@Elise4270: Sometimes you just have to get stuff done when you've been putting it off - I get it! Good luck with finals and with your applications!

@shanaber: I am getting a little homesick hearing about your travels - I spent a lot of time in Santa Rosa when I was growing up, since it's the closest "Big City" to Calistoga it's where we went for fast food and socks and to hang out at the mall like teenagers used to do.

Food yesterday was good - day three of sticking to my meal plan and so far so good. I keep waiting for my brain to rebel but the weasels are keeping quiet for now. I'm still eating more or less the same as before, I've just limited my options and am keeping the snacking and drinking on a tight leash. I've actually been perfectly happy with fewer food options in the past so I don't find it too restrictive. It's sort of like the idea of wearing a uniform - sometimes it's nice not to have all those choices.

Breakfast: Coffee, apple sauce, string cheese
Elevensies: Two-egg western omelette (ham, bell pepper, cheddar, green onion from my garden AKA the water glasses on the front porch)
Lunch: Cherries, cheddar cubes, shredded chicken
    Snack: Pretzels, a pear
    Dinner: Grilled cheese, cherry tomatoes
    Dessert: Jelly beans

Okay people, this morning I googled western omelette to make sure I was remembering what’s in it properly, and one of the recipes mentioned adding thyme. I gave it a try and I think my omelette game just leveled up. Mmmmmmmm...3otzdj5sacrk.jpeg

I did a bit better today. I ate the last of that cheesecake yesterday and woke with another horrible headache. So, I just have to conclude it had something in it I shouldn’t have had. Maybe they are using soy and haven’t updated a label or something. We’ll see if I have one tomorrow, since I ate real food today.

I cooked a roast with tiny taters and onion, and from the garden found basil, tomatoes and green peppers. It’s pretty good. I “slept” in til 1044, so my mid-day snack was mozzarella more garden tomato and some jalapeño garlic stuffed green olives. Not sure where I am on the calories, but I’m happy that is real food today.

I haven’t cleaned or swam. I did clean the piece of cheesecake that missed the trash, under the sink from my freshly cleaned trash area that was met with a trivial response when i pointed out that it no longer smelt like a dead horses butt. Won’t say who was so careless.... uh dh. I’ve been imbedded in school work and a touch here and there with program application stuff. I even got sidetracked by a Netflix show on the holocaust remembering my 2.3% DNA and wondered if its a part of me that survived the nazis. The search efforts are futile. Oh well.

The snake charmer is usually a quiet fella. Unfortunately he’s smart enough to pick up on certain cues that lead to the opening of the door for the others. So...go on wild one. I just go check on him when I need a study break. I’m sure by now he’s wondering what “no snakes” means.

    Enjoy your food.

@MegaMooseEsq That omelet looks pretty good! You have it with salsa? Or steak in it? Mmmm!

I had to have fasting blood work today, so went to The Waffle House afterwards for breakfast. I had the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with hash browns (surprisingly only 625 calories). It was good. It was late when I had that, so only ate one other meal. I had baked chicken and baked cubed potatoes - lots of potatoes (629 calories). So, not too bad on the calorie side. I did also have a Gatorade after I did my run - ran FIVE MILES today. That's the most I've run in years! So, for the day, I'm still at a 624 calorie deficit. I'll take that.

Before we left on our trip I discovered we had these beauties on our tree. I had to take them with me and they are so delicious! I even got dh to try them!

Also found these tonight when we went out for a walk after dinner. They are growing wild all along the trail I have been running but most are not ripe yet. I picked a handful ate a few and Hobbes had a couple. Nothing better than berries off the vine warm from the sun.

I haven't logged at all on this trip... too much work to figure out what is what but other than the burger earlier this week I have eaten ok. Probably too many carbs but I don't think my calories have been way out of bounds.

Hope that smart baby cat is ok - I would be worrying about him but maybe the snakes have moved on to other areas??

No salsa for me - I'm very sensitive to hot peppers, so even mild salsa is too spicy. Everything you ate yesterday sounds delicious!

Went a little overboard on snacking last night, but I kept track of it and am giving intermittent fasting a shot this AM to balance it out a bit. Only two drinks, which is up from earlier in the week but not disastrous. I met with my therapist yesterday and we talked about how I'm trying to focus on making the best decisions for myself one day at a time rather than setting larger goals. I was reminded that I have been building up tools for myself, slowly but surely, including yoga, cooking, and (related) gardening. Focusing on avoiding food waste has been helping a lot too. I'm going to try growing radishes and lettuce and see how that goes. I bought a whole bunch of herbs yesterday and want to get them in the ground by the end of the weekend. I kept thinking it was too late in the year to plant, then I remembered not to let perfect be the enemy of the good. Worse case scenario, everything dies, I've gotten some good gardening time in and learned some lessons. I keep googling "how to grow [insert super easy to grow herb here]" and I need to just shut up and put some stuff in the ground.

Ya @shanaber, it seems the snake moved on. We had been overrun with frogs in the flower beds, no surprise something showed up for an easy buffet. We have a mystery plant in the flower bed. It has blackberries on it. Odd. I guess when it goes dormant I’ll try to move it out of the bed. Guess a bird pooped there.

@MegaMooseEsq I can’t remember where you are, but I agree, it. Not too late to plant. Okra is hearty and won’t stop til it practically freezes. I’ve been picking them small and having them with some cheese or olives and tomato. I think herbs will grow just fine since you just cut off of them anyway, not waiting for it to fruit.

I ate cheese, okra, tomato. Then realize I’d been studying for no less than 6 hours and went for a walk, in the heat. Dh said I looked hot. Duh. I’m in 64-70 degrees 24/7. I left him my ice as he was just heading to run (at the park). He thought he wouldn’t need it. It’s only 93. I have lost all acclimation to heat or physical movement. Walking was hard. So I came home and ate a spoon of almond butter and a handful of chocolate chips. Dh wanted me to make cookies, but we have no sugar.

Lots of thyme and chives, the others are sage, cilantro, and echinacea.

I haven't weighed myself yet but I know I've gained weight these past 5.5 weeks (no exercise and only attempting to eat less will do that!). My pants that used to be falling off actually fit. I'll probably step on the scale this weekend (or as soon as I can more evenly distribute weight). My ankle/foot are still pretty swollen too and Doc says I'll have swelling for a a few more weeks.

I'm making an honest attempt to start logging again. I need to log. I need to attempt to walk a bit more. I need to attempt some yoga and upper body/ab exercises. Today is my day!

We sure have missed you here! Glad to hear your making progress. I’ve been down 133 days now. The scale is up just 4 pounds, but if I gain anymore I’ll need new pants! I think I’ve probably lost at least 2 pounds in the muscle in my leg. So I’m probably up 6+ pounds. I’m sure you will recover from the gain in no time. Just think of it as recovery calories 😉

@RunsOnEspresso - as @elise4270 said - we sure have missed you! So glad you have the cast off and and are getting to the point of being able to walk and do more!! I am sure the pounds will come off as you start moving more - at least that is the story my trainer keeps telling me!

Food has been pretty crappy here - it is hot and DH doesn't want me to cook and it doesn't help that I haven't gone to the grocery store since we got back from our trip (I hate grocery shopping) so we have eaten out a lot (Panera, BJ's, etc.) and frozen stuff from Costco. Also DH is leaving tomorrow for a week in Vegas at another bowling tournament. I will likely get over to the store and get lots of veggies and make some chicken something in the IP to go with them.

What's on your plates for the rest of the week and over the weekend?

I had an avocado today and coffee with heavy cream. Mmm. I got the cream for dd and fettuccine Alfredo, but it’s so good. I am lactose intolerant, yet have cream every morning.

Final exam in T minus 57 minutes. Poor dd think she pooped a B. I can’t imagine that being the case. But we’ll see. She wants to go do anything that’s not school work. So, that may be dinner or something tomorrow. So, a long way of saying, no food plans later.

T-53... might as make a move. Wish me smarts.

Week two with my new meal tracker. It's kind of working, kind of not. Working in that I'm actually using it, not working in that I still did a lot of late-night snacking last week. I decided to stop waiting on my husband and suggested a plan for dinners next week. I was worried he'd be upset that I did it for him, but instead he just seemed pretty relieved.

I think I'm making some real progress on the drinking, but it's tough. I'm trying to focus on removing the really big triggers - having alcohol in the house and being around people who are drinking. We were supposed to be going out of town to visit friends this weekend, but I realized that I wanted to go more as an excuse to drink than to see people, so I've decided to stay home, make up the gym session I missed yesterday, do some yoga and gardening and running - the weather is supposed to break a little bit on Saturday. We'll see.

Sorry my posts have been a little off-topic - I've been lurking on a couple of the drinking threads around here but I'm not really up to a whole new bunch of people. Besides, drinking has definitely been interfering with my ability to be nutritionally accountable to myself!

ETA: I haven't taken your advice to check out a meeting, @Elise4270, but I have been talking to my therapist and made an appointment with my doctor today for a med check. One day at a time.

@MegaMooseEsq I've been using Dry Days to track my alcohol intake. I'm trying to cut down because its a lot of empty calories. It asks me every morning how I did the day before. I tried to post a screenshot but it's not working.

@MegaMooseEsq - it's all about taking those tiny positive steps! I think it is huge that you recognize your triggers and identified why you really wanted to go this weekend and made an alternative plan.
Thinking great thoughts for your exam @elise4270! Although it is probably over by now. I hope your dd understands there is nothing wrong with a B other than that she had the potential to get the A. Also my dh is lactose intolerant and still manages to eat ice cream. I don't see that it bothers him much anymore but he did stop drinking milk many years ago.

    @RunsOnEspresso - yay for 1 crutch!!

I had oatmeal for breakfast as I ran out the door to go with neighbor friend to her doctor appointment. Lunch I think will be leftovers from BJs and dinner a salad with added chicken. I like it when I don't have to think about anyone's tastes other than my own when planning dinner!
@MegaMooseEsq - maybe your husband just gets tired of always trying to plan dinners. I know I do. My dh won't participate in a meal brainstorm, just says what ever. But maybe you could do the plan together so neither feels pressured to do it?

Oddly, I can have some ice cream. Milk is or should be off limits entirely.

Exam is over. Thank heavens. Now, starting tomorrow, I can play catch up on everything else. Dd is talking about Mexican food, I'm so down to chow down.

    Now, perhaps a nap.

@MegaMooseEsq Meal tracking can be important for me, if nothing else than to see where I am eating empty calories that should be easy to remove from my diet. So, tracking is an important first step, even if you aren't under your calorie goal. I agree with @shanaber that it is huge that you have identified your triggers for drinking and made the decision to stay home this weekend. I will confess here that up until about 3 months ago, I too drank a little too much most nights. I just have to not buy anything. If it is here, I will have a drink or two or three before going to bed. So, I do understand your struggles. It is hard. Some days I really want something, but am proud of myself when I come home empty handed.

@RunsOnEspresso I missed what happened to you, but am glad that you have graduated to one crutch and hope for continued healing.

@Elise4270 Glad your exam is over! Hope you did well.

I am planning to run my virtual 10K in the morning, so am thinking about using that as an excuse to eat pasta tonight. I have my annual doctor's appointment this morning. I am hoping to discuss the possibility of getting off of my high blood pressure medicine. We'll see.

@quilteryoyo I broke my leg hiking on our first real day of vacation.

And I'm back to two crutches today but swelling seems to be going done still!

I’m so tired. I can’t sleep. I just lay there later and later each night until I fall asleep. I’m sure I didn’t fall asleep until past 3am. Then I slept til 11 when I heard Poo Bear knocking at the door to be let in from outside. He and another flip the stripping they pulled loose from the exterior door, it is effectively our cat knocker.

I rushed through an app last night. I guess I rushed. When I recieved a pfd copy of it in email, a radio button was marked incorrectly and it dropped caps in certain places. And yes, I wrote “an” when it should have been “and”. Me or autocorrect? So monkey farts, guess I’ll email the coordinator and ask if I need to resubmit it. My point is I can’t remember jack. I think my brain is full. I’m hoping it’s just everything that I’m juggling and once I get organized, I’ll be back to sleeping normal hours. Any advice welcome. I can take some progesterone, or bentyl and magnesium for a day or two. I might just gotta.

Food. Ugh. I ate so much yesterday. Dd and I each had one very strong margarita, with that and the Mexican food salt, I still feel dehydrated. I may force a walk today, perhaps my body isn’t in sync with my brain. My food plans today; fast until hungry and then do better. And don’t do any more school applications until your brain gets right side up.

@RunsOnEspresso Which bone did you break? I has the femur bone cut and corrected back March and I'm still gimpy. I start pt Monday, and half expect to be told to use one crutch until my gait improves.

Did you have a Halo? Or pins or any hardware? Ugh, I feel for you. I bet that experience was eough.

I ate a BBQ sandwich today and walked with DD. We had a good day. No homework or studying involved.

@Elise4270 I broke my fibula near the ankle. Clean break. Only had a cast for 5 weeks. All healed. Doc says looks good and I don't need PT or anything.

Skipped food all day and cooked. I even cleaned a good bit.

I put chicken thighs in the IP, rice in the rice cooker, walked, ran errands with DH then came home to sauteed his garden zucchini in Indian spices and added coconut milk/cream and it was dern good.

Then I had some surprisingly sweet strawberries for a dessert snack.

I got on the scale yesterday. Apparently, I lost weight over the past 6 weeks. I'm honestly surprised. I think I might have been bloated and maybe that's why my pants were tight? I think I might have had my period (I don't get actual periods - nexplanon) because I was overly emotional.

Well, two weeks of meal tracking down, and while I haven't necessarily lost weight, I haven't gained either, and I'm going to take that as a win. Since I started tracking on July 8th, I've had 7 days where my 15-day average was negative, and two days where my 30-day average was negative. That's the first time I've seen negative numbers in the 30-day average since the beginning of June, so I'm going to take that as a win.

On the mental health side of things, I saw my doctor on Friday - she was able to fit me in last minute - and she upped the dose of one of my anti-depressants to try and help pull me out of this slope I've apparently been sliding down. I'll see her again in a month, and in the meantime am seeing my therapist this week. And tangentially related, as I posted on the main thread, we adopted a third cat! That's definitely good for my mental health. I'm also trying to get back on the yoga train by challenging myself to do two short videos every day this week.

If anyone's interested, below are the bullet journal trackers I put together for last week and this week. We only ate out twice last week, which is pretty good for us. I did drink this weekend, but not as much as I might have if I'd gone out of town, and I'm reasonably happy with my decisions. This week I've planned out dinners, including one day for each of us to cook. The plan is to eat in tonight through Thursday, two cold meals and two hot, and then try a new restaurant on Friday as a treat for sticking to plan, play it by ear on Saturday, and scrounge or eat leftovers on Sunday. We will see how it goes!
