When I came back from my road trip on 4/5, I was up by 4lbs. This morning I was surprised to see the scale at 179.5...yay! So far so good on the Keto way of eating.
@eggfooyamyam and @stormywxs288 thank you for sharing your video recommendations. Will definitely put them on my re-education list to watch. I just watched the documentary, Carb-Loaded: A culture dying to eat and thought it was entertaining and enjoyed it.

The scale is not budging. I added in a short elliptical session yesterday. Not sure what else to do. I wonder if I'm eating something with hidden carbs.

Congratulations to everybody!! Whether you lost, maintained, or gained, you showed up today!!
I’m super happy with this weeks weigh in, especially since it’s following an early morning breakfast. I seem to be having some success with following low calorie days with higher calorie days as opposed to eating the same amount of calories every day.

I am incredibly happy with how this week went. Intuitive eating was a WIN!! I woke up at 189.0 on Monday after all the ham & teenie slice of cheesecake. It's a good reminder for me to allow myself room to enjoy things with my family on occasion, expect the fluctuations, but always get right back to the plan. I think I will continue the intuitive eating.
I'm getting back to my exercise this week. YAY!

In other news, Mr Nikki completed a whole week of eating with me. We started off with Low carb/Low fat for 4 days, then after that torture I introduced him to the wonderful world of HIGH FAT! Last night we had peanut butter cake with breyers carb smart vanilla ice cream. He LOVES keto. I only have to cook one dinner now. I am a HAPPY woman! I may or may not be jealous of the amount of food he can eat and still lose weight.

Yay!! Thanks for the shout out!! I'm creeping up on 10 months keto & 90lbs down. When I started last June/July, I had "dreamed" of losing 100 lbs in a year, and wondered if it was possible. That possibility is coming ever closer to reality!! Wahooo10 -
I am using a new scale... it weighs different than my previous scale. Weight corrections.

@River Goddess:I'm creeping up on 10 months keto & 90lbs down.
I’ve only been on this thread since January, so I obviously haven’t followed your story from June. However, it is stories like yours that impress me most. I’ve been on keto for just over 3 months - that is the longest I’ve ever stuck to any lifestyle change. And I’ve been searching for the holy grail of diets for over 40 years now.
Your 10 months of keto dedication and approaching 100 pounds of weight loss are testaments to keto and an inspiration for all of us. It makes it real when we know a person we’ve dialoged with on this thread who approaches significant milestones like you have. Your success is our success. Congrats.

Thank you @stormywxs288 your words mean a lot to me. It's true that we "hear" about this kind of success, and it's really cool to be able to see that it's not just a myth hehehe.
The plan works if you work it!!
I'll post progress photos at 100lbs down, or 1 year keto - whichever comes first. (I think I know which one will come first though )5 -
Eek! Forgot to post yesterday! Down 0.4 lbs. I'm happy the scale moved (albeit less than a half pound), though I admit I haven't been exercising at all.
I've also read some confusing stuff about only focusing on macros and not looking at total caloric intake. Others say it's really important to do both. What are your thoughts and experiences with calorie tracking and keto?

So close to the 160’s... and I went backwards!
I’m sticking to my keto/carnivore plan and staying under 1200 cals but lately I’ve been waking up feeling puffy, bloated and inflamed.
I’ve paired my diet down to basically nothing but meat, the odd bit of cheese and a morning tea with almond milk and Walden farms zero carb syrup. I have a feeling my tea habit is the problem but I haven’t given it up yet...1 -
@d_dc_lady Keto isn't what makes us lose weight, but rather a calorie deficit. I've seen it recommended, when starting, to not focus on calorie intake but rather, on getting used to a low carb diet. I think when you're making any change in diet you're not used to it's helpful to keep a log so you can see where your macros are falling and where you can make adjustments.
For me personally, if I didn't keep a close eye on my total calories, I'd overeat fat (hello butter, bacon & mayo!). Many years of eating high carb high fat have really skewed my ability to know how much to eat and when to stop. I think that's true for many people.5 -
@NikkiJRM That definitely makes sense. I've only been doing Keto for two weeks, and the first week I lost 2.5 lbs with my calories at or around 1580 (which MFP says is a 0.5 lb/week weight loss average for me).
I think my body was adjusting and losing water weight et cetera that first week. The second week I was nearly at the 0.5 lb loss predicted by MFP. I've adjusted the settings to a 1 lb/week calorie goal, which is 1300/day. I'm also aiming to exercise 3-5 times/week going forward. Hopefully that will make the difference.0 -
I've also read some confusing stuff about only focusing on macros and not looking at total caloric intake. Others say it's really important to do both. What are your thoughts and experiences with calorie tracking and keto?
I happen to think Keto is a magical, beautiful, scientific miracle. You’re right about calorie deficit and I’ve had good luck using MFPs suggested calorie counts. But here is where the real magic has happened for me. Eating high fat satiates me. I feel full faster and it lasts for a long while. So, I was able to squeeze my eating window smaller and smaller by eating breakfast later each day and dinner earlier.
I used to eat breakfast as soon as I got up and dinner sometimes as late as 8:00pm. Now I break my fast (breakfast) at 11:00am and I have dinner before 5:00pm (6 hour eating window) and (18 hour fasting period). In addition, because I have a short eating window, I’ve been able to cut down to 2 meals a day. It is almost impossible for me to eat too many calories in just 2 meals.
Having said that, I know it may sound extreme. It is not. I can do these things for several reasons. Two big ones are; I’m retired and an empty nester with zero responsibilities for anybody or anything else. Actually, only eating 2 meals a day in such a short eating window has set me free. And the 18 hour fasting period is when the magic weight loss happens.
It didn’t happen overnight though. It took me three weeks to get over all of my keto flu symptoms. I ate 3 meals a day for close to 2 months. And I have viewed hundreds of hours of youtube and other internet content to learn about keto. Not to mention the fabulous help I’ve received right here on this thread. I’m confident if you stick to some sound keto principles you will have the success you are looking for too.

Hello everyone,
I would also like to join the April challenge, if possible. I started last Wednesday and had a carb slip up this weekend.
I'm good during the week since I'm working but at home, and out with my husband and daughter I tend to eat what we have around. But today is another day and I'm hoping I can get some numbers down this week

@stormywxs288 I do intermittent fasting too. I usually do 8hr/16hr. Eat between 11am and 7pm. and fast the rest of the time. For me this was actually pretty easy because a lot of time I wouldn't be hungry or would simply just forget to eat breakfast. This mostly just helped me stop snacking late at night. I also like the fact that it means I can eat a bigger lunch and dinner calorie and carb wise because I try to stay below 1200 calories per day, which can be a little hard when you're aiming for higher fats which typically mean a lot more calories. So I aim for 500-600 calories for lunch and dinner, maybe add a little snack if I need it and have the calorie room, but I try not to. This usually keeps me a lot fuller than eating 3 smaller meals and when I did that I tended to get hungry and eat snacks more often. I've heard/read that it's not good for your body to basically eat a little bit throughout the day.
Dr. Eric Berg explains this very well. Here's the Youtube link if anyone is interested in learning more about it. @d_dc_lady

What are your thoughts and experiences with calorie tracking and keto?
I did a lot of research before starting keto and what I read, calories aren't supposed to matter as much because you're eating more healthy on a keto diet. Cutting out the carbs, refined sugars, processed foods, naturally brings the calorie count down. That being said, when I used a macro calculator to figure out my macros, my calories also were adjusted. I've just been sticking to that as much as possible. I think mine are set around 1250/day and I'm kind of addicted to coming in below my count because MFP has that lil blurb with my daily food diary "and she came in below her calorie count," but honestly, I'm not really watching my calories throughout the day. Just my carb/fat/protein intake.

This may be true for someone who eats meat & veggies but, at the end of the day calories are exactly what matters no matter what diet you keep. The thing with keto is it's incredibly easy to overeat fat. Once people start making desserts & even a lot of the snacks or bpc & using hwc there is a lot of fat. Fat is calorie dense.
I know I personally loved making desserts & keto alternatives to a lot of my favorite foods, but they always have a lot of dairy & butter. I had to skip over many recipes because they would have put me over on calories for the day.

@rae1388: Dr Berg is an incredible source for keto information on a variety of topics. He is really great at breaking down complex topics into small digestible pieces that are easy to comprehend. He is my #! go to keto Sherpa Guide. Here are some other keto gurus I like to watch: Thomas DeLauer, Keto Connect and Mark Sisson
Also there are a lot of super cool keto cooking channels out there. Two of my favs are: Headbangers Kitchen and Lil Piece of Hart
I would love to hear from others what your go to sources for keto info are.1
