So I decided to go with the general consensus here- carry on what I'm doing so long as it feels comfortable and is enjoyable.
My brother has been skipping for a long time and inspired me to start. I jokingly 'beat' him one night and it became a bit of a friendly competition between us. Anyway to keep a long story short, 2 days ago I pushed myself to get to 1600 skips (from previous record of 1k) and I'm now in agony! My calves are so stiff it feels like I can not move. Stairs- I can only go up sideways and extremely slowly :sad:.
So I've learnt a lesson not to push so hard and to be a bit more sensible. No regrets, sometimes it's fun to be a child again. Just need a few days to recover.5 -
@Pearl4686 I have jumped rope in a long time but 1600 sounds like a lot, and surely when your previous record was 1000... I can see why you're sore. I get the competition thing too, happens to the best of us
Last call for steps for Nov 7-13 to make it on this week's report!

I didn't know it was a thing honestly. I kind of landed in Safety by accident and I've spent the last few years just doing my best to pick it up as I go. My education and work experience are more land use research/law based. =P
I honestly should probably look more into it but I'm also not great at walking into rooms full of strangers.0 -

That is Sunday's weight, now that I can finally log in! I used to weigh daily but I'm strictly once a week now, since I don't need those regular reminders that I'm backsliding.
There was a party on Saturday that resulted in this gain though. Some snooty thing for the doctors my husband works with that we ended up attending. I was tense as heck and kept nibbling. It was nice to get all prettied up and go out for a change though.5 -
Ahhhhh! I had written a post on my laptop and before I could post, my laptop died. It warned me. I didn’t listen. 😂
Today was not a great day. Haven’t logged, steps are low, and I stress ate 5 chocolate chip cookies throughout the day. Why do I make such good cookies? And I still have difficulty controlling myself.
@ashleycarole86 My granddaughter is doing great. Busy little imagination. Today she played in the leaves. She also took her annual tree shot.

Well today sure flew by! I am glad to feel my energy coming back. I was getting seriously tired of the wet noodle feel
Those of you who have known me for a while know how much I love winter - today that gave me a huge boost. I took my walk later than I had planned, and it had started raining. I threw on a good waterproof coat and went anyhow. As I was just about to start up a section of our trails with 3 pretty steep climbs in a row, the rain turned to snow. I was so happy I about flew up those hills. When I got to the highest point on our land I did quite a happy dance. I was channelling Gurdeep Pandher for sure! (look him up if you don't know him - he'll put a smile on your face)
So good to see you @tasoconnor and @sljjjembeca ! I am hoping that everyone who has been quiet for the past few days will make it back onto the site with all the changes. Let us know how you're doing - although with all those steps and good losses, I'd say it is pretty good
Who's up?

Hello,
Crazy day at work. The internet wouldn't work so I couldn't do any paperwork. The boss was shutting down the classrooms I was in while seeing kids. I finally packed up my laptop and went home to use my own internet to finish my students progress reports. We lost power from the wind storm but I was able to cook what I needed before the outage. Skipped takeout since I left in the middle of the day.
I ate lunch in the car on my drive home and then my brain decided lunch must have never happened and I was hungry all day. Snacked more than I wanted but didn't go over calories.
I'm not sure if we will have school tomorrow but I don't think they will start repairing the power lines until morning. We have our generator going and a nice warm fire.
I have a deck of funny/sarcastic inspirational cards at work. I copy them and leave them on my co workers desks. I will have to post some for you guys soon. They are so funny!6 -
@micki48
Absolutely adorable. Love the picture with the tree! Thanks for sharing. Nothing worse than cranking out a huge post and having it go into the void!!2 -
11/15 exercise:
5647 steps + 30 minutes yoga + 20 minutes Peloton
We had our volunteer commitment tonight so the evening flew by. Rain/snow mix here today so my one walk at lunch was good but this evening I was going to go again but it felt slick (and not in a way that I could feel safe to work around). So, did my yoga instead!
Ok, time to veg.. night all!3 -

@micki48 Love the tree hugger pic!
@ashleycarole86 I'm afraid I'll have to pass on the step team -even though it's only a once a week report, I just haven't been able to make that a habit...why I left the last time too.
@jugar so happy to imagine you dancing up in the snow Please feel free to keep it up there. I have PTSD from winter 2015 with 3 nor'easter weekends in a row - never had to go to that highest roof on our small house before - tied off to the chimney, chipping away at a huge ice dam causing leaks into the house. I head into winter with a bit of dread now.
After a weekend of stress eating (like who needs icecream with chocolate syrup at 10 am a half hour after a sensible breakfast?)...back to Monday and I had a good intake day. All important meeting with mum's oncologist and here we go...into a thicket of tests & doctors. Some relief that it's not immediately the worst stage; it's not good, but it's better. Tuesday here we go!
6 -
Ohh @eggfreak, no fun. glad it's better for your mom, but still not anything anyone wants to go through. I get you on the snow PTSD! last winter was a lot of shoveling, but this winter I bought us a new snowblower, it's blue and I've named it Smurfy, so I can't wait to get out and use it!!
@conleywoods stay safe in that wind! I'll bet there are pine needles flying everywhere. I never realized just how much shedding an "evergreen" tree did until I lived underneath a huge pine tree. you must be surrounded by the stuff in Washington.
Had a good visit with Dad yesterday and brought him some comic book anthologies to read in the mornings before visiting hours when my mom will be able to show up with the tablet to watch his favourite show Dr. Pol on Disney+. It's been determined that he will always be a flight risk and antipsychotic medicines have too many side effects for elderly dementia patients so he won't be coming home again. Now it's just figuring out where can he live as we apply for wait lists all over the city for long term care.
Ohh!! I didn't chicken out and I signed up to play intermediate/advanced hockey with a new group of ladies this coming sunday! I'm scared that they're all going to be in their 20s as that level of intermediate/advanced might be a bit too much for me. But! all I can do is try my best and maybe I will meet my new best hockey friends this weekend. They are playing in Quebec at a rink not far from my house which is the biggest bonus. Driving an hour each way to play at 11pm on a weeknight was getting a bit rough.
Super excited/nervous. It's still so far away though!! lol5 -
@PlaneMonkey that is so good about your daring hockey move! Something close by is a huge advantage, and I'd bet you'll play way better if it isn't at 11 pm I hope it goes great! My son plays in 2 local basketball groups and would probably go nuts without that outlet. He sometimes feels like all the players are better than he is (which I seriously doubt!) but goes and has a blast anyhow. I wish you all the best with finding a good place for your dad. I absolutely love your idea to bring him comics. Now I know what to get my dad for Christmas!
@eggfreak I hear you on the dread when it comes to disastrous winters. I'm lucky that we have not had too many huge problems over the years. We lost power for 8 days over Christmas one time, and the hydro crews finally got to our private road to put our lines back in order at the very end. Luckily we heat with wood, cook with wood and gas, and only had to sort out water. We keep some huge water containers in the basement ever since. Now that I don't have to get out to work, getting closed off is actually kind of a pleasure. We keep well stocked with food, and the outdoors is a great fridge/freezer when needed.
I hope things go smoothly with all your mom's tests - hugs flying your way! Enjoy one when the ice cream craving gets bad...2 -

@micki48 LOVE the tree-hug pic! so sweet.
@PlaneMonkey good for you for signing up for the team! takes guts but sounds like it could be real fun and great exercise.
@conleywoods these cards are great!! "who hired that guy anyway?" made me laugh. And consider telling my inner cynicism to shut it.
Tuesday Weigh-in
CW: 215.0
Ugh. Bleh. feels like I erased the October progress with 2 weekends. But on we go. Planning some new meals and workouts now.4 -
@eggfreak best wishes for your mom.
I can't believe it's only Tuesday. Alarm went off at 5.15am, I 'trained' 6-7 - it was 45 mins sports massage (mostly calf related) then 15 minutes of weight technique using only a broom handle which brings it's own challenges. Back home, showered, drove OH to work then I drove back in the opposite direction to the office. Had a bit of a mad day, we did get a lunchtime walk in at least, then left to pick OH up. Realised I was starving, and we had KFC for tea as our meal plan would've taken 45+ minutes and traffic was rubbish.
I feel quite a lot better today though still run down. It's definitely not covid (or at least if it were, it's on top of being run down!) as I have a mouth ulcer. I've also been rather spotty which is very unusual for me. I have Friday off work though so looking forward to some R&R then. In reality it'll be productive time, but I'll try to do some of the more calming chores, like tending the garden. I have some tulip bulbs to get in the ground, and the temperature drops at the weekend so I shall finally remove the peppers/tomatoes. I can't really relax when there are so many things on the to-do list! At least they're on the list and not in my head; I've been reading Getting Things Done by David Allen, and he says that "your mind is for having ideas, not holding them" which seems reasonable enough.3 -
Holy wind Batman! @conleywoods I think your weather came up to Alberta. We are under a major wind warning and Brad and I just tried to do our normal lunchtime walk but it was extreme. We made it halfway and called it. Luckily I had a short walk before work so I'm about half way to my step goal for the day but I have plans after work so it'll be tough to get there.. I'll do what I can.
@PlaneMonkey Glad you had a nice visit with your dad.. looking forward to hearing about how hockey went.
@eggfreak Not a problem - totally get it, thanks for letting me know Glad you got some news that was better than worst.. good way of looking at it.2 -

Together, the eight of us walked a total of 728,999 steps this week – 345 miles. With this distance we walked from Vancouver, BC down to Portland, Oregon. Keep up the great work team! Lots of great milestones for people this week to be proud of.3 -
@ashleycarole86 @kellie_erin and @Terytha -- I hope you have not blown away! It sounds like a pretty wild day, but at least not as bad as on the other side of the Rockies. Keep safe My daughter had to drive from Edmonton to Wainwright today, and it was a harrowing, long trip - she made it all right, fortunately. I guess that tempers my happy winter dance from yesterday
@conleywoods I absolutely love those cards! I especially like "You don't need to enjoy it, you just need to tackle it." Post one of those cards any time.
So, everyone - I want to hear about how you're tackling it. Go ahead and complain here, throw around some pirate vocabulary as needed, and keep at it! Or tell us how you're doing at throwing the inner critic out the door. Especially when the I.C. tries to convince you that it isn't worth bothering to tackle it.
There are still a couple of weigh-ins due from yesterday:
@bootilicious
@holymanhibbard
And the Wednesday group - are you ready to roll?
@AshenMoon
@KellyBgetsFit
@MoStacy
@PlaneMonkey
Persevere!3 -
@jugar Glad you liked the cards. I have lots of good ones in the deck!
How am I tackling it? Right now I'm working on trusting the process and keeping my inner critic from freaking out. It's a little nerve racking to see the scale go up and down while bumping my calories up for the holidays. I know it is just fluctuations but it can be difficult to not panic. Just last week I had one of those moments and almost reduced my calories. Took a deep breath and in a few days the scale was back down. My plan is to keep my calories where they are and keep up with my workouts and be ready to drop my calories in January.4 -
I can't really relax when there are so many things on the to-do list! At least they're on the list and not in my head; I've been reading Getting Things Done by David Allen, and he says that "your mind is for having ideas, not holding them" which seems reasonable enough.
I love this quote! Lists take so much pressure off.
@conleywoods those cards are great. Seriously, who hired that guy? Why do we let him in? Great perspectives and food for thought. Thanks for sharing!
@jugar I'm going to tackle it by remembering the little details. Portion size for me is key. It matters and if I want progress as much as I say I do, then I have to make the small sacrifices CONSISTANTLY. Like, all the time. No more finishing what's on my plate when Im not hungry anymore just because it's in front of me.2 -
@jugar Brad had to drive up to Edmonton for work today and he was white knuckling it there too... not fun. Glad your daughter had a safe trip but that sure does get the adrenaline going. Speaking of which he won't be back home until Thursday night so his weigh-in will be a day late this week. Apparently he was having trouble getting on to tell you himself.
For me, tackling it is just living in the moment, making the best choice I can in every situation, and shaking it off when it's not "perfect" (because what is that anyway?)
And really just being honest with myself, if I'm not it's only cheating me...
Exercise:
35 minutes Peloton, 6652 steps
See you tomorrow!2 -
Happy Hump Day, Friends!
Well I've been rather depressed for the past couple of days - spontaneously bursting into tears for no good reason whatsoever, just not bothering to do - well anything! Hubby took me out last night to talk about it (he's such a good egg!)
I feel somewhat better now. I have a strategy to get me over the edge of whatever it is (I suspect that I am also desperately missing my son - we have a trip to Virginia planned for next Spring), and trying to get a new work project off the ground.
When we were out last night, I found out about a group of knitters who get together twice a month and decided to join. I love knitting, but seem to have fallen out of the habit lately. This could be just what I need.
@conleywoods I love your cards - I think that I need a set like that!
Enjoy the rest of your day.7 -
Hey everyone. Been busy planning a trip but now have decided to postpone it. We were going to leave for the casino on Friday but after learning that my family will be 15 minutes from the casino on Thanksgiving, we have decided to leave next Wednesday. I am going to show up at my aunts house on Thursday and surprise everyone. I haven't seen my nieces and nephew in 6 years. I am so excited. They are 6-12 years old (3 girls and 1 boy with another girl that will be here in May). My health scare this year made me realize that you have to make time for family. I cannot wait to give them a big hug.
I did go buy some new clothes to wear at the casino. First time I have bought any new stuff since starting my weight loss journey. I was wearing a 36-38 in jeans and bought a size 28 this time. I cried when they fit. It felt so good. Most of my weight is in my belly so I only dropped 2 sizes in shirts but that still felt good. I bought Spanx to help with all the loose skin I have and a push up bra. I felt like a million bucks.
Time to head to the gym. Wouldn't mind losing a few more pounds by next week. Hope everyone has a great day.9 -
Starting to feel better and getting back into the groove ☺️

Got my moderna booster yesterday, feeling tired but it's not as bad as the two other doses so that's a plus!9 -
CW 193.4
It was a pound lower yesterday, and will likely be again tomorrow, but today was just a squeak into the green so I'm going to have to just go with it. Maybe I'll get that whoosh next week. 😉
@AshenMoon good to hear your Moderna booster wasn't as harsh as the first two doses. Our second shot of Moderna kicked our butts so I'm leery of a booster... Ohh well!
@kdblpn have a great visit with family. I'm sure it's going to be a great reconnection.
@YinxFed sending you big hugs. It's tough when your son is so far away. Amazing that Hubby is so intuitive. I too love knitting! It can be so soothing.3 -
Hello all!
Thanks for the Wednesday news - it's good to see how things are going.
@AshenMoon when I went to enter your weight on the spreadsheet, I did not have last week's in view, so I did not know how much you had lost. Then the formula kicked in and you lost 5.9 pounds! You certainly made up for your rough week and are right back on track for sure! Good one. Keep it going this coming week!
@YinxFed - sorry you had a couple of seriously down days - and glad you have a sweet hubby who gets it and helps you feel better. That plus some exercise endorphins and a good knitting group sound like an excellent recipe. Sad days can be OK, but it sure is good to have some support through them.
@kdblpn - that sounds so good to be able to see your nieces and nephew (oh, and their parents and the other grownups too!) - and in some gorgeous new outfits on top of it! You will wow them all, I'm sure.
I got one of those useful reminders we need from time to time. Why is it that we need so much repetition? It is so simple - buy the food that keeps you on your best eating in an enjoyable way. Don't buy the stuff that triggers you to eat too much, lose all sense of portions, and then feel crappy afterwards. I'm going back to better snacks with grapefruit (my favourite work-intensive killer of cravings for sweet stuff - peeled and sectioned), and almond butter to go on sliced apples. All other snackage has been (re)banned. I had made the mistake of making some pumpkin ice cream and it was finished by my dear taller half last night, thank goodness. And there were cookies... they are also now gone. Grocery store discipline has been restored! Again!7 -
