Amazing job on the steps and exercise this week after what sounds like a rough one work wise... hopefully the next week allows for more work/life balance for you.

This past week's been a bit tough. I was nursing some really harsh glute muscle pain for the first half of the week, so my exercise routine was severely affected by that. No Zumba and no Epic. However, I did start to improve mid week and managed to go out for a 3 hour walk on Friday. That was very satisfying. But my food intake has been good and I've managed to up my average hours' sleep at night.
Glad things are looking up - sounds like you made some smart choices at the start of the week to let yourself heal up a bit.
Long walks do have a way of satisfying, totally agree. I also love the feeling of covering a long distance on foot... a great accomplishment for sure!3 -
Today is the chilliest day we have had here in a LONG time... it was kind of refreshing! Plus, decent air quality today, so that was an added bonus.
We got up early at the lake, packed up, and drove back to meet two sets of friends and their children for coffee and a visit. By 11, we were done, and off to entertain ourselves. We had a pair of shorts to pick up that Brad bought second hand a community over from ours (Brad sized down... so fun!), so rather than drive we hopped on our bikes and from there we continued on. 22KM later or so and we were back home. Stopped for a walk midway as well.
Noticing in general now we choose to walk or ride versus drive if we can. It's fun to combine our daily exercise and our errands. We live in a very suburban place that has great pathways but we also have lots of urban sprawl so it's not like everything is super close either - but at the same time we can bike one corner of our city to the other... so as long as we have the time, anything is reachable by bike.
Time to go be lazy for the rest of the day... back to work tomorrow after holidays last week, trying to resist the impending feeling of dread4 -

Doesn't it ever? I'm back at kettlebell stuff, and dang - it feels amazing. This is seriously inspiring me to bring my bike home from my son's place and starting from here. He lives in the nearby village where there is a great bike trail. But leaving from here would mean the car stayed home, and there would be a bit more hilly stuff to go through. Hmmmm.....3 -

I'm not too surprised - between yesterday's salt intake, a faster run and my overeat on Saturday, I was already expecting a small gain this week. BUT it is a small gain, I saw lower numbers on the scale during the week so all good. I have noticed that there can be a discrepancy between what Garmin and MFP have listed for my daily weight, but I think it's a rounding issue, and I always go off MFP for weigh ins.
We've done the running analysis this morning and it was very useful. Three things jumped out; 1) I need to run in a lower heart rate zone (I spend most of my runs in z4/z5), 2) I land on my heel and we want a flatter landing as that may have contributed to previous knee pain, and 3) I should be picking up my knees more for a better range of movement on the hip flexors. This is good because we weren't really finding much wrong in the gym, but whilst there's no issue per se, it gives us something to work on. C will do a more detailed analysis, then next week we're going to put together a program including warm up/cool down routines because I tend to skip those.
The rest of today will be work and then we've no plans this evening, but as the weather looks reasonable, we might get out for a walk. I haven't got a specific plan for lunch so perhaps a banana or tuna and cucumber sandwich, and tea is a Tandoori chicken curry - need to make the curry paste and marinade the chicken at lunch.3 -
Greetings! I haven't seen the beach yet, but intend to soon. I can however see the river. The first day and a half was rainy.
Eating at my son's was challenging because 1) he likes to eat out or get take out, 2) there is little food in the house (is he my child?). Yesterday my hubby and I went and got some food at the grocery store. I made dinner the last two nights. We have been eating late, but it will have to be ok. I haven't been logging everything, but I did log yesterday and it was lower than I imagined. However, I topped the night off with "Milk Birthday Cake" ice cream to celebrate my son's 30th birthday. That ice cream is definitely a RED light food. I could eat the whole pint!!!! But it's gone now and no more temptation.
I rolled out my mat this morning and did 17 minutes of Pilates. His two kittens enjoyed that a lot. LOL
So, all in all, not great, but not awful either. I plan to go for a walk after we drop my son off at the airport.

It was nice having yogurt for breakfast and a peach later in the day but the move away from keto has me feeling very irritable today. The family has also confirmed that I am a grump. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!4

Week 1 steps/exercise -
Looking for @micki48 (8/1-8/7.. think you were starting this week ) and @Kali225 (8/2-8/7)
If you can get those numbers to me by tomorrow, that'd be great
Happy 30th to your son @micki48 ... looks like you're in a beautiful place
@gak71 your post definitely made me chuckle - we all deserve a few grumpy days as we transition to a new way of eating hoping for a better tomorrow for you as well
@DD265 sounds like you're really honing things in there with your running analysis.. can't wait to hear how it all pans out!
Day one back to work KICKED MY BUTT!!!! Luckily I listened to my early alarm and between a pre-work and a lunchtime walk, my steps for today will be A-OK. Might try to fit in a quick yoga session yet tonight, but if that fails, I'll make sure I do my minimum 5 minute stretch to keep myself green on the habit tracker.
Hope everyone else's Monday treated them ok.3 -
I think today was 3 days long.
There were many long bits of time trying to get through to my mother's bank so that I can have electronic access on our joint accounts while living in another country. When I got through to them, I had to keep calling my mom for more information, and then - well, you know. The monster back and forth. I feel like I'm trying to set up a money laundering operation on the Isle of Man or something.
Then there was a bunch of time as unskilled labour helping the taller half work on our front porch which is now demolished but the re-framing is proving difficult due to stuff I don't understand or really need to know. I am good at the "hold this here" and "move that stuff over there" but not so good on the comprehension of why things are so messed up...
Then I had a fabulous physio/osteo session to work on my wonky hip and that was divine.
Then there was all the garden work that had been put off until after supper.
In between there somewhere, one of our dear Moderators here on F2F is going through a tough time and needs to take a break from that job, so yikes, we need to figure that out.
So it's Wednesday, right? Can I share a peach with you @gak71? We can be grumpy? Or can I hang out on the beach with you @micki48 ? That looks gorgeous. In any case, it has been quite the day. Not great food, but not bad. Missed my kettlebell workout, but will keep on first thing tomorrow. Did the Pilates, at least. Phew!
Thanks for listening - I'm feeling better now.5 -

Feeling like a strong August is upon us as well. For those of you who find summer harder than winter, what tactics are you employing to help yourself grab success out of the last of what's left of summer (don't worry - there's still plenty of it!!! I know the W word is traumatic for some or exciting if you're @jugar)2 -

My youngest starts his junior year of high school tomorrow and my daughter heads back to college on Friday. My tactic to salvage the rest of August will be getting back in to a routine! I find summer more difficult because we travel and always have a full house.3 -
Wow that was a close one!
I am not sure I find summer harder than winter generally, but I am finding re-opening harder than lockdown/increased restrictions in many respects and that's where the UK is right now. We're arranging more social engagements and those engagements tend to be centred around at least one meal out. I think OH's job change is looming over me a bit as well, so whilst I'm emotionally eating within my goals and still heading in the right direction, it's a struggle to not eat my exercise calories. Plus we're busy pretty much every weekend now which is a bit stressful but we're trying to squeeze everybody/thing in. I think my focus is more on the future (OH's job change) than the present which probably isn't helping.
I am trying to plan more stir fry meals into our week as these are typically low in calories. This means I have room for snacks and it's easier to not eat exercise calories. I've also picked my cross stitch back up after a couple of months not doing any, because if my hands are busy they can't feed me.4 -
As I eat a little zucchini (or a lot) with every meal right now as they all ripen in the garden, I remember back to the supper when I was still in the single digits, sobbing because I didn't want to eat the one slice of zucchini on my plate that I had to try5

This month I am fully focused on my training for the 25K London Bridges Trek that I will be doing in September. I'm also keen to continue with my Epic workouts and fit all of this around work. I love summer as I get to spend so much more time outside.4 -
Tuesday Weigh-In

I did consider asking to sit this week out a few days ago, since I knew it wouldn't be too pretty today - I was on vacation Friday through Monday, visiting friends, but hey. Facing the music! This is the highest number I have seen on the scale in quite some time. Very much a wake-up call day. I was also very behind on reading this thread, and on journaling, and all other things (partially the point of a vacation, but still).
One fun thing on the vacation - my friend and I took an intro to pole dancing class! It was HARD but so fun. My arms and obliques are still feeling it and that was 3 days ago!
Today has been really on target for food - the first time in quite a while, too. Feels good. I have to hang ON to this feeling. I am going to do some yoga once I log off work here, but not pushing to get in a workout. I guess I have the "get the weight loss going with just food choices and then add exercise in" approach on the mind today.
Anecdotal observation: When I got back to my apartment yesterday afternoon, I had been gone for almost 7 weeks (working from NY for all of July+). I discovered that there had been some kind of water leak in my bedroom ceiling right onto my bed! Whatever it was dripped through all the layers of my bedding to the mattress protector and left a vaguely brown ringed stain on everything. Bummer, huh? Well, after unpacking my very full car and luggage, I started doing about 3 loads of laundry, planning meals, and going grocery shopping, all after a 5 hour drive to start the day. And even though I was getting hungry once I shopped, I 1. didn't cave to shoving a bunch of snacks in my cart and 2. wasn't focused on that hunger. What I think I was noticing is that when I am really busy and focused, especially with something physical to do with my hands like laundry and putting clothes and books away, I only get hungry at a "normal person" time, i.e. meals. I had a delicious dinner (it was takeout, and I'm sure it contributed to some bloat at today's weigh-in, but hey. I was having a DAY. )
All that to say, I think once I am past this big exam at the end of August, I should try some new hobbies to keep myself busy when not working. I think it could help me avoid binges.

You said the W word!!! I'm wagging my tail. OK - the warm days are great, and now that the nights are cooler, I'm OK with it. Today was some HEAVY work - wheelbarrows full of heavy silty black stuff from our drained pond up to fill some holes in the orchard and to add to the compost heap. Our wheelbarrow has wooden handles made by my taller half who has hands the size of grizzly paws, so wheeling ridiculously heavy stuff uphill from the pond was my major strength challenge today. Got it done! That was some great shower afterwards.
I'm finding that hiking and going places to hike are camp are just not on the agenda right now, though. There is a lot to do here, and plenty of trails on our land for daily short hikes, but I do miss longer hikes with camping. Hoping to get some of that in over the next month or two before it gets too cold.3 -

Holy moly that is coming up fast! What a great 25k that is going to be - you are going to have a blast. As I eat a little zucchini (or a lot) with every meal right now as they all ripen in the garden, I remember back to the supper when I was still in the single digits, sobbing because I didn't want to eat the one slice of zucchini on my plate that I had to try
The Story of the Sad Zucchini! It is amazing. I remember the first time I could stand to eat cauliflower - my grandmother made a beautiful cauliflower au gratin and practically had to force me to try it. I was so blown away by how wonderful it was I will never forget it! Kids and veg. We used to blindfold our daughter to eat stir fry - she loved all those veggies, but did not like to look at them. Go figure.
@Kali225
Pole dancing is crazy amazing fitness - I am always amazed at the strength it takes. I took a couple of classes for fun many years ago, and it was intense. So dance to the music you are facing! You'll get back on track, I'm sure. I like your observations about intention, keeping busy, shopping, eating - it is all information, as @micki48 says. Stick with the things that work best for you.3 -

Loved reading everyone's plans to end the last bit of summer on a strong note! I think this summer has been good to Brad and I in terms of us really finding outdoor activities we love, and also just having the extra time to work out that isn't being spent commuting to downtown Calgary and back.
We have already started to talk about plans to adjust when we return to office next month and when the weather isn't as friendly to us. We will have to be more strategic with our time and planning.

Kids and veg.
Not just veg - some of my favourite meals as an adult are things I wouldn't try as a child. I still won't eat cheese though
Went running last night and had set my Garmin to keep me in heart rate zone 3. The Garmin worked well, but actually staying in that zone was HARD. I'm not sure if the standard-calculated zones are too low for me and should be changed (my max heart rate of the last 12 months being 199, the calculated one being 187), or whether I just need to get used to it. Also, there seems to be a conflict between keeping my heart rate low and running with my knees picked up more so not sure how I'm going to balance that one. Will try again tomorrow.
My little pleasure of this morning has been going from the kitchen to the herb planter next to our front door for some fresh coriander. Fresh herbs seem so much fresher when they come from the garden rather than the fridge. I've got 'Oriental Pork' in the slow cooker, using star anise which is an ingredient I've not cooked with before. It smelled lovely, and when I added two stars and crushed dried chillies to the chicken stock, I briefly fancied that I was brewing a potion! We like to try a new recipe each week and I thought it would be good to expand our slow cooker repertoire.
When I went downstairs to get a drink and put the food in the slow cooker, my trip turned into get a drink, put the food in the slow cooker, feed the cats biscuits, feed the wild birds, clean and top up the bird bath and make a mental note of 5+ things that should be done this evening. How I ever have time to work, I don't know. If I were in the office, those things wouldn't be nagging at me so I think that is a positive @ashleycarole865
