@MadisonMolly2017 . I don’t call myself a quilter but I have made a few easy ones. I made rag quilts for all of my girls over the past few years. And about a dozen more, but only in my mind😏 I’m working on a Snow Days quilt and have 6 of the blocks embroidered. One of my HabitBull habits is needlework 5 days a week and so far I’m ahead of schedule. I am annoyed to say my September goals are not being accomplished. I need to figure out why I’m so resistant to doing the things that I want to do. Makes no sense but there it is🙃 Maybe if I journaled...

I, too, have had resistance at times (particularly the art) falling back on decluttering, MFP, exercise, and nutrition instead...

I’ve been learning to set very easy little goals. Today, I spent 15 mins reviewing notes from an art workshop I took two years ago & re-found & read some ideas I had for a book/short story that I might write in future. I think sometimes I put too many rules and too high standards on myself. Learning to “count” the small things :)

Day 13 Step class today and I was able to complete the whole class without having to stop for any of my own mini breaks! I can tell my endurance is getting much better.

Outstanding, @Heidijens123! Isn’t the body amazing? Use it more and it just gets better, stronger, faster, and healthier. Well done!

I could not agree with you more, @MadisonMolly2017!! It’s the time doable, 10 to 20 minute habits that have stuck with me and improved my life. The more ambitious, “I’ll go to the gym every day for an hour” intentions get chucked by the wayside.

To anyone who struggling with making progress on their goal for September, is your goal something you can do in 10 or 15 minutes? And if it’s not, how can you shrink the scope of your goal to make it something you can do in that amount of time. The trick is to get started, to get in motion, and lay down the practice of doing the habit everyday.

No class today so I went on a bike ride. I did the same route as I did on Wed and I cut 8 minutes off my time and I only had to get off and push my bike up hill 1 time instead of the 3 I had to do last time. There are 4 steep up hill climbs and I long steepish climb. I feel so accomplished as I was really fighting myself to go this morning after a long afternoon moving sprinkler pipe on the farm yesterday.

Good for you! I'm not only happy for you, but I feel so proud of you for your dedication! This gives me hope that with little steps, I can get there too someday!

I've not been able to get meditation in every night, mainly because I cannot seem to get 10 to 15 minutes of QUIET before bed! When I go to bed early, thinking I can sneak it in quickly before my husband comes in, he follows me to bed to watch TV in the bedroom. (Two nights ago he actually came into the room and turned on the bright overhead light AND the TV and refilled his medication containers. Really? Can't see me here with my eyes shut and my earplugs in? Ugh!) If I stay up and wait for him to go to bed, so that I can meditate in the living room in the quiet, he stays up extra late and I end up just going to bed and falling asleep. Also, one of my husband's brothers has been in town for a week and has been staying in our spare room, so that room is out. Everything just feels catawampus lately. I'm really craving routine... :confounded:

On a GOOD note, I have been putting in earplugs and playing a white noise app called Rain, and reading out of my inspirational books instead. I have resumed writing in my gratitude journal at night also. So although I'm not using Calm app and meditating, I am still getting some quiet reflective time which helps me sleep better.

Hi! I've been drawing every day as per my goal for this challenge.

I wanted to share today's drawing which I'm really happy with.

This is FANTASTIC! You are really talented! If I tried to do that, it would look like one of those stick figures bumper stickers you see in car windows! LOL!

@MadisonMolly2017 I guess I should have read the last sentence of your post better! 😆. Still absolutely love the first one. Looks like you’ve found some good inspiration. It makes me happy to look at different quilt designs so I understand how enjoyable looking at fashion sketches is to you. They are really intriguing.
@Heidijens123 Wow! I bet not having to stop for mini-breaks feels awesome! You are kickin’ it! The body is an amazing thing, isn’t it!?!

You are a woman after my own heart! I want to be a quilter SO BAD! I can spend HOURS online looking at quilts on Pinterest and watching YouTube videos of Therese Down Under and Jenny @ Missouri Quilt Co. I have subscriptions to about 5 different quilting magazines too. I have made a few baby quilts, but I'm terrible! I'm currently trying to make one for a friend I met on MFP on another thread, actually. Her poor baby will probably graduate from high school by the time I finish it! I chuckled out loud at your comment about how many quilts you have made in your mind. I'm right there with you!

This morning I feel much better mentally. I broke a sweat while exercising and started ( as suggested here) with some gratitude. So far so good. I am taking L Theanine which is a supplement to improve the mood and it does make me more calm. Yesterday I was in complete control of my emotions during a situation in my home so I am giving myself credit for that.

Sounds like your week is starting off well. Exercise and gratitude are great ways to start the day, week, the rest of your life. Hugs! <3

My apologies for being absent. I have a lot going on my groups are have taken a back seat. I am sleeping so much better and averaging almost 7.5 hours each night.

My mediation practice is lovely. After my morning yoga I sit in mediation for a few minutes. I do the same in evening. I am using an app called Down Dog that finishes with mediation too. I often fall asleep listening to my Calm app bedtime stories. I believe the mediation is the reason I am sleeping better. With the cooler temps I hope to sleep even better.

I quit wearing my FitBit to bed. I found that I would check it for the time and other data in the middle of the night.

@PinkyPan1, I am so happy to hear that you are sleeping better. And I so agree -- some data is a good thing, but too much data is not helpful!

    Hi all,
I’m sorry I’ve been absent. Long story short I went for a long hike on Sunday and fell on a very hard packed mountain bike trail, and it up breaking the top of my upper arm bone where it meets the ball of the shoulder socket. I saw the ortho specialist today and he said it was really my choice whether to do surgery or just use the sling but after I looked at the x-rays and saw that the ice cream scoop was half off the bone and after he told me there was a better chance at the bone would heal and that there was a better chance it would have more range of motion and strength, I am choosing the surgery. Because he’s going out of town and only does surgery two days week, I am going to be scheduled for next Thursday.

But what I wanted to share with this group is how all the things that we practice in this group carried me through walking to the car for 90 minutes with a broken arm. How they helped me continue to enjoy the beautiful nature around me for those 90 minutes. How they helped me breathe deeply and stay relaxed especially my arm muscle so that the pain was minimal. How I handled myself in emergency room for eight hours receiving many compliments for my patience and kindness. I didn’t get ahead of myself with negative thoughts about what could happen what could be wrong with the arm I just focused on the moment. I had a beautiful time on this hike that I have wanted to take for 10- years but was never in good enough shape to do it.

Because I’ve lost weight and been exercising regularly for over a year now, I am in good shape for the surgery and I know I will recover faster & probably better than I would’ve when I was overweight.

The break is on my right arm and I am right-handed so I can’t do much drawing or artwork or many other things I like to do although I did do some decluttering LOL with my left hand today which was pretty fun. But I’m thinking of doing some drawing with my left hand and see what happens!!!

I likely won’t be typing on here as much I’m using the voice right now but I’m trying to spare the arm as much as possible before the surgery. I believe the recovery will be fairly rapid he says I’ll be able to use the arm shortly after the surgery. If I used the sling it could be months before I could use it.

I also want to share with all of you that share my decluttering passion, that having the house organized really helped my husband do things for me the last couple of days. It was easy to tell him where something was that normally I would get we had our food system down he knew what I had for breakfast It just made everything simpler to be able to locate things and have a pleasant space around us. So for all of you in the throes of that, just know that it just gets better and better and better just like the losing weight does ...know when you get close to your goal weight you start feeling really good and you can handle things life throws at you like an instantaneous slip on a hard piece of trail.

I love you all and I admire your courage as we tackle our precious lives. 💞

Oh my goodness sweetie! I am so very sorry to hear you’ve been injured! I am a prayer warrior so I will be asking for a successful surgery and quick uneventful surgery. I couldn’t have been as brave as you, I just know it. I am sending you gentle cyber hugs...can you feel them? ❤️

@MadisonMolly2017 , I'm so sorry to hear about the broken arm! WOW! Having to walk 90 minutes with that break must have been quite the ordeal. I'm glad that all your healthy practices have worked in your favor and made things easier. Drawing with your left hand sounds interesting. You could also try things like exploring collage while your right arm is healing. I too will be praying for a good result from your surgery and a speedy recovery. Take care.
