Barb, Shaun is our son and Inara is his 2yo daughter. They are here now but went for a ride in the golf cart to see our caravan. The cart can only take 2 adults. So 'Poppy' Colin took them. Unfortunately there are troubles at Shaun's house. He and wife Yolanda (Yo) bought a house and renovated it with Yo's parents. The in laws are causing problems and it isn't a good place for any of them to be.

Shaun and Yo want to sell the house and split the profits so the in laws will live somewhere else. That means they will all live elsewhere. Shaun brings Inara here to have a break from the tensions as the in laws are at home most days. They have booked a mediation session to get everything out in the open and work out some kind of agreement. It's sad that things have gone so far but we have to work with what we have.

Yo is working 6 days a week. She would like to work less, so if they sold the house maybe she wouldn't need to work so many days either as they could pay off their debts. They do need money to buy another house though so that part might not work out.

Barb - our weather is getting colder also. Tonight it is supposed to be 17F (C). We did not have the wind that we were expecting today but they may have had it higher in the mountains. They were afraid of avalanches that can be very dangerous. Spiral hams are really nice when in a hurry. The slices are all the save size and they have a pretty design on them where the machine cut them. We do not get them very often because they have a high sugar content that affects Glenn's blood sugars. Rather then being a diabetic and having high blood sugars, his body produces too much insulin when he eats sugar and he has very low blood sugars as a result.

Susan - that is interesting that Colin's body changes every few years. The aging process does affect us in all areas. Thank-you for the update on Joe and Eileen. I pray for her as caregiving can take a lot of effort at her age. I am so glad she is able to do it for him. Can you share what kind of cancer she has? I love their mantra. That is a great positive attitude for life! Happy New Year to you tomorrow. Will you do something special? WE usually stay up until after midnight and toast with sparkling cider. Glenn may not be able to stay up so late but my daughter and granddaughter are also night owls so we for sure will be awake at midnight.

Judith - Yes I do read what you post as devotionals. I may not get to them every day but enjoy them often. They are so relatable to what we all go through.

Tomorrow we will start packing to go back to Grand Junction. Our daughter went back to work today with virtual clients and is pretty tired but I think she did well for being only one week after surgery. I have 14 things on my to-do list. I may have to prioritize them and leave some off the list. We will see how much I can get done tonight. We are putting away our Christmas decorations tonight since we do not know when we will be back and our daughter is not supposed to be lifting anything more than 10# so she can not help. This is the earliest we have taken down the tree in many years. When we get back to Grand Junction, we will need to take our tree down too but we may wait a few days to do it.

Barb, I have had and baked all kinds of Ham and my Kids always requested Scalloped Potatoes. I made the scalloped potatoes in a 9x13 Pyrex pan. Served the family with leftovers. A side of veggies or a green salad and dinner buns rounds out the meal. Hope the suggestions have helped? Thank you for letting me know you are leaning towards buying the ESV Bible translation as your Pastor uses that one. It should make it easier to follow along at Church when your Pastor preaches and reads from it. Hope you enjoy your family visit and the temps are not too cold.

Susan, the Study Bible you spoke about is what we call here as the Thompson Chain Reference Bible. When I taught a young girls group called the Missionette’s and all the Leaders were required to use the Thompson Chain Bible as we could do Word Studies and other Theme Studies easier as we followed the theme right through the entire Bible. I still have mine complete with covers ripped and frayed and back cover gone but I can still use it when preparing a Study. Thank you for letting me know about how Joe and Eileen are doing. That’s wonderful he played the harmonica on Sunday for the congregation. Happy to hear that Joe and Eileen have such a cheerful attitude as having Jesus in their lives and leaving each day in the Hands of God makes one cheerful and at Peace as Joe and Eileen know when this life is over they have an Eternal Home with Jesus in Heaven. Praise God! Will keep Eileen in prayer for continued strength as she is Joe’s care giver. I am praying for Colin that his Blood Sugars will regulate and he will be able to manage the levels better.

Prayers are with you all. Hard to believe that tomorrow is the last day of 2024!

Will be posting new Team Challenges tomorrow, for January 2025! Happy New Year 2025! 🙏❤️

    Happy new year Susan.
Thank you for explaining Shaun & Indra. Sorry about my confusion
Prayers they can sell & maybe in-laws love some other place I’m sure that puts a strain on all concerned.
    Continued prayers for Colin.

    Linda
Yes this weekend our highs be in the teens, maybe we will get some mixture or snow. Maybe fun going to church on Sunday. So glad most of the mixture be in the evening. So our son should be on his way.
I checked & he will be warmer & above freezing so that’s good when traveling back home in Branson, MO.

Judith. Thank you for the help
I also read the devotional post. Sometimes a day late due to the different time zones maybe.
I may just make potato soup & put some ham in it?
It’s interesting that my sister, in Victoria, & our daughter, Jean, almost gave me the same recipe made in a crockpot.
Oh Sandi, sister, in Victoria sent a picture of Butchart gardens. I’ll try to send it.
I have enjoyed reading about all the different Bible study books we all use.
    Thank you all!!!

    Happy New Year!! 🎉🎆

    Happy New Year, everyone!

    6akbtv1sqbz3.jpg

We managed to stay up till midnight with our friends. We had a live band singing 50s and 60s music and many people danced. There were about 250 people from the Village at the event. The line dancers among us had a ball. It was a nice way to spend the evening though just before we went, our son arrived and wouldn't come with us. He is going to spend a few days with us and try to work out some kind of solution. It's not a nice time for him. We're quite concerned for Shaun...thank you all for praying for him. He does have depression and is scarred by his experiences in the Army especially during his deployments. These kind of family rifts affect him deeply.

Thank you all for your prayers for Joe and Eileen. Linda, Eileen has recurring bladder cancer and also battles skin cancer. She has regular treatments and surgeries for both. Her lovely face has been scarred by the removal of a large growth on her cheek. It is healing well though.

Barb - thanks for sharing the picture - it is beautiful with the colored lights on everything. We went around the neighborhood a few days ago and enjoyed looking at the homes with lights but it was near as dazzling as your picture. Potato soup with ham sounds delicious. Any thing that you make would be fine since it is made with love. I also like Judith's menu for ham. Now I want to eat some ham too. We will be eating pork and sauerkraut and black eyed peas as our family tradition. I had never heard of black eyed peas until I came to Colorado and that is what his family always ate. We know that it is not going to bring us luck but just is fun to follow in the steps of our families. My granddaughter said she was going to eat 12 green grapes under a table tonight at midnight so she will have a good year and maybe find a boyfriend. I am not sure where she found that tradition.

Judith - My mom really liked to use her Thompson chain reference Bible. It was well worn as your sounds like it is too. With Glenn's enormous library of books he has bought over the years, I have a plethora of bibles, commentaries, dictionaries and concordances to use. I also use my study Bible for details. This is good but I also know that man wrote all the extra things that explain the Bible and I need to not be led astray by someone who has ideas that are not Biblically based. Glenn has certain authors that he reads from that are solid in their beliefs so I run names of people through his knowledge to know if I should be reading what they say. Of course the Bible is the main source that has everything we need to life and growth in our Christian walk.

Susan - I am surprised that you stayed up so late for the new year but it sounds like a fun party. We are having a quiet night with a few snacks and maybe see a movie.

Happy New Year to all those who are celebrating tonight! 🎊🎉🎇🎆

Susan that is neat you stayed awake. I usually can do 11 & it will be 2025 in PA where I grew up.
    The celebration sounds like fun.

My son, Harry 3, Hong Hong took her relatives to see the plaza lights, which I live close too. Then we had bbq tonight for supper I got to give a bit of a bottle to Annabella, but o& unlocked her she slept a little bit.
Friday Hong Hong’s sister & husband fly back to Hong Kong. Amy, mom, stays a bit longer. Tuesday is Annabella’s weight check.

Let’s all hope for a healthy new year.

    Happy New Year 2025

Wishing you all God’s Best! And pray you are filled with God’s Abundant Blessings Today and Always!

Here in BC it is New Years Eve!

I won’t likely be awake at 12 Midnight! Going to listen to couple of Teaching DVD’s and will pray and head to bed.

Barb, thank you for sharing the picture of Butchart Gardens. I have been there at least 2 times in the Summer and Early Fall and both times were lovely. About the Soup, like your idea of having potato soup with Ham, sounds good. Praying for safe travels for the family who are returning to Hong Kong! Praying that the next weigh in for Annabella will be all good. I am sure your son and family enjoyed seeing the Plaza Lights.

Susan, wow, you sure stayed up late. Sounds like a good time you had. A lot of people who came out, 250 people is quite a group. Sorry to hear about your dear son Shaun. I will continue to keep him in much prayer for things to work out. I will also continue to keep Joe and Eileen in much
prayer. How is Colin doing with regulating his Blood Sugars?

Linda, thank you for sharing about how your Mom enjoyed the Thompson Chain Bible. As you shared about all the commentaries dictionaries your Hubby has it reminded me how many I have, from Bible College and Books my Pastor gave me. I really like the Work of Spurgeon, Tozer and Smith Wigglesworth! There are a few others I can share next time. My favorite Commentary is the Matthew Henry Commentary.

Have a Blessed Night! Happy New Year 2025 🎉and God Bless. ✝️❤️😇📖

Well here it is 2025 - time for fresh starts especially if we have been stuck.

I have my plan (goals) set down and look forward to having a good year.

We (Norm and I) have started reading through the New Testament together - we are about 1/2 way through Matthew and enjoying it - it always brings about good discussions.

Am working on 4 - 5 pounds that I am praying I will be able to release by the end of January.

Also will start my walking on the treadmill for 6 minutes every day in January - just waiting for Norm to return as I like him to be in the house when I do it should I run into trouble.

Lets keep praying consistently - and remember to be still and listen

Marilyn, Happy New Year! Glad to hear how you are doing. I love that you and Norm are reading the NT together and talking about it. Yes, our prayer lives are our lifelines and the lifelines of our churches too.

Judith, you are right! It was the Thompson Chain Reference Bible I was talking about. I like that it cross references the Bible to show all the connections that God put there. Thank you for praying for Shaun. He is still here with us but is working on his problems. I think he appreciates the relief from the pressure cooker at his house with his father in law. There is talk of Shaun and Colin going out to help our other son with a building project for a few days. It might be a good idea. Thank you also for continuing to pray for Joe and Eileen. Colin is still waiting to talk with his Diabetic Educator tomorrow to adjust his base insulin rate. He is telling the machine he is eating less carbs than he actually is and the machine is still making him go low, even straight after a meal. He needs this sorted out.

Linda, glad you had a quiet NYE planned. Did I ever tell you I am a night owl? It was no problem for me to stay up to see the New Year in but Colin found it a little challenging! He goes to bed early as a rule and gets up early too. I usually sleep till 7am after going to bed at midnight but he needs much more sleep and is sometimes in bed by 8pm. He gets up around 5am. I've always been a night owl and he has always been a Lark.

Barb, glad to hear Annabella and Hong Hong seem to be doing a little better and I have high hopes for the clinic results this week. Safe travels for her family. Glad Amy can stay a bit longer. I liked your picture of the lights too. Thank you also for praying for us. I keep picturing you giving Annabella her bottle. Sweet times!

    Happy 2025.
    Marilyn.
Prayers that you make your goal.
Glad for the reading with husband Norm. ✝️😃

I did some cleaning today as son & family come Friday just before a snow/ice storm. Meteorologists are not sure but I believe & pray that they make it home safely Saturday. Coming to see Annabella.
I’ll post if when meteorologists know more if I need to put in the prayer request comment’s.
The storm is still, out in the ocean.

Will you get the storm Linda?
We get it Saturday night & Sunday. So getting to church might be a challenge. Then very cold. Monday is like 14* for the high & single numbers for the lows. Brrr🥶

I did order a ESV, large print study Bible. It will be somewhat bigger than I’m used to too but with large print, that is given. My daughter, Elisabeth, told me that she & hubby, Jeremiah, have ESV Bibles too.

Hope all having a nice day. In the 40’s here so next week temps will feel so cold. Snow on the ground makes it, older too.

So glad you enjoyed the picture Judith & all. My sister had company from Germany/ England som they went to the gardens.

I do, hope all are enjoying a rest & with family time.

Oh I got some HEET to put in our cars with the cold temps on Monday as we don’t have a garage so cars start.

    Happy New Year.

We made it over the mountain safely. The snow storm was supposed to come in the mountains at 2pm so we had to leave early this morning. There was snow piled up on the edge of the road from the storm over the weekend but the roads were clear. There were a few snowflakes as we drove but we got ahead of the storm. It was 17F (-8.3C) as we drove. When we stopped at a rest area, the water was frozen in the sinks and in the drinking fountain. I was glad that at least the toilets were working and flushed OK. I think that their heating system was not working because we have been there in the winter before and it was not as cold as it was today. They did have a little space heater working very poorly. It was barely putting out any heat.

Judith - I understand not staying up until midnight. Glenn barely was able to walk up the stairs he was so tired at midnight. My daughter and I stayed up later to watch a TV show we really like so I got to bed
at 2am. It was really hard to get up this morning to pack to come back to Grand Junction. I did sleep a bit in the truck but my neck was sore when I woke up from sleeping sitting up.

Barb - I know I loved to breast feed my babies but I also know that allowing others to be able to feed the baby is a blessing to them also. I am so glad you were able to feed Annabelle her bottle and let Hong Hong get some rest.

Susan - I am praying for some peace for Shaun, his wife and your granddaughter. Children may not understand what is happening but they do feel the tension in the air. Dealing with in-laws can be a quite delicate situation to keep everyone happy. Most of the time, there had to be compromise on both sides. It does not sound like that is happening. I am glad that you and Colin are a safe place for him to come to for a respite.

Marilyn - It sounds like you have a good plan in place. I look forward to hearing about your victories in your journey of weight loss and health.

Happy New Year and God Bless you all. My Prayer for each of you is taken from Ephesians 1:16-19 and Jeremiah 29:11

I wish you all God’s Best for this New Year of 2025.

Today I began a New Devotional and Started Reading through the Bible in a year that I do each year, my Reading was Genesis chapters 1 thru to
4! Reading the Bible through the Year has always been a blessing and is so inspiring as I meditate on themes and highlight verses that stand out. Following a theme through and doing a Word Study is so refreshing and I learn something new daily. I keep a Journal and entitle the pages “Scripture and Thoughts for the Day”

Marilyn, thank you for sharing, so glad you and
Norm are reading the New Testament together and discussing what you learned. I am excited for you that you have your goals planned out and look forward to a good year. I cheer you on and believe with you that you will meet those goals. And cheering you on for the weight loss you are hoping for. Your comment about Listening, keep Praying be still and listen, brought to mind the Scripture from…

    Psalm 46:10
Be Still and Know I Am God!
I will be exalted among the nations
I will be exalted in the earth

    And a Chorus from an old Hymn;

    Trust and Obey
For there is no other way
But to be Happy in Jesus
    Is to Trust and Obey

Susan, thanks for confirming that it was the Thompson Chain Bible you were talking about. I too enjoyed how you could take a theme word and carry it right through the Bible and build a complete study even on one word. That would be great if Colin and Shaun could go and help your other son. It believe it would help take the edge off the heaviness of the situation Shaun is living under. I feel for your son, it isn’t easy living under those conditions. My prayers continue. I am also praying for Colin that his Diabetes will regulate. Praying for Joe and Eileen.

Barb, praying for safety for your family as they travel to your place to see Annabella. I hope you don’t get the snow and ice storm. Praying for you and Harry’s safety. Glad you got your Bible and hope you enjoy using it. I can almost see you cuddling Annabella as you gave her a bottle. Nice for Hong Hong that she could have some rest while you looked after Annabella and fed her! A couple messages ago you were talking about what you would do with your spiral Ham; did you decide to make a Ham and Potato Soup?

Linda, you were talking about Susan being up late and we found out here that Susan is a night owl, lately I have been a night owl, not sure why so I ended up by staying up late last night and saw the New Year come in at Midnight! I wished Family and Several Friends a Happy New Year. And I too watched couple of ministry DVD’s and Read my Bible and Prayed the New Year in. So glad you had a good trip over the Mountain in spite of you being so tired after being up to 2am.

It’s getting late now, sorry for such a long message tonight but didn’t want to leave anyone out tonight. Hope I didn’t. Off to read, take meds and then off to Bed! Good Night 😴 God Bless! 🙏🤗

So glad that you made it over the mountain safely and ahead of a snowstorm. That is not the one we will get as our snow storm is still out in the Pacific Ocean. Time will tell.

Susan, praying for Colin with his Diabetes and Shaun with his living conditions. We know that God is able and can help.
So glad that you are using a Bible program that you like. That is so good, and encourages one to read and study the Bible more.

Judith, I also read the Bible through in a year. I like to read different versions each year.
I use the Daily Bread, which has a read throuh the Bible in a hyear in it so I use that, Today in the Word a Moody production, memorize and my prayer partnere gave me a daily reading from Sarah Young to use this year too. A gift that keeps on giving.

So the storm is still out in the Pacific so the details are not there yet, but it looks like it is Saturday late afternoon and through Sunday with a mix and ice and then snow. Fun for Sunday AM services. So James, son should have started his way home before it starts I hope.
We don't have a garage, so I hope to fill my car up and put some HEET in teh car so it will start. Jean, daughter, gave me a windshield protector so I'll put that on my phone too.

Have any of you filled out the Chit Chat on a Ipad and my cell only to have it disappear. This has happened many times to me. It's very frustrating so I am using the computer and it's not disappering.

    Stay well all.

Prayers for Marilyn with the study with Norm, hubby and losing weight. You & God can do it..

Stay well, healthy and warm all.

To bad we can't give you our cold Susan & you your humidity. How is your asthma doing. Monday our low is 4 and in the teens for the hight. BRRR..

MFP says permission problem. Crazy & frustrating.

Ice storm before snow could be bad. Prayers we don’t not lose power. We have no generator.
Not sure if new there is a new link for prayers & can’t find it if there is.
    Sorry.

Hello all. I'm a bit later posting here than usual as Shaun decided to go home today. We'll see what happens. I don't think anything is fixed but at least he had a small break from the tensions and problems.
    9
Barb, I don't think you can delete any threads here. I think a person whonus an administrator can, but otherwise they just stay in tbe group. No need to delete, just look for the current month. It will automatically go to the top of the forum feed when someone posts in it. I think the prayer request thread is a single thread. If you cannot see it, it usually means people have posted in other threads that then go to the top of the feed. Press the button at the bottom of the threads to see more. I'll just get the button's name for you....

Barb, on our group page, scroll down to 'new discussions' then scroll down to 'see more'. The whole list of threads then appears.

    I hope that helps?

Judith, I also read the Bible in a year. I have been using a KJV Bible app that has daily prayers, devotions, Bible quizzes and so on. This year I am on a plan that takes you through the Bible using themes. Today I read Psalm 119. Yesterday I read Ruth. So I get through a portion of scripture every day that way. I think I started reading the Bible every year around 2011. I had a Pastor who encouraged it then and taught us a way to do it. I'm so glad he did.

Linda, glad you got through the mountains safely and hope you have a more comfortable sleep tonight. Yes, Shaun's entire family is affected by these troubles and Inara at age 2 is pretty wild sometimes, I think because she is seeing arguments. It's not good. Thank you (and thank you all) for praying for peace for them.

Today I had the fun of getting a mammogram and bone scan done. I am glad that it is not a monthly thing to do. It had been longer than a year so they were due. I do not have osteoporosis but my doctor is just checking to see how my bones are doing. Since I now have two hip replacements, they can not use my hips to check bone density so they have to use my forearm. I have not had that done before. I hope it is as accurate as the hip scan was in past years. I got a letter in the mail today that they want to pay me $10 to be in a survey of where I traveled during the day. It is for the department of transportation to see where people in a certain area travel to assess the road usage and any changes they need to make. We do not travel much around town so I am afraid the information they are looking for will be very boring. I have an app that will record the distance traveled and where I am going. They only pick a few people in each neighborhood and then put the information together to see how the city is traveling. It seems that a lot of us are doing a through the Bible study. I am doing a subject study to see myself as Jesus sees me. Some of the trauma that my inner little girl saw growing up affects my life today in ways I do not always see. I want to give comfort to that little girl showing her who Jesus/God really are and how they see her (fearfully and wonderfully made, cherished, loved, protected, etc,) which then will help me as an adult overcome my thoughts processes today.

Susan - I hope Shaun will be able to use the calm he felt at your house to help him cope at home. I do feel so sorry for Inara since she does not understand everything that is going on. Children can be like sponges and react to what they perceive is happening. I also pray for Colin. How is his blood sugars doing?

Barb - yes I have problems with MFP loosing what I am writing. I have had to re-do some threads several times before it sticks. I do try to push "save draft" frequently which does seem to help a bit. I have not seen the weather report lately to see if the storm you are talking about is going to be going in our direction. We have had so little snow that we could use some moisture here. (We have the cold but not the snow.)

Judith - Psalm 46:10 is one of my favorite scriptures. My mind can get to racing and I need to remind myself to slow down and listen to the gentle whispers of Jesus. He had everything under control.

I am finishing up quite late tonight. I enjoyed working on the Threads and reading everyone’s Post here.

Barb, about Deleting past Threads, Susan gave an accurate reply so I would follow what she has said. Will continue to pray the storm doesn’t affect your area and you and the family are kept safe and warm. Hope your son get home early, safe travels for him. There isn’t a new link for Prayer, will find it and post something to make it easier for you to find.

Susan, continue to uphold Shaun in prayer, hope the peace and calm he had while with you will carry over to his situation. I feel for little Inara, 2 years old is too young for her to understand on what is going on. It’s so hard on the little ones. Praying for Colin, any improvements? It seems we are all Reading through the Bible this year, you said you had been doing that since 2011 when your Pastor encouraged the congregation to do it. I have done all kinds of reading they in a year, themes, key words and of course the Chronological way of reading.

Linda, thank you for sharing, yes Psalm 46:10 has always ministered to me. So happy you had a safe trip over the mountains. Trusting your Mammogram and Bone Density scans have a good report!
