Congrats Fab Fives! We did amazing! Woo hoo!!
So, in looking for some good pictures to post, sometimes you have epic fails by google...'tied for gold' gave me lots of pictures like this that I had to share because it made me chuckle...
However, I have to say, the competition with Team 1 definitely felt like this...(remember this from Rio?)
It is an honor to share the gold with Team 1...
But it is a bigger honor to be on the team with all you amazing folks! You all ARE super human! And Fabulous!!!
I loved how we gelled as a team, and I think that is what made the Fab Fives so special...
Hope we can all do this again together in the spring. This challenge pushed me, but also being on a team with all of you working so hard pushed me to work harder than I had been (like 2-3x more minutes than prior to the challenge). Thanks for being the best team to be on! We all had our strengths, and we all contributed! We all succeeded together!

Anyone else feel like they could just sleep for a week after that race? I have to admit, I'm a bit exhausted after doubling (or more) my workout minutes each week for the past 8 weeks. Glad to have the break. (And very glad there will be another race in a couple months!!!) Also, nice they are leaving the threads open, so we can still stay in touch as a team.
But I am missing the challenges to give me something new and different to do each week.
So, I'm challenging myself this week:
1. 15 minutes of planks (to keep on track for my plank challenge, especially since I missed doing them last night due to a headache) and 150 more Sumo Squats, just because I need to keep doing squats for paddling.
2. At least 2 hours of housecleaning, which got back-burnered during this challenge since it was obvious they really didn't want us to include it in our race minutes (even though it's a valid calorie burning activity) and doing other race activities was a good excuse to avoid it...good thing I live alone because my house is a bit of a disaster right now.
3. Get back to at least 8 cups of water each day; been having trouble meeting this goal lately, and for me, getting plenty of water seems to help with my weight loss goals.
Anyone else have some personal goals/challenges they want to accomplish this week?4 -
@b3achy -- I too am exhausted! I'm glad that was a shorter race than the last one as I think I about burned myself out!!
So, my goals this week are to try and get back to normalcy again.- Food: I didn't start the week off very well with my food choices (well, at least not my snacking, my meals were okay), so trying to do better the rest of the week.
- Sleep: I also didn't get to bed as early as I should, so that is another goal the rest of the week to at least get 6 hours of sleep during the week and 7 hours on the weekend.
- Activity: I'm in another group challenge, so that is motivating me to continue to stay active with my cardio, strength, and flex. I did lose my 10K daily step streak yesterday, so working on a new streak today.
As you can see, yesterday was not a good day overall for me, but today is a new day and I'm determined to make it new and better start!
Congratulations again TEAM! It has been a pleasure and a blessing to be a co-captain to such a great group! You all motivated me to do more and you showed such determination and perseverance. When some were sick, on vacation, had other time commitments, then another teammate stepped up and put up more minutes. I'm looking forward to another race with you all!5 -
Just stopping in from team one to say - WOW, what a fun and competitive race we had. I loved it. Can't wait to meet up with you guys again the next time around! You guys are a great team and it was so impressive to see your numbers every week.5

WTG..TEAM
I enjoyed doing all the challenges and look forward to next time. You all have a wonderful holiday4 -
I am also exhausted! And to add to that, I've got my class Christmas concert tomorrow, my daughter's Thursday, my partner's staff party Friday and mine Saturday! So I'm in survival mode! My goal is to continue running this week!!4
-
This was such a great challenge! I didn't have the huge numbers like some of you - but it was more than I normally would have exercised. AND - my food was much more in check than normal too. I already feel myself slipping - yikes! Thanks to @MissionEnforcer and @hawkins410 and @rusgolden for all the encouragement and effort you put into this. MUCH appreciated!6
-
@rusgolden - great goals! Man, sleep is so important! Totally know what you mean about food too.
@Mrscanmore, sounds like you and @ajfuelling need to have an "I will survive" support group...you ladies are both exceptionally busy this week! I'm now exhausted just reading all you both have to do this week!
I know what you mean @biketheworld - I still haven't hit my water goal yet this week. And my protein numbers have been much lower.
Is it bad for me to admit that it's encouraging to me that everyone is exhausted, so it wasn't just me? I guess I'm thinking it's not good because it sounds like I'm having a "misery loves company" mindset Though really I'm thinking that it is good that we all pushed ourselves and 'left it all on the race course'. Guess that's the sign of a really good team...when everyone is tired, you know everyone did their best. Nothing more frustrating to be the only one exhausted because everyone else was slacking off. So, maybe it's more of a bonding thing and an acknowledgement that we're a great team because we all pushed ourselves, right?
Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day here (sunny, low 80sF, smooth waters), but I did absolutely nothing but faff off playing my online games. I really think I needed the break though (physically and mentally), as much as I wanted to be out and about and paddling. Frankly, I was just too tired to think...
It seems 8 weeks was about perfect for the timing of this race...just long enough so you could push yourself to gut it out until the end, but not so long that everyone fell by the wayside too early...though it seemed like many teams were starting to have folks get sick and having a harder time logging minutes near the end.
I'm finding my sweet spot with challenges is about 1 month for an individual accountability challenge - anything longer, and most people don't post (heck, most people don't post much past a week or so). And it seems to be about 6-8 weeks for team challenges. I'm also in other individual challenges, which keeps me going too now that this one is over, but there is something about being accountable to team mates that pushes me harder to do more than I'll do for myself.
Well, I got online to check the weather and hopefully head out to get a nice long paddle in today. Looks to be a little choppier than yesterday. Right now we've got dense fog which I think would be cool to paddle through, but right now the tide is also too low for me to hit the route I want to take. It's going to be a balancing act today, since the winds are supposed to pick up later (bad), but the tide would be higher (good). I'm sure whatever I do is going to be good...even a bad day on the water is a great day!3 -
I got 172 glorious minutes of exercise today and no where to log it...
It was a glorious 80F day today with smooth waters (later turned into light chop), light winds, and the fog lifted to give us a sunny day. My new board is about 4 minutes faster per mile than my old board. Did 5.3 miles in 105 minutes, which was 20 minutes faster than doing 5.25 miles on my old board a couple weeks ago. And on my old board, I took some breaks, whereas on the new board, I did it all in one session. My legs were wobbling by the end, but it was a good day. Got to try out my new paddle finally...didn't seem to help time-wise, but my shoulders are hurting less, and I think I was a bit less tired...so, there are some non-time benefits to the slightly lighter paddle. Even walked to the market up the street to get in a few more minutes/miles and because I wasn't completely exhausted (plus I desperately needed cat food as I had none for their dinner tonight).
Hit my water goal today, and got my planks done. Still ignoring the housework
Hope your Wednesday was glorious also!!4 -
This was a really interesting challenge. I had fun reading about different cultures and trying new exercises (still enjoy doing Rajio Taiso).
I'm still pushing my exercises, no use letting up now.
I have a bunch of Beach Body programs so I sent a friend the list of all the dvds, and every morning she sends me the schedule for the day. I'm doing a lunge challenge with her as well, so my days consist of lunges (up to 85 each leg today), yoga, one beach body workout during the work week and double workouts on the weekends, then she'll add in random exercises like 10 minutes of jump rope, or 5 minutes bo staff....
It's been a lot of fun removing having to come up with a plan. Once she sends me the schedule, it's so simple to just DO IT.3 -
Hi Fab 5! Hope everyone is well. I am so happy to be feeling better this week. That last week of the challenge was brutal because I felt pretty awful, but still wanted to get my challenges done. Although I got through the challenges, my minutes were pretty sad (compared to normal) so thanks to everyone who picked up my "slack" for the past week! So happy we still came out tied for the gold!
I agree that 8 weeks is a perfect time for challenges. One of the ones I'm in lasts until summer. We are on Week 11 and I've noticed we have just a handful of people who are posting regularly on the thread. Some people just updating the spreadsheet and not saying much and others just kind of fizzling out and opting out. Doing that one does keep me accountable, though, so I want to keep at it.
I think the holidays add to everyone's exhaustion and stress. I know I've been battling anxiety and a bit of the holiday blues doing too much as I always do. I'm doing a ton of holiday baking and my house is a wreck. Regardless of my intentions to lighten my load, I never seem to be able to accomplish that. I had a packed schedule this week with 2 holiday dinners and a family get together. However, the universe intervened and sent us 5+ inches of snow and then a cold snap, so pretty much everything has been cancelled or postponed. This is quite a weather event for us valley dwellers as we have some years where we don't get any snow at all. It is very beautiful to look out my window and see a winter wonderland, so I need to get my head on straight and just enjoy the experience. My dogs have mixed reviews of the white stuff. Sassy, my aussie, absolutely loves the snow - romp and play and run after her frisbee then dig it out of the snow. Millie, the beagle, acts like she's being tortured and only goes out long enough to potty then beats feet back to the house asap so she can snuggle back into her warm blankies. Silly girls!
I do have to drive to town today (about 5 miles) to get my package mailed for my son who lives in Jacksonville, FL. I'm sending him a bunch of goodies and a thermal shirt which he doesn't need at all. LOL He told me it's been in 80's, but maybe it will cool off enough for him to wear it in the evening. Wish we were together either here or there this year, but he's in our hearts
Hope everyone has a good day!

I popped over to the Team 1 thread to give them a belated congrats on the tie for gold and saw this post. The outcome was almost perfect.... now we need a grudge match after the holidays!
I know I'm not up for anything more before Christmas, but after the holidays I will definitely need a kick in the pants.
Thoughts? Ideas?4 -

Need. Now!
It's like I don't know what to do with myself. Tired, lazy & poor food choices. No bueño.

A grudge match? I'M IN !!!!2

Hi Guys! I miss this Challenge! But, I'm really glad for the break. I only have 1 challenge now and it feels downright easy in comparison to what I felt I needed to do for AR!
We finally hit the deep freeze this week like the rest of the country. 30 below zero with wind chill... a tad nippy (this was only at night though)! Gahhhhh... 80 degrees, B3achy?? It's hard to imagine in the midst of ice, snow, and chilly temps! *love that kitten pic..so cute...so funny! (esp. in reference to how you felt)
I love taking pets out in the snow! My two cats go for a 6 minute walk with me most days. When it was 0 (it wasn't windy yet), they walked up to the door to go out, shook their paws when they felt the cold, and then refused to go out. They actually ran away from the door... back into the warmth of the living room! Can't blame them. We have heated floors so the contrast of indoors to outdoors on their paws this time of year must be drastic...yikes!
I'm eating too much. There are cookies, cookies, cookies, and candy, candy, candy everywhere I go. I don't eat a lot of them at any one place, but they add up, you know! I made a big kale salad today to offset my cruddy eating; I ate almost half the bowl!!
I found snow tires FOR MY BIKE!! Who knew?? They have studs, too. Crazy! If I get them, I don't think I'll do my regular commute, but I'll do a loop near work which doesn't have a lot of traffic. It's fun to think about... we'll see if I opt to spend the $$$.
Keep checking in, Team! It's nice to hear from each and every one of you!
Oh, my goals this week?
Food: Log consistently and completely. (This past week, I either didn't start or didn't finish )
Sleep: Go to bed at a reasonable hour. (My natural tendency is to stay up late.) (note my edit time... >eye roll<.... I "planned" on lights out at 10:PM... lol)
Exercise: Exercise in the morning! (Since I'm not biking, I'm finding it hard to come home after work and slog myself onto a machine...)

I have also been eating a lot! So hard when there are so many treats! 3 more days of school and then a break!5

The rain is back! I love rain *cough**cough*! I LOVE rain! We're back to relatively normal winter weather - rainy and mid 40's. Hopefully that will stick around until after Christmas so my family can come visit. I have such respect for you all that deal with more severe winter weather every year. We only get it once in awhile. A balmy sunny day wouldn't be out of order either.
Truly, the snow was lovely but the ice was a literal pain. After 2 days of snow we had a layer of ice on top and then freezing fog on top of that. I had an appointment Friday so had to go to town and the drive was pretty treacherous (3 cars in the ditch on the 5 mile drive, but thankfully not me). Not to mention, after my appointment I fell down crossing the street and bruised my knee pretty bad. I DID NOT spill my pumpkin curry that I had just picked up, but the rice shot out into the middle of the intersection and ended up a little worse for wear. Embarrassing to be limping out into the street to get it while cars were waiting all around. After icing the knee (ironic) and some rest it is better, but I missed a couple days of exercise. No squats, lunges or anything with impact. I did some hot tub yoga yesterday and then went to aquasize class this morning. So far, so good!
I'm glad we're having a break from challenges. I did too many this past couple of months, so only having one (Game of Thrones) right now is a relief. In GoT we are also taking a bit of a break for two weeks so nice to have a breather. I'm all in for the next Amazing Race, but think I will pass on any others for awhile while I get other areas of my life in order.
If anyone wants to post an in-house challenge, feel free to jump in and suggest something! We can all be thinking on something else we can do to to "grudge match" Team 1 after the holidays, as well!
As an easy one, I will challenge you all AND MYSELF to log my food diary starting today and post that I completed it here, as well as my newsfeed. I have not done it at all the past two weeks.3 -

OK, I managed to complete Day 1 of logging for this week. I have decided to commit to 5 days (Mon-Fri) as Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be just too hard with all the snacking involved. Trying to be super good for the weekdays so I can indulge a little.
Also, did 30 minutes of yoga this morning!
How is everyone else doing?3 -
You had to retrieve your rice while cars were waiting?? No one helped you??? It's only embarrassing to those that didn't bound over to lend you hand... I'm glad you're okay.
I've been trying to log consistently and was doing pretty well until tonight when company came over with snacks, goodies, and more goodies. We played cards and talked and ate and ate and ate. Sigh. I have NO idea how much I consumed. The Wilbur Buds came out tonight, too. I'd do tricks for those things... Thanks for the motivation to try to stay with the logging. Yeah, Christmas and CE will be tough... but MAYBE I won't go back for thirds with this thread in mind??
I'm trying to do the suggested Challenge work from GoT Challenge... I did Day 1 tonight. Not bad... but (TMI), I burped my way all the through the exercises. No, I did not DO burpees... I just relived my many bad food choices for 8 minutes... lol
I've snuck in some bike rides after the roads cleared up. It's raining tonight so we may have ice in the morning. I'll be getting snow tires for my bike next week --- we'll see how well they work.
So, just to clarify: I'm in on the mini challenge of logging all day 5 times this week.3 -
I know several of us are in the GoT challenge, but for those who are not and looking for something to do, our very own Fab Five teammate @milesaway61 is part of the Small Council and posted this for us to do during our 2 week break...milesaway61 wrote: »Week 12
With the holidays fast approaching for many of you, the next 2 weeks are officially off weeks. Don't think that you can just sit back stuff yourself for those 2 weeks, although you can if you want to!
The Small Council recommends that you stay active over the holidays. As such, we have several challenges available for you to attempt.
1. Darebee's Fit Christmas: http://darebee.com/programs/fit-christmas.html Complete at least 5 days over the course of Week 12.
2. Fitness Blender's 5 Day Challenge for Busy People: https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos/day-1-fitness-blenders-free-5-day-workout-challenge-for-busy-people
3. Darebee's Christmas Advent Calendar: http://darebee.com/advent2016.html
4. Fitness Blender's 5 Day Challenge to Burn Fat and Build Muscle https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos/day-1-fitness-blenders-5-day-workout-challenge-to-burn-fat-and-build-lean-muscle
5. Fitness Blender's 5 Day Challenge - Strong and Lean https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos/fitness-blenders-5-day-challenge-strong-and-lean-day-1
6. Fitness Blender's 3 Day Flexibility Challenge: https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos/3-day-flexibility-challenge-day-1-fluid-full-body-stretches-for-flexibility-and-stress-relief
So far I have been doing good logging my food, though sometimes it has been difficult to gauge the amount. I'm sure I will go over my allotment on some days, but trying to at least keep it in my maintenance range.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!!3
