In case you can't tell the first thing I read in the Post is the political cartoons.

Hot and dry here, but it’s supposed to start cooling off next week.

It’s been a pretty boring week here. I don’t think I’ve even left my house since last Saturday when I went to my friend’s birthday dinner. I had lunch plans for today but they got postponed. I really should try to get a life, lol!

After 2 months on Noom, I’ve lost 10 pounds. Slow and steady is fine by me.

If I can lose 10 pounds over the next 2 months I'll be ecstatic.

It was actually a little chilly here this morning. I leave my house for feeding the colonies, the grocery store, the gas station, doctors, medical tests, veterinarians, hair dresser, and sometimes the post office on Sunday to mail CROM donation checks to the bank. An exciting life I lead, I tell ya!

I wonder how much longer I'll feel comfortable doing all that. Trying to get all doctor/vet visits up-to-date just in case. Tried to make a cardiology appointment for Tuffy and can't get one before FEBRUARY!!!

In 4 more days we get the new J D Robb - always exciting!

Mine will be on kindle but I actually ordered one on paper and asked it to be shipped to a friend. She doesn't seem to ever get the kindle books I have sent to her. She needs to get her new phone set up. Desperately. (She only uses the phone any more, no computer.)

She reads a lot of different stuff from me (fantasy, science fiction, historical romance) but we both share a love for J. D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts whose stuff I don't ordinarily go anywhere near).

Congrats, Helene! Ten pounds in 2 months is great!

Thanks for your support. I have a long way to go still but this is a good start for me. I’ve logged all my meals. It’s over 250 meals logged. For someone who resisted logging meals on NS, it’s pretty amazing.

I couldn’t get into the Robb books. I’m more into mysteries these days. Louise Penny has a new book out that I’m waiting for. Recently read a couple books about a female veteran with PTSB living in upstate NY with her dog Elvis. First book is A Borrowing of Bones by Paula Munier.

Helene, have you read any of the books by Estelle Ryan? I love her books. They are a mystery series about a a brilliant autistic woman named Genevieve Lenard who investigates art thefts. They should be read in order because the cast of characters grows with each book and it would be difficult to understand the relationships if you start in the middle of the series. The books are really interesting to me and I’ve actually learned a little bit (a very little bit, lol) about art through them.

I'll have to check those out!

One thing I'm trying to get to this weekend is cleaning up my kindle. I delete anything I've read off Amazon (no OCD here LOL!). And check to make sure I've got all the most recent books from my favorite authors. E.g. I'll check what's still on my kindle from Lee Child against what he's published recently and see if I'm missing anything.

I’ve just started reading the first Genevieve Ryan books on my phone. It was a free Kindle download. It’s interesting so far.

Have you signed up for Book Bub? https://www.bookbub.com/welcome

I get an email every day with reduced price and free books. I've discovered some new (to me) authors that way.

I’ve been using Book Bub for several years now. It has saved me a lot of money and, like you said, introduced me to a lot of authors I would not have found otherwise. In fact, that’s how I found the first Estelle Ryan mystery and was instantly hooked on the series.

I love the Estelle Ryan book. I wonder if she knows someone with autism. Genevieve’s behavior is very believable. Thanks for suggesting it.

Two good reviews! I've got to check this out. Of course with 20+ pages of books on my kindle I've obviously been saying that a lot. LOL!

In CROM's next newsletter I did a plug for Mary Jo Putney's contribution to a Christmas anthology (yeah, me thinking I can do publicity for a NY Times best selling author LOL!). I even ordered that (I don't normally read her stuff - or historical romance in general - but she has adopted several cats from us and I feel like I should at last read her Christmas novella.) Her cats always make an appearance in her books.

What was I smoking when I bought SUGAR FREE jello for the day before a colonoscopy.

I HATE the italian ice. I HATE the bouillon. And my jello has no calories.

    Woe is me!!! LOL!!!!

I guess I'm going to eat cough drops all day (I figure if hard candy is okay, cough drops must be, too). At least my non red cough drops have sugar in them.

LOL and my sympathies! I hate the prep for that procedure so much. I plan to refuse when my doctor tells me I need another one. I’ve now had at least 5 of them and they’ve never even found a single polyp, so I don’t really see the need for another one. I’m willing to do the Cologard test first and only if it shows something suspicious would I have another colonoscopy. I’ve tried every one of the solutions you drink with the same result. After the first glass of liquid I start gagging and/or throwing up, making it incredibly difficult to get it all down. And I’m up all night long, making me extremely exhausted the next day.

I have had polyps - and I'm determined to not die of anything preventable - so it's off I go tomorrow LOL! Hopefully it will be another 5 years.

Our doctor just uses Miralax, not a biggie to me. But I am hungry.

I’ve never been offered the Miralax option. I wouldn’t mind that. I used it while I was taking hydrocodone when I broke my ankle. Each time I’ve had a colonoscopy I was given a different solution to drink, but had the same response to all of them. Some were worse than others, but none were pleasant or easy for me to get down the hatch. Most of the time I gave up after about half of the liquid was consumed.

My biggest mistake yesterday was getting all the permitted foods in no to low calorie versions. Not bright. By last evening I was starved. I slept on the couch so I could be close to the bathroom and Tuffy, bless his heart, spent the night with me. I don't actually mind the prep too much. The miralax bottle says mix with warm water so I bypassed the first recommendation - gator ade which I hate - and just went with warm water Everyone at this center is really nice and efficient. You can't help wondering what they do if there's an issue - it's not remotely close to any hospital - but obviously they don't often have an issue or they wouldn't be able to afford the insurance premiums. I was worried, as I always am, about my blood pressure being up and having the whole thing called off, but no one said a word about my blood pressure so I guess it was okay. I had one tiny polyp so hopefully I'm done for 5 years. We got there at 9 and didn't get out until 11 so they weren't as efficient as pre COVID. They've also changed some procedures - mostly keeping family members out of the back - and not insisting your driver stay in the waiting room.

    And I SO enjoyed it!

If you've never had polyps I'd think you'd be a good candidate for Cologuard. DH wanted to do that but with his polyps and family history, the doc said don't bother.

I sort of like their new procedures. When DH goes in a couple months I'm just going to go home (we live right around the corner). We were never allowed to do that before.

Good luck with the colonoscopy . I need to schedule one before we go to FL this winter. I had a couple phone messages from the doctor’s office.

Helene, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m all caught up on the series and wishing for the next one. She typically releases about 1 book a year, so it will be awhile, I’m afraid.
