It's a chilly one today. I stood outside briefly whilst the new freezer was delivered and it felt very fresh (in a good way!) but that's less fun inside when you're stuck behind a desk. I've put the heating on for the first time since Spring, if we ignore the plumber's test when the boiler was changed.
@eggfreak, @jugar, we're also guilty of cycling through the same recipes. Before summer we were quite good at trying something new once a week (almost always on a weekend) but because we had a busy social life that went by the by. I have a new air fryer cook book downstairs that I've not looked through, plus OH bought us ~40 cook books on HumbleBundle - I'd share the link but it's finished unfortunately. Finding recipes to try, and actually cooking them, are two very different things of course!
Went running yesterday... Was great to catch up with my friend as we hadn't run together all month, and we did a full 10K without stopping. Changed the route slightly to incorporate an extra hill at the beginning, rather than running round the village at the end. Somehow, we came in at only 21 seconds slower than my 10K PB. It wasn't really hard, but I could tell I hadn't done a run like that in months - over the summer we were stopping regularly for a drink even if we did the distance - and I need to re-condition my feet and legs to that amount of concussion. I'm not going to specifically aim for the next run this week to be a 10k because it took a lot out of me. I might be dead on my feet today, but I'm dead chuffed, too.6 -

Just read an article last night about high glycemic foods - I don't think I've ever seen this subject before...to do with carbohydrates, sugars spikes and how it all reacts in cells and hunger pangs... Anyhow, here I was feeling good about my oatmeal but now know that the instant oats, which are so quick and easy, are high gylcemic whereas if I switch to steel cut oats it would be much better. Will give it a go and see if I feel any different...more satiated?5 -

I feel stuck at this weight. My first goal has always been 143. I will reach that goal by the end of the month. I am going to sit down this weekend and make a 2 week meal plan without pasta and bread. I want make a plan for the entire family. I usually make a plan with a pizza or spaghetti night and then I plan to eat something different, and then don't. This time, I am going to focus on healthy family recipes that we can all enjoy.7 -

Excellent weigh-ins! @eggfreak with a solid 1 pound per week for the month, @ashleycarole86 with a whopping 11 pounds for the month, @KellyBgetsfit hanging in there is better than gaining, right?
If you have gained this month, right now is the perfect time to learn from those numbers, figure out what you could work on in October, and make a plan. It does not have to be perfection! Just pick something doable, and try to stick with it for more days than you don't.
The glycemic index is a great guide to what might cause cravings, fluctuations, elevated heart rate, etc. Thanks for the reminder about that @eggfreak - keep us posted on what feels different about steel cut oats. They are also quite processed, but lower on the index for sure. Personally, I find all oats give me the racing heart for an hour or so and I keep away from them except on the coldest mornings of mid-winter.
I'm looking forward to re-calibrating in October as well. I'll be back on the regular team for at least one month since I have gone over the top of my "goal zone" range for 2 weeks in a row. That kicks me back into the regular team until it is gone! I am aiming to get much closer to the bottom of my 5-pound range before heading back to maintenance. I have been very sloppy for the past couple of months, and it shows

Wow @eggfreak , @KellyBgetsfit , and @ashleycarole86 , those are some great losses!
I'm struggling a bit, trying to balance working full time, school, the gym, and eating healthy. I find the healthy eating is the first ball to drop. The covid situation where I'm living is spiralling out of control. So my brain keeps going to those quick solutions - eat the delicious bad food that'll give me that quick hit of dopamine. I'd rather turn to the gym but my body is already falling apart - injuries and genetics have led to arthritis that is flaring up in my hands especially (I'm only in my early thirties!). So when I exercise, I do get those endorphins, but then I also get pain that really drags my mood down. So I turn to food.
I guess I'm just really tired and tired of being in pain. And I'm trying not to think of weight-loss as a battle but it seems like I'm always fighting it and myself. Which is discouraging because I'm already so tired 😩. But my contract is down at the end of October (which I'm actually very sad about), so things will change then.6 -
Hi WA's You have another new member heading your way ... Please welcome @mocchaeyes79613

Following @KellyBgetsfit 's lead, I pulled out the cookbooks today. Making a meal plan for all of October, which is very goal-focused - I have 30 days until my birthday, and I feel my 20s flying by! (I'll be 27). What kind of gift can I craft for MYSELF in terms of health in the next 30 days?
Some things on the recipe list - homemade pico de gallo with scrambled eggs and avocado for lunch, an amazing Caesar salad recipe with kale that my sister made a few weekends ago, slow cooker spanish meatballs, and my absolute favorite fall food - maple-roasted squash salad with apple, walnuts, and sage. Going to be lots of calorie math for the new items but I am very excited by this growing list.
@jugar @micki48 @DD265 thanks for the support/notes on the yo-yoing. I really want to get the shed going, and I can very clearly point to food choices for why that is NOT happening. I think I am going to try to go no-exercise aside walking for the the first 2 weeks of Oct and purely focus on intake.
On a random note, I am vaguely considering a half marathon in the spring of 2022. I can't tell you where this thought came from. But it is there.6 -

Welcome @mocchaeyes7961 - this is a great team! Good to see another person weighing in on a Monday too; there aren't so many of us who choose that day.
Our new freezer is in situ and turned on to cool down. I will transfer some bits from the fridge-freezer after work so it's not empty, and then let the batch cooking commence. First on the list are two soups; roasted sweet potato and carrot, and spicy Moroccan lamb. I'm not sure which is my favourite, though one is considerably cheaper to make between the lamb and saffron in the latter! We're having spaghetti bolognese for tea and I don't have enough large pans to cook all three at once so will have to choose...6 -
Welcome to the team @mocchaeyes7961 .. looking forward to having you!
Ok, loving all the cookbook and meal prep talk guys... sounds like a cozy up under the blankets to plan type of activity. You're inspiring me to do the same!3 -

Well, it's the last day of September already and I'm ready to make a plan for October so I can get below 180 again.
My food choices haven't been as veggie oriented and I can really tell that I'm more bloated, even if not heavier (yet).
I'll write more tomorrow when I have a little more time in the morning.
Rabbit, rabbit!

Woohoo! Thursday evening already here. It's dark out. It's been quite chilly, the wood stove is making us all toasty, and soup is definitely high on the meal planning list. My soups tend to have really original names - green soup (zucchini, spinach, dill, ginger), orange soup (red lentils, sweet potato, carrots, fresh turmeric, ginger), mishmash (brown or green lentils, carrots, any vegetable you can chop up fine and hide from your children like cabbage, onions, then season with whatever you're in the mood for). I love cold weather, so soup season is my fave!
Welcome @mocchaeyes7961 - tell us a bit about yourself, and dive right in. It might take a bit of time to get to know everyone, but we're thrilled to have you here. Your name and where you live are great to have if you're willing to share those, but whatever you want to get ready to start "officially" on Sunday - tell us where you are and what you'd like to try to get things moving. And questions are welcome!
I have some tunes to learn for a weekend trying to think up cool ideas for collaboration, so I'll be quick! Just a heads up for everyone.
OK, a warning.
Tallies will be done VERY VERY early on Sunday morning - so don't be late with this week's weigh-ins, OK? Don't bust your timing!

@ashleycarole86 so funny you would say cozy up under the blankets activity! I just got into bed (it's 7:45pm here, am I turning 27 or 72?) and it's actually chilly tonight! I am SO EXCITED. I might need my extra blanket! And I have about 3 days worth of holes in the meal calendar so a bit more work to do tonight.
Happy to report that it was a very on-target day for eating and exercise. Getting the ball rolling, inch by inch.
and welcome @mocchaeyes7961 !!6 -
@jugar my starting weight for October will be 196. Pretty happy, as that's just 1lb over my maintenance range I set of 190-195lbs when I began this journey over a year ago and actually reached 5 months ago. I managed to maintain without logging while we were so busy but as soon as things slowed down, the portion sizes and takeout creeped back up to kick me back above my comfort zone.
I'm going to be setting a new goal to get to 175lbs which I haven't seen since high school. It will probably take another year to get there as there will need to be serious discipline involved. Hubby has IBS and is triggered by nearly any vegetable, so high volume/low calorie eating is very difficult in this house. I love soups/stews but like others have said, it's hard not to accompany it with some delicious bread and butter!
New recipes are so fun, I'd love that morrocan lamb soup recipe @DD265, Lamb is my absolute favorite.

Can’t believe how quickly this week flew by. Tomorrow is weigh in and I have no idea where I am. I’m feeling much better from my 2 shots. My daughter got hers today.
Started the day with about 20 minutes of Pilates. Then took a leisurely walk for about 28 minutes to look for decorations. Met a sweet dog.
Logged all my food. It was under. A Few salty items- pork roll at lunch. It’s a New Jersey thing!
Congratulations on the great losses all. Love the soup talk and meal planning. Not sure I could map out a whole month, but a week maybe. I did happen to make broth today so perhaps soup tomorrow. It’s still warm here, but I love soup anytime.
Off to bed. See you tomorrow.5 -
CW - 190.2 lbs. I wasn't expecting to lose anything since I have been eating at maintenance for a week now. From Monday onwards, I will go back to eating at a deficit.8
