Yesterday's exercise - 10043 steps7 -
@MoStacy @ashleycarole86 Great job!
@eggfreak: one tenth of a pound...don't sweat it. You are one healthy dump from being in the green..lol.
Normally I do not crave sweets but yesterday I wanted sugar bad. I found a low carb, low calorie pound cake recipe and had all the ingredients in the house so I made it. It was fabulous! Only 83 calories a slice and no more cravings.
I have a question for everyone. Ok keep in mind that I eat no more than 20grams of carbs a day and no more than 1200 calories a day. ( This is per recommendations from my doctor). When I go on my trip next week I will have no fridge or microwave. I will have a cooler with access to plenty of ice. No way to cook though. Any ideas on things I can make to take with me. I plan on eating at restaurants one meal a day. Need like grab and go ideas. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
@jugar: Just wanted to take a second and thank you for all you do for this group. You keep us going very smoothly!
@ashleycarole86: I am thinking about tracking my steps in December. Can I set my daily goal? What else do I need to do?6 -
@kdblpn Absolutely, you can start anytime (no need to wait if you don't want to - but fine if you want to gear up for it too)
Just let me know your daily target and that will allow me to include you in all the stats!
The weeks for reporting are Sunday to Saturday. You can report daily (like me) or weekly (like everyone else) - fine with either. Ideally if you can give me your week by the Sunday following that allows me to get the report out right away (but I'll send a reminder a day or two afterwards as well). Our step team is steps + exercise so if you include your steps + your intentional movement minutes I can track both.
I think that's it, let me know if you have any questions.2 -
@kdblpn
You are on quite a strict plan - no wonder you have lost so much and are doing so well! Bravissima!
For your trip, I suggest lots of salads. They are easy to construct, require no cooking, and the protein can be pre-cooked roasted or grilled chicken, fish, pre-cooked shrimp, canned tuna, etc. You can pile on the delicious goodies like artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, avocado, celery, carrots, all the kinds of lettuces (I'm partial to arugula, but not everyone loves the bitterness), fbaby kale, shredded cabbage (red or green), fresh herbs, and any kind of dressing you like with no sugar. I just use plain old olive oil and vinegar and whatever herbs sound good that day, dried or fresh. Salads are great because you can eat SO much with so few calories. If you want even more fibre throw on some sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, nuts. Go nuts!
@ashleycarole86
Psssst! You are below your favourite competitor's last week weigh-in!! I'm kinda quietly rooting for him not to have lost this week... I know that is absolutely NOT correct, but it's fun while it lasts! Well done, you!
Flu shot happening today - and then rain, snow and rain, rain and snow, and all kinds of stuff for a few days. I wish it would just leave out the rain part. Hmmph.
Have a good one!6 -
@kdblpn you said what I didn't have the guts to! I fully believe that's my problem on the 'regular' too! 😂😉
Ohh, and when I was travelling out of town to a hockey tournament, a couple of the ladies were on a keto diet and stuck with chicken ceasar salads and hard boiled eggs for most of the trip. You can get a low calorie/low carb dressing and like @jugar said, add extras to the salad to mix it up and make it interesting1 -
@jugar @PlaneMonkey As simple as it sounds. I hadn't even thought about salad. Thank you. I know my diet seems kind of strict but it is because I had gastric sleeve surgery in April. So I have lost 113 pounds in only 7 months. The doctors believe my cardiac arrest in June was from an electrolyte imbalance so I make sure I do exactly what I need to everyday. It is hard for me to get 1200 calories in a day..sometimes I have to work super hard to get in 1000 calories but it's because I only have 1/10 of ny stomach. I have to eat 60 grams of protein a day so that is what I focus on.
@ashleycarole86: I think I will wait until December to start with my steps. Trying to psych myself up...lol.4 -
Time is flying!
I'm not doing as well as I would like on steps today, and I'm taking the evening off from the exercise bike - I did an extra Pilates session today, and worked the arms really hard to make sure the flu shot did not make me sore. I find exercising the arm quite hard after the shot helps. But tonight, I'm taking it easy. Tomorrow I'm getting back to flute practice - the dreaded cough from that cold is finally gone, so I think I can play now. This will feel very good (it might not sound so good after such a long break, though!)
So Friday is coming! The lineup is big - are you ready?

@jugar Now that's funny - I didn't even think of that!
Unless he went totally off the rails on his business trip, I doubt it'll hold, but I am enjoying the moment myself!
Remember he wanted to keep 10-15 pounds ahead of me? No longer!!! LOL4 -
Back again for exercise check-in. Turned into a bit of a buffet of activity:
8258 steps + 18 minutes yoga + 20 minutes Zumba + 30 minutes Beginner Epic Day 2 (arms bodyweight)
Man Epic is humbling!
Brad is home - hooray! Guess where he is? Clue.. it rhymes with Beloton He's trying to make sure your wish doesn't come true @jugar
We are off tomorrow, it's Brad one year follow up appointment with his orthopedic surgeon... the guy shamed him very publicly on the morning of surgery about the fact he hadn't lost weight so he's hoping to get some redemption.. likely won't be the case but I'm proud of how far he's come anyway!4 -
Wew! Finally done reading all the posts I missed. @jugar i hear ya on the snacks and cookies. Cookies were my problem this week. I’m afraid my weigh in tomorrow may undo all my progress. I’ve slipped. Not logging great, not making my steps. Oh well onward. We’ll see how tomorrow goes. 😬
Amazing loss @ashleycarole86 and @AshenMoon too. Woweee!!! Great job!
Hang on windy people. We had quite a bit today too.
@YinxFed Hugs to you. Hope you continue to feel better.
So much news to catch up on. I appreciate every one sharing. It’s so great to have such a supportive community.5 -
CW - 181.8 lbs

Was hoping for a 2 lb loss but oh well. Atleast, I can see the progress in my body. Every 2 weeks, I notice subtle changes here and there which is very exciting. I am also really enjoying the gym sessions, love seeing veins in my arms when working out. Trying to go from 3 sessions a week to 4 which would ensure I hit every body part once a week.
Another thing I am happy about is figuring out my cheat sessions. I use to have one on the 5th, 15th and 25th of every month where I would eat whatever I wanted all day long. I was eating every 3 hours and frankly, they were getting out of control. I would try to make up the following day by eating less or doing a lot of cardio. I was feeling a lot of guilt in the days that followed. But now I just have cheat meals - I eat the same things for breakfast and lunch that I have every day but at night, I indulge. I usually have two burgers from two different chains, some chocolate or cake and a tub of icecream to finish it off. It puts me 1500 calories over maintenance( still far less than my cheat day numbers) but I don't have any guilt the following day. All my cravings are gone and I don't feel the slightest need to do cardio or eat less to make up.
Hoping to continue all this until I reach 172 lbs. Then it's time to get a Dexa scan to figure out the next steps. I would probably go on maintenance for a month from there and then back to a small deficit of 200 calories until June,2022 to get beach ready.

Very happy with this. I was worried it might be harder to lose this week as I was sore all week and didn't work out. But it proves once again that weight-loss happens mostly in the kitchen. I know this on a rational level but I still revert to old thinking patterns of 'I didn't work out so what's the point'. My brother, on the other hand, worked out every day and gained weight this week- he doesn't listen to me
Anyone, have a lovely weekend friends.

Some awesome losses this week! Very inspiring. Any Office fan will get this one - and pardon my apprentice-level meme skills. XD

I managed to do 4 workouts this week - as planned - so I'm very happy with that! However, this morning was supposed to be an hour's session with Caroline (creator of Epic 2). But the this morning, the lady soundly kicked my bu** and I had to surrender after 25 minutes. So I chose another YouTube trainer - GrowWithJo - and did one of her 20 minute sessions, just to get my cardio in. It was fun!
Oh, and just a heads up: my daily weigh-ins have all been high so far this week, so expect a red reading on Sunday (and I will try not to take it so bad!)
Enjoy the rest of your day, Friends!5 -

I was feeling really good yesterday - doctor said I was doing a good job on my weight loss. And I got an awesome tattoo on Wednesday. But today I feel so discouraged and angry. Part of that is the three hours of sleep I got last night (Yay for waking up at 2:30). The other part is my weight is just going up. I'm 12 pounds up from my lowest weight this year (doctor didn't see that number) and the only way I got there was being really restrictive with my food and exercising a couple hours every day. That isn't sustainable right now because I'm working full-time and my commute is pretty long. Plus being a full-time student (and that is suffering)
Part of me is just saying "F*** it, why even bother?" Because I feel like I'm going to yo-yo forever. And part of me is wondering if I should leave the group because I'm not bringing any positivity to it, which I know is incredibly draining.
All of you have had some excellent losses this week.8 -

I hear you, and I understand how disheartening it is when the scale refuses to co-operate - in spite of your best efforts. This is what has happened to me throughout this month. Doing the yo-yo dance sucks!
And you're right, severely restricting your food intake and 2-hour workouts is not sustainable. Not just that, it strips the joy out of your life!
But hang in there, Friend. Our bodies tend to just make the changes that they want to when they want to. I have to keep repeating this to myself over and over when I feel this way.
And feel free to vent here - we all know what you're going through and we're all here to support you.

@kellie_erin You definitely don't have to feel positive all the time to be here, that's why we are here. Thanks for sharing your struggles. It's great to have you in the group and I appreciate your perspective. I'm happy your doc was proud of you even though you have your reasons to be disappointed.
@YinxFed I'll have to look up that YouTube. Caroline is a machine.. my goodness. Those of you that have gotten through so much Epic impress me!
Off to a movie with fam for my mom's birthday. Planned maintenance day today because there will be supper too and I'm not sure what yet.7 -

It's time for more water, less salt, and more walking. I'm happy to report that my shoulder is making great improvements and my PT and Ortho nurse are both pleased with me. Tweaking my diet will help me make some more nudges downward. I've been inspired by those of you who have gotten into the 160s and lower. I'm coming, too, one step at a time.
I found the first Harry Potter book on CD today along with several other CDs. They're all in a wooden holder and had been in the butcher block cart in the living room. The cart is now being re-repurposed as a kitchen item so, the *other* stuff had to be relocated. Yay!
Have a lovely evening/morning/afternoon, wherever you may be. See you on Saturday.

Up from two weeks ago. It's been a frustrating week with injuries and falling back into old self-destructive habits. But next week will be better!8 -
@kellie_erin Oh boy! Do you know what anger is good for? It gives you power. Add in a dash of determination and push forward. You might need to change your basic plan. Super food restriction and 2 hours of exercise is certainly not a good one. I took a look at your food diary and you might want to see what adjustments could work for you - maybe reduce the protein? I know a lot of people believe you need massive amounts of the stuff, but if you are not a high level athlete or something similar, that may not really be needed. More veggies is always my favourite mantra. You can eat a large volume without blowing the calorie budget. You certainly do not have to try that particular direction, but it sounds like it is a good time to do some experimentation. Shake it up a bit. Cut the huge breakfast back - maybe 1 kind of seeds instead of 3, etc. Maybe try intermittent fasting. I know I sure cannot do that, but some people find it fantastic. In any case, take that anger, enjoy its power, and take it for a walk to see what happens. Stick with us! We love having you here, even if you're grumpy. Hugs flying your way
@EvMakesChanges sounds good! more water, less salt, more walking. I'm so glad your shoulder is coming along! We'll have you at those pushups any day now
My weight stayed stuck this week, but at least I'm back to staying inside my maintenance zone. My son was a good boy tonight - he came over for dinner and did NOT provide Ben and Jerry's ice cream. I told him I would not let it in the door! He has started coming over every Friday for dinner, and somehow thought he should always bring ice cream and candy. Luckily he got the message that this was a very bad, terrible, horrible, no good idea. He is sweet enough.
So - the week is coming to a close. A few more weigh-ins to go by tomorrow night, and week 3 is a wrap!

@micki48 I'd say.. good job!!
Good day here today, celebrated my mom's birthday and I'm at the point where I just know to make those my higher calorie days (still do maintenance - 10%). We did a movie, had supper, and just enjoyed the day. My brother is here from Montreal so that's nice too.
Fun night on the Peloton too.. did the FTP test which is basically to establish your baseline fitness for your training plan. I love stuff like that.. measuring progress and seeing what improvements I can make.
With that, I leave you with today's exercise:
40 minutes Peloton + 6706 steps
@happimess01 Sounds like your revised cheat meal strategy is a good one - eliminating guilt is a big thing and it sounds like you've accomplished that
Have a good weekend all6
