Hello all -
I’m Cathy and lube outside of Wichita Kansas. I’m a middle school math teacher. I have been teaching online since last March.
I turn 50 in March. I’m trying to wrap my head around that.
I have a goal of 50 pounds to lose - but am breaking it down into smaller chunks!! I’m trying to eat a more balanced diet, with some low carb/keto stuff thrown in.
I would love more friends and accountability support partners! Feel free to add me!! I am trying to figure out all the features on this app.
Happy New Year!8 -
Welcome!
I am another who thinks mini goals is a great plan. I am not the best friend on my feed, but enjoy interacting with people in groups like this. Maybe we should have a monthly goals thread if others would be interested.
Unfortunately I think the group joining stuff is wonky now, but there's also a friendly low carb group for those interested in that: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum
I tend to eat somewhat lower carb when losing as I find it an easy way for me to cut cals, and I am currently going to focus on losing weight I gained in 2020, when I learned I wasn't as expert at dealing with anxiety as I'd thought I had become. I originally joined MFP and lost about 90 lbs in 2014-15, when I was only 44 and 45. I wanted turning 50 to be motivation to get into the best shape of my life, but now I guess turning 51 will be the reason. ;-)
My mom had serious health issues and then died close to Christmas in 2017, so I know how very hard that can be to deal with a parent's health problems (she was near Portland and my sister and I are both in Chicago, so the distance is tough, and my mom also really didn't want her children to take care of her/see her suffering in a way that made it extra difficult). It does mean that I am familiar with a melancholy holiday season, as it's had elements of that for my sister and me since my mom died.5 -
New to group, though not new to MFP. Have lost and regained many pounds here. I've been working from home since March. Ordinarily, I move constantly at work, but at home, I spend the better part of the day sitting in front of the computer. In my sixties and want to finally wrestle this overeating beast under control. Good luck to everyone.7

Hi everyone, nice to meet you all! I turned 50 about 5 weeks ago. I live in CO with my 60 yo husband and our 11 yo daughter.
I’ve gained the Covid 19, I’ve taken up cooking a lot more than usual since March 2020. At 5’4” and 161 lbs, I’m 16 pounds overweight according to those colorful online charts, and 36 pounds over my goal weight of 125. I had a hysterectomy 2 months ago and am working on getting more active again.
My normal exercise is walking the dogs an hour a day and I only missed 3 days due to the surgery. We ski and I’m now doing indoor cycling. I’m realizing how important stretching is, my legs are in constant pain from exercise so I found some yoga videos on Xfinity.
Sending everyone healthy and happy vibes!5 -
Hi!!! I’m Kathy, and live in New Brunswick. I’m new to this group, but not to MFP. I’m still trying to lose some weight, but have never really been successful...my fault entirely.4

Starting yoga is one of my goals for the New Year (indoor biking until winter is over and running and some weights are my current exercise).6

Good Morning all, new member here. Live in NJ. Will be 55 in April and would like to lose another 10-15lbs. Have been on MFP for a while but not very active. I try to workout 5-6x/week, mostly strength and cardio. I love being outdoors and try to get in hikes on the weekends or after work. Last summer I went kayaking a few times so I;m hoping to do a lot more of that this year and maybe add some paddle boarding to the mix as well.5
