I had my annual CT scan appointment today at 10 am at a Johns Hopkins "outpost". There are 3 buildings, apparently two of them have CT scanners, and I went to the wrong one. But they saw me anyway. I was out by 10:15 and when I got home at 10:30 my results were already up on the "portal", reviewed by two doctors. I love Baltimore!
P.S. no change in my lung nodules in years and years.0 -

TPTB have lifted the recommendation against feeding the birds so I got out my feeders and started getting them ready. Then ordered a bunch more seed. I love feeding the birds!0

We are back home from visiting DH’s family in Houston. I’m glad to be home as SIL was babysitting her 2 grandkids today. The 6 year old is pretty compliant, but the 3 year old is a handful and she was in rare form this morning, so we were all too happy to finish breakfast and get on the road, lol!
Yesterday afternoon was beautiful, so we rented a pontoon boat on a nearby lake and spent a couple of hours cruising around the lake, admiring the beautiful homes. Our nephew took the 2 kids swimming for a little while while the old fogeys stayed on the boat. Afterward, we met their mom at a nearby restaurant and had dinner on the patio before returning to SIL’s house.0 -
Pam - immediately made me think of the Little Big Town song Pontoon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0O0nzkESTI
I imagine being with little kids has a finite time limit. LOL!0 -
Our pontoon was a bit more modest than the one in the video, lol! Only one level, no slide, and the bar was just an ice chest we stocked with snacks and drinks and a six-pack of beer. And we left the musicians on the dock, apparently, though my nephew is an accomplished drummer. Despite all that, it was fun but next time I’ll know what to aspire to!0

I've always enjoyed that video. I'll never be that laid back in this lifetime but I enjoy the music and ambiance.0 -

Will Lin-Manuel Miranda EGOT for Hamilton at the 2021 Emmy Awards?
Sadly, no. Even if Miranda wins for Hamilton at the Emmys tonight (MAD note: they did), the composer actually already has an Emmy award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for co-writing the song “Bigger!” with Tom Kitt for the 67th Tony Awards. Miranda also has three Grammy Awards (for In The Heights, Hamilton, and “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana), and three Tony Awards. The only award Miranda is missing is the Oscar.
Miranda came close to his EGOT dreams when “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana was nominated for an Academy Award in 2016, but it ultimately lost to “City of Stars” from La La Land. He’ll have another shot this year if In The Heights is nominated at the Oscars for Best Song, which it almost surely will be, as well as if the upcoming musical that Miranda is directing, tick, tick… BOOM! gets any Oscar love.
On top of that, Miranda also won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Hamilton in 2016, meaning that if (when) Miranda does win an Oscar, he will actually have a PEGOT. Only two artists have achieved such an accomplishment: Richard Rodgers, and Marvin Hamlisch.0 -
I’m extremely frustrated today. I’ve been to 3 different pharmacies trying to get my COVID booster shot and was turned away by all 3. Although I personally know at least 4 people who have already gotten theirs in other areas of the state, I couldn’t get mine. I was told a different reason everywhere I went. I had even made an appointment to get one at a nearby CVS using their on-line process. It didn’t ask whether I was immune compromised, but when I went to the store I was turned away and that was the reason given. I did get my flu shot, but nothing I could say persuaded them to give me the booster. I didn’t want to lie and claim to be immune compromised but that may be the only way to get one at this point. I really wanted to get it today because 2 weeks from today I’ll be visiting my cousin who is severely immune compromised. I wanted to take every precaution I can to ensure that I don’t bring anything into his home that could be dangerous for him.0
-
Pam - I wondered if there was any way to get one at this point. It's a shame there isn't because right now the pharmacies around here are empty!0
-
I saw on the news today that the FDA is ready to recommend boosters for people over 60 and immune compromised people. So you should be able to get a booster soon.0
-
It’s easier to get a Pfizer booster right now since the only requirement is to be over 65 but I need to get a Moderna booster. Timing is an issue for me because I am going to be visiting my severely immunocompromised cousin in 2 weeks from yesterday. I wanted to get the booster 2 weeks before my visit to ensure maximum protection for him as well as myself. One of the pharmacists I spoke with yesterday suggested that I just get a Pfizer booster but I don’t want to mix and match them, plus the Pfizer vaccines are harder to find due to the refrigeration requirements. Fewer places offer it than the other 2 vaccines. I think I will try again today and just claim to be immunocompromised. I don’t feel good about lying to get it, but under the circumstances, I feel like it’s my only choice.0

I need Pfizer but couldn't get it right now. CDC needs to act and then Governor Hogan will need to act.

Went to the car parts store colony today to try out my new pruning saw. A huge tree fell down over there and they haven't moved it. We're actually glad. But I do want to make a wider path to the food/water bowls. The path drops off on the right down a steep hill. I can just see one of us tumbling down the hill in a rainstorm or snow storm. (Probably me me. LOL!) I got quite a good start on widening the path. Stopped because I could feel a blister forming on my thumb. Note to self: hmm, that's why DH has so many pairs of gloves, "borrow" a pair before going back to it
I'm still trying to get back on track. Boy, do I feel like an addict some days. Having "packet day" today, starting with high protein oatmeal for breakfast and chicken alfredo for lunch.0 -
Maryanne, have you tried to register for the Pfizer vaccine? I registered at CVS yesterday and Walgreens today. Both seemed to offer all 3 vaccines, though not at all locations. As they explained to me yesterday, if you are over 65, you qualify now for the Pfizer booster.0
-
Success! I got my vaccine booster shot this afternoon. I claimed my SIL’s health conditions of rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and diabetes and was able to get the shot. There seems to be an abundance of shots available in my area, so I didn’t feel too guilty about it. If the vaccine was in short supply I would not have done it.0

Late last evening I heard breaking news that the FDA had approved Pfizer boosters for 65+. I haven't looked into whether we need the governor to act. I also haven't dug into whether they are still saying 8 months. DH and I will be at the 8-month mark at the end of November. I wish I could get DH to figure this out during all his free time. LOL!0 -
I just tried to set up a vaccination appointment on the Walgreen's web site
I said I wasn't immunocompromised and it wouldn't let me go any farther.0 -
Maryanne, all of this booster information is very confusing. In some parts of Texas, they are giving the boosters out, no questions asked. My sister, BIL and niece all got theirs 3 weeks ago with no need to prove eligibility because their county health department has more vaccine than they can use. It’s a county with a very low vaccination rate. In Houston, my SIL got hers 3 weeks ago with no problems, but she does have 3 immunocompromising diagnoses. And here where I live, as I’ve described, I had to jump through a lot of hoops and ultimately lie to get one. It seems like the message around the boosters is changing daily. At first the recommendation was that a booster was advisable after 8 months, but now I’m hearing after 6 months. And it makes no sense to me that different states seem to have different rules about who is eligible or when.
I was expecting to not feel very good after my booster, but so far I’m feeling fine. My arm isn’t even very sore. I did what a friend told me she did after her second dose, which was to come home and lift some weights with the affected arm right after getting the shot, and it seems to have worked. I recall that my arm was very sore after my first and second shots. I also didn’t feel good after my second dose, and so far everyone I know who has had a booster felt bad afterward if they felt bad after the second dose. I’m very glad that I’m not feeling any side effects!0 -
DH says the CDC is meeting again today so we may have more information. He's reading your immune system has to have "matured" before you get the booster. I guess we'll see what the CDC comes out with.0

Looks like I didn’t escape some side effects after all. About 25 hours after I got the booster I started feeling chilled, then hot, achy, and slightly upset tummy. And I’ve had a headache all day. I’m going to take some drugs and go to bed in a few minutes and hope I can sleep it off.0

Well, drat, sorry about that!0 -
Okay, the CDC approved Pfizer boosters for 6 months. Guess what? For me six months is today!!!! The question is how soon pharmacies will start doing it.0
