Love the idea of my new diet being "eat more"

Thanks Firefly I do actually have to have the surgery, but its only a 4 week recovery so that isn't too bad.0

Week 9 check in :
Fitbit TDEE: 2505
EM2WL Moderate TDEE: 2501
MFP Base: 2240 MFP TDEE (With exercise): 22477
Daily goal last week: 2550
Actual Calories eaten avg per day:2537
Starting Weight: 197.8
Last week 203.4
Today's weight 205.4 (Should be valid - may show monthly water weight gain). I do have inches around stomach and hips gained as well so it is for sure not muscle LOL
This weeks Calorie goal 2300 (10% cut) May just do TDEE again depending on how hungry I am. Will be having a lower TDEE over the next 4 weeks and I might want o live it up this week LOL.
My other (probably more important) goal is to not go over 2600 on Saturday or Sunday and to stay in my MFP calories allowed (base plus exercise) on Friday. I was able to do the Friday goal last week but still blew it on Sat and Sunday and had to cut the rest of the week to make up for it (not fun!). So I am hoping to be able to eat more every day and less on Sat and Sunday.
I will be having surgery next week, so I will go back up to TDEE then (which will be a lot lower and probably will mean going down, hopefully my body has adjusted enough to what it needs and I will not be starving all of the time until I get used to lower calories.

Don't forget that the healing process requires energy, Kelly. If you drop calories, don't drop too many - you may underestimate how useful that extra energy is for healing and the extra effort required for everyday movement because of the surgery...
Cheers

I would actually use the surgery time to take a TDEE break and just sit there while you recover. Your body will be under enough stress during the healing process and it doesnt need anything more to deal with. In 6-8 weeks of less movement will not cause you to instantly balloon up and gain millions of pounds. Use it as a time to heal and relax and just recover.
Good luck with surgery

Thank you Annette and Kelly!
My doc says recovery will only be about 4 weeks (its a robotic surgery so much faster recovery time). But I have to agree with both of you. I will keep my protein levels up for healing and just take a rest. I will be able to start taking walks after about a week, so by the time my 4 weeks is up my activity level should be close to what it is currently and then I can start the body weight and Martial Arts training back up. I won't be totally sedentary for weeks 3-4 in the the recovery though so that part is good! my goal will be to be at or above TDEE with 30% protein for those weeks.
I am not looking forward to the surgery, but it will fix a bunch of things that have been wrong for a while and getting worse. Looking forward to the end result, it will give me a boost in quality of life and ability to do some things working out I can't currently do.

I vote for TDEE after surgery too!
Good luck with the surgery! Let us know how you're feeling.

NSV 1 - I did it! I finally had a weekend where I didn't blow away my TDEE! Even though I had some special stuff going on I managed to stay at or under my TDEE on Sat and Sun.
That felt great
Some of it was being very busy and getting ready for surgery this week, but it was also not worrying so much about eating a full breakfast because I knew I would be eating later. The next goal will be to hit my protein macros on the weekend - since I tend to lose about 10% of my protein when I do fun stuff LOL.
I also lowered my calorie goal on MFP a little bit for some reason I always end up going over the number I have there so I found that at a lower number I tend to stuff myself less and make smarter choices.
NSV number 2 - since eating this way 40/30/30 at TDEE my fasting blood sugar dropped down to a completely normal level (was generally just under 100 and now it is generally in the 80's). It has been elevated for years - not to diabetic level but to pre-diabetic levels. I think my body likes being fed.

That is great that you have scientific proof, your resting blood sugar levels dropping, that this is good for you and you are nourishing your body.0

Turns out it's darn near impossible to get enough protein with hospital food. Ugh. Ended up stuck here for a few days. Mostly I didn't eat much but today back to eating and logging. It's rough finding edible protein on the menu. All the meats are nasty and over cooked. With any lunch I will go home today and get that protein levee back out of the basement.1
-
Glad it turned out well enough, though it sounds like bad surprise being stuck longer.
Pretty sure their meats aren't actually, I'm thinking some tofu or TVP mix with fat to hide the fact.

finally home - now the recovery begins, plenty of protein here now . I am resisting the urge to weight byself just yet until some of the swelling and fluid is gone. need to worry about healing not about my weight.1

Glad surgery went well. Take things slowly and just concentrate on healing:)

Thanks everyone - resting still not logging. I know I am not eating up to my protein macros - all everyone keeps bringing is carbs. Going to ask my husband to grill some chicken tomorrow.1

Surgery recovery going slowly. Finally off all the pain meds though which is good because they made me want to eat all the time. Back to a normal diet mostly, still way below normal activity, though I am getting in walking and stairs. Back to the doc on Wednesday to see what activity he will clear me for.
On the upside I got the guts to weight this morning and I was at 204 which is zero gain even with all the medication munchies. Estimated calories per day is 22-2500. I can't tell if my clothes are getting tighter or looser because I have to wear stretchy yoga pants due to the 5 healing holes in my abdomen that hurt bad with jeans or regular pants on.
trying to go back to logging today just to get an idea of what I am actually consuming and to double check my protein intake.0 -
Im glad the healing is going well.
Just remember, things are healing, so swelling and bloating from meds will take time to go away. just keep things light and take it easy:)

Sounds like things are going really well.
Glad you are taking this time to rest and heal.

So tomorrow marks 4 weeks since my surgery and I anticipate being allowed to return to mostly normal activities at my recheck. I am still not feeling back to full - stomach is still sore from the 5 holes, I am still tired and my stamina is low. First order of business is to get back to eating at TDEE, getting my protein back up and logging consistently. It should be easier as tomorrow will also be a return to full work for me (been on 4 hour days for the past week).
Next order of business is to get my workouts back to normal, I think that will take a little longer. Leaving for my big Ireland Anniversary trip on June 15th, I anticipate lots of walking and resting there, along with good protein consumption (have you seen what an Irish breakfast looks like!), so I should come back feeling back to myself.
Its gone by fast, the time off work was nice and needed, but may I say for the record surgery sucks LOL. However, it was needed and seems to have fixed things.0 -
Glad recovery is going well.
Love your plan! Yes, routine really helps with getting the protein back up (I find so anyway)
Great idea that you're not rushing yourself into anything. Those 4 weeks have gone by fast!

Not fast enough! I gained 5 lbs and not the good kind of gain. I am really looking froward to being active again.0

4 weeks since my surgery - got clearance to go back to karate and work full time (YAY to the first and BOO to the second hehe). Time to get myself back on track!

Hit my Protein goals for the first time in a while. Had to go re-figure my TDEE since MFP Thinks is around 2000. So I ate that yesterday and woke up starving in the middle of the night and again this morning. Turns out its supposed to be 2200 with my current level of light activity. YAY that extra 200 cals will seem like heaven LOL.
I think I have been far over my TDEE for the past 2 weeks at about 2600 cals a day though I was not logging.1 -
Yay! Well done on hitting the protein !
You'll hit your stride in no time.

# days until we head out on a vacation to Ireland for 2 weeks, not planning on tracking, just walking a lot, doing some Karate form practice and enjoying the local cuisine intuitively. I gained 6-7 lbs over the course of my surgery and recovery. The only clothing that is tight are my karate pants (everything else was a little big to start with - I was almost one size down LOL). I think the walking and getting away from American foods will go a long way toward getting rid of the surgery weight.
We are taking protein bars with us so I have some good snack foods. I will miss my protein yogurt breakfast, but I hear an Irish breakfast is protein heavy so I should be good! Breakfast is included for our entire stay.
I probably won't be checking in much until I get back. So I hope everyone has a wonderful June!
Kelly2 -
have fun - glad you got recovered enough to hopefully enjoy it totally.1

I'll wave to you over the Irish Sea!
Enjoy those full Irish breakfasts!
Have fun.

Recovered from surgery, back from vacation, 10 lbs up from the combination of those two things and I do not regret it at all Time to start a cut.
Since I am back to regular activity and workouts I will go with my last known TDEE of 2500 and start at a 10% cut (which I really, really do not want to do - so that must mean it is time!).
So goal: 2250 per day avg
30% protein
Tracking starts today.4 -
So glad you are recovered and hope you enjoyed your holiday!
Good luck with cut and macros I'm working hard on hitting that 30% protein right now and it makes such a difference!0
