It’s been good! I completed the C25K outdoors, but after a few hot and humid morning runs, I decided to try running at the gym on a treadmill. It’s a different experience—there so many distractions of people wandering around, and the machines make me very aware of how slow I run! I try to focus on my progress and assume that I’ll get faster with time. :)

It’s hot outside here too and I’m wondering how that will work out. I don’t have a gym membership so I’m running in the evening around my neighborhood. I plan to attend a 5k Parkrun on Saturday morning and listen to the B210k podcast while there since it looks like the time would overlap with my current pace

Hello!! I have my final C25K run on Friday morning and then will be 'bridging' from Sunday! We are having strangely cool weather here but am a bit concerned about I'll cope when the inevitable heat arrives.

I am only going to do 2 runs from the programme a week as I simply don't have time for the long runs more than that! So, on my third run day I'm gonna do 30 mins and try to get faster and so further each week.

@emmamcgarity your podcast and my app attack the bridge in slightly different ways, will be interesting to compare notes!

@msielbeck hello! What programme are you using for the bridge?

Hi! I’m using the zen labs app, mostly just for tracking and the voice cues. It’s not quite as critical anymore since the run times are more consistent (4 10-min runs, 3 15-minute runs, etc).

Hmmm I’m going to think about my start date a little more. Maybe I will just start tomorrow night and see what my distance ends up being before I go to parkrun on Saturday

    My app makes it complicated!

    Week 1: run 20 walk 3 win 20 x 2 then once with the walk just 2mins

    Week 2: run 10, walk 1, run 10, walk 2, run 10, walk 3, run 10, walk 4 run 10. X 2 and then repeated with 12 min runs

    Week 3: run 15 walk 2 run 15 walk 3 win 15
    Run 25 walk 5 run 15
    Run 25 walk 3 run 15

    Week 4: run 30 walk 5 run 15 x 2, then once with only 2 min walk

    Week 5: run 40, walk 5 run 10
    Run 40 walk 3 run 10
    Run 40 walk 2 run 10

    Week 6
    Run 50 run 55 run 60

Looking forward to the challenge, but that week 6 is already terrifying me!

I went ahead and started tonight. My Fitbit clocked my overall pace at 12:30 which is only slightly faster than my 5k pace last weekend. So I think I can overlap the 2nd podcast for my 5k parkrun this Saturday. Once I hit week 2 I’ll have to make choices about b10k training vs parkrun days. It might just mean that I extend the sessions out over a longer period of time so that I can continue to enjoy these events.

The announcer on the podcast is more abrupt than the c25k announcer was. But I do like the music selections better.

Well done for getting started @emmamcgarity !

I just ran my first ever 5km, something I've fratanised with doing for over a decade but never succeeded, until today!

37 and half minutes, I'll take that and now work on beating it!

Looking forward to heading back to shorter intervals on Sunday.

    10km here we come!

    Happy Friday everyone!

I looked at my app for the running schedule—it different than yours, @kilobykilo, but gets to the same result.

    Week 9: run 10, walk 1, repeat 4 times
    Week 10: run 15, walk 1, repeat 3 times
    Week 11: run 17, walk 1, repeat 3 times
    Week 12: run 18, walk 1, repeat 3 times
    Week 13: run 22, walk 1, repeat 2 times
    run 25, walk 1, repeat 2 times
    run 30, walk 1, repeat 2 times
    Week 14: run 60

I did my 5k parkrun this morning and improved my time to 36:10. I listened to the B210k app while running but I will repeat this day since I didn’t finish all the prescribed time. The other runners at coffee encouraged me to join the local running association. They are having a banquet tomorrow night and I am considering going to meet other local runners.

@emmamcgarity Wow you took a chunk off your time, well done! And joining a running club sounds great 😁

I walked 7km of the route for my 10 km in October today, it gave me a wake up call that it is far ....!

Might do my first bridge run on part of it tomorrow, let's see!

@msielbeck our apps take almost opposite approaches to get there, will be interesting comparing notes!

@kilobykilo I had the same thought!

I’m on week 10, and it’s amazing how quickly my endurance is increasing. Getting through 45 minutes with two short walking breaks had been much easier than I anticipated. I’m also noticing that I’m going slightly faster, which is a benefit for the treadmill—I know exactly what my pace is and how far I’ve run. (Don’t get me wrong, I’m still slow as molasses).

All ready to run but laid on the sofa putting it off! I will be reporting back later that run 1 is done, I will!

Done! Was hard today, but I made many mistakes in how I attacked it. Roll on Tuesday when I can repeat!

In my area there is a runners association and several running clubs. The association automatically gives me membership in RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) and then there are various regional training clubs. I haven’t chosen a training club yet. I’m going to keep chatting with people at Parkrun before choosing the one that will best meet my schedule etc. I live in a large metro area and it’s hard to absorb all this information at once. The association is having a banquet tonight and I’m working up the courage to attend. It might be a good way to learn more about the various clubs within the association. But I sometimes find I need some time to work up to larger crowds of people.

The weather tomorrow is expected to rain. So, I’m going to go ahead and do run 2 of B210k again today so that I can focus on keeping it at a conversational pace to build endurance.

@emmamcgarity did you make it to the banquet? So far I’ve been too self conscious to join a run group. I’m worried that I will get too wrapped up in what everyone else is doing without considering that I’m doing great for me. But, I’ve heard very positive things about running groups, particularly meeting some really cool people.

Have any of you had a really crappy run session? Today’s run was particularly poor, and I’m trying to decide if it was so bad I should repeat the day or if I should just keep moving through the program. There are several factors that contributed to my poor performance (including heavy foods before running, poor sleep, weird time of day, too strong of a start, etc). I’m not sure, however, if there is any benefit to repeating the run. I did learn the key lesson that I need to plan better for future runs, and not just go on an impulse run.

I did go to the banquet. I am glad I did. There were several different training clubs represented there and everyone I met suggested the same club for me based on my location in the city. One of the ladies from Parkrun is a World Record holder in the Masters and remembered me from last week. She was very generous with her time and invited me to sit with her. She introduced me to many people at the banquet. I was happy to see several friends from Parkrun win awards. Everyone agreed that I am on the right track by adding weekly mileage right now and not worrying about my pace. I mostly run on my own, and that works well for me. Parkrun is the only group event I’ve attended so far. But I think I will sign up for a chip timed race at some point. And I’d like to see what they do at some of the area club workouts.

Yes. I have had bad runs. My son pointed out on one particular one that I hadn’t eaten fur several hours and was likely low on energy as a result. I couldn’t even finish that planned run and found myself walking home feeling defeated. If you were not able to complete the run as designed I would suggest repeating it. I think it is safer to repeat runs than it is to push through too hard and get injured.

@msielbeck bad runs happen, I'd defo repeat. Depending on how tomorrow goes I'm already thinking about repeating the first week of my 10km program. I'd rather do it well than rush ahead. I've just over 3.5 months until my run so can take my time.

@emmamcgarity yay, well done for going to the event! I'm the same as you with worries about large groups of people but it sounds like it was great!

Run rest day today but just did a nee dumbbell workout for my arms which was hell ha ha ha, now going on a pre work walm as I'm working later this week so want to ensure I get my steps in and my legs are well stretched out before repeating my run tomorrow.

    Here's to a great July!

Second run done, didn't get it right again...... was just doing my thing when the voice in my ear announced I'd done 10km in 6 mins something..... whoops!

Starting out tio quick made for a really rough second interval.

I've decided that in Thursday, my short run day, I'm just gonna try and do a slow and STEADY 3km then, hopefully on Saturday I'll take that feeling with me into the intervals!

Realised I planned tomorrow as a running but non programme day as I'd be too busy with work, but..... it's a public holiday so I'm free to run as long as I want.

However, as it is a holiday I'm turning off my alarm so will see how warm and sunny it is when I wake up and go from there.....!

    Hiws everyone else getting on?

    Meh.

We have a family commitment starting tonight, so I was prepping for it yesterday instead of going for me run. Today I finished work early, and was getting ready to go for a run when I realized that my running shoes were in my husbands car. In fact, both pairs of running shoes were in his car.

    I’m pretty vexed TBH.

I got the week 1, run 3 complete tonight. I found it fairly easy. I’m deliberately keeping an easy pace. I may end up running again tomorrow. Normally I’d have a rest day, but the weather is a bit unpredictable these days. So sometimes I’ll run on the better weather day.

@msielbeck that's frustrsting, but nothing you can do so dont worry! I hope you have a good day today.

@emmamcgarity it was easy? Wow, I'm in awe! I'm finding these long runs tough..... must slow down!

Well, I woke up late and it's already hot, part if me wants to get out there anyway but the the rest of me knows I should wait for this evening! Let's see how that goes! Might well go back to non programme run today and programme run on satuday as planned.

Happy 4th July if you're celebrating! Here in central Portugal we are, but because it is saint Isabel's day and shes the saint of the town i live in so we all get a day off :)
