Forgot to log in yesterday. Lots of drama with my dad. It makes things interesting to say the least. So adding 11 miles for Aug. 7. of which 5 walking miles and 6 cycling miles
TTD: 86 miles.
I will add todays later as I am going out to do some other activities.
@vhuber: So glad you got the Protalis orthotics. I won't lie. I have long days where I feel some soreness but it is not painful like before. When I first got mine, I felt about 75% to 80% improvement and each day got better. I think it was just getting that arch realigned. Today, I ran 5.5 miles in them and I did not need to come home and ice my heel and do rolling. Remember that they stand behind them and will take them back if they don't work. The success rate has been remarkable for many people. I know I sound like I work for them but I had given up on running again. I am going to go for my 1 k this fall, skip the 10 miler and train all winter for my half marathon in the spring. My issue is more of my surgerically altered knee. I think the gym and band workouts will help it. Keep me posted.1 -
Aug: 160 m running, purposeful walking, cycling
7th: 5.75 miles purposeful walking - MTD 36. 43
8th: 6.6 miles, 2.6m running, 4m purposeful walking - MTD 43.03
Tonight I carried out an experiment in managing my heart rate when I run. Normally it spikes to about 195 during the first 5 minutes of running, then plateaus at about 145 at 5k effort.
I managed my initial pace, based on HR - increasing at a deliberately managed (warm-up) pace and had NO spike. A source of great joy - in the past I've been hospitalised (ambulance, flashing lights, sirens) due to SVT episodes, with a heart rate so fast that the ED struggled to track it!
I'm feeling really pleased with myself.
@vhuber - YaY. My thoughts are with you as you try out the new orthotic. Hopefully this will be part of the answer you are looking for, for pain free feet.
@clepant - here's hoping you have a more mundane/boring day tomorrow....2 -

Muscles have a rich blood supply and heal quickly. Same with bones. You can sprain an ankle and it will take longer to heal completely than breaking your ankle. The swelling will go down quicker and the long term problems are less but a bad sprain can take up to nine months to heal completely. That's part of why a plantar fascia injury takes so long to heal. No direct blood supply.
You know Dean, you gave a way better explanation of this than my doctor. I got the old 'it will hurt for awhile but you will be fine'. You are such a super person, thanks for explaining this, I appreciate it.

Adding 7 miles for 17 out of 300. Still pretty smoky but it's getting better.1 -

@CLEPANT - Sorry things aren't going very smoothly with your father. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.
@K80FLEC - Great job keeping the HR down! That should help keep things a little more enjoyable! I struggle with that as well. Mine doesn't go quite that high, but it goes to within 10 or so of my Max and then continues to creep closer even if I'm running "easy".
Hope you all have a great day!

@kar328 - as ever, I am in awe of your early starts - I'll bet you're wide awake and energised after such an early Bootcamp.
Yes, you definitely are. I chuckle when I leave, because if I was scheduled to work instead, my shift would still be going for another fifteen minutes. It is a good way to start the day and get a jump on things. It only works if I put my clothes in the bathroom the night before and even put the water in the coffee mug. Can't think about it, just gotta move.

WoW, 9 day of dawn bike rides. Even though the valley fills with smoke, I am done before that gets bad. Something to be said about pre sunrise rides.
08/08 - 23.0 miles cycling (0645 departure, by 0745 B.C/Oregon fire smoke made an unwelcome return, air quality: crappy)
08/09 - 23.0 miles cycling (0600 departure, by 0745 fire smoke worse than ever, air quality: crappy again)
Total: 187.0 miles

Got my neighbor friend to walk 4.5 with me this morning. She slows me down some but having her with me is worth it! Picked my oldest grandson up after my husband & I gave blood to the American Red Cross. It was almost dark but we went for a 2.5 mile bike ride. Must say the knee I had surgery on felt really good!

@kar328 - That made me laugh!
@Dave - I managed it again last night!! It seems my secret is ...... starting very slowly for the first five minutes, 12m mile works for me for that first bit!! ETA - I love your image!!
Aug: 160 m running, purposeful walking, cycling
9th: 7.75 miles, 2.89m, 4.86m purposeful walking - MTD 50.78
Very disappointed with my Inter-Club race last night. I only managed 2.89m out of 4.7m on a very hilly course. It consisted of running up a hil, then down the other side. Then up a hill, and down the other side - this is where I stopped, then up a hill ..... you get my drift. There was very little flat for relief. My knees hurt a lot!!
.... the elevation of the route. As you can see there was very little respite.
This post may have the above sentence repeated a number of time - my bad!

Added another 8 miles since Monday morning for an August total of 28 miles. Hey, I might be in the green.....for today anyway. It looks like I will survive at work too. I'm still busy and overwhelmed but I'm starting to find the joy again. That is a HUGE step forward. I was even able to laugh when one of my bosses accidentally sent me the information on a big project I am not on followed by an apology for scaring me. Sure I can add that to my plate, but first you need to give me a bigger plate.
@clepant I hope the drama with your dad wasn't too bad. I know it can be hard to work through our parent's issues as they get older and need more and more of our help.1 -

@K80FLEC - Glad you enjoyed the picture!
I was going to go with a silly pic for today but then I ran across this one and it spoke to me. I'll spare you the details of what it said.
