You definitely need a grill!1
-
I can see Alexandra the grill mistress with a second kitchen too! 😎0
-
Also baking bacon. I put it on a cooling rack on a baking sheet, and it doesn't curl or spit at me, just bakes and gives me lots of nice unburnt bacon drippings that I can put in a jar in the refrigerator and use to pep up various vegetables.3

Sweet Alex I became tired reading what you had to prepare but I can see how your organization skills save you time in the long run!….
My days this week have been very hard for me with John confined to the bed except bathroom and showers….I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders…he usually helps with some chores and keeps me laughing at least….today he misplaced his diamond ring and I looked for it bending and squatting searching for it….he found it under him in the bed SMH….I brought the empty garbage cans in and took the dog out…I changed the bed linens and unloaded the dishwasher….fixed breakfast, lunch, and dinner; serving it on a tray to John in bed….I am tired….I have cut my sodium and kept my calories in check…I see my doctor Monday and he will refer me to a cardiologist….John gets injections deep in his hip next Thurs. and has to be put to sleep to have it done…Amanda comes home from teaching hobbling on her knee that needs repaired….grandaughter is being a pain….son in law works all day and grandson helps me if I ask….my son is going hiking for 4 days next week….he has called but he hasn’t driven down here…I am in a mood!2 -

Love to have one, but at the moment it's towards the back of the list. We need to replace the couch badly because at this point no one wants to sit on it because it angries up their back. And if I get the sort with built in recliners I can sleep in it post-surgery. And then there's the whole engagement and wedding ring thing, and then I want a puppy, and he'll be about $2000. So getting a grill is sort of lower on the list.3 -
I've erased and will TL;dr:
--check out pet insurance companies and coverages. Try to figure out what future pricing will be. Currently my $50 a month dog insurance from 6 years ago is coming in at $207 per month. That's a bit above inflation and has to do with age. By the way, this is WITH the 30% claim free over six years discount. This year's price was quoted before any claims went through.
--consider, strongly, getting an unwanted jailed dog from one of the shelters. including the many kill shelters. They may be a bit more work to start. But I think it is worthwhile.
--don't forget that pets like good couches too!2 -
What kind of pet insurance?0

Today was Rome Reality day!
Finally talked with the fellows I'm working with and turned out it is up to me to book flights....
BOOKED!
And I added on three full days for me to wander/play/gaze after the work stuff is done. Was in a panic at first - this is something I would have liked to take some time to plan (since it turns out it was me planning - and I'm not sure how it is all going to come together - but none of that matters because for certain I will be in ROME for TEN DAYS at the end of June beginning of July.
Holy Schmoley!
Right now I don't even care if I have little to wear.4 -
Had one of the tubs from yesterday for lunch - was Leek & Potato Soup (can’t remember making it!) - was ok! The other is Sweet & Sour Pork - I’ve baggsied that! OH is sorting himself out …. And sulking I think 🙄😉
Yeah for soup! Does "baggsied" mean it went into the trash?
I'm always entertained when I'm not quite certain what something is until it has defrosted a bit. Keeps life exciting4 -
Good morning! Beautiful sunny day here and hot cross buns for breakfast!
I was going to come on here & share The-day-that-started-so-well-but-ended-so-badly! Suffice to say it involved my poor, MIL who has Alsheimers, a trip to the Police Station and my having to complete my work records from yesterday today, with the oH being in a mood because I will have “ruined yet another BH” …In my post covid hue, all I can think is I’m so tired I could cry, but determind to stay within calorie range & not blow it, in these early days, on comfort food like I do ..did in the past!
Doing writing as we speak & getting on with organising & going to take mutt to the river to dance with ducks🦆🦆🦆🦢🦢🦢3 -

“Baggsied” - northern english for claimed! Though well go into the bin today as didn’t eat it . Was at MILs and no fresh, indate food in there , so was ready meals for us fro the local Tesco’s minimart…. They do a tasty chicken in mushroom sauce with spuds & green beans that runs to an acceptable 281 kcals that is an okay substitue in an emergency!3 -

Oh how exciting! Love, love that City, though was a young ‘un when went there!3 -
How exciting, Laurie! That's wonderful!
Up early to try it out (I'll start getting up at this point when Boyfriend goes back to work) and it seems to be okay with my body so far. Going to start on the garlic bread so that I can get the oven free later. (I use my oven as a proofing chamber, so while the bread is making, I can't bake anything else.)3 -

Pack light because the shops will be full of sale items ahead of the main retail summer holiday (many non-tourist businesses in Rome close for the whole of August) so you'll easily bag some cheap summerwear.
I hope you like it hot hot hot...our first ever trip to Rome was at that time of year and it was 42 degrees when we were schlepping around the Roman forum. Still, we survived, with the help of the fantastic drinking fountains. And clearly it didn't put us off, because we've been back there at least 20 times since...

Such organized meal planning, I see. But, I could never achieve that kind of organization. Well, no. I attempt. But, my indecisive (or is it actually really decisive? 🤔) self would change all meal plans at the drop of a hat. So, some days, I feel like eating volume. On other days I feel like eating something quality. But, most days, I let fulfilling the protein requirement and what's in my kitchen dictate what I eat, so I don't overload my head with deciding what to eat. There's just too much good food in the world. 😩
On the other hand, it randomly decided to rain for two days, I had a cold-weather moment this past week, and now it's sunny. What? I swear California weather changes as quickly as a baby's face.
Wow! That sounds like a fantastic experience, @lauriekallis! Do enjoy your stay there and show pictures!? I was hoping to visit friends in Germany this year. Still, the Ukraine-Russia thing really put a damper on things after COVID. ☹ Family doesn't really want me going anymore because of that.4 -
It's not that I can't decide to have something different than on the plan. But I also know that nine times out of ten I'll look at the plan and say, "Yeah, that sounds really good! I want that!" because my problem tends to be that I get hungry and then I can't think straight to make the meal so I can get the calories to make my brain work. (wry grin) And usually when I get hungry it's just "hungry" and not craving one thing or another, so as long as the thing I'm making is something I like (and all the meals are things I like) I'm good with that.
Right now I haven't had onion rings for about four months, and I'm thinking I might like onion rings again. So sometime, probably next weekend, we'll have grilled chicken sandwiches and onion rings, and that will handle that just fine. I don't need them NOW. Just.... sooner rather than later. So waiting for them to come up on the plan is not a problem.5 -
You bought a ticket to ITALY in ONE day? It takes me that long to book my regular flight from dad's to home!!!!! Did you check out PC Travel? Do you have your $119 PC insider subscription going (invite code gets both people extra points)? It gives you a REAL 5% of your flight costs in optimum points. Plus what you get from the credit card you use. And I say real because some places increase the price before decreasing it. The flights I've checked with them WERE priced the SAME as elsewhere. So unlike Vancity Travel Rewards they've passed the smell test!
And I fully expect our share of pictures and descriptions!!! <-- YES! We're all going to Italy with Laurie!!!
Alexandra... it still sounds amazing to me. I literally have no idea what I'll make for dinner. Though I get your issue with when hungry... I may have accidently consumed some un-bunnie-like easter eggs laid down by the Ferrero Rocher bunny. That's not a good bunny to know for 70g so far. It's actually a terrible bunny to play with if you're trying to reduce your energy reserves!!!2 -
And just HOW did the Ferrero Rocher bunny manage to hop to your house?2
-
Well... there is this very involved and convoluted path having to do with incorrect prescriptions, going back for the correct one, 30% off if you hit a certain minimum, and some prime looking "Ferrero" staring at you right by the till! The hamsters 🐹 are kind-a-dumb and easy to convince ya know!4
-
Yeah! Everyone is coming to Rome with me!
PAV - I'm crazy busy with work at the moment - no time to think - and piling on any extra stress would have just made me....you all know what extra stress does!....so I just went ahead and booked them. Took me exactly 1 hour, followed by a walk to the grocery store to get my head around the whole thing and then one little blueberry pie for courage before I filled in those fields and pushed the online buttons.
I think the gods were smiling on me. I'm going to carry on believing that these are the best possible tickets available.
Pretty well exactly $1000 for the return trip - travelling at times that work for me. The trip there has no stop over, the trip home has a short one in Montreal. I'm shocked at how inexpensive it was.
I can't believe I have two of those chocolate bunnies in the closet to give away on Sunday - they have been there for 2 weeks untouched!
Ice cream I picked up for The Boy's visit though...that is a different story tonight.2 -
TBH? Sounds like an awesome price! And way less than what cccgg's trips have been costing starting "next door" to Italy and ending, well, almost🙀 "next door" to you in Canada!😹2

Good morning!
Calmer day in the Alla Atki household today? Do hope so!, though “guest” son No. 2 is AWOL… he may or may not turn up!
And especially determind to meet goals and aims for my habits I want to improve/ continue to develop….royally told off for my lack of 🐰🐰🐰’s yesterday & quite rightly so! Especially as I sneaked 3 squares of cute Caramac in there! 🤗
Going hunting as we “speak” … and 100g of deliciously sweet & wet grapes being bolted down….Ravenous this morning! 😬
Beautiful day lifting through the haze here this morning, no footy to go to as tha aforementioned offspring is on a red card with a monetary fine, for some heat of the moment, choice words to the referee last week…. Did I drag that boy up😡
Calls for a day in the garden, greenhouse to winter decluter & fill!
Addendum Not starting well.. took me 5 to get the Wordle this morning!🤨🤪
@lauriekallis .. impressed with speed of booking flights to Romeo…. Window shopping here for trip to Japan & that is not till mid or even late 2023… and son isn’t even there yet to visit 🤣🤣🤣2 -
Morning everyone - it's a beautiful warm sunny day here in the UK so I've been for an 11km walk and a 40km bike ride to get me off to a good start for the weekend. It was glorious whizzing along the lanes just after sunrise - I spotted a few bunnies but they were of the furry variety, glaring at me from the hedgerows for talking about the desirability of increaing my bunny-eating.
Today is day 36 of maintenance and my weight is holding steady (63kg this morning) - I'm still vacillating about whether to push on or enjoy maintenance for a while, but it's looking more likely that I'll plump for another couple of months at maintenance before pushing on to lose my final few kilos in the autumn.
Have a great weekend everyone, whatever plans you have. My weekend involves lots more cycling to take advantage of the lovely weather and - when I'm not out on my own bike - watching the men's and women's Paris-Roubaix cobbled bike races today and tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait!4 -
Getting ready for a hot and stormy Easter. But the coming week looks wonderful!
I love reading PAV’s posts on shopping - for anything. So reminds me of hubby who has to examine all the angles of a purchase ( including groceries). Sales? Cash back? Twofers? Clearance? Senior discount? Buy one get one? Which card to maximize airline fares? 🤯 The agony and what ifs drive me nuts. Hours of indecision and analysis.
It’s not about the money as much as a blood sport or challenge to weasel out the absolute best deal. The pantry is cluttered with odd items that neither of us likes BUT the price was soooo good it couldn’t be passed up. That’s why I no longer shop for groceries unless I can go alone. I tune out when vacation plans are being made because the options go on and on.
I’m with Laurie. If the price is good, stop looking. Book the dang flight and move on.
3 -
Yep, me too. Look, book, forget about it.
And never, ever compare what you paid with the person in the next seat as they’re sure to have found some hen’s teeth never-to-be-repeated deal. Ignorance is bliss.4 -
Wimin🙀
What if that OTHER person gets MY deal???????🐹🐹🐹🤯🤬
👅4 -
Men! I’ve got less time than money 💰.6

Today is the day, I can feel it--I am ready to start pushing again! Right in the middle of the most Holy weekend--both Easter and Passover coinciding, and Ramadan also going on as well. I am right in the middle of reading two books--"What to Say When You Talk To Yourself" by Shad Helmstetter and also "With Winning in Mind" by Lanny Bassham--these were recommended to me by two different singing coaches recently, as we get ready for our regional singing competition May 13th and 14th, and they are very motivating. They are oriented towards helping people believe in themselves and make decisions to increase chances of success, and I started reading them to help me with some residual stage fright and negative self-talk, but the words are resonating and can be applied to this weight loss journey as well. And I will be turning 55 June 16th, and have a vacation in San Diego planned for late July and a family reunion at a lake cottage in Michigan in early August--how awesome would it be to reach my goal weight by then! Renewing my resolve, particularly about only choosing to eat when I am actually hungry and listening to my body's cues and noticing the moment I am satisfied and stopping at that point instead of a few bites later. Not letting myself get sidetracked by the sights, smells, and sounds of my husband or others eating snacks when I know I am not hungry. Every day I have plenty of reminders of how well mindful, intuitive eating works, when I put on my new clothes, feel how much easier it is to go up and down stairs or do something simple like cut my toenails or buckle a seatbelt in the car, or when we do something new like these dancing lessons and I can feel how my body fits in a "normal" space. When friends hug me, they can reach around easily now! 22 lbs to go to reach 140, and at that point I will have lost 160 lbs and will be at a healthy body mass index for the first time since I was around 8 years old and already wearing "husky" or "chubby" sizes. I know I can do this, I have already done so much, and the time is now!9
-
You’re well on your way Jennifer. Losing 22 lbs. by August might be a bit ambitious but certainly you can continue to lose. Some is better than none!
You’re doing so well and seeing positive results in your daily activities which must be wonderfully motivating. 😁
We’re doing some traditional Easter fun for sharing.

Did a lot of precooking today, and now I am a tired girl and just sitting down. Today is Girlfriend's birthday, and I got her a pretty cake, and we are going to have presents and eat cake after Doordash delivers her birthday dinner, which is from Jack In The Box. (shrug) You get what you want on your birthday. That's what she wanted. It's okay because I had beef stroganoff which is a favorite of mine, and I ate it and am happy. I'll have a little slice of cake later, but I'll let that be that.6
