    GROUP QUESTION....

Would you like for me to start a thread for steps only or do you like to see it mixed in the team chat thread?

I was really worried about this past week because of the margaritas and wine that I had. And I’m headed out of town for a football game (my heart’s divided-both of my kids’ schools are playing each other!)

I’m hoping to increase my walking and I’m aiming for a minimum of 3,000 steps a day. Not much compared to pre-injury but I realized I need to make incremental gains instead of trying to jump back where I was. Next month I’ll be back at yoga and I snagged the last opening for a senior water aerobics class so I’m hoping to make some progress in September!

In the team thread! Giving steps daily is a way to connect with the entire team.

I am good either way. I don't do the step challenge, so I just skim past them.

Moderators - I just changed from user name from 'pjshawley' to 'Pamela_Sue'. Decided having my last name on here may not be best. And Sue isn't really my middle name; it is just what I say when I am frustrated with myself!

I won’t be much help for dinner as I make something different every evening. Do you use Pinterest? I find lots of ideas for meals and recipes. I eat a light lunch as our dinners tend to be heavier on calories. What can I say, I am married to a meat and potatoes guy. My lunch now that the grandkids are back in school will be a protein shake and 1/2 a banana. It is quick and easy. I buy my protein powder from the gym when they have it on sale. It is triple chocolate and even has chocolate chips in it. I use some diet cranberry juice, the protein powder, the other half of the banana and some ice. Mix in the magic bullet and lunch in minutes.

But for dinners this week we are having roast chicken, chicken teriyaki, ground beef stew, shake and bake skin less chicken thighs, shrimp scampi and meatballs. The teriyaki recipe is great because you make the marinade and you can freeze the chicken in it for your next meal. So I will make several batches. Sorry this is so long.

My lunches wouldn't be much use for you (freshly made salads & probiotic smoothies, etc), but dinners I try to make at least a few meals each week that allow "leftovers" so I don't have to cook every night (can easily cook multi-batches and put extras in the freezer) - bolognaise, lasagna, tuna stroganoff, shepherd's pie, corned beef, tacos, stew, chicken korma (use a pre-made spice paste from the shop, tika masala, rogan josh, butter chicken are other options), etc.

I'm eating low-carb so will swap out the starches for extra vegetables for myself, while giving my family their normal pasta/rice/couscous/potato/bread that goes with the meal.

If you eat carbs, couscous is a really nice quick substitute for rice, as it only takes about 3 mins to cook/prepare while rice takes longer. (Often this is what I give my family rather than cooking rice).

One thing that saves heaps of time on meals, is eating fewer of them (intermittent fasting). I don't eat breakfast, and only eat 2mad (2 meals a day) 4 days a week, so that means I only have to organise 8 meals a week (13 fewer meals to think about!).

But, full disclosure, my family is not doing IF, and I am in a two-parent household, so there are still meals being eaten in my household every night (while my partner is a bit lazy about cooking, he will cook 1-2 times a week, usually when I am not eating, and some of their meals might be basic baked-beans on toast or leftovers), and I still have to make lunches for my daughter every day (she just wants a vegemite sandwich every day, with a pre-bought yoghurt, muffin, and piece of fruit). So, depending on family needs, IF might not stop you from having to prepare a similar number of meals even if you're not eating them.

What do you have for dinner??

I do almost all of my cooking on a sunday because I dont have time in the week. I often eat my bigger meal at lunch time at work as I get home late and have a lighter dinner.

Lunch meals that I often microwave straight in their tupperware:
    - Curries of every description, usually I leave out most of the veg when I freeze and add a handful of peas / spinach/ frozen mixed veg as it microwaves so that it isn't soggy/discounted. If I add tons of veg I don't bother with rice, or otherwise use micro ready rice.
    - jambalaya (I use a spice packet kit and just add the rice and chicken etc as per instructions) again, I often add veg once defrosted rather than before, but do cook the peppers in with the mix.
    - Spanish chicken stew (again using a spice pack)
    - chilli con carne, often veggie
    - batch cook marinated chicken/turkey steaks at the weekend and then freeze in portions and eat with a salad
    - cous cous or bean salads, I make a pot at the beginning of the week and it keeps in the fridge for a good few days

For my other meal I then usually have soup. When it's super hot it might not really be what I fancy but because I'm eating late at night it's usually cool enough. I always try to have a load of different flavours frozen and try to be imaginative so that it isn't a boring meal all of the time.

On earlier finishes I'll have pasta and tomato sauce, again pre made and frozen in batches so just the pasta to boil.

On early finishes or days off I'll have a fish/chicken/steak with salad or veggies and maybe a jacket spud.

Occasionally I'll make beans or eggs on toast for dinner. And if I'm really rushed at work might eat overnight oats at lunchtime to save more time.

Now, after a month off, it's time to practice what I preach and crack on with the prep and rediscover what's in my freezer!

This is the finale for my Nerd Sheet.... it predicted -13 and I am at -11. This has 1 week more than the August challenge. This is telling me that I likely under estimated my calories in the past week. That, or I’m retaining water. I am not freaking out over one week being off, just will be more cautious with my estimating of calories. More weighing and more measuring.

    @Beka3695 love your nerd sheet!

Be it water retention or weighing inaccuracies you've had a great month!

Day one back on it for me and getting back on it with weighing and measuring sure is a shock to the system..... this weekend is mainly going to be me practicing ready to be truly back on it from monday!

@Beka3695 Also loving your Nerd Sheet! Over my journey this year, I have learned the importance of keeping stats and analyzing data (although not as extensive as yours!). Sometimes our mind plays tricks on us and convinces us that we aren't doing that great. This is when I go back and analyze my weight loss per month and realize, yes, this is working. If it isn't, I look at my calorie data and can see exactly where I went wrong. I love the phrase "Trust the Process" that someone posted on MFP. As I progress in my weight loss journey, I am gaining confidence that this process does indeed work. It gives me more hope and confidence going forward.
