How's it goin team?!
My names Ashley and I'm your captain
Just a few things to go over with you -
1 - First and foremost, have fun with this challenge!! (Not that you need to be told )
2 - This challenge is very involved and requires devotion!! It is NOT like the other MFP challenges where you weigh in once/week. Your exercise minutes = miles toward our destination. I ask that those minutes are imputed at least every other day so we can keep up on our progress and see if we need to step it up or not. If you're having problems accessing the spreadsheet, either message me with your minutes or post on this thread and someone will input them for you.
3 - There will be activities each week. These really need to be completed to stay relevant in this race. Those points make a HUGE difference on the leaderboard. Majority of the activities have modifications if necessary. I can dang near promise you won't want to do all of them, and they won't all be easy, but just remember how proud and accomplished you'll feel at the end!
4 - I see the greatest success rate with people that stay involved in the team thread. Staying involved helps you bond with our team and gives you the urge to succeed together!!
NOW, on to the fun stuff Please add everyone on our team
I'd appreciate if everyone gave a brief introduction and listed 3 facts about yourselves just to get to know each other
My name is Ashley. I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I've been on MFP for 3 years now, we've had a few break ups but lately we're going strong I lost 30 pounds in 2014, gained it back between 2015 and 2016 and I'm recommitting to fitness and nutrition in 2017. I've been doing these challenges from the start, so this is my 5th(?) one I think. They've evolved tremendously and I truly love them!!
1 - My family consists of my hubby (as of September 2016) David, our little dude David III (we call him Davie, he's 6), 2 pups - Rottweiler/pit bull Bruiser and Akita/lab Diesel, and our kitty Missy who my husband rescued when she was just a few days old and I bottle fed and nursed to health (yes, she's my baby )
2 - I follow the Tone It Up nutrition plan. I've followed it lightly since the middle of last year, but recommitting myself this year I'm following much more closely and I love it. I meal prep [almost] every Sunday for anywhere from 2-4 hours, and while it's not easy, it's worth it.
3 - Our family is planning our newest addition this year That is my biggest motivation right now. My last pregnancy was super unhealthy with awful eating habits, so I'm excited about incorporating my healthy lifestyle into pregnancy later this year!
I'm so excited for another race, let's go team!!8 -
So glad to meet you captain. Looking forward to our adventure.5

My name is Mike. I am 55 years old
I had both my knees totally replaced in July and am going to get back in shape. I am from St. Albert Alberta and drive truck for a living. Going back to work February 1( been off work since June 16 with bad knees and surgery)9 -
Hi all!
I am excited to get this race started.
3 things about me..- My name is Lisa, I am married for 17 years & have 2 kids (12 & 15) We are in our slow season at work, and have been doing some travelling. We went on a cruise in December (without kids), snowmobiling & Skiing in January. We have a conference planned for February & a huge trip to Disney & a cruise in March. It should not interfere with the race, but I may need help adding my minutes when we are away.
- I recently started eating a Ketogenic diet (low carb, high fat, moderate protein) I have been stuck at the same weight for 10 years, losing & gaining the same 10lbs. I am hoping this is the key for me. I started 2 weeks ago, I have lost 13lbs (all of the weight I gained through December & January holidays) So far I feel better, like a cloud has lifted. I had been told that I have fibromyalgia during the summer, and high CRP levels. After 2 weeks on this diet, on my pain seems to be gone & I can't wait to see what my blood work shows after 6 months. It is worth it to stick to, because the withdrawal from carbs and sugar was not a fun process. I don't want to go through that again!
- I like to run, do yoga & lift heavy. I have been slacking since the end of the last race. I can't wait to restart tomorrow. My body has adjusted to the new diet & I am ready to go!

Hello Team Four!!!! This is my 2nd Amazing Race and I recognize some of our same team members from last time! Ashley is a great captain and she will lead us well. A little about me:
1) My name is Carina and I've been married for 10 years to my husband Cody. We have two sons, ages 9 and 4, who keep us super busy but are the sweetest boys ever. They're also giants for their size (considering I'm 6' and my hubby is 6'2", that's not a huge surprise). Here's hoping they're good at basketball or football or something and get scholarships!
2) I have struggled with weight for years, ultimately reaching nearly 440 lbs, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, you name it. With the support of all my friends and family, and at the recommendation of my medical team, I had weight loss surgery in 2011 and that gave me back my life. I have lost over 240 lbs and am finally able to live a much healthier lifestyle.
3) I am a runner! Which is as much a surprise to myself as anyone. I got into it early last year and absolutely love it (most of the time, anyway). I did my first half-marathon last fall and have my second coming up in March, plus three more throughout the year. I'm also planning to run my first (only) full marathon in August.
So glad to be here with all of you! Let's rock this challenge!7 -
@digger61 My mom had her knees replaced and never found the motivation to get back into shape afterwards, so I commend your motivation!
@lpeltenburg when are you going to Disney? I'll be going to Florida March 5-15 and visiting Disney, too
@carinamenina I'm getting very discouraged with my running lately, mainly because Chicago weather doesn't give me the option of running outside through the winter months and I swear to you I am the most awful treadmill on the face of this earth. My progress from last challenge is dang near gone I'm hoping the weather stays decent so I can get back to it.
1 -
A few other things - @carinamenina is my co-captain, if I'm ever not available she's here to help!!
Also, it's helpful to mark the star at the top of this discussion. Then you'll know when there's new posts5 -
Yay! So excited to start this race again. I was a part of the last race and loved it. Ashley is correct on the challenges. Some of them were so hard to complete and I hated them, but it was so great when I was able to claim the points for getting them done.
A few things about me
1. My name is Darci. I'm married and have two kids. My husband is currently waiting for a kidney and I help him with his dialysis 4 days a week. My son is 16 and involved in basketball and baseball. My daughter is 13 and loves gymnastics and track. I spend a lot of time picking up, dropping off, and cheering from the stands.
2. My husband got me a Fitbit in May and that was the motivation for me to start moving. I've managed to lose almost 50lbs since then. I was pretty lazy over the holidays, but didn't gain anything. Go me! Still have a lot to go though.
3. I live in Colorado and I hope this summer I feel fit enough to actually enjoy my beautiful state. When I started walking I was just walking in place in my house, then moved outside for a couple of blocks. I now walk 3 miles in the mornings or get some time in on the treadmill 5 days a week. I'm hoping to start going to the rec center soon to change up my routine.8 -
Hello everyone!! Looking forward to getting back into the race and hoping to jump start my weight loss.
1. I live in SouthWest Florida where I am lucky to be able to run and bike outdoors year-round, I feel your pain @SmashleyM914 as I cannot stand having to get on the treadmill.
2. I started MFP about 3 years ago and lost over 35 pounds, have gained about 10 back over the past year, and need to get back on track with my nutrition!!
3. I am going to be very light on activity this week as I am at my mother's celebrating her birthday and then gone for this weekend to a continuing ed course. Starting next week I hope to be able to add to our miles as I will be back into full-swing for my training for 1/2 ironman in April and then this September will be attempting to complete my first, and last, full ironman..... Didn't even think about these things 3 years ago
@carinamenina fantastic with the 1/2's and full coming up. Where is your race in March?
6 -
I am Lynn 50+ years old. Married for some time. No children at home and on pets. I live in SE Wisconsin. I do have a sit down job that takes up to much time in my life. I like to blog. We don't eat out much so I cook a lot. We are remodeling a farm house. I am writing a book on the side effect of healthy habits. This is my second challenge. I love walking but also belong to Planet fitness. I hate working out in the morning and almost dislike working out at night. I am kind of close to goal so i understand the last pounds. Welcome to all my teammates.
4 -
HI,
Monica here, i will give more info in the morning its bed time for me. Glad to meet you all and glad to see some familiar faces as well. Sleep well team !1 -
Hey team four! This is my first challenge and I'm really looking forward to it. Some fun facts about me:
1. My name is Danielle. I'm from Virginia. I actually live in an apartment above my family's pizza shop, so as you can imagine I don't always make the best eating choices! I'm currently pursuing a graduate degree in pharmacy, which makes it sometimes tricky for me to time manage. I love to cook, but only when I feel motivated to do so. I'm hoping to get into meal planning.
2. I have a really awesome boyfriend of four years but unfortunately he lives out in Colorado. We're going on year two of it being long distance, which hasn't always been easy. I've learned to appreciate the space though and really focus on my school work, and he's grinding it out and working his butt off. We have one rescued fur baby, a dachshund/cavalier mix named Cooper. We are definitely counting down the days to my graduation in 2019.
3. I've always been just on the edge of overweight since I was a kid, with my heaviest being around 160. I would really like to tone up and change my habits. I can be quite the homebody and stay in bed or sit around all day. Becoming more active and gaining energy are my biggest goals.6 -
Hi all!
1. I am Patti for those of you new to the race I am 56 years old. My husband and I will celebrate our 37th anniversary in March. We have 3 grown children, all married and with kids of their own. That is currently 8 grand kids and our youngest daughter and her husband are expecting our 9th one in July. We do have our dog, Lucy at home with us still but she is getting very old and cannot usually handle even a couple mile walk anymore. We live in Vancouver, WA in an old farmhouse that we are remodeling. We are in progress of adding a half bath upstairs which has turned into a HUGE project including redoing most of the one bedroom and almost half of the basement!
2. I follow the Trim Healthy Mama plan. I love it! It is the best of all eating plans rolled into one! I discovered it about 2 years ago. I struggled with about 20 extra pounds throughout my 40's. I was able to loose those on the abs diet but found it rather restrictive to live on forever. When I would falter I would put the weight back on and have to work harder to get it off. A little over two years ago now I was told I was hypoglycemic. I knew that I had low blood sugar but had no idea that meant that! I started researching my problem and figured out that I had to get off the sugar which I did and have not eaten it since. I have been fluctuating about 5 pounds for the last year. My doctor says my weight is fine so I am currently just trying to gain more muscle and tone. I am trying to pay more attention to my BMI number than my actual Weight number.
3. I have just started, again, Focus T25. I have found that when I am exercising (some say like a crazy person) it keeps my back from going out as often and I have less problems with the "old lady" issues like night sweats and hot flashes. I do enjoy yoga, although I'm not very good at it, I try to incorporate it at least once a week. My husband let me buy a Max trainer for my birthday last fall and I love it. I try to make use of it on the cold, wet days here in the Pacific NW.4 -
@carinamenina fantastic with the 1/2's and full coming up. Where is your race in March?
@Scherzie It's in The Woodlands, TX. I have a brother that lives in Houston and we're all doing it together to raise money for a charity Gonna be fun!
@SmashleyM914 Running here in northern UT is hard too! We've had a ton of snow this winter (well, lots more than last winter, anyway) so I've had to be creative with when and where I run. I broke down and did 8 miles on the dreadmill yesterday because I had to do my long run but it snowed all day2 -
THE WEEK ONE DESTINATION HAS BEEN POSTED!
THE SPREADSHEETS TO RECORD YOUR EXERCISE MINUTES WILL BE POSTED SEPARATELY IN ABOUT AN HOUR.
HERE'S TO A HAPPY AND HEALTHY RACE!
HOPE Y'ALL HAVE FUN!1 -
@darcijojo Awesome job on the progress! I think the rec centers a great idea, change is good!
@Scherzie Thanks for the heads up on low activity!!
@ddeliciosa Ugh pizza all day every day!! Haha which would definitely contribute to lack of energy I totally recommend meal prep!! It helps me make good decisions when temptations come around. I hope this challenge helps motivate you to get moving!
2 -
We've got 19 on our roster, 5000 miles to Harbin, China. About 265 miles per team mate. On the first week if you're here and reading this, go hard!! We never know what the turn out will be and how many 0's will be on the spreadsheet!
We have one teammate warning of limited activity this week. It's always good to let the team know so we can pick up the slack!!
Oh boy, mixed reviews last challenge on the Tai Chi. I remember personally loving it haha, some of you not so much. My son did them with me last time, hopefully he'll part take again!
Excited about the nutritional challenge, I'm doing a 7 day slim down this week which includes lots of orange eating so it'll be easy-peasy :
Let's work to get there by Friday to catch the New Years party!!5 -

@SmashleyM914 we will be going to Magic Kingdom on March 10, and Universal Studios March 9. I made reservations to Be our Guest for lunch. DH & kids have never been, so we want to get as much as possible from the experience, since we only have one day. We are driving to Orlando, which is also exciting. We are taking 3 days, so that we can enjoy the views. I can't wait1

@lpeltenburg I'm going to universal the 7th and Disney the 9th! We stay at a resort not far from Disney called Orange Lakes. We'll be there the 5th-12th and last time we went we just did too much so I'm hoping to get more relaxing/pool time in this time around. The 12th-15th we'll be hopping from Lakeland to Tampa and staying with & visiting family and friends2 -
Challenge #1
1- Marie
2- Favorite exercise - body pump class
3 - Markham, Ontario
4 - cold winters, and hot humid summers. I take my k da to Canadas wonderland a lot throughout the summer and we have the Toronto Zoo only ten minutes away from us so that can make a nice good long walk when I do the whole walk it is 10k.

Hello Everyone!! I've really enjoyed reading everyone's post. This is my first time on this challenge. I have heard so much about it and I am so excited to finally be able to experience it.
@SmashleyM914 and @carinamenina - Thanks so much for being our Captains! I am looking forward to helping our team each week as much as I can!
3 facts about me....
1. I am a stay at home mom. I am married to an amazing guy (16 years strong) who is very supportive. I have 3 boys ( JJBean (12y) Spooks (10y) and SJ (1 YR). I have 2 dogs (1 standard and 1 mini schnauzer.) I live in a town called Saint Louis in Alsace France.
2. Four years ago I lost a total of 75 lbs but when I lost my mom to ovarian cancer I ate through my grief and gained it all back and them some. Then I got pregnant with my youngest and gained even more!! Last January 2016 I decided to get back on it. I am down 65 lbs so far and still working to lose more. I follow what MFP tells me as far as calories in and I don't usually eat my workout calories back. I try to eat as healthy as possible but I don't deprive myself either. This has worked best for me after trying so many different things.
3. I am in the process of seeing several specialists so I can get weight loss surgery. Actually I have seen them all now and am just waiting for February 22nd to see my surgeon again. We will then set a date which I think may be sometime this spring.
CHALLENGE #1
1. Maricela (Mari)
2. I'm like going to the Gym. Its time away from my house and my kids. It's really all just about me.
3. I am from San Antonio Texas BUT I live in Saint Louis, France. I have been living here since '98.
4. I live in an Alsatian town called Saint Louis, France. It is a TRI-COUNTRY area so down one street we have Basel, Switzerland and down the other we have Weil-am-Rhein, Germany. At the moment it is very icy and cold. Not much snow but if we drive a couple of hours into the mountains we can find lots of it.
5. My Hounds!!!3 -

-
@hawkins410 thanks!
@mari_moulin I'm the same way about my gym time. I go at 5 am and my workout time is truly my only "me" time I get throughout the day. I cherish it :]2 -
Hooray, I've always wanted to go to China! Let's see, Challenge #1 for this week...
1. Name: Carina
2. Favorite way to exercise: Running, though I could do without the snow and slush. The only reason I've stuck with it during the winter is because I have a race in March I need to train for :P
3. Where am I from: I grew up in southern California, but I moved to northern Utah for college and stayed here. It's home now.
4. Description of where I live: A valley surrounded by mountains. There are probably five different ski resorts within 30 minutes of my house (shame I don't ski...), gorgeous canyons and other hiking opportunities (another reason I can't wait for the snow to melt), and it's just an overall beautiful area. Here's a picture I took on a run a week or so ago!
5 -
@mari_moulin and @SmashleyM914 I'm the same way about running. I like to just leave the house and go be alone with my thoughts for however long. It can be so peaceful and rejuvenating.2
-
The spreadsheets are now working! There two links in the top right hand corner for questions. Please use them to contact @hawkins410 about the challenges, and I can be reached through the "Spreadsheet and Technical Questions Link".1 -
I just entered the minutes from my run this morning (sorry it wasn't that long, I didn't get up early enough plus it was super slushy) and the 10 from challenge #1, so here we go! I also friend-requested all of you I'm not already friends with. I love being able to motivate each other outside of the group as well.1
-
Just entered my minutes from my Gym time this morning! Also my 10 points for the first challenge! Will start on challenge 2 and 3 tomorrow!2
