There was this cute video that popped up in my facebook about a social experiment in New York where a booth advertised "Free Chicken" and lots of people were lined up, and they pulled out a live chicken. And everyone was petting it and noting that they hadn't spent time with a live chicken, how cute it was, etc. SO I was really hoping that that was the norm and that I would get to carry around chickens some day lmao.

I still don't understand this whole pokemon thing?!!??! How does it work? Is it like geocaching?!

Mihani you're right, duh, I remember you mentioning minimalist baker and their scramble before! It was probably you that got me to their website :)

Glad you are feeling better Karrie! I think it’s awesome you made yourself walk even though you didn’t want to. Sometimes I think that’s 90% of the battle. Just doing what you gotta do whether you want to or not. I usually find if I make myself work out that I end up feeling great about it, but I’ve been really bad about making myself do it anyway.

Lia, I think probably if chickens are friendly might be partly to do with whether they have a lot of attention and handling as they are growing up. Roosters can get territorial and aggressive sometimes though. Our hens weren’t particularly friendly but they weren’t mean like the rooster. He would go at people all spurs and pecking sometimes.

I’m thinking Carla is still out on her new mower lol.

    B – watermelon
L – detox salad (that was the last of the batch) and watermelon
D – pita pizza with loads of veggies and nooch instead of cheese
    S – lara bar

I think I have about one more day of watermelon, and then I will take a break from it!

Long day at the office, went out after work. Had fun, but a decidedly non-ETL evening. Going to the office tomorrow.

B - 1/2 an avocado mashed on sprouted grain toast
L - steamer bag of veggies with black pepper and nooch
D - 3 small spring rolls at the restaurant with some cabbage and stuff that came diced up on the side, a frou frou martini (my no kidding first ever martini! it was good!)

Also had a salad when I got home, the spring rolls weren't much of a dinner. I've always been afraid of martinis thinking they would be too strong for me. I'm a beer and wine drinker, or an occasional bloody mary or margarita. It was fine, but one was definitely enough.

    Good morning!

I didn't go for my walks or juice over the weekend; only because I didn't have an opportunity to do so. I ran out of groceries, and the kids and I spent the weekend gutting their rooms (we took everything except furniture out into the living room) and then we tossed a bunch of stuff, made a donation bag, and then set aside a few of the nicer things to sell. We even moved some furniture. Their rooms are now SO clean, and you can find everything - what a miracle! It was a HUGE job - especially my son's room - what a hoarder!

So while I didn't do my morning exercise, I barely sat down for 2 days. On Saturday night I was going to stay up and do some knitting, but I couldn't even keep my eyes open - I had to go to sleep shortly after the kids!!

But this morning I'm back at it. I went for my 6km walk, I'm back on the juice, we'll see how much weight I can drop this week...

Pokemon Go is available in Canada today, so our family is going to go out tonight and see how many we can "catch". I'll report in about it tomorrow...

Karrie, can't wait to hear how the pokemon thing went. Sounds fun! Congrats on the big project accomplished.

Worked some Saturday and all day Sunday. Visited a friend on my way home Sunday that was nice. I did fine usual smoothies for breakfast and salads for lunch this weekend. Dinners were mini-pizza. I found a good wheat crust that's vegan, hard to find pre-made crusts that are vegan. I loaded them up with lots of sauce and veggies and a small amount of daiya mozzarella style. Definitely not ETL though, back at it today.

B - smoothie (greens, frozen berries, water, chia seeds, a few drops of vanilla)
L - steamer bag of veggies with nooch and black pepper, an apple
D - finally got around to making the French green lentil salad, going to eat some on a bed of romaine for dinner, with cantaloupe for dessert

I was hoping to treadmill tonight but I have a couple hours of work to do and I've been doing laundry and working on the lentil salad since I walked in the door. It will probably be 8:00 before I even get up to my desk ugh. I will definitely be able to get to the treadmill tomorrow since the lentil salad will last me all week.

We had fun catching Pokémon last night; although it took us awhile to understand how to use the app. But now that we've got the hang of it, I think we'll have better luck tonight. (We only caught about 5 last night). My kids obviously enjoyed it, because they definitely want to go out every night after supper. And they want to see if we can find different Pokémon out at the lake, so they're planning ahead...

Mihani, how is the lentil salad? Yummy?

I had the worst sleep last night and didn't get up early this morning for my walk. Hubby decided he just had to stay up until midnight fiddling around with a new stereo receiver for our TV. He couldn't get it all working properly, and for whatever reason he felt the speakers had to be loud to test it properly (dummy). I finally had to get up and shut the door around 11 when I realized he wasn't stopping soon. Then his cell phone was ringing at 1am, and he had to run downstairs to get it. Then there was a torrential downpour at some point (maybe 3?) and it was so loud it woke up my DD, and she came into bed with us at that point for reassurance. What a night!! But at least I know we're going out to catch Pokémon, so I'll still get a walk in.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Sounds like a fun way to get exercise Karrie. The French green lentil salad is really good. It's simple and refreshing with the weather so hot. I like to wrap it in lettuce or have it on a bed of crisp lettuce. I had it on spring mix last night and it wasn't a good mixture to me. On romaine or a nice buttery type of lettuce (or just by itself) it is super. I double the dijon, garlic and red wine vinegar from the recipe. Hope you get some sleep tonight!

B - vega protein and greens in a shaker with water (I way overslept no time for blending up greens and stuff). First time I've tried that type of the vega and it was really good.
L - steamer bag of broccoli and cauliflower with nooch and pepper
    S - skinny pop popcorn
D - romaine topped with lentil salad, cantaloupe

I feel good. I'm drinking too much coffee though, and really going to concentrate on the water starting tomorrow. I want to get back to where I'm drinking at least 80 ounces a day.

OK. False start. I couldn't get back onto juicing after the weekend. partook in a few too many pretzels with hummus. (so tasty). Part of my issue is failing to plan (ie. plan to fail).

But today I've got all my juice prepared in advance. I did my 5km walk this morning (and caught a Pikachu - I'm so addicted to this game! What will become of my zombies?!?!?!) I'll do another 2km walk with my kids tonight. So that's good - it'll get us all moving!!

Mihani, where's the recipe from? You might have already said, but I missed it...

Phew! Finally done mowing! Mihani, that made me laugh! Actually, we may have gone overkill on the mower just a teensy bit...it is FAST and our actual lawn area isn't that huge compared to all the pasture around. I think we can mow the whole lawn in an hour now. Maybe once we get the hang of driving it we'll be able to crank up the speed even more. I have it at less than halfway right now. The levers instead of steering wheel will eventually work really well I think, but for now it isn't exactly intuitive!

Lia, the chicks aren't super cuddly, but they are getting more used to us for sure. A few of them got loose from their area because they are still small enough and were on the other side of the fence where the blackberry bushes are. When we went to shut their coop for the night their sisters were outside cheaping loudly and went running over to show us where they were. The sisters would run into the coop then run back to where the 'lost' ones were. It was kind of heartwarming, I felt like they knew to tell us about it and trusted we would rescue them. If you get real close to them they get uncomfortable and start to move away, but if you do need to catch them for some reason they seem to settle right down and can be held. Our realtor was saying that her brother has chickens and he was holding them and dancing around with them at a party they had.

Karrie, I have the app but only used it a few times. I think I caught 3 or 4 pokemon just around my yard. You should be able to get different pokemon at the cabin! There are water pokemon :) I bet you and the kids will have fun with that. Your cabin sounds perfect - a nice getaway that is still close enough that you can easily go there for weekends. Just laughed picturing you trying to outrun some zombies while catching a pokemon.

Today I'm making my lunch entirely out of what I have in the garden. I've got beets and beet greens, red leaf lettuce, an onion, tomatoes, and peas. I'm going to go back out for dessert and see if there are more blackberries that are ripe, if not, I have a bunch of blueberries still in the fridge from a few days ago. Not exactly a normal meal but certainly a healthy one! I'm already looking forward to next year when we can plant all of the things we like to eat. My husband wants to try his hand at mushroom farming, so I hope that works out because we tend to go through a lot.

Breakfast - smoothie (blueberries, coconut milk, spinach, flaxseeds)
    Lunch - garden buffet!
Dinner - veggie hot dog in a bun with Amy's chili
Dessert - blackberry buckle (have to stop making it!)

That bizarre combination of lunch ingredients ended up turning out pretty good! I had to add lemon, tamari, a few walnuts, and some balsamic vinegar, but other than that it was all from the garden! Fun!

Karrie here's the recipe: forksoverknives.com/recipes/french-green-lentil-salad/. My modifications... I threw some poultry seasoning mix in the pot with the lentils rather than 2 tsps of veggie broth. What is that about? I'm not opening a whole container of veggie broth for 2 tsps lol. Was going to use a veggie bouillon cube but I didn't have any on hand and I liked the way the spices seasoned the lentils. I often cook beans or rice in half water/half veggie broth so that would work too. I doubled the red wine vinegar, dijon and garlic in the dressing. I also used more like 3/4 cup parsley.

I'm with Carla... if you did zombies AND pokemon, it would be twice the challenge lol.

Carla omg Ruby is such a sweet little ball of fluff!!! She's growing fast. That's hilarious about the chickens trying to tell you help, over here over here! Your garden buffet looks delightful.

Another rough day at work. I feel like I'm spinning my wheels a lot. Nothing seems to go right lately and every time I think I have something done it blows up and it turns out not so done.

B - smoothie (water, spinach, berries, chia seeds, a few drops of vanilla)
L - Amy's pad thai (last one I had in the freezer, I'm done with them, I would rather make the OSG noodle bowl)
D - lentil salad wrapped in romaine leaves, cantaloupe
S - lara bar (last one of those too, not going to buy more they are too tempting and total calorie bombs), some skinny pop popcorn

I ordered an extra wide/extra long yoga mat and a book about the basic poses in yoga. I have a DVD but it's hard to watch the DVD when you're all turned around trying to do the moves. I think I am going to study the book and work on the poses for a while, then go back to the DVD. The yoga mat I have is pretty cheap and it moves around, and the ends curl up from being rolled. I hope the new one will work out better for me. Doing yoga really does help with the tension and stress that builds up all day at work so I'd like to get in the habit of doing it every single day even if it's only for 15 or 20 minutes.

Carla, omg I'm over here giggling and going "eeeeee" at my screen, first from your description of the chick siblings, and then at Ruby! Omg she's so beautiful, what a cutie. Is she cuddly? lol. Also, I'm beyond impressed with the fact that you are getting all that food out of your own back yard, that is so amazing!!

Good for you, Mihani, yoga and walking is basically my only exercise lately. My body feels like a pretzel and sometimes it's nice to just free flow yoga without direction, and do what my body really needs I guess. I hope it helps! The new mat sounds like it will be great :) I feel like "spinning my wheels" is the perfect descriptor for work as well, lol.

I have a mini getaway for a bachelorette this weekend; we have rented a cottage, there are 10 of us, and we are doing a lovely hike on Saturday followed by a wine tour. It is supposed to be super hot and humid, but I kind of like that, so I'm looking forward to it. That way I don't spend my weekend working either! woohoo :)

Mihani, I'm with you on the 2 tsps of broth...much like when a recipe calls for 1 Tbsp of tomato paste. Give me a break!! I bet you get much more flavor from the poultry seasoning anyway! I'm also starting up with yoga. I'm having some problems with my arms falling asleep during the night and I want to improve my circulation. I have a mat around here somewhere but post-move I'm not exactly sure where. For now, I've just been doing a few of the poses I remember from when I took a Bikram class. I was in fantastic shape when I did that...90 minutes of yoga 5 days a week. People that think yoga isn't a good workout haven't been in a class like that!

Lia, Ruby is a ball of energy! She is always trying to gnaw on us or anything around her. Yesterday was a bit of a rough day with her, she hopped up on my raised bed of lettuce and really made a mess of things. No fresh lettuce from my garden for lunch today! She's cuddly when she's sleepy - for a little while when she first gets up, and at night before we go to bed we get in some good snuggles. Your mini getaway sounds like fun! I'm glad that you like it super hot and humid. I'm more of a 20 C with a breeze kind of a gal!

Today I have a shipment of resin arriving that I've been waiting for. I don't have my art studio yet, nor have I even found my supplies, but I couldn't wait any longer! I've been wanting to try it for over a year now and we just didn't have any space for it at the old place.

    Breakfast - smoothie
Lunch - pita pocket with homemade hummus and veggies
Dinner - maybe a stir fry from the garden with some marinated tofu

Lia, glad to see you! You’ve been a busy girl moving and working and all that. We’ve got a lot of wheels spinning between us lol. Have fun this weekend! I’m with Carla though, I hate hot and humid. I need cool to warm and breezy.

Carla, I sometimes buy the tomato paste that comes in a tube. You just shoot out what you need for a recipe. My problem is I forget about it and when I need it again it’s way past the best by date. I am a total novice with yoga, but hoping I can slow down and just think okay I’m going to master this one pose, and work from that perspective.

B – vega protein and greens mixed with water
L – French green lentil salad and some pretzels
D – southwestern tofu scramble and a slice of sprouted grain toast
    S – skinny pop popcorn

OK, I gave up on the juice. I was going squirrelly after just a couple days this week... But I'm still getting up and doing my 5-6km walks (in the next couple of weeks I'll add some jogging, too). And I'm going to try doing more planning ahead and more prep work and see if I can get on track with one of my many, many meal plans.

I didn't know they sold tomato paste in a tube - that's brilliant!

I am still down 5 lbs of the 8 that I lost (of course, when you start eating again, you're not empty anymore, so you gain a couple). Trick is to keep losing...

    Happy Friday!

I'll have to look for tomato paste in a tube, Mihani. I have a number of recipes that it would be so useful for.

You are getting in some excellent walks, Karrie. Impressive! Are your kids still into hunting Pokemon in the evening?

Today and this weekend I'll be busy using the weed trimmer and push mower to get caught back up in the coop area and the pasture. We still have some really gnarly Burdock bushes to try to control. I'm also going to build some sort of gate for the garden to keep Ruby out so that I can save my poor vegetables!

Breakfast - coconut milk, blueberry and spinach smoothie
Lunch - pea pod, onion and garlic stir fry with a side of packaged lentil curry
Dinner - not sure! our grocery shopping is all off schedule since the move, need to plan things out for next week

We couldn't chase Pokémon the last 2 nights. Wednesday we were all exhausted and had a lazy movie night. And then last night my hubby had a soccer game, and my son wanted to watch, so my daughter and I hung out at home. I did some chores and then we watched some TV.

But tonight we're going out to the lake, and there are supposed to be different Pokémon in different locations (i.e. by the water), so we're hoping to find some new ones tonight!!

I decided to mostly stay out of the office this weekend. I'm beyond stressed. Brought some work home and going to work here. I will probably have to go in for just couple hours tomorrow though.

    Yesterday...
    B - leftover tofu scramble
L - lentil salad, some triscuits
    D - hummus quesadilla
    S - apple

Great job on the 5 pounds down Karrie!

Carla, you are sure getting a lot of exercise keeping up with the maintenance on the new house.

Oh, my yoga books came. I have started reading Yoga for Beginners. The second one seems far too advanced for me at this stage so it will collect dust for a bit. I'm looking forward to practicing at my own pace.

Yesterday and today were almost exactly the same...

B - sprouted grain toast with avocado and a slice of tomato
L - green salad with tomato and red onion, light balsamic vinaigrette
    D - hummus quesadilla

Snacks on Saturday were an apple and some cantaloupe. Snack today was watermelon.

Been getting lots of work done here at home. Will put in another hour or two tonight.

Also did the 8 daily poses from the beginner yoga book yesterday and today. Felt great!

Mihani, did getting away from the office help your stress levels? Sounds like you got some good work done, and good meals, too! Which beginner book did you get for yoga?

Hope you guys had fun at the lake and caught some water Pokemon, Karrie!

Today we built one of the two gates we need. The chickens being safe from Ruby are a higher priority than our veggies! We found an old door that we're using as a makeshift gate for the garden in the meantime. I mowed our main lawn using the ride-on mower and it was a lot of fun! Sounds strange I'm sure but it goes fast and turns on a dime. This week I'm going to order some seeds for our fall garden. I'm thinking spinach, bok choi, various lettuce, and some more beets. Any other suggestions for cool weather crops?

In the meantime, we filled another bucket with blueberries, and one with blackberries. We've also had our first few apples and Asian pears. So many on the trees! I'm thinking about getting a dehydrator and making sugar-free fruit roll-ups, and dehydrating some apple and pear slices. Does anyone know if you can dehydrate them with the skins still on?

Wow Carla you are doing SO well with the new place!!! I'm beyond impressed, I can't even tell you. I feel like it must encourage lots of healthiness, sounds great :) My sister is going a bit nuts because her pup is still chewing EVERYthing. She bought her a new bed, and turned her back for a few minutes, and she had ripped it all up.

Mihani, how was your weekend? Did you get a break? Great about the yoga, I do find even a short session helps! Reading about you guys and your yoga is inspiring. I'm going to do some tonight too. My hips have been crazy tight lately. I also really want to try a video tonight and get back into the feeling of regular exercise. I did a good hike this weekend and felt so out of breath. It was a bit embarrassing.

the weekend was great though! Lots of healthy meals, which was nice, but lots of booze, which was nice but not as healthy, lol. We pretty much melted without the AC. The hike was sticky but the beach was amazing, so we cooled off. I still enjoyed it!

My hubby made the braised kale & tofu with peanut sauce from the fuhrman book yesterday, along with a few other dishes. I like the kale one though! Surprisingly flavourful lol.

How was pokemon-ing, Karrie? Sounds fun! I have heard some extreme stories from people who are totally oblivious to surroundings when playing though lol. Great job with the morning walks too :)

Carla, I felt less stressed over the weekend, but when I went in this morning I found a big pile of stuff my boss had worked on and given to me lol. So the relief was very short lived. I didn't leave tonight until 6:30. Ugh. All your fresh berries, apples, pears sound soooo good! I'm not much of a gardener so I don't have any ideas for you, but I will be interested to hear what you come up with for your fall crops. I got Yoga for Beginners by Cory Martin. It got good ratings on amazon. I like it... not too overwhelming with the technical stuff and very easy to follow. She just has basic poses that I can handle just getting started. Oh, my mat showed up today too, yay! It is nice and big, but not very thick so I will probably put my old one under it. I have wood floors so I need some cushioning.

Lia sounds like a great weekend! It is hot here too. I feel like I'm wilting! I will have to try the kale & tofu recipe. Thanks for the tip. OMG my hips are so tight too. I'm realizing doing the yoga the past few days just how tense and tight everything in my body is, and it is nice to feel everything loosening up a bit.

B - vega protein and greens
    L - Amy's bean and rice burrito
D - nothing yet, not sure what I will have maybe just some watermelon. Got home so late.
S - too many pretzels, and a handful of almonds

Eating right really went out the window today. Tired and stressed. I gotta get a grip on that. I didn't go crazy or anything but I would have been better off going to subway and getting a big salad than eating a prefab burrito and then snacking on pretzels.

Lookin' good Scott! Glad to see you. :)

Another long day, had to run home then back out to get my hair done. I was months past due and it had got pretty long and scraggly. Now my roots are appropriately blonde and I look much more presentable. Much cooler too.

Another hit and miss day on diet...
B - vega protein and greens (this appears to be my go to breakfast now... easy and quick)
L - hummus and lots of lettuce and red pepper in a wheat tortilla
D - no time earlier, it's pretty late to be thinking about it now. probably just have some cantaloupe
    S - skinny pop, a few pretzels

Very handsome, Scott - nice to finally see you!!

Pokemon Go is on a bit of a break; the kids have been having sleepovers with their friends. But I did get my son to walk about 10k last week, easily. I was sneaky about it. We'd walk for about 1km, then I'd put a 2km egg in the incubator, and then I'd say - hey, why don't we keep walking until this egg hatches so we can see what's in there. Of course he'd agree, and then I'd turn our "short walk" into at least 3km!! (mwa ha ha - and that's how I'm going to take over the world one day....)

Lia, how brave to continue trying recipes from the Fuhrman book! haha! He knows what he is talking about nutrition-wise, but seriously, some most of those recipes aren't the most flavorful! I will keep the kale recipe in mind for when our kale is ready to harvest. Your weekend sounds great! Good times with the girls and a good balance of fun and healthy.

Hi, Scott! Nice to see you. With a face like that, why bother with Brad Pitt? :)

Mihani, I totally feel you on the hair thing. It feels so good to get it done, but it is something that I always end up putting off. I have streaks in the my hair that are half grown out now. Thankfully they are subtle, I know myself well enough to know I can't be trusted to maintain anything else! I'd be ecstatic to have a 'hit and miss' food day like you!

Karrie, I love all the walking you are getting in with your family. What a healthy way to hang out together.

I've been eating decent breakfasts and lunches and then things go downhill quickly in the evenings. I'm getting in exercise doing all the yard related things, but not enough to make up for the food! I'm pretty sure we're going to get a food dehydrator. It turns out the one I'm looking at is listed on the Dr. F. site, so that's a good sign!

Forgot to mention that Joe and I adopted a kitty cat. Her name is Reba and she's 10 years old. Her previous owner got too old to take care of her. The vet is going to do her dental work for free as part of the adoption which is great. She's affectionate but still a little wary around us.

Karrie, devious is acceptable when it’s for the greater good!

Carla, I agree about Dr. F’s cookbook. I usually wait for someone to tell me a recipe is good before I even try now. I made quite a few and some were “okay” but most were so blah and required a lot of tweaking. I can take recipes from other vegan cookbooks or websites, make them ETL friendly, and they are so good. Terri is good about trying new ones (speaking of… where are you Terri?), and I think she is a member of his website so she gets new ones a lot. I feel a bit guilty dissing the good doc's cookbook though lol. Your new kitty is beautiful! I love your pet names. Ruby and Reba seem like they were meant to be together.

Another crazy day, really late getting home, still waiting for laundry to dry and it’s 10:00 ugh.

B – vega protein and greens, took time to put it in the blender with water, more greens, and a small banana
L – subway veggie sub… they messed up and put cheese on it. I took a bite without checking, and I usually check. I realized right away and pulled the rest off, but it bothered me. I haven’t had a bite of cheese in over 4 years.
D – nothing yet, and it’s after 10:00. I think I will have a slice of sprouted grain toast with peanut butter and some cantaloupe. I'm a bit too wound up to go right to bed anyway.

Mihani, I feel bad about dissing Dr. F's cookbook too, but there are better recipes around that are ETL or close enough to make ETL friendly as you say. One day when I'm on the hunt for some new recipes I'll have to flip through his book again and see what I can tweak. I'd love to find a few that I enjoy and can recommend. I've been wondering about Terri, too. I looked back a bit because I thought I remembered her saying something about going away, but I couldn't find anything with a date range.

I spent a good chunk of time today doing some much needed house cleaning. I also went through a big box of shampoos, cosmetics, and the like, that I hadn't unpacked yet. I was pretty strict and threw out a decent amount of lotions and things that I hadn't used up. My housework might be my only activity for the day, other than watering the garden and maybe picking some berries tonight.

I ordered my seeds from Johnny's Seed company. I don't remember what all I got, but I know there were a few kinds of spinach, carrots, kale, turnips, lettuce and Brussels sprouts. I've never attempted growing anything directly from seeds before, so wish me luck! I'll post some photos as they progress, no matter how sad the results are (prepare to see some pictures of bare dirt!)

I was going to wish my fellow Canadians a happy long weekend, but then I realized it is B.C. day...not sure which day the other provinces get off. I don't get to take it off anyway now that I live in the U.S.

    Breakfast - skipped it
Lunch - smoothie with spinach, unsweetened coconut milk, blueberries and chia seeds
Dinner - probably pasta with a side salad and blackberry buckle for dessert (we're having company over)
