Let’s hope the county can connect your friend with the services she needs.

MIL is moving tomorrow. DH can’t go until Sunday, so SIL will bear the brunt of her anger. SIL made the decision to go ahead and do it tomorrow without consulting DH, so that’s the consequence. I’m not surprised that she’s doing it this way. She tends to be very impulsive and once she makes up her mind, it’s full speed ahead. DH will go down there Sunday and hang pictures and any other chores that need to be done. SIL hired movers to take care of actually moving her things, so that won’t be an issue. The facility offered her what they call a companion room for the same price as one of the others she had viewed earlier. This room is close to the same size as the one she is currently in, so that means she will be able to keep more of her furnishings. Hopefully she will feel less deprived if she can keep more of her familiar things around her.

I'm sorry for your SIL. It's amazing that DH and I missed all this. Thankful both for our parents - who missed those horrible stages - and for us.

I spent much of yesterday trying to get medical care, with varying degrees of success.

8 am - voice therapy - last session for now

8:45-11 - sat outside in my car in the baking sun at an urgent care place - hoping to see someone - thought I had a UTI - finally had to leave

(Someone told me some urgent care places now are doing appointments; now they tell me; but it's good info for the future)

1:30 - Green Spring Station - glaucoma specialist - still just "suspicion of" - I'm no eye doctor but methinks the "suspicion of" has worn thin but I'm too chicken to call an end to it

4 - called my internist's office about ordering labwork

    What a day!

About 7 pm I started feeling normal - fell asleep on the couch around 8 - moved to a bed around 10:30 - got up at 7 - feel fine

Went out and fed the colonies - got home to a message that they'd called in lab order

There's a Lab Corp near me, they had an 11:15 appointment, so I went ahead and made it in case feeling better is temporary - figured can't hurt. I had to fill in all my medical info online. What do you want to bet they still insist on my cards.

    Whew!

All these non vax people should be shut out of medical care - if even here in Maryland medical care is getting hard to get...........

What a sweet thing to do for their beloved pet! I’m glad they were able to make it happen.

Maryanne, I’m sorry you had such a difficult day! I hope your lab results don’t show any issues and you continue to feel better.

Mary Jo Putney has adopted several cats from us. Historical romance is SO not my thing (and Mary Jo knows that) but for some reason I enjoy her Christmas stories. The one for this year is in the anthology Yuletide Kiss. It features her cat Princess Flufferbella. Here's the "real" Princess Flufferballa.

Today I’m starting my driving tour of the south, so my posts may be more sporadic for awhile. Stay safe and well, my friends!

    Enjoy!

When my brother moved to Arizona I told him to enjoy the trip and see things. Instead I think he just raced across on freeways.

I think this is just one of those weeks.

Hospitalized friend is home, debating whether clinical trial is worth continuing given the side effects. Her doctor says yes. I haven't heard what the actual trial is recommending.

Another friend, morbidly obese and with major hoarding issues, wasn't answering her phone. Friend called a neighbor who went over and found her on the floor Two men couldn't lift her.
Firemen were called who chain sawed a huge hole in the house to get her out and to the hospital, putting up house condemned signs. (The chain saw gets me a little - I mean I've watched many episodes of 600-lb life and never once seen that need to be done - I'm wondering if men just like doing that kind of thing.) We think we're going to hear she had a second, much worse, stroke. Time will tell. The love of her life is a CROM cat (permanent foster) named Bertie. With the house condemned, likely she'll never be able to have Bertie again. Right now Bertie is safe if not happy. What's ironic is all the "stuff" this woman cherished are no doubt all going to be tossed (including everything she spent a year recovering from her mother's house after her mother's death (mom was also a hoarder)).

Anyway that's life here right now. I really wish I could pick up the phone and call my sister!!

Had my Medicare Wellness check up Thursday. It went very well. I mentioned I’m doing Noom and she was interested to hear the details. She actually wrote Noom in my record. She wants me to walk 3 times a week. I’ll have work on that. She told me I don’t look 72 and I told her I’m 73 on Monday. It’s always nice to hear you’ve aged well. I have fair skin so I limited time in the sun from my 20’s and never smoked. I have to get some labs done to compare with last years numbers. My BP was good and my cholesterol was great.

Well, friend did have a stroke. Worse than her first one. Last we heard she was still in the emergency room while they looked for a hospital bed Then she'll be headed to rehab where hopefully they can get her in good enough shape for assisted living at best or nursing home at worst. I talked to another friend last night who reminded me I predicted this is how this long sad saga would end this way months ago. For once, I'm sorry I was right. Her best friend is taking point with the hospital; her SIL (who is a retired emergency room nurse) is taking point with the social worker I've got the names of her friends/family in the CROM data base so I'll take charge of notifying people once she's somewhere she can receive visitors (is that possible yet? I guess we'll find out) and/or receive cards/flowers. I'll offer them an email address in case they want to keep in touch with us. Her cat will ultimately be the responsibility of the volunteer who initially rescued her.

Sad that this is what it took to get her back in PT. A year ago she was doing SO well with PT and then she stopped and her condition deteriorated badly. Turns out all the well meaning friends in the world can't make someone do anything they are determined not to do. It was been obvious for some time that her mental issues were beyond our capabilities. We kept proposing logical solutions to issues and being puzzled when she would do nothing. It seemed like she wanted to be taken care of like a child. I guess now that's what she'll get. As someone said yesterday, it's probably not going to be as fun as she imagined.

What a sad outcome. You’re right about not being able to help someone who rejects the help. At least her cat will be cared for.

Apparently last night friend was moved to rehab. The initial effects of the stroke seem to have dissipated a lot. She is not paralyzed. Has a numb left foot and mixes up words. They believe she'd been having a series of mini strokes.

I doubt she knows at this point that her house has been deemed uninhabitable. Certainly she doesn't have the money to fix it. I still suspect she'll end up in a nursing home or assisted living. Unfortunately it will be a cheap one.

A gloomy, gray day here in Baltimore. I'm making a concerted effort to get back on the diet food and do my spreadsheets.

Meyer has guided the team to an 0-4 start in his NFL debut season and did not fly back with the Jaguars after Thursday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

(From an article about him getting caught in some questionable behavior but not getting fired.)

HUH? I could guide a team to an 0-4 start.

We had a gray day here as well after a few days of rain and drizzle. We,d planned to go out to lunch to celebrate my birthday Monday but the weather was miserable so we decided to delay. Today was supposed to be nice but that didn’t happen so we’re planning to go tomorrow. The place we’re going has an outdoor patio overlooking the water. The menu is heavy on seafood which is alright by me.

Menu heavy on seafood pretty much describes any restaurant in Baltimore that's not fast food. LOL!

Beautiful sunshine here today. I just got back from the grocery store! I'm starting to see some maskless folks which doesn't amuse me.

It was 3:30 by the time we arrived at the restaurant. We decided to have an early dinner. I had pistachio crusted salmon and DH ordered swordfish. My portion was huge so I brought half home. It was the nicest day of the week. DH requested an outdoor table while I was in the restroom and was told outside was a 30 minute wait. He waited to ask me and we were considering inside when the hostess came back she said she had a high top table outside. We walked out with her when I spotted a regular table on the lower deck that was empty. I asked her about that table and she said it just needed to be cleaned off. She immediately went down to do that so we ended up with a great table with a view.

First thing this morning I got a call from the colony friend - she was headed back to the hospital. I had to scramble around and shower so I could head out to feed, and then head to the dentist for a cleaning. On the way home from the dentist I had to stop and pick up an antibiotic prescription.

For some reason in the last year or so my dentist has been chatty. He got to talking today - gist of the conversation was that every group and every family seems to have one person who basically takes on everything and keeps everyone going. He's had two friends lately who were that person who admitted to him they were breaking - a revelation which obviously left him reeling. I got to thinking about that conversation on my drive home. I'm admittedly that person in my family and also in my friend group. We haven't found my breaking point yet but I can see how we could. Then I got home and DH was "stressing" over some coin purchase or other. Sorry, dear, no sympathy today.
