    Ok what not to do. Woke up with a 163 then went down to 130. I snacked more than I should have and was 243 before dinner. Took my dose pet sliding scale and added 2 units to account for dinner, well that backfired and I dropped to 66 after dinner (scared my family). Current/before bed number is 134. I’m tired. :/:/:/;)

    @ConleighS ,

    wow, that's quite a drop--what insulin dosage did you actually take ? and what kind (Humalog/Novolog/Levemir/Lantus)?

    Are you a type-1 diabetic? (i.e. they are more sensitive to insulin than type-2 diabetics).

    I'm a type-2 diabetic and back in early 2017 when my BGs would get up to & over 250 mg/dl, I'd need 20-30 units of Humalog/Novolog to bring that back down to 100 mg/dl, so adding 2 additional units of insulin wouldn't have done much of anything for me.

    @BarneyRubbleMD, IKR!? Per sliding scale I was to take 6 units of Humolog. I took 8 because dinner was going to be Tri tip, potatoes ya gratin, potato salad, Caesar salad, holiday Cole slaw and tamales and Mexican chili. . Plus various sweets. I ended up full and didn’t eat what I thought I would.

    Right now they have me listed as T2 but I feel I am more T1.5 or full T1 because of my pancreas problems (gastric says I have probably 20% left. I am going to Endo tomorrow and going to ask to be retested. I take 12 units of levemir before bed and was 120 awakening

    Hmmpfh. I thought I would be lower. I was 121 before dinner, had 4oz pork tenderloin and romaine salad with a touch of dressing. Bedtime number 197.

    It really does seem like you might be type 1.5 or something, that seems unusual for a type 2 to get that high with basically no carbs!

    I just got blood results from Endo and they said I am not autoimmune or 1.5. I did have quite a bit of carbs earlier in the day and more diet soda than usual (only a couple glasses of water), could that have done it?

    @ConleighS ,

    Yes, it could...not the diet soda but the carbs earlier in the day...

    Back in January/February 2017, when I was very sensitive to carbs and ate more carbs than my pancreas could deal with at breakfast or lunch, my blood sugars would go up, typically to 200 or more and just stay there since my pancreas was out of insulin & I didn't inject enough meal-time insulin (Novolog) to assist my pancreas in dealing with the carb load that I ate. My blood sugar would stay that high for hours, like 12-24, only slowly coming back down to the 120's. It takes time for the pancreas to "re-stock" its insulin storage so it's ready to deal with the next carb load.

    I know for myself, if I have a binge and eat a lot of carbs, I'll deplete my pancreas of its insulin such that for the next 3 days I'll need to increase the amount of meal time insulin (Novolog) I'd normally need to inject for that same meal if I hadn't binged. That's why I now try to spread out my carbs throughout the day so as not to "overload" my pancreas (stressing it) during any one meal. It also helps to check blood sugar level at the beginning of each meal (at least) so one has an idea of what's driving those blood sugars higher & can make "adjustments" to the next meal before eating or in my case, adjusting my meal time insulin (Novolog) dosage.
