Lots of posts to catch up on! As far as the moderation vs. Abstinence issue I differently fall in the moderation category. Not that I don't overeat sometimes but overall feel like I have a better handle on things. I always always always keep a bag of my favorite chips around. I think it's easier to pass on them some days because I can just have them tomorrow because I never run out. If I bought them occasionally I think I would crave/binge. My chocolate is another issue because my husband knows where the stash is and it does run out! Ha
As far as the protien conversation I try to eat more but it doesn't always work out. I aim for balanced macros too and I don't exclude any food groups or macros.
I have been busy lately with life. Like @KellyBgetsfit I'm doing the parent teacher conference marathon. Helping my daughter with middle school girl drama. Squeezing in date night with my husband and doing a lot of cooking. I have started cooking for my in laws several times a week. My youngest has a birthday soon so I have party decorations and a volcano/dinosaur cake on the to do list. My little guy has wanted guinea pigs for years. This year he got his wish! We picked up 3 little critters on Friday and I have been sewing little pillows and bedding for the little things. I have done zero exercise this week. I only work Monday and Tuesday this week so I should be getting in my workouts soon. Oh my gosh, I have to get ready for Thanksgiving since I'm the host! Yikes 😬

@conleywoods those Guinea pigs are adorable! That's a great addition to the family.

Hey everyone. Hope you all had a great weekend. I tried a few new recipes over the weekend and went shopping. It feels so good to be able to buy clothes from a real store and not have to order them online. The credit card companies are going to love me...lol. Can't go to the gym today. My boyfriend couldn't ride his Harley to work because it is raining. My 2nd truck is on the fritz so he had to drive our only working truck. It's all good, I can still hit the treadmill. I finished my last big paper for school. Graduation is only a few weeks away and we leave for our trip in 2 days. I'm so excited I can't stand it. Hoping when we get back I can get released to go back to work. Unfortunately that hasn't happened as of yet.6

PW: 79.7 kg
CW: 79.3 kg
@conleywoods your new guinea pigs are super cute!
I had a weird weigh in on the 18th - dropped from 79.4 to 78.1 and back to 79.6 the day after. Who knows?! I would, if possible, like to be under 76kg on the 31st December, which would put me under 12 stone. I'm not sure how realistic that is (particularly as we have a couple of parties coming up and a Christmas meal out) so I'm trying not to get hung up on it. Would be nice though!
It's 2pm and I'm only 1L of cordial down so far. Better than nothing, and I've deliberately avoided the fizzy drinks in the fridge so I'm aiming to get through the next litre before I go running at 5.30, then another afterwards in the evening. I haven't tried the heart rate monitor yet, so will be putting that on and seeing how things go. Hopefully a running buddy will join me, but if not I'll go solo; I only need to do 30 minutes and can stick to roads which are well lit and not deserted.
I've identified the main source of my current stress, which is needing to make a decision but not liking any of the options. I'm going to allow myself this evening to write out all the options, because it's currently in my head, then I'm going to pick one and be done with it. Often for me it's easier to deal with the fall out when/if it presents itself, than it is to make the decision in the first place. When I make a decision like this I can usually accept it straight away, do the needful, and then forget about it. So - one evening, and here's to a less stressful tomorrow!4 -
Holy Hiking @ashleycarole86 ! I'm seriously jealous. Banff is so gorgeous, and delicious tasting menus on top of the scenery, snow, and sweat - you are living the dream I'm going to be coming to Alberta some time this winter - maybe I'll fly into Calgary instead of Edmonton and take a hike with you guys. The snowshoes will be required, I'm sure!
@kdblpn You are on a roll! Another week with a good solid loss, your last paper done, a fun trip coming up, graduating soon - you can't see it, but my imaginary hat is flying up into the air!3 -
@DD265 I think you could make it to under 76kg by the end of the year - don't forget that the parties and holiday meal are only 3 meals/events out of the next 39 days. If you lose 1.5 pounds per week for these 5 weeks and a bit you'll make it! That's around 700g per week which is not easy but certainly doable. Even if you don't quite get there by that magic date, you will be there not long afterwards - we'll want some more before/after photos then! Good luck with your tough decision today. It is always a relief once the decision is done, even if the implementation is not pleasant. Visualise @conleywoods little guinea pigs!2

@conleywoods The guinea pigs are so cute. We used to have 2 when my kids were little and ended up with 5. Baby guinea pigs are the cutest of all rodent babies as they are born fully furred and look like furry little ping pong balls. Enjoy your new furbabies! Ours were the BEST!!!
I am much like you, Kristi, I am team moderation (for the most part) not abstinence. Tell me I can't have it and I want it more. Chocolate is not really an issue for me. I can control it because every time I eat a piece I end up with a pimple to remind me to stop. I often wonder if that is why I don't crave it. Now, as you may have heard, cookies are what I am still working on. Not any cookies. My homemade cookies. My husband always has multiple bags of cookies in the pantry. I don't touch them. But a fresh batch of Chocolate chip and eeeeeekkk! But I'm working on it.
If you are having a craving, plan for it. If you don't you will eventually eat your way to it, so you might as well have it from the start and save yourself unnecessary calories.
It often makes me sad when people think they blew it to have a slice of pizza. It does't have to be blowing it. Not talking about eating a whole pizza, but a slice maybe two if you have the calories will not end you. But, everyone has to do what works for them and I know the carb thing is a big part of pizza aversion.
I also watch my macros. Even when I don't and look back, at this point I'm pretty much in the range. My most difficult macro to hit is getting enough protein. When I do make the effort, I am definitely fuller and less snacky.
Did my 15 minutes of Pilates. Going to have my coffee, then off to the dentist this morning, then baking with my daughter and granddaughter. It's my son in laws birthday.
Make it a great day!!5 -
@ashleycarole86
steps for this week:
Sun: 11,608 + 1 hr hiking (Humpback Rocks in Virginia - one of my favorites!)
Mon: 11,178
Tues: 11,585
Wed: 14,149
Thurs: 10,825
Fri: 10,944
Sat: 18,034
Still very much struggling over here with lack of motivation and giving in to every single craving that comes to mind. Trying to turn things around today. Last night, after truly not leaving my bed ALL day, and taking multiple naps, and eating total crap, I went on a 2.5 hour walk. Feast or famine mentality over here - working on finding a happy medium. It's hard.6 -
💛🌈⭐INSPIRATIONAL MONDAY ⭐🌈💛
This first one is for all of us who might be seeing more family than usual with the holidays. Sometimes people feel compelled to share things with us that are less helpful 😉
Here is one to help you stick to your plans as you close out the year!

WAISTAWAYS NOVEMBER WEEK 3 STEP CHALLENGE RESULTS
# of participants – 8
WEEK 3 TOP STEPPERS
#1 @sljjjembeca 125,736
#2 @jugar 99,089
#3 @Kali225 98,643
WEEK 3 TOP CONSISTENT STEPPERS
Days meeting daily step pledge (If you’ve made one)
@ashleycarole86 7/7
@jugar 7/7
@Kali225 7/7
WEEK 3 STRETCH STEPPERS
Days exceeding daily step pledge by more than double (If you’ve made one)
@Kali225 1/7
The following step challenge teammates who laddered up this week (increasing total step count in week 3 over week 2):
@jugar
@micki48
And to those who had their biggest day of November fitness yet in week 3:
@jugar 11/15
Together, the eight of us walked a total of 678,877 steps this week – 321 miles. Didn’t ladder up or have your best day of fitness this week? Week 2 was particularly strong for our team, but we still had lots of great numbers in week 3. So, your week 3 progress has still contributed to some amazing stats for the team so far this month. Also, our team step count (which all eight of us contributed to) was higher in week three than week one even though we had one extra participant to start the month. So, that just shows we’ve been stepping up our game as the month goes on. Keep working on your own goals and challenging yourself – we’re doing great!5 -

@jugar YES YES YES! Great idea.. when you're up in Wainwright it's way too far to ask you to come down for a hike but the flying into Calgary is a superb plan. Either way it would be fun to get together again.
@conleywoods Loving those cards, so fun. Let us know what you name the guinea pigs. I've never had them before but they sure are cute.
@Kali225 Oh girl you will get your mojo back. Pushing yourself for that long walk was a great start. Slumps like that are rough but ride it out and sincerely hope you'll be back to feeling your usual self soon. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help.
@micki48 Happy birthday to your son-in-law!
@DD265 Love your strategy for making the decision and moving forward. Picking between two not so great things definitely requires planning as to how to choose.. I would be in the same indecisive boat but I'm not sure I'd be so organized about how to get out of it - I will remember your strategy for next time. Even if that's how I likely inevitably choose, I've never done so with that kind of structure... seems like it would be helpful.
We are going to Zoolights tonight - started the day with 50 minutes on the bike and got a walk at lunch with our dog so steps will be great today. See you tomorrow!5 -
What fun the step reports are! Thanks so much @ashleycarole86
Just stopping by to mention an interesting article I just read from Nautilus magazine. It talks about the human microbiome, eating fibre, and all the complicated facets around questions of diet, health, evolution. Kind of long, but worth a look. I like that it is not a black and white presentation with some miracle answer, but it gives one of the better overviews of the whole question I have seen.
https://nautil.us/issue/30/identity/how-the-western-diet-has-derailed-our-evolution
I'm hopping on the bike with an episode of something exciting. Time to get some sweat on...7 -
@jugar there's a podcast you might like.. The Doctor's Kitchen by Dr Rupy Aujla. He's a GP here in the UK but needed major surgery and when he was trying to get in the best condition he could for the operation, he actually resolved his health issue. He interviews various experts, including episode 4 being focused on gut microbiome. One of the interesting points is how fibre is typically more lacking in our diets than protein.
@conleywoods I love those cards.
@ashleycarole86 if it makes you feel better, I think I've been stressing over this decision (without necessarily realising it) for a few weeks before actually being sensible and organising my way out of it. I still didn't like the options when I saw them on paper but was easier to choose one when I could do a direct comparison and I could see that none of the options carried as much risk as I feared (all finance related).
I trained this morning and it was a good session but I may not be able to lift my arms over my head by the end of the day. We did a warm up then what he calls 'bear sets' which are deadlift, clean, front squat, front overhead press, back squat, back overhead press re-set and go again. 5 reps, 5 sets at 20kg, then 1 rep 1 set at 30kg. I didn't quite manage the back overhead press on the 30kg so did an extra set and achieved it. I did pushes rather then presses (pushing up as I came out of the squats so my legs did most of the work) because we need to work on shoulder strength. We then did a small circuit 4x through; 10x 30kg deadlifts, 5x 22.5kg overhead presses and 5x 5kg flies. I couldn't quite complete the OH presses! It gives us a focus anyway, and it seems like he wants to achieve 80kg deadlift and 40kg overhead press by January.
After coming home I went for a walk to pick up some takeaway containers for batch cooking (via the Olio app which is for giving things away free or borrowing), then noticed a big pile of dog muck on the WW1 memorial in the church yard so went back out to try and clean that up and now I'm angry at whoever left it. People suck, but I'm trying not to let that be the feeling for the rest of my day. I am a peaceful, loving dino-tank...4 -
Tuesday Weigh-In
PW: 215.0
CW: 217.3
Wuh-wuh. My Thanksgiving holiday is a little up in the air as of now, although I am hoping to see family - but the food makes me nervous. I really want to make some progress in December to close out the year on a stronger note, but it's not an easy time to do so.4 -
@DD265 Wow! You are training hard for sure. Good for you keeping strong - preventing future pain that is way more annoying than muscle aches after a workout. And thanks for the podcast suggestion - I'll check it out. I'm already in camp fibre, but it is always good to hear/read the research that backs it up.
@Kali225 Hugs to you! Time to cut yourself some grace and not get nervous over food. Control the days you can the best you can, and enjoy the others. Food in the company of family and friends is a great pleasure - we can plan ahead some strategies to keep it from going full blowout, but those days are going to happen and be lovely. There are lots of other days to keep it tight, though - work on those ones, and you'll feel strong and calm about the party days. Some progress in December is possible. Even if it is only a pound or two! Just keep the ambitions within the possible.
I have hit a quick gain this week too. Ugh. After having that bad cold and fever when I didn't feel like eating, I have more than made up for it! So today, aiming for a perfect day. All pre-logged, no extras.
It's snowing.5 -
Yesterday's exercise was:
11185 steps, 50 minutes on the Peloton
My weigh-in last Thursday was a low that I haven't seen since. Also not at the high I've seen since, so hey.. that's great. There's still hope to be in the green but I may be recording a small gain as well. Two more days to work on it!
I've been really proud of my exercise this week. My average weight trend is still down this week so that's the main thing.4 -
Weigh-in update!
Overdue:
@tasoconnor

@holymanhibbard
Due Wednesday:
@AshenMoon
@KellyBgetsFit
@MoStacy
@PlaneMonkey
Thanks!1 -
I'm drinking boat loads of water tonight to compensate for the salty fried chicken hubby convinced me to have for supper. He twisted my rubber arm so we shall see if it affects my weigh in tomorrow. My yo-yoing has been better this last week, staying within a 3lb range at least.
I got Disney+ so there has been a bit more couch time than normal. 😉 That will likely get better by next week as the binge watching will be done!3 -
@DD265 Oh my gosh! Your trainer sounds evil😈 😄 ha! Seriously impressive 👏 Shoulder press is always a much lower weight for me as well. I bet you will get there at the rate you are going!
@jugar That was a great article and thanks for sharing. We have snow too! So exciting
I finally finished up parent teacher conferences! So glad to be done. Had my two longest ones today for some of my more complex kiddos! But I am now on vacation.
My 11 year old niece has covid 😔😪She has a rare and serious heart condition with only the left side of her heart being fully formed and functional. Super scary and she is not allowed to be vaccinated at this time. Her heart is already enlarged and they can't risk the chance of more inflammation if she had a vaccine reaction. My sister is a nurse and she is watching her closely. So far she isn't too sick, fingers crossed!!!5 -

Not my weigh in day but was so happy to see that 3 turn into a 2 on the scale this morning I had to share. While my friends and family are happy too, no one understands that good feeling like you guys so I wanted to share.8 -

I have had gains for 2 weeks! I did start a new lifting program that has left me sore this week. I am going to be brave and go shopping today so I can have some healthy meal options.
@Kali225 Thanksgiving is one day and unless you plan on eating an extra 3500 calories, any weight increase is water. I am up right now. I plan to keep it clean today, Saturday, and Sunday (I might have a slice of pie Fri). I will definitely indulge on tomorrow. I plan on working out and watching serving sizes, but it's one day
@conleywoods praying for your niece. That is very scary. Glad you survived PTC 🙌
@dd265 that sounds like an awesome workout! And good for you for cleaning up other people's dogs messes.3 -
That is FaNTaSTiC @kdblpn! Congratulations on results from all your hard work and dedication1
-
Officially Inspired. You are all amazing.
@PlaneMonkey losing a pound in spite of the fried chicken and extra couch time!
@conleywoods on vacation after a ton of hard work! I hope your little niece keeps on with the mild symptoms - I'm so glad your sister is a nurse, and that she has such a loving and supportive sister as you. Hugs to you all
@kdblpn WOW WOW WOW! Twoterville! You get the team tiara as of this minute and may prance about wearing the thing and using its full bragging rights
@KellyBgetsfit lifting weight and building muscle always puts on weight at first - your muscles retain water as part of the healing process after you torture them and make them sore Revenge!
A cold gorgeous morning here - time to get out the down jacket at last!1 -
Woo! Exciting to be on the leaderboard/results on Sunday! Unfortunately no change in my weight this week, good and bad as I see it. Happy that the numbers didn't go up! @jugar
I would like to take a second to gush about sushi rice and poke bowls. Eating sooo many veggies because of them, honestly doesn't even need all that much rice but I'm using a bunch of root veggies in my fridge, leftover nappa cabbage, and cucumbers...SOOOo good! We bought some fake crab to add in, as well as some Nova salmon (smoked salmon that's used for lox). Also I was basically 31 and a half years old before I learned that you make sushi rice by cooking short grain rice and adding a cooked mixture of rice vinegar, salt, and sugar to the cooked rice. I thought sushi rice was just a type of rice. Hopefully that might enlighten others ("Just One Cookbook" has a fantastic guide on making it)4 -
I cleared my schedule today so that I could cosy up with Edie today. She's very old now and she gave me one of those "can I have a hug" looks.
How could I not? We fear she won't be with us for too much longer 😔

For some reason, this didn't attach in my earlier message. Maybe because I was using my phone??
