It has been one year 4 months since I have been in a store other than local supermarket, drugstore and Dollar Store. I use the Walmart grocery pickup--even light bulbs--and it is so efficient and quick.

For a good 16 months I relied on grocery store deliveries and ordering online. With the exception of about 4 middle of the night trips to my one grocery store. I'm glad to be able to go to the store now but it's definitely different.

I'm working on trying to use up my huge stockpile of cat food, canned people food and paper goods. And I kept the delivery service from the one grocery store I never went to (it's far enough away I'm surprised they are willing to deliver). So I'm finding when I do go to the store, it's not a very big order. Mostly deli and produce.

I went yesterday. The cashier and bagging person were both young men. I thought the cashier said "did you bring bags"? Uh, no, or I'd have handed them to you. He rang everything up and all three of us just stood there. Finally I said "are you waiting for me to bag". The cashier replied "no you said you didn't need bags". I just found the whole exchange completely bizarre.

That’s pretty funny about the mix up in what was said. If you had more than one item, how did he think you’d carry them without a bag? I have a soft voice and people don’t always get what I said. Years ago, I told a woman in the library where the check out line was. Her toddler thought I said lion and excitedly told me he wanted to see the lion. Mom and I had a good laugh about it.

There is a movement among many groceries/supermarkets to eliminate their use of plastic bags so it is either bring your own bag or in some, buy a cloth bag.

The big advantage of using the app to shop for groceries, it enables you to keep within a budget as you see the total before checking out. It also eliminates exposure to temptation.

When I did my last pickup, I was scheduled in the 1-2pm hour, I arrived at 1pm, called them and I was leaving the lot at 1:10pm. Most people I know who use it love the time saved feature. I certainly couldn't shop WalMart in ten minutes; it would take me that long to get inside, grab a cart and begin navigating the aisles.

When I heard about the stores beginning to no longer supply bags, I've been saving mine for that purpose but may in the future buy those bags designed for that purpose.

There are definitely some advantages to using the grocery stores’ on-line shopper services. I always like to choose my own produce and meats and DH is opposed to paying any fees for the service, so we will likely continue to do our shopping in person, at least for now.

DH is pretty good about remembering to use our reusable bags. I am terrible about remembering to take them into the store with me. Fortunately, the stores around here still provide plastic bags, which we reuse to line our trash cans. At least they all get 2 uses before arriving at the landfill.

The county next to us has stores now charging 5 cents for a plastic bag. I hate reusable bags so I don't mind paying a nickel. I don't throw them away; we use them to package people's purchases at cat shows and flea markets.

The biggest problems with the shoppers were (1) not having any idea how to pick produce, (2) not checking expiration dates, and (3) buying the wrong items. My hybrid approach lets me buy the stuff myself that they most often screwed up but have them bring stuff that's boring and/or heavy (like 20-lb bags of food for the colonies).

Stores in my town phased out plastic bags a few years ago. Much of the Cape passed bylaws mandating that stores stop single use plastic bags because of the time they take to decompose. Stores went back to paper bags or you can bring your own bags to the store.

Fox News is starting a weather channel. Just what we need - having them ramp up their misinformation about climate change.

I am SO bad with technology. But I was proud of myself last evening for figuring out how to watch the first episode of Leverage: Redemption. I always enjoyed the original Leverage. Because of the rape complaint Timothy Hutton was killed (written) off and Noah Wylie took his place. At the risk of sounding petty, I couldn't decide if Noah (1) has had too much work done (2) had a stroke and/or (3) is just aging really, really badly.

My next challenge is to figure out how to watch the second season of Evil.

I sound so OLD when I whine about the good of days of just turning on cable and "taping" my shows. LOL!

I think the new hairdresser and I are finally communicating:

Behind me is Braldt Bralds "Nine Lives Suite". I suspect it will surprise no one that many of my walls have cat themed art. LOL!

How do you keep reusable bags from quickly becoming disgusting? Whenever I go to the grocery store, I split the plastic bags into two piles - the disgustingly dirty/wet ones go in the trash and the others go into the pile for CROM fund raising events. I just can't picture it being more than 2 or 3 trips before a "reusable" bag would end up in the trash pile. Maybe my imagination isn't reality?

Most of the reusable bags we have are washable, but I haven’t really noticed an issue with them getting that dirty from ordinary usage. What do you buy that is so dirty and/or wet, lol?

That’s a great picture of you, too!

Love your haircut Maryanne. That’s a great length. I rarely remember to bring my tote bags in from the car.

Maryanne--Great pic! I'm currently binge watching the new season of Virgin River, as well as the old episodes of Grey's Anatomy on Netflix!

I’m binge watching episodes of The Closer and Major Crimes. Both were favorites of mine. Even though I originally watched all episodes but I only remember a few in detail. Plus I pick up aspects of Brenda’s and Fritz’s relationship that I missed the first time. I guess I was more focused on the crimes.

Meat, poultry, produce. Even frozen food leaves moisture which if combined with crumbs or dust makes a mess.

I typically put my meats and produce in plastic bags. And DH always turns the reusable bags upside down over the sink and shakes them out before he folds them to put them back in his car for the next trip. I’m sure they should get washed more often, but I really haven’t noticed that they are noticeably dirty. Perhaps I should take a closer look at them!

Not really. It cuts down on the number of plastic bags you’d get. In the days when stores could use plastic here, it drove DH crazy to see baggers put half a dozen items per bag. The person would leave with 10 half empty bags. Even then, DH would ask for paper and ask the bagger to pack them as full as possible. If I have the opportunity, I’ll tell. Bagger to let him pick his own bags because he’s picky about it. There’d be no problem if he’d use self check but he hates that as much as plastic bags.

I’ll be on Noom 3 weeks tomorrow and I’m down four pounds. That’s a good total for me. I’ve never been someone who has a big loss the first week but I also regain slowly as well. For now, I’m concentrating on eating more variety of healthy foods, logging them and eating on more of a schedule.

I'm using up the last of my binge food while o/w trying to stay on track. I figure by Tuesday I should be 100% back to diet food and spreadsheets.

I’ve been fairly successful this week in figuring out a plan to lose weight. I shopped for and bought some yogurt and fruits and vegetables, which I’ve not been eating enough of. I’ve been paying attention to my portion sizes and trying to drink more water. I’ve also been logging my food, which has helped me see where I still need to make changes. The scale has moved down a bit, so I think I’m on the right track. I still need to work on getting more exercise, but the foot problems are complicating that.

DH leaves tomorrow morning for a camping trip. I’m hoping to make more progress on the weight loss front while he’s gone.

Pam, you’re making good progress. And it will probably be easier being alone for a few days. You can eat when and what you want without worrying about what DH wants. Maryanne, good luck on restarting Tuesday.

I'm lucky that DH doesn't care for many of my downfalls such as ice cream and potato chips. There are a few things I never make him because I would want them (e.g. grilled cheese and hot dogs) but overall it's not too bad.

Today I'm having Medifast/Optavia. It's like packet day. The meals are mostly 110 calories with 11 grams of protein. They call them "sachets" instead of packets. I find that weird because it makes me think of perfume.

That what I think sachets are too. What types of foods do they have in those sachets? I can take or leave ice cream but I’m with you on chips, grilled cheese and hot dogs. DH isn’t crazy about hot dogs so that’s a once in a blue moon meal for me. I’ve been avoiding the chip aisle lately. I had more than my share of chips during lockdown. I’m fine if they’re not in the house. If I know we have them in the house, they call my name. And I’m the one who buys them, not DH. He can eat a handful of chips and stop. It’s a big trigger food for me.

Barbecue potato chips are my nemesis, lol. I’ve never been particularly fond of grilled cheese sandwiches, but I do like a chili dog now and then. I’m noticing on my food log that I go over my carb target every day, even though I’m keeping the calories at or below 1200 ever day. I also have been going way over on the sugar target, so I need to examine those 2 areas and see how I can modify my choices to better balance things out. There is so much hidden sugar in foods. It makes it hard to keep that goal.
