July (2019)
WELCOME to all walkers, we are walking into the second half of 2019!
We will begin our July Walk Challenge in several days, so now is the time to be thinking about our new monthly challenge goals!
Having Leslie's, or other walking DVDs, to pop in the player continues to be a great alternative to walking outdoors. Because of the warmer weather walking or hiking outdoors might possibly be a pleasant alternative to the DVDs for those who enjoy getting their miles or minutes outdoors, unless summer where you live is now very warm/ or even getting quite hot
, then walking indoors with LS or other instructors is a blessing to have available.
This group is open to any and all walkers. The majority of us use Leslie Sansone Walk At Home DVD workouts, as well as those great walks or hikes outside on the trails or pathways that are available to us, or a walk in our neighborhood, and on the treadmill, as well as Walking DVDs by other instructors to change things up or challenge us in different ways. All of these many options count toward our miles and minutes. However you get your walk on, come on in and join us! Post your miles or minutes that you have walked. However you do it... it is all good!
We are a happy, supportive group, and I promise that joining this walk challenge will motivate, challenge, as well as inspire you!
Set your goal for how many miles or minutes that you want to walk, indoors or out, this month. This is your own personal goal
. Post your results daily, weekly, or whenever you like.
If you find this challenge in the middle of the month it doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you want to walk for the remaining days in the month. You are always welcome
!
Also, if you are new to the group please feel free to start today, so that by the end of the month you will be that much closer to your health goals. It is never too late to join in.
It is always fun to read which DVD, whether Leslie or another instructor, that you used. Or whatever form your walk took, whether outdoors or on the treadmill or anything in between. We all could use some new inspiration sometimes, or inquiring minds sometimes just want to know, so please consider sharing which DVD, or if there is something that you really liked about the exercise that you chose to do.
Come on in and let us start walking the Monthly Walk Challenge together. I am very grateful for each one of our precious walkers who continue to inspire and motivate mile by mile, and step by step, each month.
I know that we are always excited to see our long time faithful walking friends
as we come back for yet another amazing month together, and we are awaiting the opportunity to welcome newcomers to this month's Walk Challenge!
And now... let us lace up those walking shoes and get our water... as we begin to walk during July!
Walking together is always such fun...

Hi Everyone-Well, I have certainly fallen off the wagon now haven't I! I am afraid that traveling, grandchildren and remodeling have sidelined my workouts. I was keeping my mileage up anyway, but since I have gotten back to the mountains, that has fallen off and I need to get back on it!!!! So, my goal for July is to work out with Leslie at least every other day and get 3.5 miles a day on my Garmin for a total of 108.5 miles for July!
Goal: 3.5 mi/day or 108.5 mi/mo-Leslie every other day
All of you have been Walking Strong, so I need to take my own advice and Walk Strong!

I haven't done the walking series in years, but would very much like to join the July challenge. I think it might help get me off the recliner knowing you are all going full throttle. It will light a fire under my butt, hopefully. ☺2

Hi again. I'd like to be included in the July challenge. I need to be more consistent with this MFP group since I love Leslie walks. I've even been a walk leader in the past hosting my own classes here in central Texas. My goal for July is to walk at least 6 miles per day, consisting of a combination of "Leslie" miles as well as traditional walking.
Wishing us all well on achieving our goals.3 -
Hi guys, can you tell me please, how you log these walks in your exercise log? Will be starting tomorrow with the one mile walk. Thank you! ☺1
-
Happy July! I am going to commit to a min. of 60 mins. a day of Leslie Walks. I know I will be driving up to SD for a week so that will take some of my exercising time. But maybe I can get on the treadmill at the hotel or in the pool for an hour.

@LyndaBSS We walk until our bodies tell us to stop. Some of us walk 1 mile a day some 2 some 7 it depends on your level of fitness. The goal is just to walk and post it here to encourage others and motivate yourself. Good luck we are here for you.1

Hi Lynda. MFP has some "default" exercises in it's database and you can type in "aerobic exercise" or "walking" (it goes from 2.0 mph to 4.5, I think) and it will determine how any calories you burned based on the information you have given when you set up your stats such as your weight and height and so on.
Or, if you have a tracker, such as a FitBit or something similar, it will tell you how many calories you have burned during your walks. You can sync your tracker with MFP, (see the HELP tab at the top of the screen on the right and search for syncing trackers) and it will automatically appear in the exercise section or you can manually just note the time you started exercising and the calories burned to that point. When you finish your walk, (you can include the warm ups and cool downs also if you want to) and do the math and there's your total calories burned for that activity. You just type it in instead of letting MFP choose the calories you burned.
Regarding exertion and Leslie's workouts: A few years ago Leslie said that she considers her workouts as "aerobics, general". There are several aerobic listings in the database so it's good to have a sort of baseline to go by. Since that interview, Leslie has made some intense workouts that I think qualify as "aerobics, high impact".
Most trackers are only about 70 to 75 % accurate and I'm guess MFP's way of tracking is about the same, maybe a bit better. So take it all with a grain off salt. It's not perfect but having some idea of calories burned is better than none, I say. MFP is set to allow us to eat back all our exercise calories. A lot of people choose to eat back half or none, so there's that to think about.
Hope this has helped. It might be TMI, sorry, once I get going I'm hard to stop on things Leslie.3 -
Hi y’all. I need to get some health focus back on me. Last month & a half, I became completely consumed with my parents. I still am, but need to start shifting gears & finding a balance.
Last month, I lost a few more pounds ...getting to the lowest I’ve been in several years, but past week gained some back. I also got quite a few steps in last month—just. happened to happen. So I am pleased with that. Didn’t track well tho.
Today, 152 lbs. need to start eating healthier again. And goal for this thread is to get any kind of exercise in at least 3 times per week. Not necessarily a walking or Leslie sansone goal, but hope y’all don’t mind if I post here. (Btw, yesterday i walked over 8,000 steps — which is my goal as far as steps go).
Luv to all!

Girls, I'm seriously bumming over here. For the 3rd week in a row, I've had no one show up to walk at my location.
Today, I didn't even walk the trail myself. Just went sat there and waited and then left.
I'll get 2 miles in later at home.1 -

@Deeder522- I'm not really surprised and it is one reason there is so much obesity in MI. We have tried to get a walking group going in Flint as well and if 2 people show up it is a lot. We even have trouble at the college where everyone knows how important fitness it. People SAY they will come, but have a bazillion excuses when they don't. My heart goes out to you and if I were there, I'd drive over and walk with you.
Walk Strong Everyone! :bigsmile:2 -

@Deeder522 I'm in Texas. Idk where you are, but if you're nearby, I'd walk with you. I don't have a strong support system either but I'm determined to keep pressing on!1 -
Goal 155 miles.
July 1: 5.49 miles
July 2: 5.33 miles
July 3: 5.41 miles1 -
7/3 -- No intentional exercise today.
IDK what hit me yesterday afternoon and evening, but I was too weak to exercise at all! This just supports my own theory (that I haven't put into practice consistently) that getting up at 4 am to workout is far better because at that hour, no one needs you, and your day hasn't gotten crazy yet or taken unexpected turns. Well I've got a lot of steppin to do between now and Saturday night if I'm going to make my 100,000 step goal. I'm almost halfway there.
GOAL = 6 miles per day
July 1: 6.51
July 2: 7.07
July 3: 2.82 -
