    Judith - I have seen a star fruit but never tasted one. Maybe I should put that on my grocery list.

    X - Xanthium is actually another name for the cocklebur from North America and some parts of Asia. The fruit is often used in Chinese medicine and has a specific name in Chinese, Cang Er Zi due to its color and shape. In Western countries, Xanthium can be used as a painkiller to reduce soreness and headaches brought by nasal congestion.

    Xanthium is considered poisonous, according to some sources; however, the toxicity can be eliminated by rinsing the fruit in freshwater or exposing it to hot temperatures. The fruit is yellow and consists of a scabrous and spiky look like a baby hedgehog.

    *We have cocklebur's that get in the dogs hair and cause big mats if the hair is long. We did not like them but I never knew that they could be used for medicine.

    H - Huauzontle

    Chenopodium nuttalliae is a species of edible plant native to Mexico. It is known by the common names huauzontle (literally "hairy amaranth", from the Nahuatl huauhtli 'amaranth' and tzontli 'hair') and Aztec broccoli. Other variations of the name include huauhzontlehuazontlehuanzontle, and guausoncle. It is related to other commonly-consumed plants such as quinoaamaranth, and epazote, as well as the common American weeds goosefoot and lambsquarters. The plant grows upright branches with red tinted green leafy stems. Huauzontle stems superficially resemble baby broccoli, although the stems are much thinner, and support fewer of the leaves.

    Like amaranth, huauzontle is very resistant to cold and dry climates, and grows even in poor soil. In addition, it has a high nutritional level, which makes it an excellent grain alternative in regions with difficulties sowing other types of cereals.[1]

    During the rule of Moctezuma, huauzontle and amaranth were the fourth most important crops, after maizebeans, and chia. Many towns paid tribute to the Aztec empire in huauzontle.[2][3]
