Hi all... so happy to be going into another month with you!

This is a supportive group and everyone is welcome. We have a monthly thread just so it's easier to keep up with each other.

My goals for this month are to continue with no alcohol and lots of WFPB yumminess. I will be getting back into exercise as soon as my back gets better. I had a really bad night and barely slept so I was drooping today and left an hour early so I could try to get a nap in. I'm going to work tomorrow since the office will be all mine and hopefully I can get some things caught up over the next 3 days.

Today was good...
B - ezekiel toast, clementine
L - cooked broccoli and beet greens, a Dr. McD soup, apple, a few Lundberg thin stackers
D - will be a big ol' salad and something... maybe cheezy chickpeas

Happy to be here for another month! I'm also delighted to accept friend requests. I've become active on the McDougall Friends page on FB. Something I love about McDougall folks, and most plant folks is how welcoming they are.

It is very hot here...well into the 90s, and I'm have a couple of slips into oat milk ice cream bars...not a dangerous fall, but nonetheless, not my best choice. On the upside, I have found that fruit in a salad makes a salad yummy and also means that I don't need any form of dressing. Watermelon and grapes at the two favorites right now.

My annual physical is August 31, and I'm determined to be done several lbs by then.

Hi Shred, glad to see you here! I agree about fruit in salads. I've seen a lot of dressing recipes that use fruit as well. Magic makes nice cream quite often I think. I've never tried it but have been meaning to. I'm a watermelon fanatic in the summer. I buy one almost every week. They have been really good and sweet so far this summer.

I had a better night and got several uninterrupted hours of sleep at a time which was lovely. Back is still hurting, but it's not unbearable and I feel like it's improving little by little. Just took some Aleve and think I might try to go back to sleep for an hour before I head to the office since it's a holiday and no reason to rush in this morning.

Need to do some prepping this weekend... cooked mixed greens and veggies, E2 hummus, balsamic roasted mushrooms, butternut squash. Hoping my back will be better by Sunday so I can do some cleaning. My housework has been sadly neglected this past week.

    Happy Friday, friends!

@ShredWeek1 - You are so right about fruit in a salad. Finely diced bits of apple do it for me. I sprinkle those on salads sometimes and love it. Beets are great for me, too, but not everybody likes those.
Yay to working on your health before your physical. That will make it so much more fun!

@magic71755 -- Your menu looks awesome!

@Mihani -- Hurray to that good sleep, and I hope you got in that bonus nap before work!

My menu plan is on track, and I am off to do errands!

Went to the office for about 4 hours... didn't get as much done as I hoped but brought some things home to work on rest of the weekend. Then ran a couple errands.

Drug store for more Aleve and picked up some odds and ends in the cosmetics aisle. I haven't worn any makeup but mascara since the COVID lockdowns. Just seemed pointless, but I thought it might perk me up if I start wearing it again and take more interest in my hair, etc. I have just been pulling my hair back in a barrette most days. Anyway, thought some new makeup might inspire me. Also got some new lotions and shower soaps to try. Just a little idea to try to do something nice for myself because I've been down lately.

Then to the small grocery store for some baby spinach so I can make glowing spiced lentil soup tomorrow. Grabbed a few other veggies and some lemons while there. And miso for the E2 ginger miso dressing. Love that stuff. Picked up my veggies from my salad prepping friend.

Hope you have a good day at work, Magic. And good luck with your errands today, Austin.

Mihani: I hear you! I practically had to wear PPE yesterday, but after 4 months my hair was just unmanageable. This is the longest I've had my hair since high school and I didn't know what to do with. This is going to be a 90 degree plus week here and I'm going to do my walks early a.m. and after the sun goes down. Take care all! Do friend me since support is so critical!

Hi Shred, I did send you a friend request I think? I will say that I don't check my newsfeed at all though. I come straight to the ETL group and post here. Keeping up with the newsfeed became a time crunch unfortunately. I did go get my hair cut a few weeks ago, but I didn't get color or anything. At this point I'm thinking about growing it out and seeing what my natural color looks like. I can already see it's a lot more gray than I remember! :o

I used my new foot scrub today which felt and smelled lovely! My feet are soft anyway but it just sounded nice. I used one of my new shower soaps and lotions too. Like a home spa treatment. I am not really a "girly girl" type, but it felt good to pamper myself a bit today.

On track with a good WFPB day...
B - oats with all the usual goodies (blueberries, chia seeds, baby spinach, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, two walnut halves)
L - big ol' salad with ginger miso dressing
D - not sure yet, but thinking leftover cheezy chickpeas and some cooked greens

    Morning all...today looks like this:

    coffee
oatmeal (adding 1T flax meal), organic frozen blueberries, homemade almond milk
1/2 Chipotle bowl: beans, rice, sofritas, fajita veggies...salsasa, lettuce (had it yesterday, now hooked! UBER eats.)
    watermelon, cantaloupe, white nectarine
    other half of Chipotle bowl
    Fudge Good Pop

I do need to go to Chipotle and see exactly how they make everything. It is vegan, that I know. But not sure if they use oil. Today, when I put my order in (on phone app), I will see if there is a place to put it in the notes.

Hope everyone continues to stay well. Later, peeps.

Hi Magic, Chipotle uses oil in their fajita veggies, beans, rice, etc. I am leery of them anyway after they had the outbreaks of food poisoning, but I used to like going there now and again.

I am still having some back pain but it's not so bad now. Hopefully I'll be completely "back" (haha) to normal soon.

Set for a good week. Made up my salads and the ginger miso dressing yesterday, and made my weekly BIG batch of cooked veggies. This week is onion, carrots, peppers, yellow squash, cauliflower, collard greens, kale. I have just been seasoning lightly with coconut aminos as I add veggies to the pot. I start with onion and garlic then add each veggie by how long they take to cook and let steam/saute for a few minutes before adding the next, and end up with whatever greens I'm using. I like the slightly sweet, slightly caramelized flavor with the coconut aminos.

Magic, let us know how your homemade Chipotle turns out! I love things like that... a mix of cold and hot, crisp and cooked. Happy "Friday"!

I had a good day at the office. First time in a while I felt like I was really getting things accomplished. I brought a project home to work on tonight and then I'll read for a bit before bed. Will get some treadmill time in too.

B - ezekiel toast, blueberries and cantaloupe
L - cooked veggies, Dr. McD soup, couple wasa crackers

    Happy Monday, all,

Mihani - So glad you had such a productive day! I am envious. I got housework done today, but not much project work. I am about to go to bed early, with the aim of a morning workout and then lots of project work.

Great info about Chipotle. Not surprising that they use oil, actually! People like the taste, and they are in the business of having you want more!

MagicIf the topic interests you, I read a great book a while back that left me with an appreciation for how engineered food at a chain like Chipotle is: The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite by David A. Kessler. It was fascinating. Kessler is a former FDA commissioner, and knows a lot about the topic!

Shred - I friended you, too!

I did get in step aerobics and weight training (chest & back), though, and I have had a good ETL day today:
B-green smoothie (broccoli, spinach, blueberries), goji berries & almond butter, peach
L-spinach & garbanzo beans; zucchini with tomato & onion; steamed mushrooms & carrots; steamed butternut with some diced apple & jicama
    S-sliced mango, apple & cashews
D-big salad (romaine, bell, celery, tomato, radish), homemade dressing (dijon mustard, nooch, onion powder, green onion, cucumber), steamed butternut and acorn with some diced apple & jicama

Thanks all for the friends...it is so hot here I think my mental processes have melted!

Today I'm going to stick to a schedule. I find a loosely scheduled day prevents me from eating mindlessly.

And, oh, my I'm lovin' McDougall!

    Happy Tuesday, all!

@ShredWeek1 - So glad McDougall is agreeing with you! There are a couple of McDougall recipes that are go-to's for me when cooking for the family -- healthy, satisfying and sneakily vegan!

@Mihani - I thought about you this morning. I, too, have hair that is grayer than I remember. I am going to dye mine again soon. Likely not today, as Tuesdays are busy. But soon!

@magic71755 - Did you ever go through your test results and get settled with what you are happy about and what not?

I have been working on a project (yay!) and am about to go workout (yay again). I got some housecleaning done yesterday, which feels therapeutic. Today's goal - top of my desk!

I made a big pot of garbanzo beans yesterday, so I will be eating those for a while. Hmm, unless I make some hummus and see if the guys want to help eat that!

Today's food will look about like yesterday's!
B-green smoothie (broccoli, spinach, blueberries), goji berries & almond butter, peaches
L-spinach & garbanzo beans; zucchini with tomato & onion; steamed mushrooms & carrots; steamed acorn squash with some diced apple & jicama
    S-apple & cashews
D-big salad (romaine, bell, celery, tomato, radish), homemade dressing, steamed acorn with some diced apple & jicama

Hi Shred, glad you are enjoying McDougall! I like how he has all the info available for free on his website. I have read The Starch Solution and have his wife's quick and easy cookbook although I can't say it's a favorite cookbook. Pretty basic stuff.

Good job getting through your projects, the workouts and the cleaning, Austin! Have you tried freezing beans? I used to make big batches and freeze them in 2 cup measurements. Worked great.

My menu today looked exactly like yesterday. Super busy week at work. There's a thunderstorm rolling in so I don't think I'll probably turn on my "real" computer for now. Good excuse to go relax and read until it blows over.

So nice to have this community!

Yesterday I ate like a fataholic...I'm not sure what was going on with me, but once I started I couldn't stop. That's one reason why I'm so committed to McDougall, I'm able to eat without creating new cravings, and I just feel great.

    So, today back to principles:

Breakfast: Smoothie of blueberries, Vega protein, almond milk (I can't stomach a nonsmoothie breakfast at 5 am.)

    Snack: Cherries

Lunch; Big salad with red beans, grapes

    Snack: Frozen grapes

Dinner: yukon gold potatoes, two veggies.

Right now, my menus are pretty basic and probably will be through the end of the summer. Once I can actually walk outside with melting, I'll get more adventuresome.

Does anyone have a "produce box" delivered? I'm considering that to add some variety.

    Wednesday's Plan:

    coffee
oatmeal with 1T flax meal, blueberries and homemade almond milk
    cherries
taco salad homemade...(Gardein Ultimate Beefless Ground, green pepper, red onions, fresh tomatoes, canned chopped tomatoes, salt free mexican spice blend from Sprouts)...with added pinto bean, over loads of chopped iceberg
dinner: potatoes and massaged kale salad (kale, lemon, nutritional yeast, fresh lemon juice, avocado)
    fresh fruit

Not making any changes with diet except added a supplement from Andrew Lessman (Procaps Lab)...https://www.procapslabs.com/Products/Details/268447732/CholestaCare#Reviews

And to answer, Shred's question, I have not had produce box delivered!

Hiya Shred... your menu today sounds awesome. I used to get a CSA box. It was really great but I never knew what I was getting until that week and sometimes I would have things I really couldn't use right away. I have been considering the misfits market type of delivery though. I don't have much time or inclination to cook during the week so I like to take a couple hours on the weekend and set up what I need for the coming week.

Magic, your menu sounds great too! How are your house projects coming along?

Same meals as yesterday. I did grab a handful of cashews today at the office. Roasted and salted so it wasn't a good idea, but I gave in to temptation.

I am eating my salad now, then I'll head upstairs to get some work done and hit the treadmill later.

    Hello, plant-based friends!

Shred - I think you are so smart to start with basic menus. I still do that.

Produce boxes - I have tried those and enjoyed them, but not recently. It can be nice to get a box of produce, and can also be like getting a puzzle handed to me once a week -- what will be in the box? how will I prepare it?

Magic, I hope that new supplement goes well for you!

Today's food will look about like yesterday's:
B-green smoothie (broccoli, spinach, blueberries), goji berries & almond butter, strawberries
L-spinach & garbanzo beans; zucchini with tomato & onion; steamed mushrooms & carrots; steamed acorn or butternut squash with some diced apple & jicama
    S-apple & cashews
D-big salad (romaine, celery, tomato, radish, green onion), homemade dressing, steamed acorn with some diced apple & jicama
Exercise: yesterday was a rest day; back on today
It's also grocery shopping day. Going to head out as soon as I finish my coffee...

Got up at 5:30 a.m. to take our dog out before the weather got steamy, and there will be another walk after sundown. Really relying upon the simplest of meals, and lots of repetition. Yesterday I got my husband to eat cauliflower gnocchi, which is quite a feat....he has about 30 lbs to lose and spends most of his calories on cheese and bread. I'm not food police, but I know that what I make is what he'll eat, and I have to figure out a way to help him eat better without it being a "diet".

I'm grateful that there is watermelon in abundance, and just saw cherries at our supermarket yesterday. I now spend more of my time in the grocery excited about produce than I would have ever imagined pre-becoming The Queen of All Plants.

Hey gang...today looks a lot like yesterday!

Oh yes, I did give up my Alexia French Fries and Nut Pod creamer and numbers were basically the same after 4-6 months

...and yes, hoping this supplement will do the trick to lower the bad numbers and up the good numbers. All my supplements are Andrew Lessman/Pro Caps Labs...been a fan for years!

House chores/projects...not getting very far. -sigh-

    on to my menu

    coffee
    oatmeal, the usual
    massaged kale salad
taco salad with my Gardein mixture (might add one Ezekiel air fried tortilla made into strips)
broccoli and tofu dinner...air fry the tofu using Kikkoman, GF Panko
fruit for dessert AND a Good Pop fudge bar

    Have a great day everyone!

Cutting out my Ezekiel bread for awhile. Using ice berg lettuce cups for everything.

I like that analogy, Austin... the produce box being like a puzzle. Your menu sounds great as usual.

Shred, most people I know seem to do like you are doing with family members. Try to find things they will enjoy and sneak that healthy food into them!

Magic, your meals sound yummy today too!

Still swamped with work. Was at my desk here at home until 11:00 last night. Super tired today which is usually a trigger for overeating, but I managed to make it through the day without getting into the office snack cabinet.

Tonight I'm going to relax and read and plan for an early bedtime. Will treadmill first. Breakfast and lunch were same as yesterday. Not sure if I even feel like eating dinner. Just too tired to chew.

Looking forward to a day at home today! I have work to do of course, but will also be doing laundry, a little cleaning. I bet a nap will happen at some point. Need to set up my salads and make a salad dressing. I had ginger miso last week and enjoyed it so much in this hot weather so I think I'll make another batch of that.

I didn't buy greens yesterday at the store. Not sure where my head was. I have loads of frozen veggies and greens though, so I think I'll make a big pot of veggie bean soup for the week. I need to start using up some of these frozen veggies anyway. I don't enjoy frozen veggies nearly as much as fresh so I rarely use them but in a soup it doesn't matter as much. I'll use the spice combo from one of my favorite soup recipes... https://ohsheglows.com/2012/11/07/spiced-red-lentil-tomato-and-kale-soup/ I just leave out the oil.

    Plan for today...
B - oats with blueberries and chia seeds
L - big ol' salad and an apple
    D - veggie soup

    Happy weekend!

I have discovered cauliflower gnocchi. I'm not a pasta eater, but my husband is so the fact that I've found a pasta like product he likes and will eat is a big win for my family. He's also winning to eat non wheat pastas, so another win.

He became a vegetarian long before I did, but most of his diet is cheese/homemade bread (he makes delicious homemade bread), protein bars and pastry. He's got 30 lbs to lose with high blood pressures and cholesterol. Because his eating isn't high volume, he thinks he doesn't eat that much...but rather than "hint" I'm simply going for food he likes to eat, but healthier versions.

My eating is easy to stick to if I stick to easy:

Vega protein/almond milk with vitamins ...the only way I can get down all those vitamins is with a smoothie

    Oat bran/blueberries mid morning

    beans and greens for lunch

    Oat milk ice cream bar

    potatoes/2 veggies

When I try to eat fewer meals or pull one of my dietary Jenga blocks out...the whole tower seems to collapse.

Right now, we're going through the final stage of our son's college entrance process. He is on the spectrum with a learning disability, so it is juggling between departments for accommodations. It always always works out, but I find that being Queen of All Plants has given me just a feeling of calm that I haven't had before.

    Happy weekend!

Shred, it sounds like things are going great! Congratulations on finding a pasta thing your husband likes!

Mihani - thanks for the reminder about great soup recipes.

I have had a good ETL day today:.
B-green smoothie (broccoli, spinach, blueberries), goji berries & almond butter, peach
L-spinach & garbanzo beans; zucchini with tomato & onion; steamed mushrooms & carrots; steamed butternut& parsnip with some diced apple & jicama
    S-goji berries & almond butter
D-big salad (romaine, bell, celery, tomato), homemade dressing, steamed butternut & parsnip with some diced apple & jicama

No exercise yet today. I am going to do a walk or some stepping now, to get in my steps for the day (I aim for 7500 steps., so about 3 miles.) Then off to bed!

Good morning all! I got up a little after 4 a.m. I took a long nap yesterday and still went to bed early so here I am. I didn't make soup yesterday because I didn't have any onions. I really don't know where my head was when I stopped at the grocery on Friday. Have grocery delivery coming today so once I have my onions I'll make soup. I am baking a butternut squash and a spaghetti squash at the moment. I plan to make this with some frozen brussels sprouts which will also need the onion... https://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2011/01/spaghetti-squash-roasted-brussels-sprouts-chickpeas.html I made this recipe once before a few years ago and seem to recall I enjoyed it.

Other than a little cooking and some laundry, it's going to be a big work day. I have tons to do.

I like to keep things simple too, Shred. It's just me so anything I make is going to last several days, plus by the time I get home I just don't feel like cooking during the week.

Austin, I need to get in some treadmill time today. Between my back being messed up and work craziness I have been too lazy the past couple weeks.

    Plan for today...
B - oats with blueberries and chia seeds
L - big ol' salad and a cup of soup
D - the spaghetti squash and brussels sprouts, apple with walnuts

Hello everyone...just a little stressed these days. Covid is going around our dealership and I have been in contact with one of the girls that tested positive (her test came back yesterday...she has been out all week)...last time was 7/3 when she covered my desk for potty break.

She is really sick. I have no symptoms, still. 8 days now that I last was relatively close to her.

    today...

    coffee
    oatmeal and blueberries
    salad
    ezekiel sammy, burger with LTO
    fruit and fudge bar

probably this menu for the next five days...oh and some steamed broccoli

    have a great day everyone.

PS Our protocol for dealing with Covid stinks to high heaven and many of us are so not happy. There are measures to take this to a higher level and some, I believe, are doing just that.

Truly, not enough transparency in our workplace...which is absolutely wrong and probably against everything OSHA.

My house is a total mess...trying but not getting anywhere...so stressed about covid...now, by Brother In Law is asking me to refinance my home, since interest rates are at an all time low. I was freaking out because the house is so cluttered...and MESSY, needs professional cleaning. The kitchen is clean for cooking and the toilets are clean...I'm not that bad...all appliances work ...running water...I am not in hoarder stage...thanks Go...anyway, I found this:

    ***********************

Does a messy house affect an appraisal?
Unless the amount of clutter begins to affect the structural condition of a home, it will not affect an appraisal. The cleanliness of a home also has no impact on the value. It is not uncommon for an appraiser to walk into a cluttered, messy home.Apr 25, 2019

    *************************

Well, you have no idea how much of a relief THAT is. I will work hard this weekend...(working Tuesday five hours on my day off, to cover receptionist who is out.)...but will do my best to make it presentable.

Refinancing...that would really help to lower my monthly payments and I could one day go to three days a week...33 hours a week instead of 40.

Much relief at this moment. Thought I would share.

Been MIA since everything wrong seems to be happening and I am not my cheery self.

    Later, plant people!
