around to trying that recipe as well. I left my broccoli sit in the fridge too long before using it in my stir fry but it still looked good. The fresher the better for sure but I'm just happy if I use it before it goes bad at this point.0 -
I hate those tremors in my hands/arms after using a weedeater.
I made the detox salad but didn't get around to the French green lentil salad. So my lunch salad was just chickpeas and veggies. The detox salad makes a lot so I'll have that for lunch for quite a few days. I ended up making a hummus quesadilla again for dinner. I am hooked on those, but with the daiya they are not strict ETL and I need to lay off them for a while.
Today's plan...
B - green smoothie
L - detox salad and watermelon
D - hopefully I'll make the lentil salad, but if not I'll just have a regular salad with black beans, avocado, tomato and salsa, and watermelon lol
Gotta go to the office today so must get moving.0 -
Hmmm... stress eating anyone? I ate some of the detox salad for lunch, and watermelon, and then fell into a bag of potato chips and didn't come up for air until I had eaten half the bag. Really must get a grip on that sort of thing! It doesn't happen often but when it does it really bugs me. I ask myself "why?" like there's an actual answer to the question and that once I know the answer it will never happen again lol.
I got home so late I don't think I'll bother with the lentil salad. I will just have a green salad. I'm not too hungry anyway being all full of chips.
Hope y'all are having a great weekend.

Good morning, and happy Monday!
I've been AWOL lately. Just busy being busy. The usual...
Today is day 1. All over again. My weight has crept back up, and I'm nearly back to where I started from. Again. Makes me so mad at myself.
I've made myself some juices for the next 3 days. I'm going to give myself another reboot. I certainly need it! I don't know how long I'll juice for this time; will just play it by ear.
I also started getting up early this morning too. Went outside with my Zombies, Run! app and walked 6km. Now I have a couple of blisters, but at least I got out there and I did it.
So now the big trick is to do it all over again tomorrow, and the next day and the next day and so on.....0 -
Karrie! Nice to see you
I have been doing the yo yo thing too, though for me it has been more going up than down. You can do it. Great time of year for juicing!
Mihani, saw your post and thought of this image someone posted on the facebook InstaPot G-BOMBS users group. Story of almost all of my days unfortunately.
Not a great food weekend, but once again good for activity at least. Went through 4 tanks of gas using the weed whacker yesterday. Cleared a huge bunch of brush and prickle bushes from around the barn, cleaned out the chicken coop and did some push mowing.
Harvested a bucket full of fresh and sweet blueberries from our yard this morning. Should be more ripe in the next few days if the weather is good. For some reason, the birds haven't discovered them!
0 -
That picture made me laugh. Sounds a lot like me (except for the chicken - not that!)
Good luck with the blueberries! Once they find them, you'll never fill another bucket...
I filled 2 big bowls of strawberries from my yard a couple of weeks ago, and then this past weekend I was looking forward to doing it again. Went out Sunday morning with a bowl, and there was not a single strawberry to be found (but I know I had seen them a couple of days earlier). I think it was the squirrels, though, not the birds... I caught one big, fat squirrel sauntering out of the strawberries a few days ago. He wasn't the least bit concerned that I was approaching - I think he was too full of my strawberries to run for it!!!0 -
Karrie! I’ve missed you, glad you are back. Sorry you lost your second batch of strawberries. How is everyone doing? Are you spending much time at your cabin this summer?
Carla… ugh… that seems about right some days lol. Except no chicken or bagel bites. I guess being full vegan does put the brakes on some things. It’s funny we have all kinds of stuff at the office all the time, my boss is a big junk food junkie (and really thin of course) but a lot of the things he buys have some non-vegan ingredient like milk, and I won’t touch them. I’m firm in that. I might not stay 100% ETL all the time, but I do stay 100% vegan. Over 3 years now. I don’t remember how many years I was lacto-ovo vegetarian before going vegan but it has been so long since I have eaten meat I literally don’t even think of it as food anymore. All your activity with the new house, you probably need some extra calories!
B – sprouted grain toast with peanut butter
L – detox salad and watermelon
S – pistachios
D – going to make a salad with lettuce, black beans, avocado, onion, red pepper, salsa… it is so hot out today I want cold and crisp
0 -
Haha I can totally picture a rotund and satisfied looking squirrel sauntering out of your strawberry patch, Karrie! Cute and funny, but not worth the loss of those delicious berries! I'm still hoping to get another few buckets filled so fingers crossed! Maybe with all of the berry farms around here the birds are just too full to bother. Did you start on your juicing? Are you doing a juice fast, or incorporating juices along with solid food?
That salad sounds really good Mihani. I think I might make one like that on the next hot day we have. We started with a hot Spring here but July so far has been cooler than normal. Being 100% vegan is a great way to put the brakes on! When Joe and I first started ETL we did that and it kept the junk food down even in binge mode. Lately, we've been consuming dairy products with near abandon. A frenzy. We have a dairy farm close by that has award winning ice cream. gah. No excuse. I just need to buckle down.
Looking forward to having a lot of blueberries in my breakfast today! Let me know if the images are bothersome to anyone. I figured out how to make them a lot smaller.
0 -
Carla, I'm full-on juice fast again. For now. We'll see how it goes.
Mihani, I've missed you too!!We've spent some time at the cabin, but not too much just yet; we actually have most of the month of August off, so we'll be hanging out there most of the month. Can't wait!
It was raining like crazy this morning, so I had to do my Zombies, Run! mission on the treadmill. I had a REALLY hard time waking up for that this morning. I am beat from yesterday!! But I did it. Like a good girl... Only 4 km today, though, because I had a later start. (I did 6km yesterday).
I reset my weight ticker this morning. Ugh. That's miserable to have to enter in a new (higher) weight than your last logged weigh-in...But I have nobody to blame but myself, and I'm here now to rectify it... Finally!
0 -
Busy day! Home late and had a little work to do when I got home. Still haven't had dinner.
B - watermelon
L - detox salad and watermelon
D - hummus wrap with tons of lettuce
S - more watermelon
I still have one large container of watermelon left lol. It's so good though, I don't mind.
Karrie, great job getting right back into it. You always do so great when you're focused on the goal!
Carla those blueberries look wonderful!

Day 3 is kicking my butt. I am not a nice person to be around this morning. I did NOT want to get out of bed. But I did it. And I did my 6km walk today. Even though I didn't want to.
But I was wicked crabby at my family this morning after everyone woke up. Glad to be at work, to be honest. Nobody's gonna be all up in my grill here... Or if they are, WATCH OUT!!
On the bright side, I've had 2 perfect days of juicing and I'm down 5.6 lbs! WOW! Also, my poor, lazy body has managed to walk 16km in the last 3 mornings. So there's that!0 -
Our ride-on mower should be arriving today, finally! Can't wait! We didn't mow the backyard this weekend so we'd have some lawn to play with. My new phone is also arriving today. I picked up a Nexus 6P which works with the Google Fi plan. Great plan with refunds for unused data and free calling to Canada where my family is. That makes it sound like I'm far away...the next street North of us is on the Canadian side of the border
Mihani, while you're swimming in watermelon, I'm swimming in blueberries! The bucket I picked the other day is from a bush that is in the yard. Yesterday, the blueberries we brought with us in pots were ready to harvest. Good thing we go through a lot of blueberries!
Karrie, a whole month at the cabin, how awesome! Is is close by to where you live? I'm still interested in the Zombies, Run! app but I'm going to wait until winter once I'm not getting my exercise from all of this yard work.
Is the Pokemon Go thing a craze where you guys are, too? Everyone is going nuts for it here. There are large groups of people swarming all around town and working cooperatively to capture the pokemons. It is getting people outside and walking all over the place so it seems like a good thing. I wonder how long it will last.
I'm going to try a new beans and rice recipe that I found online for my Instant Pot pressure cooker. Hopefully it tastes good because it seems pretty easy to throw together. Love my IP!
Breakfast - Blueberry smoothie with greens
Lunch - falafel pita with veggies and hummus
Dinner - beans and rice dish0 -
mmm.... blueberries!!! I'm so jealous!! My strawberries will take a couple of weeks to re-grow, then I'll have to beat the critters to them...
I just heard of the Pokemon Go thing for the first time yesterday. I think I'll start it with my son soon. Maybe tonight. He wants to exercise more, so this is perfect.
Our cabin is about 50 minutes from our house. It's waterfront, and I love it. No TV, no internet (well, my phone doesn't count), and nature all around. Meals by the water, boating, paddle boating, swimming, campfires... We love it!!0 -
LOLLLLLLLLLL
All the watermelon in your daily food is making me laugh so much, Mihani lol. At least it's not going to waste!! I love watermelon, but that is definitely a lot.
Yay, Karrie! How are you doing? I am in the same boat as you and actually just not logging my weight lol. Not sure if that's the answer, but I'm just focusing on quality food. It finally clicked (looking at old pictures... ugh) and now I am back on the wagon and pretty focused. Great job with the running though!! Woohoo
Carla, i LOVE the chicks!!! They are soo cute. Do they like being held?? (That is always my first question re: animals, lol, I love affectionate animals). Also, I really love the photos so keep them comingHow is Ruby? I agree with Mihani re 3 year old dogs. That seems to be the magic number. My sister's puppy is so cute, and I'm in love with her, but omg I can't wait til she turns 3 too. Also, I love hearing about all your fresh produce and fun things to do around your new property
Our place is doing well, nearly finished I think. It's mostly unpacked, but there seems to just be stuff everywhere, so this weekend I'm keen on just putting everything away. Our counters seem full of things that don't have their place yet.
Also, anyone tried Minimalist Baker? I've been really into some of her recipes lately. They're pretty quick and easy and tasty0 -
Karrie hope you are feeling better! I imagine it is sort of a detox grrrrr kind of thing when you first start juicing, did you get crabby before when you started juicing? That’s awesome you are logging so many miles. I have heard a lot about the pokemon thing, but I have heard several stories where people are using the app to lure others to places and then robbing them, so be careful! I also heard people are going to veterans memorials and places like that and it is disturbing others there to pay respects so they are encouraging people to be sensitive to where they are playing. A month at the cabin sounds heavenly!
Carla did your mower show up? I hope so! I have read about those Instant Pot contraptions and wanted to get one. I am so afraid of pressure cookers, but I imagine they are much safer now. I read a review on amazon that one of the new ones blew up on someone though, so my fear wasn’t abated lol. All those blueberries, yum!
Lia, glad to see you! Glad you are settling into your new home too. I love the Minimalist Baker website. I’ve tried several recipes and they have been great. My favorite tofu scramble is her Southwest Scramble. Your question to Carla made me think, my recollection is that chickens aren’t very cuddly. They are when they are young, but when they grow up they can be pretty snarky little birds sometimes.
B – watermelon (of course!)
L – detox salad and more watermelon
D – going to make a big ol’ salad with spring mix, dates, red onion, balsamic
0 -
I left work early yesterday and laid down for a bit in the afternoon. It was a rough day overall. But yes, I am feeling better today - thank goodness (so far anyway, the kids aren't up yet!!
)
I forced myself to go for a walk again today - didn't want to get out of bed again - but I did it. 5km. Zombies, Run! definitely makes it easier. I'm enjoying it a lot.
I found out that Pokemon Go isn't in Canada yet, so I guess my son and I will have to wait.

I can't see chickens being too cuddly...0
