So although I was dumb on Sunday and didn't think that hiking half way up and then round a little mountain wouldn't be a problem, and then was very worried when my legs hurt the next couple of days, physio said on Tuesday (after bawling me out a bit) that I had only irritated my IT bands a bit and she managed to sort them out pretty well. Permission was given for me to 'trot' a little today and if everything feels ok to pick it up a little as of the weekend and, unless anything hurts or feels very tight, I'm to see her again on the 30th.
Have made myself commit to starting from scratch again, the idea being to redo C25k then move onto Higdon's 8k plan while also starting decent strength training again. I have promised not to do any races over 10km until autumn (not that I race races anyway lol) and hope that the fact I'm not training for anything specific I will build up a stronger base than before very gradually. Fingers crossed.
Went out to do the first run of week 2 of the C25k this morning. Has anyone else done something similar and found themselves swearing at the woman with the annoying voice when she orders you to start walking after running for 90 seconds, cause you really wanna keep going? No? Just me?
Now off to stretch stretch stretch stretch and investigate IT foam rolling....

I had an old running injury start aggravating me again last night. Thankfully it's not one which will stop me from running. Last May while running in a 50K (same one I posted about in the main thread) I tripped about 25 miles in. I smashed my right index finger into a rock and fully expected to see it cocked at 90° when I looked at it, but it wasn't. Just hurt like hell. It took several months for it not to hurt again. I think I may have fractured the knuckle closest to the fingertip, but I never went in to be sure.

Last night I noticed it hurting again, and there's a hard lump on the edge, as if the bone regrew over the possible break. It's also slightly swollen and I can't bend it all the way.

Oh that’s horrible! Least you can run without your hand! It seem to be the same way with me, but it all keeps me from running. I suppose you could have it x-rayed as a side to your next pcp visit. Mine always loves the “oh while I’m here....” stuff. Hahaha! Maybe it’s become arthritic? Steroid shot? There maybe hope for it. Hope it settles down and is an easy fix.

@shanaber Oh no! Hopefully this is the last break from running you'll need to take :(.

Starting to think my ankle won't really be 100% until I've dropped significant weight due to the high impact. Bah.

I went out and bought a flotation belt for water running and DH has agreed to heat the pool so I am figuring Monday I will start working out in the pool several times a week. I also found some workouts online that I am excited to try. Hope I can get into see the PT early next week and get started on that part of my recovery.

@shanaber did you try it yet? Or is it still yuck o'clocl early for you? Time zones get me confused lol.
@sarahthes is the ankle any better on a treadmill? Lower impact? Have you been given any specific exercises for it other than calf raises? I ask because my daughter has really weak ankles, she's forever twisting them, and I'm trying to find something I can get her to do that she doesn't feel stupid doing (**sigh** teenagers) to strengthen then a bit and make them less jelly-like...

I did some lower body strength work today for the first time since my legs went on strike. Let's just say it will be interesting to see whether I'm capable of doing my little run tomorrow, quads and glutes are calling me some nasty names at this point...

Just a drop in post, sprained my little toe on my left foot testing some shoes on the treadmill at the running store(it was raining out). Not a run ender but do have to remember to buddy tape with toe #4 for a bit. :p

@eleanorhawkins - sorry I didn't't have a chance to check in here this morning. No swim today and maybe not this week. DH had me trim our tangerine tree that had branches overhanging the pool heater and then when he tried to turn it on - nada. Could be the terrible winds we are having or could be it just doesn't work since we haven't used it in so long. He is calling the pool service to have them come and take a look at it so hopefully they can get it going quickly. To be honest with the winds I am not sure I would have even tried it today even if it had been ready. When I was trimming the tree it was raining tangerines onto my head - I guess that is one way to get them picked :)

I called the PT office this afternoon since I had not heard anything. I have an appointment in a week. Wish it were sooner but at least it isn't a month from now!

Well. As i suspected. I'm still in this battle.

Good news is that my running life should get better, at some point.
Bad news its gonna take sometime to get back to beast training. And dh is gonna *kitten*. And i was just getting some cardiovascular endurance back...

I'm waiting on a call from a Dr Jones's office for my 3rd surgery. *Phhhhht* femoral derotation osteotomy .

    @elise4270 - oh no! but you had thought there might be another surgery right? or am I just making that up that you mentioned it before? {{{HUGS}}}
How long for recovery on this one? Tell them you have to be recovered in time to train for Hawaii later this year or early 2020!

Dang it, @Elise4270 I hate hearing that! When is this next one? Recovery time? Can you keep running up until the surgery?

My doc loves Hawaii. He does Maui. We chatted a bit about it. I suspected he knew what he was doing all alongwith my treatment. The I'm "a mess" comment really shows he was always several steps ahead of me.

I dont know the recovery time other than what Dr. Google says (a year). I expect ill have a chat when this Dr Jones office calls. I can always do the 5k. Or watch y'all suffer.😉

I sure can. I'm anxious to be "fixed" so I'm going to focus on that. I have 3 night classes and that violin to learn. My baby cat will love me being home with her again.

I got the impression that I'm waiting for the jones office to call and schedule it. I suppose it could be rather quick depending on their surgery schedule.

I'm back to running 3x per week for the most part and some exciting training news coming up soon. I've been mostly pain free for a few weeks now (with the exception being today as I think I aggravated it during a HIIT workout). I have to be pretty cautious with my leg position when doing cross training, but I've run up to 9 miles with no irritation. It's a process...

@elise4270 - how did Eric take the news? Did you hear back from the doctor?

It took some explaining. Luckily I'd done my research and understood the procedure and exactly whats being corrected. We're good there.

I haven't heard back yet. So there is this lingering fear that Jones will pass. After sitting all day everything is rather grumpy, which only adds to the anxiety of waiting.

I guess as long as everything is grumpy I'll try to stick to the 2 mile runs. Unfortunately I my knee is becoming more and more cranky, even with walking. So i may rethink the running. I'd hate to add a knee injury to it all. We might have to solicit Eric to take my place in the 2019 RTY. I can just sync his stuff and he'll never have to futz with it.

    Funniest thing ever.

Eric asked me today and asked if i wanna do a rugged trail run February 16th. Y'all remember the last trail run i did and tried repeatedly to break my face? Hmm, a rotated femur on "rugged" trails is more torture than I'm up for... Although the thought of embracing some torture toughness...

I said "remember Lawton in October? I could barely walk". And feb 16? It could be icy frozen ground I'd face plant into. Nah.

He's testing me. Or torturing? We'll see. Its just 5 long rough miles. It has Monkey Butt Hill... 🤔

No news’s yet. I suppose if I haven’t heard anything by Friday, I’ll email the office. The new doc was suppose to look over my file, and my doc videoed my exam, so the new guy may need some time to get his people to call my people.

@shanaber that’s most excellent news on the cycling pt and you can do some light running.

I see the evil physio this afternoon so broke my rule of only 3 runs per week (well I will have done by Sunday cause now I've moved them a day forward the obsessive side of my brain wants to finish week 4 this week and start week 5 next Tuesday) and moved runs forward a day so that I would have done the first C25k week 4 run beforehand, given that it's when there is finally more running than walking involved. GOD it felt good! The 5 minute running intervals seemed to last at least an hour each, but it was such bliss to be running. We'll see what she has to say this afternoon, but it even feels like it warmed and loosed up the DOMS I was still feeling from Monday's weights.
I realise that although it's tough on the purse I am probably going to have to go see her for a massage every 'x' amount of time, just hoping she'll let me go to once a month at least.

Today I ran the farthest I've run since injuring myself back in September. I can definitely feel it in my ankle, but it's a lot less than it was after much shorter runs a few months ago. Hopefully having 2 days of rest, stretching and foam rolling is enough to have it ready to run again on Tuesday.

@eleanorhawkins - what did the evil physio say?
@sarahthes - rest, rest, rest and recovery!
